- The biopic 'Back To Black' follows Amy Winehouse's rise to fame, marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil, and struggle with addiction. It's being released in cinemas today, but friends of the late singer have slammed it for being too sympathetic to Blake.
Blake joins GMB to discuss his thoughts on the film and the portrayal of his and Amy's relationship, and reveals that he would love to speak to Amy's father Mitch Winehouse, particularly after watching the new film about Amy's life.

‘I had no one looking out for me either’ a very profound quote that people seem to forget
I dont blame Blake i didnt and i wont he was addicted too!!! And she chooses to take all the d...gs By herself im a sober& clean addict myself
As much as i love her im a BIG fan but she had an addicted personality BOTH
Blake AND Amy!
Correct ❤
I thought so too, shame she just skipped over it.
I actually feel sorry for him, he described it perfectly when he said her death has been his cross to bare, he has suffered with addiction and all the blame can’t be put on him. Amy wouldn’t have wanted him to blamed. Her father is a lot to blame for how Amy suffered but he never seems to take one bit of responsibility 😢

Amy would be proud of this man she shared her journey with...no angel or villian in this story...he presented himself so well in this difficult interview...

So well said. Couldn't agree more. Thanks for articulating this sentiment.
@@Wizzy678 Boy, you have missed her message completely. Come down sometime from your 'god-like' perch - and you'll see the toothpicks you mistook for pillars.
@@Wizzy678OF COURSE society should praise EX "junkies". Keyword "EX".

RIP Amy so missed.
People seem to magically forget that Blake was struggling and ill too… yes he played a role in everything but you have to give credit where credit is due and the fact he’s clean and speaking about his time with Amy is incredible x
I totally agree ❤
you're forgetting that he also asked for half of "his" inheritance upon Amy's death and clearly was only with her for the cash, praying on a fragile woman and bringing her heroine in the hospital upon overdosing
@@Sophee i wonder if you feel the same disgust when divorced ladies or widows of famous men ask for their share of money
@@SopheeHonestly, with the way that marriage law works in the US, he was entitled to money. She brought in millions the two years that they were married, he was the muse behind one of the biggest albums in history, and she committed adultery. In some states, if you commit adultery, you automatically get half of what was earned during the years you were married.
@@mandyjuelzdo they work that way in the UK too? He also did the same things
Amy already had an addictive personality before she met Blake. Blake was one of her addictions, from which stemmed some of the best song writing of all time. I felt it was courageous of him to walk away from the relationship after receiving counseling in prison and realising it was toxic co-dependancy. Just wish Amy lived long enough to find a relationship that could have nurtured her and to realise her dream of having a baby. All so sad. But, I don’t blame Blake.
Completely agree
I agree too
Well put.
Well said.
Some women/men don't want a nurturing relationship. Some people crave the conflict. Amy seems like she was one of those people who was easily bored and looked to "trouble" for stimulation.
I think it's pretty clear that Amy had issues before she met Blake. If people still question her ex-husband why does no one question her parents, particularly her Dad.
RIP Amy
Totally agree. After all, Mitch is the root of all her initial problems!
I agree with you her father played a big role in what happened not only Blake

“When it comes to Blake, I’ve decided never to speak badly about anyone,” said Janis Winehouse, the singer’s mother. “I know it was about love and I don’t think you can judge when it comes to love. Love does the walking and talking. I believe the relationship between Amy and Blake was intimate and genuine.”
The proudness on his face at the end when he admitted he's doing well and moved to a better place in life...warms my heart ❤
Once people understand trauma then they will understand addiction a little more. Amy’s issues were established long before.
Amen!
This!
This!
100% this is what I’ve been saying
@@fxtxhx trauma is the root cause of addiction , mental health and everything in between. Trauma occurring before 7 years old will result in addiction and death. Amy was well established in her addiction when she met this young man. Granted they created a co dependant relationship but that goes with the territory. Very sad actually.
I hope Blake reads these comments here…so much empathy and compassion - it’s like we’ve all grown up and understand better. Hindsight is an amazing thing…just a pity some don’t get the luxury of learning from it.… Blake seems like a genuinely nice guy, he deserves continued peace & happiness.
RIP Amy x
Right on Cldnt agree more 💯💯🙏🙏🙏
💯❤️
Absolutely. I'm glad Blake is in a good place now.
It’s just sad, for the both of them. Because I’m sure ‘clean’ he’s probably a decent guy. And I don’t doubt he loved her. They just weren’t the right people for each other at that time.
They weren't allowed to be right, too much money making involved. And the tills just keep ringing. Kerching
I don't understand how her dad could point a finger, he was there too. "And if my daddy thinks I'm fine", where did those lyrics come from. She wrote and sang from the heart. I pulled a daughter out of the grips of addition, it almost killed me, but she is here. It's a horrible disease, it grips the whole family. It becomes a battle to not let it win the child I gave life too.
Addiction isn't a disease, well done for helping your daughter, but why did your daughter do drugs in the first place?
She would’ve been better off without her father in her life! And she may have still been with us today.
The roots of all are not the drugs. There is some mental health battle behind it as someone said above
Not all drug addictions stem from family trauma, some are just started in fun unfortunately @user-ku3mv8mz2r
This! Her dad is narcissistic for this alone! I will never forget the first time I heard rehab and thought surely this person isn’t really saying their on drugs and their daddy thinks it’s fine? That was my entire thought process I just couldn’t believe it!
Anyone who thinks one person can make another person an addict doesnt understand addiction.
But having an enabler in someone's life, who has addictive tendencies is/was a recipe for disaster!
No you don’t understand addiction
Yes I do. I was an addict and I grew up with addicts. Amy and Blake would have been attracted to each other partly because they would have sensed they were the same (i.e: addicts). He didnt make her an addict. @@user-sr8hs1ix4u
Absolute nonsense. I used to be an addict (I'm not saying to what) and when I met my partner, within a year he was an addict too. Luckily we made it out and haven't touched anything in 10 years!
Thats true but also she chose to be in that relationship and they bith choose to have that unhealthy toxic influence on eachother@@nutcracker2916
I knew Blake after he split with Amy. The only reason I’m commenting is because of some of the horrible comments here, although I’m very glad to read all the nice ones. Blake had a lot of flaws when I knew him, he was arrogant and cocky, but it was so clearly a facade to cover his insecurities. He loved Amy and she loved him, even after their divorce they spoke for hours on the phone and he was so devastated when she died he nearly killed himself in his effort to numb the pain. Yes, he’s done some awful things due to his addiction, but that kind of regret and guilt only makes it so much harder to get clean and he’s managed it in spite of that; now he has to live every day knowing the things he did without anything to numb those feelings of guilt anymore. I didn’t particularly like Blake when I knew him, but I’m thrilled to see him doing well and I wish him all the best.
I don’t know him but I know enough to see a pattern they had a lot of issues and because of that brought out the worst in each other he doesn’t deserve the blame and you can tell he’s crippled from it if it wasn’t Blake it would be someone else and he’s handling it with such grace that a lot of people couldn’t.
Wow.. I feel embarrassed for the guy! The interviewers were very curt, judgmental & kinda rude. BFC on the other hand was well spoken, sensible, introspective and yeah… civil. They were both so young!
Yeah I know he’s choosing to go on these interviews but I cringed at a bbc one I saw where the host said, in such a condescending way, ‘you were a complete mess weren’t you.’ I think they feel they have to sound curt so it doesn’t seem like they’re sympathising with him too much maybe?
Also I do wonder if there’s an unsaid annoyance that he’s still here and clean and she’s not and then somehow that lands on him.
Yes, I agree Adil more than Kate
… and they kept cutting him off and trying to put words in his mind, as if they thought he wasn’t capable of speaking 😡 they’re vile, especially that woman
Agree. He was very gracious in stark contrast to the presenters with their strangely old fashioned and plain nasty agenda. I think he’s a likeable chap who deserves to be treated better in interviews.
Blake was never to blame. And I believe Amy would never want him to feel responsible. She loved him - flaws and all. They were two addictive personalities trying to find escapism from reality. And their individual reasons for doing so are their own.
Best comment so far!
💯💯💯 perfectly said
I knew Blake around 1999/2000 when he was a hairdresser in Kentish Town. He was very well mannered and full of positive boyish and youthful energy, almost naive in a way. Very well spoken. Very interested in others, curious about the world. He never once appeared to be interested in the fame game or being the centre of attention in any way. Camden was party central back in the late 90's early 2000's, and he would have started partying hard at that time. He was very impressionable and didn't seem to have a lot of self confidence.
Sounds like you're excusing his behaviour, awful man, he should have her death on his conscience, but doubt he has.
@@colinpadley1897 to be really honest, I haven't seen him since 1999 and don't know anything about Winehouse's music or antics as it's not my bag. So don't actually know anything, just saying that's my run in with him 25 years ago
@@colinpadley1897oh shut up. You don’t know either of them on a personal level so you can’t comment and push the blame onto him! It’s so unfair
@@colinpadley1897I don't think it's fair to fully blame him because at the end of the day Amy was a grown adult who chose to start doing drugs out of her own will he didn't physically force it on her
So as much as he failed to lead her in a positive direction it's still not like he's fully responsible for her death
@colinpadley1897 Ultimately as adults we have to take responsibility for our actions. Amy wasn’t a child and she made her own destructive choices because she was in pain. As was Blake. A little non judgemental compassion goes a long way
These interviewers are rude. Blake is trying his hardest here.
I agree, Amy chose this man. To basically blame him when he was an addict himself is so low
They were annoying. Cutting across him the whole interview.
I mean, that’s the hand you’re dealt with dealing with morning show hosts. Either fake niceties and platitudes or insane condescension or passive aggression.
They seem the stock that don’t even believe addiction is a complex impulse and mental vulnerability. Latent mental illness or trauma informing the habit or the Epigenetic factor behind it. They see it as a sinister and selfish choice made in a completely lucid state (which obviously is not the case) and you gleefully invite others into the mess with you.
Time to leave this guy alone. Amy died from alcohol, not drugs and he was in jail at the time. Leave him be.
Sometimes it's hard to. He never loved Amy. He made her sing a racist song on camera, swore on her life he wasn't filming it, then the film of it somehow ended up in the hands of the NEWS OF THE WORLD, that's just one Blake thing.
He's definitely trash
He literally introduce Amy to hard drugs & that was her downfall aside her eating disorder, he literally left Amy to go back to his ex Girlfriend & that Devastated Amy thinking she will never see him again, plus Blake Charge Amy 150 pound for a kiss or to even get near her, he was taking advantage of Amy’s money. Was it all worth it? How can anybody forgive him.
I agree ❤❤❤❤❤
Two addicts fell in love. One survived. Everyone has negative opinions of Blake. He simply is a good person now trying his best. He's sorry and no one can blame him for her addiction. I'm an addict. I take full responsibility for what i did to myself.
Blake is the only person that took accountability for his actions and the only person that took multiple bullets and criticism. And I tip my hat to him for that alone because it takes guts to admit your mistakes.
But what people seem to forget is that the were a lot of people around Amy that were enablers in her cycle. So called "friends". No one helped Amy. They were equally benefiting from her addiction but everyone is silent. 🦗 Crickets 🦗
Blaming Blake for everything is ridiculous when she had a whole team around her. Just watching that last Serbia concert is all you need to know about her life, her demons but ultimately the people that let her down.
I have addiction issues and no one makes you become addicted to anything! They might not help matters but it’s on us to take responsibility for our issues and actions.

It's absurd that some people blame this guy for Amy's death. Amy passed away from alcohol intoxication, and when she died, they were no longer together, and she was dating another guy, so how could he cause her death?
He introduced her to the drugs that’s why everyone hates him….watch the documentary movie

@@JoeLisleppl getting mad over drugs, brother she was using gate way drugs before him

She would have gotten them from someone else. When you want something, you get it and do it. I was introduced to it but I didn't want it and didn't do it. Doesn't mean I didn't do other kinds. People do what they want when they want to drown out the noise in their head or the trauma of life. Some come out of it on the other side and some might not.
This poor dude... Amy would be proud of how he moved on and changed his life. Blake does NOT need to shoulder this blame.

Constantly interrupting him too 🤨
Same here, the tone and angle of questions were out of line, it was good that he said "I was young and there was no one to look after me either"
Distasteful? HE was the one that introduced her to hard drugs. He made videos of her when she was wasted and sold them to a newspaper. She was nothing but a cash cow to him. Just so unfair that SHE was the one that died.

He seems like a genuine guy. Someone who made many mistakes in their life like so many of us. It’s never as simple as someone just getting another person into drugs. Especially addicted to drugs.
He was young and he was a hipster who experimented with drugs and got caught up deep, I’m sure he was fighting his own demons as was Amy. Whatever she used, she did so of her own volition. Just because you’re in love with a user doesn’t mean you have to become a user. That said- I am a huge fan of Amy’s and am saddened deeply by her passing… she was incredibly talented
'I had no one looking out for me either' - speaks volumes.
Cringey. How they asked him if he was ok at the end wanting to put a neat little bow on the interview and situation. He is clearly not...also when they tried to open a dialogue between him and Mitch Winehouse...so cheesey and inappropriate. Would be good to hear a longer podcast or something...I nearly died for the guy, the interviewers were as subtle as a bull in a china shop
You're absolutely right. This only shows how nothing had changed about the media how they deal with these subjects. They made everything worse but only he kinda became the scapegoat. And still is. But life is not only black and white.
To be honest everyone knows what drugs does but move on. Amy Winehouse died long time ago. Let him live in peace and rip amy
🎉So true. It's not fair to crucify Blake. I'm sure this man has lived with and through so many strong emotions. It is time to let precious Amy rest. I have to mention her father. He gave his daughter his entire heart. I hope this movie is tasteful so not to upset him. 🎉
Her father was here only to take her money @@wisdomseeker3362
He's come across very well spoken, accepted responsibility for his mistakes and regrets...she was clean from drugs 2 years prior to her death..sadly alcohol amongst other struggles took her life..the pressures of the paparazzi, record company for constantly wanting her to perform - all factors to take into consideration for the escapism that alcohol provides many people.Multiple people/factors played a part in the untimely death of Amy. Nobody is accountable or responsible for this, may she rest and hopefully people can learn from this.
Unfortunately she didn’t have only alcohol in her system but a high dose of metadone. This last one is very dangerous and still proscribed even if it has been proved that first dies not really work with cravings and secondly it is a very dangerous substance especially if mixed with alcohol that gives double of the addiction. Unfortunately we are so dumb to think that because it is legal, it means it is safe. A corrupted system
He composed himself very well. Must have been hard for them both
I do have empathy for him. Being in recovery and trying to navigate the past which he constantly has to relive must be hard. Amy and Blake’s were both addicts and addicted to toxic situations. Sensitive souls bless them. We all have to take responsibility for ourselves. God bless him.
He seems to have grown over the past few years. In more ways than just his age. He came across well.
Leave him alone, I'm sure he's been through enough of his own problems and Amy wasn't an angel, she was human.
If Amy loved him.thats ok with me not ideal situation ,however better to have loved and lost, then never to love ,,its time we celebrate her greatness, and allow him to live on with grace .
He seems so lovely. It’s impossible for one person to turn another into an addict. I hope he has found some peace. ❤
The way media exploits tragedy is disgusting
Say what you like about Blake but he does come across really genuine, respectful and articulate in interviews and doesn’t deflect from any of his past, if only politicians could come across in this way they may get more respect from the general public.
This is vile they're just putting words in the poor guys mouth, just let him speak, such a reductive attitude

I was in a relationship with an addict from 2017-2019. During that time, I spiraled into my own addiction. Addicts aren't able to help themselves out of the abyss, much less anyone else. I completely understand when he explains how he didn't have anyone looking out for him either. I'm glad to see he made it through to the other side and doing okay. Sometimes there is no "bad guy." Agreed 😡 they’re vile
Amy was a woman with mental health issues, but she was successful and an adult who made her own decisions. Neither of them were clearly in the right mind during their relationship, so exasperated each others addictions during that time. Blake needs to be able to move in this. You all know if she continued to live, the newspapers would have been ripping into her probably even now.
Wow he's so humble, way different than he's been portrayed . People always want someone to blame, but addiction is to blame, that's it
Honestly as much as I love Amy, I think she came from a place of hurt and not feeling complete. She was young, naive and found someone that made her feel whole. They both were young and probably had different struggles of their own. We can't blame Blake. As much as we wish Amy was still here, she was already losing a battle she had within herself for a long time. Congrats to Blake for changing his life around, and RIP to Amy. We still miss you and will never forget you 💗
Blake was never to blame. Amy and Blake were probably suffering from BPD and they spurred each other on in good ways and in bad ways.
I believe Amy would have hated the way Blake was portrayed in the film, even though it's sympathetic, because to her he was perfect. That's all that matters.
Anyway, it's great to see him looking well and speaking so eloquently.
I don’t know about bpd? Codependency yes
Bad interviewers, poor bloke being grilled on live TV and they keep interrupting him , let him speak 🙄 they obviously know nothing of addiction either
Falling In love does strange things to folk in the best of circumstances it all unfolding into the grips of addiction is just another level

So softly spoken. I am so glad I saw her live in Oxfordshire.
Good on Blake for coming on this programme. He seems like a likeable chat
I think Blake should start a podcast and tell his journey he deserves so sort of understanding fair enough people are cruel with their words and opinions are self projections of thoughts however it would be a good way to raise awareness the media tried to tarnish them I think the control should be taken back
You’re so right! And the paparazzi terrified, stalked and harassed Amy constantly, which greatly impacted on her mental health. The media constantly made a mockery of her and exploited her, but you don’t see any of them apologising for their hand in her demise. I would love to listen to a podcast by Blake about Amy, and maybe he could even interview other people she worked with or had in her life.
I don’t think he is very comfortable talking about the last…must feel ashamed and painful
Good interview , it’s sad about Amy but also sad what Blake was going through , it takes 2 tango and can’t be solely blamed for what happened
Blake was not only Amys inspiration for many of her

It means a lot to all her fans .❤
“I had nobody looking out for me either” rang home, it’s so easy to judge and blame!
Blake is brave that's all I have to say. Like Kurt and Courtney and Sid and Nancy, Amy and Blake chose each other.
Amy's story should be told as a series not a movie. I can't wait to see the movie. I feel so bad that Blake always takes the fall. I think he's a sweet person.
This guy made some big mistakes in his life but look how well he looks and speaks now.
I understand if mitch couldn’t talk to him but I really hope they do.
Is a sad situation and I think Blake’s took a lot of the flak over this.
I think he’s a decent guy now and hope people lay off him. Wish him nothing but the best and R.I.P Amy. She was so talented and beautiful ❤️
As someone who has been in direct contact with people with drug addiction for many many years, this whole story and especially this interview breaks my heart..it's beautiful to see him on a better path now but the past had got to be so much darker..as he said, addiction is indeed nothing to seperate between black and white..addiction might be the worst thing to happen to someone because it rots not only the drug addict but the whole environment around them and in Amys case it could not have been more heartbreaking knowing what an amazing human and artist she was..Rest easy Amy❤
this is a really good interview.
I always hated him for abandoning Amy when she needed him the most. But quite recently I now understand that he too was also an addict and Amy was already an addict due to other personal things in her own life that was out of Blake's control.
Just listen to Wake Up Alone, Black to Black, see how much sadness he caused her. He's not innocent at either.
He probably wasn't the cause of the addiction, but he definitely contributed to her downfall and enabled her drug addiction and I think he tried to keep her down because he was down. I wished she had the strength to leave and stay gone but its hard when someone keeps you pumped up on drugs, and emotionally oppressed.
Why do these interviewers interrupt just when he's about to say something interesting?
Bless him,Im an addict and addiction doesnt work the way people whom havent experienced it think!
It breaks my heart to see these interviewers to talk to Blake with such distain and judgement. You can clearly see he has worked hard to repent his sins of the past. When the stuff went down with Amy, they were just kids. People make mistakes and you can really hear it in his voice when he describes how much love he had for Amy. Bless him.❤
I loved her music, she was such a talent. If she only knew how much people loved her.
I will never understand how people blame one persons addiction on another!
a lot of us have been in toxic relationships fueled by substance abuse especially when young, where both are as bad as each other and are just naive, he was a young lad, seems like a decent chap.
Sending love to Blake, he gave a great interview. RIP Amy
