I miss that old girl, I used to drive one of those when I was learning and she still didn't give up, near the end of her life she had a lot of problems like cruise control not working and 4 wheel drive not working but she lasted a good 18 years or so before her oil pump failed.
If I ever get the chance I'm going to get another Ford explorer or a crown vic because of how good the engines are and how amazing they are to drive

Just bought my 2003 today for $2,950 and it only has 107,500 miles in perfect shape no rust no body damage runs like new I got Lucky I think I did. Update. I'm not so lucky, the 4 wheel low is always on so I've got to get that fixed and two of the power windows don't work.

@@cdos9186 yeah it drives excellent, but before his mom wrecked it. They put a new transmission in, it has 170 thousand miles on it, with the new transmission & Radiator, and fan. I plan on driving it quite a bit. I just barely got it registered today. I might need to change the brake pads, it was sitting on my buddies driveway for 6 years. I had the time, so we'll check it out

Rebuild the Cooling system. The Intake manifold, the Thermostat housing(2 piece) and Radiator, are all made of plastic. Plastic and twenty years of coolant, constantly changing temperatures, makes them prone to failure. As long as you are pulling the Radiator, and getting a little intense removing the Intake manifold, you might as well remove the old Water Pump Alternator and the Belt & Tensioner assembly. It goes without saying, replace the radiator, and by-pass hoses. The design incorporates a Radiator cap with the sealed expansion tank (after spending at least $500 so far, what's adding anoter $20.00 for a new tank and cap?).
Now let's take a look at those Ball Joints...

Also, it is an over head cam engine, with timing driven by a chain. Although having a chain drive is usually more reliable than a timing belt, in this situation, it isn't. Ford had #1 chain driving the cam on the driver's side head, along the front of the motor, as you would expect. For the Cam on the Passenger side however the cam is driven from the rear of the engine, near the transmission. to do this Ford incorporates a jack shaft driven off chain #2, and #3. on vehicles with 4WD, an additional balance shaft was driven off Chain #4. (also the Jack Shaft drives the oil Pump assembly, deep in the motor).
Remember the note about Timing Chains Being more reliable than Timing Belts? On this motor all of those timing chains are maintained by more plastic parts(Tensioner cassettes) that fail. To Change the Chains, the Cassettes, or to do anything meaningful, requires removing the motor from the vehicle, in order to access the Chain driven passenger head.
Word of the Day, Change Oil Frequently, and if this motor develops a death rattle from a timing chain, RUN!

Extremely clean huh? Hmm. Well. The hitch looks like it could break off and fly halfway across town if someone farted even slightly near it, there is rust on every single panel gap and around the entirety of the body cladding, it’s dirtier than a Bad Grandpa movie and the wheels look like shit covered with some kind of gold colored dust. But other than that, you’re 100% right. It’s a perfect, showroom condition Ford Explorer that I’m sure everyone and their brother, uncle, stepdad, and grandpa wants. Give me a break.

This was the lamest review of a vehicle I have seen yet. No knowledge of what systems it has or how they work. Not interested in friends Chevy truck. This SUV has dynamic self-aware systems and complex integrations. I got nothing out of this video. Leaving this comment left me with feelings of wasting my time as well
