Truer spoken have never been words...
Yep if you haven't figured out the trick already when they say that then you know you are about to be totally duped.
I love how he titles this "the trick that fooled Brian", but every scam school, he says "this fooled me"
Brian Brushwood exposed!
Not EVERY show.........
but EVEN Penn and Teller can get fooled .......so .........
If a trick didn’t fool you why learn it ?
Seeing Shwood short circuit for a second was gold.
Thats a tongue twister 😂
You owe the man a beer for fooling you!
WHAT'S UP BITCHES!!!
Hello there. I'm outing myself as the guy in the video. (Maybe I really am him, maybe I'm not.) You all are so nice: I wanted to reply to some of the comments.
First, a big thank you for all the kind words.
And now some comments/answers.
Something I learned, watching the video, is to also pay attention to where the cameras are. I had all of my angles and timing focused on Brian and mostly forgot about the cameras. That's how you can see the bottom of the box early on as well as the bottom of the deck during the hindu shuffle. Lesson learned: the cameras are also your audience, don't forget about them.
Things I would do differently, having watched this:
(1) I would have waited until the very end of the trick to casually put the hat back on my head. Instead I did it while his focus was on looking through the deck. Not only did that make it a bit jarring when he looked back up, but also it was outside the frame. In my mind, when I was planning the trick, it was going to be something you all saw while he was busy looking at the cards. So, not bad editing at all. Instead just something I didn't think all the way through.
(2) Brian's comment about a little too much noise was solid advice. It would have been just as good without odd lift-split move at the end. The "lift-split" was there because it is a way that could have been used to get the card into the targeted pile (under the double-lift ruse), however I agree with Brian: it is more noise than signal. Variations: do the same fake move without the lift tilt, or just cut into two piles and point at the "wrong" one.
Thanks again for the kind reception. I've enjoyed reading the comments and am grateful to the Scam School crew for being able to perform the trick.
You did a great job nonetheless! That was a great trick, and the many elements you incorporated in it were phenomenal.
The real magic happens at 2:44 when he makes a hat appear.
Taking full advantage of good old human *change blindness* , one of my favorite perceptual phenomena from psychology.
Brian didn't seem to notice it at all, and I bet the vast majority of viewers at home missed it, or at least would've missed it also if it weren't for the video's thumbnail priming us to look for the hat move since the thumbnail shows us that the hat is this effect's "reveal" moment. Change blindness is shockingly reliable and works a staggering amount of the time. All sorts of brilliant videos demonstrating this exist across RUclips including people failing to realize that they're actually talking (face-to-face) to a completely different person from just a second or two prior to the change.
Or a traditional magical misdirection. He put it on when both Brian and the camera focused on checking the cards...
I like how jason Murphy is in the back acting like he is talking and having a conversation
The whole meta thing, letting the observer think they know, is ideal. It works great with non-magicians too. A lot of people don't care for tricks because they know it's just tricks. Then ask them if they know really how thw trick is done. They say no, so then you show them one technique that works for the effect. Then you have them watch while you do the same effect with a different technique. Include someway to have the observer verify the revealed method was not used, and they are utterly confused. It works extremely well to kindle up someone's lost interest in magic, making them feel as unknowing as a child again.
Brian, you're easily my favorite person on RUclips. Your tricks have made it easy for me to socialize in public places which put me in the career that I'm in now. Oddly enough I'm a car salesman (lol). I still use a lot of your tricks to entertain customers and it makes closing deals easy too. Thanks for everything, man! I look forward to seeing more of your videos in the future!
The greatest scam of all time: Brian reveals there is a C is Schwood.
Wouldn't it be cool if there was a series of aspiring magicians inspired by Brian going back to him to showcase their own original tricks?
fool us, you should check it out
Haha we all know that show.
I meant specifically on Scam School where they teach us the trick too.
Sylas Grayson that would be cool! I want to go to Austin to meet him!
After getting out of bed at 5:45am after 0 hours of sleep, because i need to work in 45 minutes. Watching scam school with a nice big cup of coffee is very nice...
Just Some Random Person im in the exact same situation as you are. I mean literally. I woke up 5.45 after 0 sleep and start work in 45 minutes from now. Must be magic.
BonoVox it probably is, lol... i have 14 minutes left now too... what are the odds?
Hope you both had a great shift! :D
Dont you love 59 minutes of sleep?
Last time I was this early I ended up becoming my own grandpa.
Shut up fry
Amazing to see original tricks and reveals!! Well don keep it up :D BIG KUDOS
Brian ive been following Scam School for a long time and I'm so happy to see you this successful. CHEERS!
This is a great video. I find myself leaving most card trick videos because I've learned so much already. So I'll see them do a double lift or false shuffle and already know what's going on. We need more tricks that make us experienced card magicians THINK we know what's going on and then we get fooled
That was an awesome trick. it was also sooo good to see something so different. BTW he was stressed showing this trick. His hands were shaking and this made it much more powerful.
Indeed they were! Brian actually had a good piece of advice around that as well. In short: you know those self-working tricks where the spectator does all the work? Well, if you are working a gig (or even just at a party) and start to get shaky hands, fall back on the self-working tricks and let your nerves settle a bit.
It scared me because I thought he messed up in front of Brian and emberessed himself.
Hector Garcia Same! I was rooting for him to fool Brian. Glad he did so with flying colors.
I just want to say that was awesome. Also, I love how Brian rolls with "you might've noticed that jerk"
love all your videos and even subscribed to your other channel modern rogue. thanks for great content
Seeing Shwood confused, even for a minute, is priceless. Great trick, and it doesn't really require any special skills, but the reveal is pretty cool. The performance itself could use some polish, but the trick is solid. Well done.
Loved this video
Probably one of the best vids. Student becomes a master.
This is cool. I could watch more of these beginner-creates-original-routine type videos. :-)
"Wait... what did you do?' I love confused Brian! That's the best!!!
That was amazing.
Nice trick by the gentleman in the video, gotta give him some props for coming up for a neat trick.
This was cool. I'd love to see more of this thing. :D
Pen and Teller this shit! Fool Brian!
Brian, all truth. You should totally make a "fool us" type show. :)
I love that this is a trick that is a decent trick for schmucks, but it's also a trick that another magician could love lol
I noticed he had the hat on suddenly and my thoughts were "poor editing. They edited 2 different shots together." then saw the reveal. Definitely liked the move.
this is really a great effect for a magician
I love the fact that this has meta misdirection, for the sole purpose of misdirecting a magician. Bravo good sir, bravo!
Not Bad, I thought I cought all The moves he made but he mimiced all those! Well played! :)
So awesome
Harder to pick up on video... but I still caught enough to know how its done.
But well done truthfully!!
I just loved how frustrated Brian seemed, or rather curious.
OMG I LOVE THIS ❤️
oh my god!!!! Someone actually fooled Brian Brushwood!!!!!
I qbsolutly love this box idea
I love these sorts of "tricks for magicians"
Some very nice well thought out subterfuges there, well done that man ;^>
pretty clever reveal. I may have to steal that one :)
Clever idea.
AWESOME!!! :D Bryan has to get him a beer ;P
Wow that was really well thought out with all of his sneakiness
You're so friendly Brian
This is so simple and so great that I hate myself for not comming up with it XD
Cool. Kind of reminds me of Jay Sankeys Fool Us episode, where he through in a bunch of red herrings
Fantastic routine tho :D GJ!
I liked this guy!
He needs a youtube channel! NOW! Does he already have one? :O This was superb!
I don't, but thanks!
i smell a new scam school segment
The amount of fake moves in this routine fooled me. Just like how Jay Sankey secretly fooled Penn and Teller.
CreanJinSung yeah except jay sankey is lying about everything
CreanJinSung Jay Sankey didn't fool them, in order to know if Penn and Teller were really fooled, Jay had to tell one of the producers his tricks, and then the producer listens in on Penn and Teller discussing. If Penn and Teller are fooled, the host of the show is told through his earpiece that they were fooled, and he makes sure that the person preforming states that Penn and Teller were fooled. Jay knew he would be caught if he tried to lie on TV, so he instead lied in the video. He also deletes all negative comments on his video so that he isn't caught.
All the replies here are right and Jay Sankey is one of the most egotistic magicians you will ever meet, I used to like him but goddamn that ego.
Hi Brian. Real good videos. I see that you do a lot of self working card tricks and other types of Semi automatic tricks. What do you think of the work by Nick Trost, Steve Beam, Harry Lorayne. I have several but none of Lorayne. He has a book coming out called Jaw Droppers Two. Looking for self working and semi automatic card tricks.
I'd figured he'd put the 10 in his lap the moment he had so much difficulty with the box, since one wouldn't usually want to keep a card directly below the box in case somebody caught onto it. I knew for sure that the card had to remain outside the box when he was putting the cards inside the box, and the easiest place for the card to go where it wouldn't be caught was below the table.
im mind blown
That was great
HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA, SUWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEG! AWESOME WHEN THE MOMENT THE MAGICIAN SAYS NOW LETS BEGIN YOU KNOW YOURE` FVKD UP
"I think you... a it no you, wait you did, wait no.. WHAT DID YOU DO???????"
I like it.
Bold move there Brian, using your 'O'-face for the thumbnail.
This guys got some real skill... I'd love to see more scam fans do their stuff for you rather than send it in.
this trick is like one of jay sankys
Exactly what it reminded me too... The best way to fool someone who knows all the basics is to pretend you are a clumsy performer, whereas you're giving false clues.
Raymond Fales but here the misdirection and fake stuff actually did something. they hid what he really was doing and brian didnt know where the card went. sankey just did other methods of tricks but didnt take it anywhere. he says he fooled penn and teller but how would penn and teller even know to think of a different solution when they already know how to acchieve the exact same effect.
its like if i have a big screen that covers the whole stage from the floor upwards 1 meter. then i take a ball and "magically make it go from one end of the stage to the other. penn and teller say i obviously just rolled the ball and i admit they figured it out. then i go home and make a video about how it was actually a small air plane that took the ball across the stage. did i really fool them if their method is equally valid? if i wanna fool them i then end the trick by removing the screen revealing a half meter high wall in the middle that would have made the rolling impossible. sankey didnt do this
i thought the exact same thing... what sankey did is like controling a card with the classic pass and at the end of the trick you say: "haha i fooled you, i used a herrmann pass."
i like jay sankey, but the video he made is in my opinion one of the most stupid things a magician has ever made, because he actually knows that he didn´t really fool them. Otherwise he would have claimed that on the show.
Raymond Fales Jay Sankey: " I CREATED THIS 5 BILLION YEARS AGO, SUCH A COOL PRINCIPLE, BY THE WAY, BUY MY NEW DVD SET!"
and by the way, check out my page and pay 20 bucks per month to learn insane sleight of hand...
its so easy to see he splits the top card off when he puts them back in the deck he makes him shuffle to distract him
cooooooool
"The One and Only Trick Ever in The History of The Universe Ever to Fool Brian Brushwood Ever"
Hah.. yeah right. Apply this title to every video :P
he is shaking lol
I UNDERSTOOD! I AM SCAM SCHOOL MASTER> I WAS ABLE TO FOLLOW EVERY MOVE!
wow he looked so nervous... or just not enough beer ^^
he is the new Penn and Teller
bravo
more accurately "One of the Countless Tricks That Have Fooled Brian Brushwood!" :P
What's the name of the song when you review the trick?
2:39 No hat
2:44 HAT! I smell a hiding spot!
I guess I figured it out bc of the camera angle. Also I love these videos so I've seen those misdirection moves a lot. How did Brian miss it?
i like the idea of a cut deeper to eliminate cards.
Neat vid
the magical hat
The thing that has amazed me is how does Brian not have liver damage after drinking in every episode.
Nice! Way to encourage a new magician and admit your own missed observations.
sloppy is a great way to hide the move..... nice...... mind blown
Do you still respond to comments?
7:08 spelling error. just in case you have the power to fix it. you have ouside instead of outside.
but fantastic episode I also have recently started using my decks to force the printed card on the box!
That guy has a level 99 beard equipped.
So how many beers did you buy him?
Bicycle cards still have a 10 of hearts on them
where can i submit a trick?
I like how he gets his hands stuck at the opening.
i caught all the "novice" mistakes he made, but that is also what fooled me too.. could not figure out where he went with that ten... it was just so simple, that i overlooked it!
4:34 is that Jason Murphy in the back there?
nice
He looks like a really nice guy
I seen how it was done in the first 2 minutes, when he put that small amount of cards into the box he dropped the 10 of hearts into the hat in his lap, When he split them apart and said "Check em out" he put that hat on hiding the 10 of hearts. But he did a good job concealing the bottom of the box, So that part surprised me.
Wow
Brian has a pebble :O
R.i.p The Pebble Company T_T
YEAHHHHH AWESOMEEEEE
...why doesn't this have an HD option? Just me? k...
How did he manage to get the ten of hearts into the hat and place the hat on his head?
The biggest magic trick was the hat coming out of no where
I watch your adds because I want you guys to earn money
