    I tried this trick on my wife. It failed. I restacked the cards and let her shuffle the cards again and cut the cards again.

    For those still watching this, the hidden beauty of this video is the technique he uses for a new deck to Stacked was perfected by Darwin Ortiz called the SI Stebbins Secret that he published in 1988. Once it’s practiced, it can be done really well just like it’s shown in the video. It’s great if you open a fresh deck of USPCC NDO cards and want to go straight into a Chased routine or two! There was a mention when you put the rest of the cards away and the top and the bottom cards are different, chances are then 50/50. In this case, take both cards in the second deck, move one on the top of the second deck and place the other card next to the card on the table. That way even if it is the wrong card, you can save it by asking someone else to check the top card on the second deck. Or palm the card when you take the other one from the second deck and produce it from somewhere.

      Until you learn just go total beginner route and do a series of false shuffles (which may be too advanced) or at least a bunch of real cuts that make it look like a shuffle and you'll still be in new deck stack, a stack's a stack. And as long as there isn't a lot of scrutiny (the audience noticing it's still in new deck order) you can do the trick. If the top card is 8d and bottom is 10d then your card is 9d. Super-beginner approach but isn't that what Scam School is about?

      I'd ask if you can do a perfect faro, apparently that's required. If not then one would most likely need to start with their card artifice first to acquire the skill. However, I think Patrick Redford has this shuffle in 'Temporarily Out of Order'. I've got the book but it's quite too advanced for me but I think it's in there. I'm sure he'd take your $75 and he's one of my favorite card magicians so I'll advertise for him, but it will take some serious work. I'll look into it tonight to see if it's there, but stacking a deck from new deck order using shuffles is advanced card work and certainly nothing I'd expect Brian to be teaching on this channel.

    • @jamesfleming1155

      Actually it was super easy to figure out. He had a deck in NDO and started doing faro shuffles. Doesn’t take a genius to figure out he’s arranging the deck into a stack, most likely SS. To get the deck from NDO to SS you need what’s called the “SS secret” which is in a book I don’t remember atm. Not hating on the trick, it’s great. But certainly easy to figure out on the first watch if you are familiar with stack deck effects and faro shuffling

    I love magic that fools magicians by tricking them into eliminating the method they already knew.
    Years ago, I learned about stacks from Juan Tamariz's excellent book, Mnemonica. By far, the best effect in that book is Mnemonicosis. It's an incredibly strong divination effect where the spectator names a card and the magician gives them some simple directions to locate the card in a deck laying on the table, typically by a cut or count.
    That description sounds super dry and obvious to anybody who's ever handled a memorized deck but, in practice, it consistently slays people *if* you know how to sell it. Nobody ever suspects a stack because the magician doesn't touch the cards. They try to reconstruct the trick from the improvised directions you give them and they're forced to conclude that it's impossible.

    I like to carry a deck of cards with me wherever I go. If someone walks into the room, I'll say, "Quick! Name any card in the deck!" They'll name a random card like the Queen of Diamonds. I'll cut to the middle of the deck and say, "BAM!" while I hold up the card that I cut to. 99.99% of the time, it's the wrong card. If that's the case, I'll say, "Dang! One day it will work and it will blow everyone's mind!" The first time it did work, I acted like I knew exactly what I was doing. The person in my group thought I was a wizard.
    A few months ago, I was meeting up with a group of about 10 people for lunch. The 4 that I was with knew the "trick" and would play along if I got it right. The next guy to show up to our table arrived and I told him to name any card. I cut to that card and he almost fell to the floor! He asked me to do it again and I did because I think explaining the gag is more funny than the actual trick. He named a different card and, "BAM!" I actually cut to it! The other guys at the table were freaking out. I played it cool. A few minutes later, another person showed up and the amazed guy was like, "Show him the trick!!!" So I told the new guy to name a card.... "BAM!" I go it right again! I kid you not! 3 times in a row! I decided not to press my luck anymore and refused to do that trick again.

      That's funny, your story sounds eerily similar to mine. A while back I was at a lunch meeting with a group of people and there was one really annoying guy there who kept doing this lame gag where he would randomly go up and shove a deck of cards in your face, tell you to pick one and then proceed to yell BAM very loudly and guess the wrong card. For some reason he thought this was funny, but pretty much everyone there thought it was stupid. Anyways, two friends and I at the meeting that day pretended to act like he had actually gotten it right. The poor guy actually thought he was performing miracles.

    If you spot the top and bottom cards and you've 'hit a break', you can pull out both options, get them to show their card and then do an equivoce to get the right one of the two. Just an idea guys.

    @SMBrwnie 6 лет назад +11

    10:46 When he says 4, 7, and J, that doesn't follow Si Stebbins order. But I guess that's the risk this trick takes!

    • @BryceCastillo
      @BryceCastillo 6 лет назад +1

      SMBrwnie They has been fiddling with the deck at that point, so it got out of order! You can see them lose cards a few times, but the principle works!

    • @SMBrwnie
      @SMBrwnie 6 лет назад +1

      I don't doubt the principle works! And I did see some of the cards spilling. But sloppy shuffling is also a risk when you hand the deck over to someone. I was just pointing out that the trick, is in fact, a risk!

      He knows what two cards it could possibly be, and would presumably cut one out when rattling off cards to gauge a reaction and determine which of the two it is.

    • @TheBalisticGinger
      @TheBalisticGinger 5 лет назад

      I think that's Because as Brian is psuedo replicating and explaining the "easiest" way to do it he hits the ace of clubs; as it's the gap in the sequence when Michael shows the camera the double peek. The ace of clubs and 4 of hearts were also used when Michael performed the trick. The overlap trips him up so he says the two cards he sees along with one of the peaked cards from his own performance & loses the 50/50 coming up with the 7 of spades instead of the ace of clubs. Or they lost the ace off the top and covered the 7 on the bottom same mental mistake. I could be wrong; it is 5 am and I should be asleep instead of watching RUclips videos on my phone.

    a ton of people have been wondering what the quick method for is stebbins is.
    sry Brian.
    if you faro a deck 8 times, perfectly, while having the last card on the right on the outside, you will put it back in perfect order. I always start with the six of clubs, but you can use whatever. Take your starting clubs card and get every other clubs depending down and restarting the cycle. so 6 5 4 3 2 A K Q J 10 9 8 7. all clubs. then take hearts, start three up, so in this case 9, and do it again. 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 A K Q J 10. do the same with spades starting at Q, and then diamonds starting at two. Put the four packets ordering clubs hearts spades diamonds, so that the 3 of diamonds is at the bottom. faro twice, with the right end on the outside. this will make is stebbins. with a new deck, simply reverse the order and two of the suits, and then cut and complete on all four to get into the four packets from earlier.

      Well that’s cuz you gotta inception their asses into following your rules so they think it’s their idea. Just act real casual when you’re giving them specific instructions. For example, if you tell them they can cut as many times as they want it lets them think they’re in control when in realIty it doesn’t screw up the trick in the slightest.

At this point he had a card in his mind then had him say stop whenever as I riffled down the deck and i stopped on his card

    I didn't get to the spoiler just yet, and this is only for my own satisfaction, but it seems like he was waiting to gauge a reaction when he was numbering cards, he asked what the color is and confirmed it was red, so he can just go through the cards afterwards see if there is a 4 of diamonds and from there know what the card was
