I love all of your work complicated or not. Been a fan from episode one. My favorite trick is the simplest, the static straw spin. I was in a McD's with my nieces and randomly said "Want to learn a magic trick?" I apparently said it loud enough for most of the people to hear. All of a sudden I had the whole restraint watching the kiddos moving a straw with there minds. Damn good crowd pleaser.
I picked the king of hearts but only after switching from the 4 of hearts because I felt like it was going to be a force. I've actually never seen this trick before. Really neat how most people are drawn to the 4.
The small card trick is genuinely one of my favourite tricks of all time. It always get a good laugh and does genuinely confuse people. It's my most requested trick to preform
You say "3 years," but I remember getting into the back catalogue of Scam School on Revision 3 like 11 years ago, and even that was a few years after the first Scam School episode aired. In just a few days (on April 6th) it'll be the 13-YEAR anniversary of the first episode of Scam School airing on Rev3. That's CRAZY, man. Damn, time flies. Congrats on everything, and I can't thank you enough for singlehandedly reviving my childhood love of slight of hand. I've learned so many awesome things from your videos over the years from the magic and bar scams everyone expects to learn, to wild psychology and social engineering hacks, and even got some of my all-time favorite book suggestions from your show. I still maintain that we need a Modern Rogue Book Club, or a Scam Nation Book Club. _How to Win Friends and Influence People; Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion; The CIA Manual of Trickery and Deception_ ; there are so many incredible books I learned about from you, or because of your show in one way or another.
Diamond Jim is just so laid back when he's performing. I feel that even if I was there watching him, I'd still miss his sleight of hand or misdirection because it just feels so natural.
I’ve been doing the controlled coin flip exactly as described since I created it in 1981. Sad to see it exposed on RUclips but I probably wasn’t the first to discover it either.
The reason that the trick at 18:22 works is because we use a Base-10 counting system. (We use digits 0-9 and then you move over a column.) Do the same trick with any other base counting system (We will call it Base-x) and the result will always be x - 1.
@@gordonastley in simple words, all you need to know is if a number is divisible by 9, then the sum of it's digits will be divisible by 9. And the new number made by the sum of the digits of the previous, since that is divisible by 9, then the sum of IT'S digits will also be divisible by 9. So as long as the original number is divisible by 9, then you can keep reducing the number in this way until you get to 9. And anything that involves 3 * 3 at some point (or any multiples of 3) will be divisible by 9, so you make someone multiply enough numbers together at the start and it's practically guaranteed.
I love Vernon's 5 card mental force. I've long been amazed by it. I learned it from a magi in Pgh back in 1997 and I didn't believe him, but surely...your presentation is even better B. I like the very non chalant way you mention only the two and then roll into it. I haven't seen it done by anyone else in years...thx.

I changed my mind at the last second to the 4 of hearts too! And even before that, I wasn't even thinking about picking one of the first 3 cards...it was always between the 4 and the 9!!! This is sorcery!!!!
That's funny because I had the same experience but the other way round! Still crazy that my gut was to go for the 4 but then some reverse psychology or something to switch to the ace
its less about being simple minded than it is about over thinking it, my instant reaction was the king, but i thought about it and it felt obvious so quickly reasoned that 4 looks innocuous, sort of the underdog there and switched to that. theres a small window of time the trickster has to allow you just enough time to second guess yourself before forcing the next part. simple tricks like these go pretty deep into how our minds work lol
Well, in trick 2 I picked the 9 of diamonds. In my "too obvious" deduction I avoided the face card, ace, and black card just as mentioned, but went for the edge card cause it seemed least likely to be picked. Sort how everyone picks C in a multiple choice guess.
Funny to hear that people don't like the Nine of Diamonds. That's been my favorite card since I bought a Svengali deck as a kid; it had the 9D as the force card.
All I can say is my mind went through every single piece of that five card trick and I wound up Choosing the 4 Of heart and wish I could replicate the feeling I had inside of child bewilderment when you explained the trick and had shown the card I had chose. Lol thankYou.
@@harmonslytherin no kidding, its easier to grind down half of it on a belt, just make sure u mask up first. Also i think english pennies are heavier so the blowing it into a glass trick really takes some doing.
3:30 I, too, picked the four of hearts because it was the only suit that had two cards so it seemed like a "harder" to guess perfectly. I failed to consider the fact that *all* the other cards were outliers.
The card spinning move they did at 23:44, I never knew this was a trick. I do this a lot at work when bored just because I wanted to do something with my hand.
Exactly. The four of hearts is 1) the only even card, but it's 2) NOT the center-of-the-spread Ace [which seems too obvious a choice], 3) NOT the only black card [and too obvious], 4) NOT the only face card [and too obvious], and 5) NOT an end card [and too obvious]. My experience with similar tricks tells me that the four should be chosen by more than 80% of the people asked.
I picked the 9 of diamonds. I did eliminate the Ace and King immediately due to their popularity, but I was deciding between the 7 of clubs and the 9. In this case, I would've "won". So is there a way around this or do you just go with the odds and hope it works? And, I assume, you can only play the odds, but how do you play it off if they don't pick the correct card?
My ALL TIME favorite tricks that I learned and consistently perform are the one where you slap the cards out of their hands at the end and the 3 coin trick. The latter isn't on RUclips because you have to pay for it but it is strong and simple
I picked the king of hearts. In my head I knew I was being primed to pick something less obvious, so I intentionally picked the most obvious one. This was all subconscious of course, but I found it interesting.
4:04 by everything apart from the 4 of hearts being an outlier, this makes the 4 of hearts itself become an outlier as it is the only one that is not one. Thus they are all outliers.
WHILE being actually true by definition the PERSON is not specifically told that. Choose one......Psychologically I want to choose the LEAST obvious choice........via 4H
27:45 This is a good trick to do after vodka shot if you have a napkin because you can use some of the vodka to sterilize the edge of the desk. That said, there's still some risk because even vodka has typically about 40% alcohol and proper sterilization requires 70+.
I like that card trick, it's clever psychology, the center calls your attention already and it's an ace so you think obviously that's the one so you're changing your mind. The black 7 is the odd one out so it's the obvious next choice to skip. 4 is the next closest option and it's out. King would be an obvious one to avoid as it's the very first. I went with the 9 based off all that ^
The number nine trick works because as soon as you add the sum of any number above nine then subtract it from the original number that number will become divisible by 9 . Any number that the sum of the numbers equal nine , will be divisible by nine - examples 18 27 36 45 54 or the sum will be equivalent to a multiple of 9 .
Did the 4 of Hearts trick for my wife and that's the card she picked. Funny thing was, when I grabbed a deck to search for the 5 required cards, the very first card I saw, as I turned the deck over, was the 4 of Hearts at the bottom of the deck. So good trick, but how'd the hell did you manage that, lol.
That card one was weird, my mind was just like “well obviously the ace is the most obvious pick but they’d expect that and I don’t want to be on the edge cause I like the center and I don’t want to be near either of the face cards so I’ll pick the 4 of hearts” that’s crazy
Tip for the heads and tails one. Always make sure you end with the coin on the back of your hand at the reveal. Just flip the coin in your hand during the reveal.
the 4.5 trick is good...I know another 9's trick thats cool too. But on this one, if Im at a bar, I say - "look I got change in both my pockets (tap tap) - chose a pocket (each has 4.5 cents and other stuff that I keep segregated....) I pull them out - jingle in my hand - and put them into a napkin. Then progress from there - adds a wee bit of more mystery......I thought jeez if Im cutting a penny in half then I might as well us both....adds another layer of randomness to the mark. Works every time....just only do it once though as per usual.
4:30 I have been the victim of this trick and done it twice to people twice, a loooong time ago. I solved it with some nimble fingers, victim 1 solved it by grabbing the glass with the mouth. Victim 2 just dumped it on the floor "your trick, your floor". Ohh, love Libertarian Andy.
Not gonna lie, in the second trick, after you talked about the ace in the middle and to choose a card I knew it was some type of force, and it made me look at the 4 and I was about to choose it but I chose the 9 because I thought that somehow it would be the 4 and that’s exactly what you would want. Not to be “oh I outsmarted it!” It’s more like I had naturally wanted to choose the 4, and in doing so I chose against my natural choice because I thought it might be the one he chose?? If that makes sense! Cool trick though!! That’s cool how that exact set up makes you naturally want to choose the 4
I don't know how I did that, but my first reaction was the 4 of hearts for all the reasons you mentioned, but somehow my brain knew that was too inconspicuous and then went with the 9 of diamonds.
Jesus, I picked the 4 of hearts thinking I outsmarted the thought process. In my brain, I was thinking, “Ok, so he’s already mentioned the Ace and 7 of clubs, so the trick here is that he’s going to try to make me think those are obvious picks making me go for a less obvious pick. Making the 4 or 9 the most obvious pick. But the whole idea is to mind game me, so he’s going to pick one of the originally OBVIOUS picks because I wouldn’t expect him to pick those.” So I chose the 4 of hearts and I regretted it.
I picked the 9 of diamonds and here was my reasoning: Can't pick the middle because its too obvious, but knowing that he'll think I'll choose the one to the side of it, so I will choose the card two places over instead. I didn't even register the two left cards as an option and maybe that's because my right hand is my dominant one?
it only works on large groups of people really you can see this in the comments, some over think it and end up choosing the 4 of hearts others prefer kings or Aces so will pick them regardless, one on one youll run into to many people who will pick an Ace or King because in card games they have the worth or they call the double bluff of wanting to switch but going with their gut reaction instead.
Part of me says the kiss the bar to blow the penny trick can be done by creating the seal against your hand and just placing your hand against the bar instead though I haven't tried either method.
I picked the 7 of clubs BECAUSE it was obvious, because I knew that you'd know that I won't pick the obvious choice. Which means that the obvious choice is the cards who are not obvious which makes the 7 of clubs not obvious.
Yep, I picked the K. Never even considered the 4 of Hearts. The mentalists all hate me. I don't think about everything you were talking about but just naturally go to things most people don't think of.

11:27 - who ever tosses a coin like this? It's usually launched from the nail thumb.
I picked the four. Blew my mind when you picked it.
Funny, I thought "well, I'm drawn to the 4 of hearts, so that probably what I'm supposed to pick, so I pick the king".
My thoughts exactly, but then I said: "Ah, to hell with it, 4 of hearts it is".
OMG.....I switched 3 times before you asked for comfirmation about the pick........I need to learn the mind reading card trick !!!!!!
it only works on large groups of people really you can see this in the comments, some over think it and end up choosing the 4 of hearts others prefer kings or Aces so will pick them regardless, one on one youll run into to many people who will pick an Ace or King because in card games they have the worth or they call the double bluff of wanting to switch but going with their gut reaction instead.
I love the 9 of diamonds!
Part of me says the kiss the bar to blow the penny trick can be done by creating the seal against your hand and just placing your hand against the bar instead though I haven't tried either method.
I did pick the 4 of
I picked the 7 of clubs BECAUSE it was obvious, because I knew that you'd know that I won't pick the obvious choice.
Which means that the obvious choice is the cards who are not obvious which makes the 7 of clubs not obvious.
Yep, I picked the K. Never even considered the 4 of Hearts. The mentalists all hate me. I don't think about everything you were talking about but just naturally go to things most people don't think of.
My spontanious thought was the 4H but i quickly switched to 9D. :P
I picked the nine, why because I went with the gut instinct (the 4) and shifted it one down.
The variation on the Hindu force is nice.
Damn you, Brushwood. I picked the 4 of hearts.
Witchcraft!
I hate you Brian!! With that second trick I definitely did pick the 4 of Hearts lol
Gotta love Austin, Texas
