    Wrench, thank you very much for taking the time to make and post this video. Been wanting to replace a Fog Light on my Daughters Mazda 6 for about 6 months now. For me it was easier to just pull the Bumper like in your video. I had complete access in 15 minutes as I wanted to time myself. Plus it gives me access to clean up the front end of the car inside and out. Keep up the great work Brother.

    You are a life saver! I watched the bumper video and the headlight removal videos and I couldn't have done it without them. I must say, your video must have been taken not long after you got the video, because half of my bolts were so rusted they either broke or just wouldn't come out. Nevertheless, thanks for posting the videos!

    A few notes for this video:
    1. You DO NOT need to drop the bumper. Most people with normal sized hands should be able to reach the low beam cap and disconnect the bulb.
    2. The bulb for the low beam is an A1 bulb. It should be very common at your local auto store.

    • @WickedSlick
      @WickedSlick Год назад +3

      HAH this is absolutely not true regarding the 2008 with v6 and HID bulb. Its of incredibl,y poor design, but that bumper and headlight housing has to come out

    • @rikanderson5951
      @rikanderson5951 9 месяцев назад

      @Brodensson this video says headlight removal not bulb replacement. Read the description. Also, it very difficult to reach the fog light bulb and turn signal bulb without removing the headlight assembly. As someone who has large hands it is difficult to change bulbs other than the low beam bulb. The bulbs are H1 bulbs not A1.

    • @Brodensson
      @Brodensson 9 месяцев назад

      @@rikanderson5951Yep that is all correct.
      I did the headlight replacement a few years ago successfully. I remember watching a video at the time and getting annoyed that I'd have to drop the whole bumper to get the bulbs out, but I was able to reach in and get them. I'm guessing I commented on the wrong video (and made a typo with A1).

      @@rikanderson5951 99% sure I meant to comment on this video:
      "How to Replace Headlight Bulbs 02-07 Mazda 6" by 1A Auto. I'm guessing that's also why I mixed up the name of A1 and H1 bulbs. I feel I have to apologise to this channel owner!

    Looks like a lot of people don't know what a headlight is because I'm always getting messages telling me that I don't need to take the bumper off to replace them. That is only true if you want to replace the headlight BULBS which is not what this video is about. This video shows you how to remove the headlight. If you don't know the difference between a headlight and a headlight bulb then do a google search for it.

    Thank you for the tutorial. Finally did this yesterday, took me about 2 hours including uninstalling and reinstalling the bumper cover. Was unable to disconnect the headlight wiring harness for some reason so I just swiveled out the headlight far enough to change the HID light bulb - yes, on my 2006 that was what was installed. No clips on those though, just a twist ring so maybe easier.
    Overall thanks to your videos it wasn't difficult, just lots of steps. Be patient and take breaks when you need to and you'll be good.

    happywrenching, 2 questions... First, my low beams seem awful dim on my '05 Mazda 6 Sedan, the headlight lens are actually clear but I'm wanting to brighten my low beams with replacement bulbs, what would you recommend? Secondly, it looks like there are 4 bulb ports in these headlight systems, what is the port between the turn signal and the high beam port used for, are there supposed to be bulbs in there? I don't see that anything comes on in them, high or low. Thanks for all the Mazda videos too.

    • @EricMoxon
      @EricMoxon 8 лет назад

      +txtpqb Might be too late, but the answer to your second question - the port between turn signal and high beam is actually an integrated fog light on models that don't have them down in the standard bumper location :D

    I have a Mazda 6 that I always park outside. Due the the oxidation it has also become foggy. I recommend doing a headlight restoration, which just sands off the oxidation and following up with a headlight sealer. It makes it look like new and it cheaper than replacing the headlight.

    • @danehrman2508
      @danehrman2508 2 года назад

      A good , patient headlight restoration will solve lots of ills. This can take up to 1-1/2 hours per side. A good headlight restoration kit, such as that sold by 3M, will set you back $15 to $20. You will need a small drill. Everything else is included. Be careful to take your time during each step. It’s well worth it and beats the heck out of removing the bumper and headlight assembly. Use a good sealer over the lens once you are done. This prolongs the time between restorations.

    Great Video - but it doesn't address what I was hoping to see which would be the install (or, more accurately, the adjustment of the newly installed headlight). Would you be able to do a video on adjusting the headlight height on a 2014 (or similar setup) Mazda3 (I have the S Touring) - It is more a gear type assembly than the screw adjustment like on older cars. It's really stupid that we have to take the whole front end off of a modern car in order to replace headlamps. I just changed the low beam in my CX-7. It wasn't half as bad as this but what a mess it was compared to changing the sealed beam on my old '69 Pontiac. Whatever happened to cars that made sense? Shame on the myopic designers of these automotive nightmares! Thanks for posting.

      Sport and Grand Touring packages came with headlights and taillights that had black surrounds. Base models had clear surrounds. The car in the video is a 2006 6i w/ the sports package and if you look at the headlight you can see that the inside is tinted black.

  • @njtahoe80
    @njtahoe80 10 лет назад +1

    So there's no other way to replace the headlights besides taking the bumper off? Also I have an 08 Mazda 6i which doesn't have fog lights, but if I take the bumper off can I install the fog lights then also? Love the video btw! I'm a chic who's not super skilled with mechanics but hopefully can pull this off rather than bring to a dealer like my guy wants me to. :)

    • @happywrenching
      @happywrenching  10 лет назад

      That's right, the bumper has to come off to take out the headlights. As for the fog lights, there are several more things you need to make it work such as the correct wiring harness and the switch - not an easy task, mostly because of the harness.

    Does this video apply to the 2007 Mazda 6, as well? Also, how do I replace the plastic cover to the headlights? Mine is faded and dingy. I'd love to replace them as soon as possible. • @happywrenching
      @happywrenching  10 лет назад

      Yes, this video applies to 2002 - 2008 Mazda 6. I'm not really sure what you mean by plastic cover. As far as I know the headlight is one unit - you cannot replace anything on it. Thanks for subscribing :)

    • @lyricman17
      @lyricman17 10 лет назад

      What I meant by "plastic cover" is the clear piece that covers the actual lights, themselves. The outer piece. Mine has yellowed and is quite dingy. I hope I can replace them. However, if I have to actually replace the entire headlight system, I'll just have to live with them being yellowed and dingy, I guess. Thanks again.

    • @happywrenching
      @happywrenching  10 лет назад

      Yeah, unfortunately that piece cannot be replaced - the whole headlamp must be swapped out. I'm in the same boat - even though I've cleaned and buffed them, over time the cover turn yellow again. Mine even fog up on the inside. Don't really want to spend $130 per lamp so I just live with it.

    • @lyricman17
      @lyricman17 10 лет назад

      Okay. That makes sense. Well, I guess I'd better start saving up my money. Since I just purchased the car, and LOVE it!!!!, I don't want to deal with yellowed, dingy headlight covers just yet. :) Thanks for your help.

    • @danehrman2508
      @danehrman2508 2 года назад

      3M makes an excellent headlight restoration kit, available for $15-$20. If you are very patient, taking as much as 1-1/2 hours per side, you can eliminate those dingy, yellow headlights. It’s imperative that you take lots of time for each step. Tool needed: 3/8” electric drill. Also, some paper or microfiber towels.

    • @happywrenching
      @happywrenching  10 лет назад

      Unfortunately i don't have any videos on removing the fenders. However it is not difficult. You have to remove the three bolts on top of the fender. Remove the headlights and bumper and under that you will find one more bolt. There is one bolt under the cowl cover (which you have to remove to get at the bolt). Finally there are two bolts on the bottom of the fender. I may actually do a quick video on this.

    You dont have to remove it all the way, Undo the top 10mm bolts and sides if theyre not already broken, slide the bumper forward and you should have room to work. If youre just replacing low beam bulbs I suggest just undoing the fender-wells and replace bulbs from there.

    Do you know if the 2006 mazda 6 headlight housing fits the 2007 mazda 6?... I am looking to upgrade headlights but I am only seeing from 03-06

      @happywrenching  11 лет назад

      Basically there are two sets of headlights for the first gen Mazda 6 - one set for years 2003 - 2005 and one set for years 2006 - 2008. The wiring is different between the two sets. The upgraded headlights that you are seeing for 03-06 will not work with your 07.

      I swapped a fusion 2.3 engine when I first bought the car. That was at 98,000 miles on the odometer. It now has close to 170,000. Nothing but regular maintenance and the car is still going strong. I love mine as well.

      That is the front bumper bracket - Mazda calls it a slide. Part number for the right side is - GJ6A50E11C and GJ6A50E12C for the left. They sell them on eBay for around 10 bucks. Of course you can also get it at a dealer.

    Two things;
    1) 2013 was 11 years ago... That's crazy!
    2) Dropping the bumper?... Ridiculous! Mazda should be ashamed of themselves.
    I replaced my BMW headlamp buckets last year and all four bolts have specific access. Now I want to do my girlfriend's and it's going to be a bit of a project.
    At least I'll look like a hero. :)

    What the absolute hell? Why do you have to disassemble the whole front end to replace a headlight in these cars? Does no one else think that's just crazy or am I just old?
