Man this guy does minimal talking and gets straight to the point. I’ll be using this video to tune my q50 this weekend. Good job!!
Thank you, Lawrence!
Just to let everyone know, ALLDATA says 14ft lb on the plugs with 0.43 gap and 75 in-lb for the throttle body. If you guys remove the intake manifold 14 ft-lbs. 15-22 might be too much🫡
I always come to the comments as there is at least always 1 guy with actual official data
Thank you so much 🤓
Thx! one revision/note...Factory service manual says 0.043 in, or 1.1mm gap on plugs. Don't use a round gapping tool to expand the gap per Denso. Quote: DO NOT LET THE PLIERS OR GAPPING TOOL TOUCH THE IRIDIUM CENTER ELECTRODE OR PORCELAIN.
Hey bro you are the BEST Q50 video maker i've known, and your ideas on modifying the car inspired me a lot, thanks! Although we have different engines lol
I really appreciate that!! Very grateful to have you following along!
@@SpeedCultureStudios actually im pushing my M274 engine to be more powerful but it was too heavy to be fast like your VQ37 even i've flashed a stage 2 ecu and get 300hp 400N.m.4 cylinders are always 4 cylinders anyway.nice to watch your videos all time!
You have a video for everything. love that. youre the best q50 information platform
Big compliment! Thanks a lot!
Just did my spark plugs a week ago .. I was going crazy looking for a tutorial on your YT hoping you had one but no luck any who very easy job to do .. love the vid 💯👍🏻
Thanks! Sorry I didn’t get it done sooner lol. Not a bad job though!
Do you feel any performance difference after a change?
You’re doing us all a service with your videos.. Sub well earned
I hope so!
Great job! Thank you. Just got two quotes for $560.00 or so JUST to change out plugs on my Q-50- so I am going to give it a go! Thanks again. Bob
Dude I called my local dealership out of curiosity for was quoted $612. Like what lol
Damm wtf !! I got all 6 for 130 and my mechanic changed them for 40 bucks lol
@Jack Russelle Lewis yeah he hooks it up I've known him all my life and he knew my pops too
You do you Boo... Had me Roll-N!!!
Have a cylinder 4 misfire along with random multiple cylinder misfires. Checked and cleaned MAF sensors, found out the MAP sensor is FAKE! Lol! On to the coils, plugs and injectors. Thanks for the vids!!
Every fixed?
Awesome video thanks man
Thanks for watching!
Blessings brother 🫡
good job thanks
What size socket used for spatk plug removal
How would you go about removing the bottom allen bolts on the throttle body? They are stripped and super tight. Im not able to remove them...
I have trouble pulling out the spark plugs out. Hoping it’s only because the engine is slightly warm (not hot). Didn’t want to put too much force unscrewing the plug but how much strength did you need to unthread the spark plugs?
Definitely wait until it’s cool. It could take a bit to break them loose.
Quick question, is there a specific spark plug brand you go too or would recommend? For example oem, Bosch, ngk or even denso? First spark plug change on my 2014 q50s with 130k miles. Any help would be appreciated
For spark plugs on this, I would replace them with OEM. Just don't order them from amazon. Denso amazon plugs are not actually denso, for example.
good video. not a bad time to clean the throttle bodys while youre in there.
Definitely...if they need it. But like I said in the video, they are very sensitive so being careful is important
@@SpeedCultureStudios you can disconnect the battery and just be prepared to do an idle relearn. better than having dirty throttle bodys. agreed on the if they need it though.
@@dfacedxa idle relearn is a hassle and can be touchy for a lot of people. If they aren’t bad, I wouldn’t advise most people to do it, unless you just spray them down with cleaner.
@@SpeedCultureStudiosi still would rather deal with an idle relearn vs dirty throttle bodies. did you have a problem doing an idle relearn before?
@@dfacedxa I agree-if they were real dirty. I have not had trouble-I’ve never had to do it on the Q, but others have struggled with it with several having had to go to the dealer.
Thanks for the great video, do you recommend using after market spark plugs ? If yes what are companys that you recommend ?
Oem plugs only
Hello sir, I watched a lot of your vedio, it's fantastic! Recently I encountered some problem with my Infiniti Q50 3.7. The engine is running smoothly, but it feels less powerful than before. Is this a sign that I should replace the spark plugs? The car now shows a mileage of 53600 miles.
could potentially be spark plugs. It's a cheap and easy start at least. Clean the MAF sensors as well.
Man everything is easier on VQ. The VR30 is such a PITA to do anything on.
Definitely a lot of stuff packed into that engine bay!
I’m at 105,000 I’m about to change mine because my tune is next month so figured be a good idea before a tune
Definitely a good idea
If you google torque and denso FXE24HR11, it says it's 17 Newtom Meters or 12.5 ft/lbs
wait i'm seeing for the VQ37VHR it's 19.6 Nm or 14 ft/lbs
Thanks for this! I'm at 84k on my g37 and wanted to do this and clean my throttle bodies at the same time. Do you by chance know the torque specs for the throttle body?
I do not. I just got them snug. You don't want to tighten them too much because they are cast and can break!
@@SpeedCultureStudios Thanks anyway. Keep up the good VQ videos man! You and @boostinmotion are my go to guys for anything VQ! You guys rock! 👏👍👍
@@lancehelsten7518 Have you found any yet?
@@Awsometiger1011 I still haven't found the time or money to do so... so no lol
Do you have a video of you doing the water pump ... Mines leaking coolant that the dealership said they fixed which of obviously BS with it still leaking
No I do not. Sorry
Had to look away when you were cracking the throttle bolt loose. I knew you were going to crack your fingers against that bar.
Haha I did too. It was one of those things where you just hope it doesn’t hurt too bad lol.
Very interesting and detailed on how to change the spark plugs. And right now, I know how to change the spark plugs on my Q50
Excellent!!
So I just recently bought a 2014 q50 premium. Pretty sure it needs plugs so this next weekend I'm going to change them out myself. I know it probably makes life alot easier but do you have to unbolt the throttle body? Or has anyone done it without unbolting it? "I've had bad experiences removing throttle body's in the past on different cars"?
I don't think you can get a socket in there without removing the TB. It simple enough to do, no reason not to.
When removing the throttle body do you have to change it the same time or any type of reprogramming ? I’m currently going through this on my 3.7
What’s the gap specifications on the spark, plug did it came pre gap or did you have to gap it yourself?
They are pregapped but it’s good to check them. I thought I showed that in the video
Now do you suggest using that spark plug Grease that they give you
That who gives you? But yeah if your preference is to use it, go for it. A little goes a long way on the ceramic portion of the plug.
Do you have any experience/videos for cleaning the throttle body intakes?
I have experience, but I have not done a video cleaning these. They are pretty sensitive so depending on how careful you are, you may need to perform the throttle relearn procedure.
@@SpeedCultureStudios do you know how to do the relearn process?
@@OfficialbrAVERYX search for a video with this title: G37 & 370Z After Throttle Body Cleaning_ Motorvate’s DIY Garage Ep.27
I have a 2014 3.7 premium q50 at 60k miles. Should I change them now or at what mileage should I replace them ?
It’s be a good idea
Can I reuse the same gasket or add a silicon gasket to reinstall the throttlebody
You can reuse the gaskets as long as they don't feel hard or have cracks. I wouldn't use a silicon gasket, just buy the oem one if you really need to replace them.
@@DoomFinger511 i reused the oring added a bit of oil just like in the vid. Did my plugs in the summer time went smooth af
Do you disconnect the battery before disconnecting the coils or that’s not an issue?
I don’t think I did. It’s not a bad idea to disconnect the negative terminal though.
“You need a 10mm socket” *picks up a 14* 😂
Did I? Lol.
at what interval do u recommend changing spark plugs . mine is 2015 3.7L
I changed at 50k-ish. I think that’s reasonable.
@@SpeedCultureStudios Okay my q is at 33k right now and I don't even abuse it so I'm guessing I'm straight for now
@@edgar_leon1790 You're probably fine.
What gauge is that next to the coil back closed toward the front of the car. And why do you have it?
It’s a fuel pressure gauge. Used to monitor fuel pressure. But more important is the block it is mounted to-it is a fuel port which allows you to easily tap into the fuel supply for a nitrous setup 😉
@@SpeedCultureStudios nice I was searching through all your videos to se end you made an install video or something explaining it before I asked the question thanks for getting back to fast. Keep up the great work
What about the hks racing spark plugs, would they make any difference in performance.
No. Nothing noticeable. I actually was going to get them but talking to Z1 they said it’s not even worth the extra
@@SpeedCultureStudios thank u
@@SpeedCultureStudios hey bro, Am interested in weight reduction, do u thing the two rotor is the way too go, but they are pretty expensive tho. would you recommend them for better Acceleration.
@@rihannabackup9546 two piece rotors will help with acceleration. You would save something like 30lbs with them! That’s a lot of unsparing weight and rotational mass you would be eliminating which is good
Is there any performance difference when these are replaced? Now that im at 101k
Old spark plugs can definitely hurt performance.
@@SpeedCultureStudios I was definitely thinking that thank you I appreciate it
Should I go with ngk spark plugs or z1 oem
Oem
What ignition coils would you recommend? Trying to knock two birds with one stone.
I honestly haven't heard much about people upgrading coils yet at this point. I would suggest OEM coils, if necessary.
@@SpeedCultureStudios I was thinking about getting NGK racing spark plugs and wanted to get your opinion on them.
@@cesarm04 I always recommend OEM for spark plugs
@@SpeedCultureStudios I’m about to get my valve cover gasket change and I was thinking of changing my spark plugs while at it. what spark plugs would you recommend? I have z1 test pipes and intake, your amazing scs catback exhaust, and I’m ECUTEK tuned. I read that the ngk racing spark plugs are good as well
@@cesarm04 OEM plugs. They are Denso. NGK are good, but I always recommend original equipment for plugs.
What's the level of difficulty on his job for someone that can do oil changes differential flushes air filters coolant exchanges transmission drain and fill and 4 cylinder tune-up when they are nice on top
Easy
Hey man, thanks for another video, I do have a question.. I've lowered my q50 just with eibach pro kit and I've 19" wheels with 255/35/19 .... My tires are completely dead because of the camber, when I lowered, the guy told me that it wasn't necessary align or anything but now I've to order new tires and I'm not sure if just an alingment will fix, some people told me something about check the toe, have you aligned yours? DO I need camber kit? Thanks man...
How do your tires look? But yes, if you lowered the car you need an alignment. Toe really chews up tires so there’s a possibility that’s the problem.
Front tires, the external part looks brand new after 6k miles, but the inner part it’s gone, like bad!! The rear tires same but the inner part not that bad... It might be the front weight because of the engine... I completely messed up.
@@MarceloSilva-wp2hx yeah sounds like a toe issue. How much are you lowered? You may just be able to get an alignment and get it within spec.
Do you have to get the oem spark plugs ??
You don’t have to it’s just recommended
So I change my spark plugs and month later I ran into a issue where when I accelerate in the low gears my car sometime hesitates and speeds up quick while barley pushing on the gas so if you have any ideas what it might be please let me know thanks dude.. oh car only had 45k miles
Wait I might of moved the throttle with a rag to clean the carbon build up that might be it ?
Pull the plugs and check gap. Might have a misfire on 1 or more cylinders. You also want to be sure they are torqued down far enough--again could cause a misfire. Also be sure the coil pack boot is pushed down onto the plug all the way.
@@SpeedCultureStudios will do thanks
@@ANerdsNerd it happend randomly only around 2 gear I have to push down on the gas for it to pick up speed then when it shifts it feels like the car goes back to full speed so it feels like I have to push harder on the gas at the begging to pick up when before this happend I badly had to push my toe down and it would be pick up speed
@@ANerdsNerd my fault didn’t know what cel is but it mean check engine light lol and no check engine light I did try new oil as well so maybe that could be it or maybe the fuel ? I did try out 89 and swap it back to 91
Hi, would this be the same procedure for a 2013 FX37 ?
Yes, should be very similar if not the same.
@@SpeedCultureStudios thank you. Will do them tomorrow
It went smoothly, not hard at all, I just moved the throttle bodies out of the way and it was smooth sailing from there.
@@mr.selfdestruct1677 excellent! Glad to hear it!!
Where the plugs from z1 already gaped?
Yes you shouldn’t need to gap them. Doesn’t hurt to check them though
Do you do any fuel treatment?
No I do not.
I’m curious is getting sparks plug from AutoZone any good for alternative?
No. Oem only
@@SpeedCultureStudios gotcha because I drive a 2015 Q50 3.7 AWD also been following your channel for quite some time now, it’ll be my first time working on changing spark plugs myself can a bit nervous, but also excited at the same time

Lol-if I had one, I’d do a video on it!
Man that Blk paint is on piont.."drippin wet"

Do you need to change the coils after you do the the spark plugs
No. Shouldn’t need to. If you have a bunch of miles on the car then it might be a good idea though.

man you look exactly like Mac Demarco lol
Not even close
I've heard someone mentioned that you can install R8 Audi Coil Packs to our Infiniti Q50s (with throttle body extensions). Supposedly will increase HP from 10-15 HP and improve 3-4 MPG. Have you heard of anyone doing this? Want to see a video on that.
