- "Atlantis" is an instrumental rock tune recorded by the British group The Shadows written by Jerry Lordan.[1]
It was released by EMI as a single in May 1963 on the Columbia label with "I Want You to Want Me" (Marvin) as the B-side. It spent 17 weeks in the UK Top 40 pop chart reaching #2 and holding that position for two weeks in late June/early July 1963.
This is a song i didnt realise id never done on youtube so this seemed the perfect opportunity to rectify and use my fixed guitar.
Hope you enjoy
Regards
Steve
Miss you Steve, your always in our hearts and will be eternally grateful for your musical contribution and talent. This man was always responsive and appreciative when you commented
Beautiful and you are missed. I love you
Miss you Steve 😢 you re the best , lovely shadows covers
Backing track and Steve is amazing.... Rip Steve so sad to hear of his passing 😢
Wonderful Steve!.......Sounded just like The Shadows.....always in my heart...always love your performance......missing you.....forever in peace....🌹.....dear friend......
I only discovered this channel a couple of nights ago as I searched RUclips for 'Atlantis', which is probably my favourite Shadows recording, and Steve's playing of it blew me away. Every bit as good as the original.
As I looked over his channel I wondered why there's been no uploads for years as this guy is so talented. Just then, as I watched one of his other great covers, on reading the comments I've discovered he passed away nearly 4 years ago. That's so upsetting to read. Not only was he very talented he was still so young.
I just wish I had known of his music before his sad passing. But he has left us some lovely recordings on RUclips to enjoy and I thank him for that. May he rest in peace.
Excellent job Steve, one of the shadows best n one of my favourites
Another guitarist performing the shadows hits perfectly 👍👍👍👍👍Red Fender Stractocaster Guitar Hank Marvin Favourite

Excellent work. Tone, playing...this is it. I'm looking for what echo unit to get for my own playing tonight, and I happened to hear yours. Thanks!! And you did it without Norrie Paramor, a $10,000 microphone, or Abbey Roads studios. Good work, man.
Nice cover Steve! Good job.
Great playing and sound, bravo Steve!
Greetings,
Laci

Wolfgang
+Wolfgang T Hi Wolfgang thanks very much, the trippling echo effect really makes this song for me and the hall and collins unit does it so well. pleased you enjoyed all the best.
Hi Steve,
wow, what a sound ! One of the best I`ve heard (exept Hank himself). I never get bored listening to this wonderful tune even there are about 1 million covers here on youtube haha. I would range yours at one of the best ones. Have a nice weekend.
Ernst
+BurnsErnst Hi ernst thanks very much i really appreciate that epecially being compared to the man himself, its a great song and yes lots of covers on here, i cant believe i had never recorded it on here. have a good weekend all the best
Great quality, Steve!
My dad had one of the first Fender Stratocaster guitars in the 1950's. He loved it along with his Fender amp. The tune you played: "Atlantis" is one my dad might have tried when "The Shadows" recorded it. It's a favorite of mine.
Le son exact des Shadows ...bravo
You are very kind thank you.
you sound more like the shadows than the shadows, well done steve.
You are very kind thanks Jeffrey
Nice sound!
Thanks very much
Wow! very close to the original. Good job.
Thanks Travis appreciate it
Hi Steve!
Fantastic cover of this classic Shadows tune which is definitely one of my favourites. Lovely tone and playing and the muted sections were absolutely spot-on. This was a joy to listen to and thank you for sharing
Best Wishes
Chris
+Chris Hampton Hi Chris thanks for the comment, the muted section is really key on this for me as is the opening C note of the melody that is the hit parts for me. thanks again take care.
i really enjoyed listening to this sweet cover, it sounded awesome my friend :) i'm so glad you fixed your broken guitar :)
Thanks Mike. Yes this guitar is my main one these days.

Just found out today........suddenly....you are gone....Dear friend........rest in Peace...🌹
Bro you are a legend, making a squire sounds like a Fender... well played, just like the original!
Dam that guitar has a lot to give , really love it brilliant playing love it.
You have even put a softer touch to the playing, than Hank did it.
I definately enjoyed your cover, so silky smooth ...
Man you're good.
You are very kind thanks very much
Hi Steve,Thank you so much for replying so fast. The guys at the guitar shop recommended to start with
The Marshall MG10. Doesn’t have much in controls just Clean Volume, Overdrive( Gain ,Volume) and Contour.
Sounds like it’s the wrong amp. Mind you I do live in a Appartment so can’t have it to loud.
Went with your suggestion and ordered Zoom G3 with Shadow Patches today. If you can recommend an Amp please.
It’s a pleasure listening and learning a lot from your videos .
Thanks again and keep up the great work.
Cheers Gary
Hi Gary, a Marshall MG10 is a good little amp to start with but probably not ideal for shadows stuff. For home use something like a Vox Mini 3 would be ideal for you? Classic vox sounds but the echo patches make the most different. Let me know how you get on
Hi Steve,
Terrific cover ... excellent playing and lovely vintage sound!
All the best, James
+James Street hi James thanks your very kind, all the best
James Street both of you are marvelous!!
Awesome
Thanks very much
I like your 'dorky' look, you're hilarious and yet thoughtful
Put this on my playlist, love listening to this version by Steve 🙏🏻 I
Hi Steve, Thanks for the info. I'd like to pick your brains a little. Could I email you please ? I've been to your website, but couldn't find an option to write to you.
Thank you Steve, and keep up the great playing and videos, I can only see them getting beter and better as you experiment.
Cheers, Dave.
+Dave Murphy Hi Dave yes certainly no problem email address is steve@stevereynolds.co.uk
Thanks
This is beautiful indeed... I sincerely congratulate you! Greetings, Eugene
Hi Eugene appreciate that. Thanks very much
Hi Steve , that was beautifully played. Can you tell me which amp model you select on the Vox mini3 and do you add EQ to achieve that particular tone? All the best, Gerry.
Hi Gerry thanks for the comment. I used the ac30tb setting for this one. This was recorded direct with no eq changed
Even today so refreshing, Hats off to the Shadows !!
It is a beautiful song!
Could you do a cover of ‘zero X theme’ please Steve. The Shadows recorded this and actually appeared as Marionettes in Gerry Andersons Thunderbirds film ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’ in 1966. In the film their ‘puppets’ played on stage with a puppet Cliff joining them and they played ‘Shooting Star’. Perhaps you could cover this too. 😃👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Ive got the backing track to Zero X Theme some where but have never tried it. Will see what i can do!
good job, Steve...
Thanks very much
Thanks so much, great playing. love the shadows. you can use the green screen and do all kinds of photographic magic. good luck.
Thanks very much
Well you`ve played The Shadows last great track . After the dire Genie you`ve gave us a classic . Yes very much overplayed but it`s still worth a listen .I`d ay you`ve got the original b/ t as well . Sound and play is spot on .!0 / 10 Steve . My problem however with you guys who persist in Shadows numbers is after you`ve done all the great ones and it`s really is Greatest Hits Vol 1 and a few others there is nothing left .That`s my opinion Steve but I really feel too many are completely blinded by the reflection of Hank`s specs . There`s a lot better out there than Shadows post ` 63 . Still great job with this superb number ,I wished they had never went to Burns of London and the crap that followed .Bit like Mohamed Ali ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I like to remember his early career ......as with them when they were the bis not the chaff . Great play Steve but think about what I`ve said .I`m near 70 and saw & heard it all .I say this in all sincerity not for being a moaning old git . Roger
Roger Black.. funny how we all have different views on the Shads tracks! I am going on to 76yrs old in a few months time, have been there since they were the Drifters, and even before Cliff was discovered.. going back to Bill Haley, Gene Vincent, Buddy Holly, and all the greats that followed. I learned myself to play tbe guitar by ear.. no teachers here in 1959,when I was 15yrs old.. and no tablature, no Squire Strats, just a cheap Rosetti Lucky 7 Accoustic plywood box.. but it was magic to me, just after the postwar years of austerity. I learned every Shads track as they were released, as well as every other Guitar Instrumental track by other people, and in the 60's,half of the top twenty were instrumentals! I dearly loved the Burns Guitars, and the sound of them!! Couldn't afford them then, but made up for it when I retired! I now have the Burns 40th Anniversary Marvin, the Jim Burns series Anniversary Black Bison, and most Beautiful looking and playing, AND sounding guitar ever produced, in my opinion, which is the Burns London APACHE model.. perfection.. my 1978 original old Custom Shop Strat in Antigua finish is mint, but doesn't compare to my APACHE guitar.. just my opinion.. also I think the Burns/Shads period was a great time to be a lead guitarist as I was, in those days, on stage, playing Flingel Bunt, etc. Yes, I still plonk on with all the Shads tunes, have done all my pkaying life.. more than 60yrs now, but the dreaded Arthritis is taking it's toll now, adding to various Coal mining injuries to my hands since my years undergroung from.. 1959..also! It would be a funny old world if we all had the same opinion Roger! I think Steve plays admirably, by the way, Roger, what do you play? I am in the UK, and wondered if you are also? Cheers Mate for a great constructive criticism of a great player! Bill.
Love your channel,of course you don't need a Fender to create such sound.
Am doing the same, love playing on not original Strat's,sounds same to me
All the best from the Damned
Ciao,
Joop
Thanks very much Joop appreciate it. The squier is a great guitar i really like it and use it a lot.
Nice one Steve. Great sound and playing. Can you recommend the best and cheapest way to get that sound? Was thinking about the Zoom G3x? Thanks
Del
+Delboywww Hi Del thanks very much for the comment, pleased you enjoyed, watch this space for a review of the zoom g1 for shadows sound.
Retrocedo en el tiempo con ese sonido, felicitaciones
Hi Steve , been looking at you videos on Hank Marvin ,just perfect. I’m 60 and it’s made me want to start playing so I bought a electric guitar and a Boss Reverb RV-6 and a Fender Mirror Delay but still can’t get the Shadows sound.
I would really appreciate it if you could tell what I need.
Gary.
Hi Gary good to hear from you and thanks for the comments. The RV6 and Mirror delay should get you close, what amp are you using? you can get some echo units with the actual echos programmed such as the zoom g3 with halls echo patches.
Hi Steve
Nice version of one of my favourite Shadows singles. Also like the background using the green screen, very interesting to watch. Best Wishes, David
Thanks David pleased you enjoyed and thanks for the nice comment
💓💓💓 👌
Wow.Beautifully played and a great sound. Thanks for telling us about your affects but how do you get such a nice mix into a video. The orchestra backing sounds like its in the same room. Love it!
Thanks Norman the backing track and guitar are recorded together and then mixed with the video. Hope this helps
Hi Steve,Liked the Squire Strat sound,I have 1991Squire Marvin Signiture. My favourite Shads tune is Midnight
Your playing is superb well done.Regards Mick Grant.
Hi Michael thanks the squiers are great for the money i use mine most of the time cant beat them really. Midnight is a lovely song to play.
Hi Steve , great sound .you've got the shadows sound just right ....
Steve, I am just grateful to be able to listen to some excellent music preformed by you. So, press on. Would you consider playing California Blue ?
Thanks Henryk i have played California blue on here its a great track!
My "Elvis" of a xx! CENTURY ;) If I may... ;)
Hi steve. The Shad's great music, played well by you.
Have brought a Zoom GX1on (Ebay) with the patches already on, so advised. most of A0-9 & B0 - 9 and so-on sounds pretty much the same. how would i know if they are loaded as advised ??
Hello Steve, Excellent cover of this Shadows classic :).. just watched your other video regarding this guitar is it a US or Mex made Strat ?.. as i'm wondering if the Squier Classic Vibe neck just fits right on there !!.. sounds superb .. Bravo and both thumbs up from me !. All Of My Best, Gary
+Gary Evans Hi Gary thanks for the comment, pleased you liked it. The guitar is a squier classic vibe simon neil strat, i was very fortunate that there was an exact replacement neck on ebay when i received my damaged one so i just swapped it straight over. Its a great sounding guitar and nice smooth neck.
I'm a fan of the Classic Vibe Stratocaster as you know I play one too!!.. and the necks are wonderfully finished. Some say they are a little thin in the hand but I don't think so !!.. I will look forward to your next posting and hope you enjoy the rest of the Bank Holiday !!
Hi, Steve !
Very nicely done, my friend. I really should redo my version of this, as the tuning's a bit off in places... I'll enjoy yours in the meantime, how's that ? (smile)
All the BEST...Dan.
+Dan Sullivan Hi Dan thanks very much, enjoy it twice as its the weekend loll all the best.
Clear like a water, wonderful cover. Congratulations.
Atlantis, this is one of my favourites from The Shads early days. Beautifully played and Great Vids too.
Hi Steve. Lovely song you give me such inspiration. I have got my Shaftsbury Guitar out after 35 year from when I got it in 1982 and played a few duff notes at school. you make it look so easy I am trying to play Atlantis and Wonderful Land Im getting there very slowly.. Keep up your magical music. Best Wishes Steve from Folkestone Kent

Ahh OK you justr answered the echo question!
A nice unusual tune of theirs thats rarely covered is "THE BOYS" have a go at that :))
