i think the plot twist was amazing but the main problem were the time zones. i used to feel theo and kathy's life were happening in the present tense, it was at the end when i realised that it was way before the main story. this was pretty unclear

She never cheated. Towards the end, theo indirectly tries to make Kathy confess about her affair with Gabriel. He keeps saying something like 'my patient is Alicia who famously killed her husband', 'you remember that story?', 'it was all over the news' 'her husband Gabriel, he was a famous photographer.., remember?' Despite his continuous attempts, Kathy seemed totally unbothered, said she doesn't recall the story. Hence, She did not cheat. The whole affair, the stalking, it was all in the head of theo. And upon realising that, theo accepts his evil nature. And accepts the consequences.

Guyz Theo came to see Alicia again just to see why she killed Gabriel because theo did not expect that after he would left the Alicia's home the Alicia will just confront with Gabriel and they both just broke up instead the Alicia Morderd the Gabriel and theo came back to investigate why, there must be some sort of childhood tromatizing history of Alicia that she opened all his anguish on Gabriel.
There are some plotholes which I thought about for a very long time. First of all the fact that gheo had seen alicia's house for the first time when he followed gabriel to his home. But wlicia was seeing a strange man from wayy before and when she saw him he wws completely exposed as he also mentioned. So how come she did not see his face his figure or anything. Plus when the man was watching HER from behind in the park. That is also not mentioned. Why would he keep an eye on alicia instead of gabriel. Why didnt he just kill him that day. THEO HAD SOME SERIOUS MENTAL ISSUES. It is possible that theo might have become attracted to alicia. Why did he come back to her. When he knew that if alicia spoke the truth will be out. And if he was so confident that she will not speak than why did he had meetings with her. He could just have met the family members. Ok he asked for therapy sessions so that he could find more about her and take out the guilt. Then why agree on giving hir to paint. He knew, the diary was dangerous. WHY DID HE RETURN IT TO HER. and when she got injected why did he go away and not wait for her to die or get unconscious. Why did she not get unconscious the moment the drugs were injected. How can someone who hasnt written in ages be this fast. Someone whos so weak be able to write everything down. Why to mention elif and yuri at all. That means yuri was the one who got drugs for theo. But then was he involved? Did he already know? The ending made a lot of questions to me. Why didnt barbie tell abiut the man to anyone before. Why did tanya agreed to date max even though she knew the truth? What kind of a dangerous man was he? HOW COULD GABRIEL CHEAT ALICIA? And he had seggs with some other women came back and then had seggs with alicia and she didnt even notice. Kathy was an actress okay. But gabriel wasn't in the whole diary we cannot ever think that he could cheat. SO MANY QUESTIONS. And when there are so many suspects. The answer is clear. Theo was not interested in knowing abiut alicia at all. Anytime anyone was trying to tell him something he didnt feel like he wanted to hear. Infact he wasnt interested in alicia at all. WHAT DID THEO WANT??
Other than the 'not seeing his face and park' thing, the others aren't potholes. Theo thought Alicia might start to speak but he didn't think she would recognise him and even if she did he could always say it was hallucinations and paranoia again. He had some serious mental issues and a fucked up perspective but he thought he was helping her and giving paint was part of getting her to talk so he could help her. The diary was not dangerous when he gave it back to Alicia, because it did not mention that the masked man was Theo, in fact people might have considered it more proof of Alicia's madness and think she was hallucinating about a masked man, it only has proof against Christian giving her unofficial sessions. Yuri was selling drugs to patients but he didn't give the drugs to Theo, he probably got them on his own, either by having access to the nurse's stuff or by his own authority, Yuri wasn't involved with Theo. Barbie did tell people about the man but they didn't believe her or Alicia coz they thought Barbie wanted attention and Alicia was hallucinating. Tanya marrying Max was not a good decision but people do make such decisions all the time. Him being a dangerous man is only mentioned to throw us off and suspect Max, I think. Gabriel cheating was definitely a surprise but people even in happy marriages often do cheat even if it's shocking. And in this case, Gabriel was possibly not happy because Alicia is mentioned to have mood swings and even mental issues, ofc it's awful of him to cheat but regardless it does happen. Theo was probably interested in knowing about Alicia because he wanted to figure out how he caused Alicia to kill Gabriel and later he realised all their similarities and got even more interested in her. But he did not want to know about her from others such as the Professor or Christian or Theo because he thought he could understand her better as they had similar childhoods. And also because he knew the actual events of that night, which they didn't.

Like, we know that the persons who are polarimeter as somehow 'bad' from the beginning won't be the villains(that's a very basic thing for thrillers) ..but here their characters just didn't make sense at all..I felt like their characters lacked a proper storyline. But yeah ..out of all these, I would never ever understand how did a person who has been so weak for years and has been injected a dangerous drugs a few moments ago write all those 5 or 6 pages at a go within that time...the writing could have been a bit more thoughtful ig...
What I think, the impetus which drove him to treat Alicia, metaphysically arose from a more complex sense of moral responsibility. Maybe, he wanted to unfuck her life.
@@bristidas9640 Felix and Max in my opinion, were just backdrops. They were just tools used by Alex to complement Alicia's traumatic past. They also did to some extent throw me off. And while reading there were, atleast that's what I thought, infinite possibilities. And to the naive reader, max and Felix did a pretty damn good job. They had their own internal issues which were readily apparent. Only Gabriel, Yuri, Ruth and Kathy were portrayed as prospectively sane.
Why did Theo hurt Alicia, like tieying her on the chair and so on, i thought he only wanted to hurt Gabriel when he was stalking them the whole time? AND why did he act like he wasn’t the person, injecting her an overdose. Like he touched her wrist and then he was like „oh it was a murder not a suicide attempt!“ but he was the one who did this
I don't quite think Theo intended to hurt Alicia. I think he just wanted to expose Gabriel because he was cheating on Alicia at that moment with Kathy. I do agree that Theo went a bit too far to show Alicia the truth and ended up some-how influencing her to kill Gabriel without knowing. I think Theo wouldn't have probably gone that far if he knew about Alicia's past traumas as he relates to them himself in a way. So after he realized his mess up and felt guilty and scared whether if he had left behind any traces of his crime and wanted to cover up. Which made the situation even worse as he then realized that Alicia knew who he really was and tried to move her out the way and blame it on Christian so that he could get away with it. Theo also blamed Christian for not treating Alicia properly and continuing his mal-practice. So, Theo thought Christian deserved it. Now I personally think it's hard to understand the characters as they do have a lot of depth in their stories. Theo in my opinion is not a typical villain as he loved Kathy whole-heartedly and didn't want to lose her even though she was dishonest. I think the book ends with Theo realizing all his cover-up was in vain and Kathy didn't really love him anymore and his so-called love that he was so desperate to save was long gone anyway.

@@Pranay471Yes, Theo got arrested by Allen. Even better to say, he surrendered mentally just after the day he sent Alicia to coma. He was somehow waiting for someone to know the truth. Secondly , to answer ur question, Alicia did not know Theo's name from the first.When Theo broke into Alicia's house and everything happened, Theo was just a stranger to her. But Alicia recognised him when he joined The Grove.Theo himself mentioned his name to Alicia, thinking that she would not be able to recognise her. So that was simple and that is how she wrote the journal before going to coma by mentioning Theo 's name.

I loved the book and the plot twist i just finished reading it...I was kind of disappointed because the narrator whom we have been trusting since the page one turns out to be the villan. I understand that plot twist wont have come if narrator would have been suspecious from starting.this book had very different plot twist from few other books i had. Okay there was a lil specific detail about the gun involved that I noticed. Alicia had written in her diary that the gun belonged to gabriel and she hid it in the kitchen. But there's no mention in the book how theo got hold of it?
I think Theo stalked her unknowingly as he wanted to break the news to Alicia that Gabriel was cheating on her and possibly saw her hide the gun in the kitchen while he was stalking her.
I just completed the book in 2 days... And i think i found the book interesting only when that plot twist came besides that from beginning my reaction were like ohhh ok ok got it yeahh.. Like the book is only good for it's plot twist that one page only ( in my opinion ) and the narrator should've ended the story properly like when i came to the last page i was like 'that's it is that all... Is this the end ' so yeaahh its just my opinion and i think that according to me it was just not worth my time cause I've read a book that is whisper to me your lie and that book has such a great plot twist and it was worth reading... I have a doubt. In the end theo tried to kill alicia because he understood that she has recognized him and his crime may get exposed. But then why in the first place he went to treat alicia? There was always this risk of getting recognized.
Tbh,this is the first question that strucks to the reader's mind.As much as the book reveals,Theo felt guilty.He wanted to know why Alicia chose to shoot Gabriel.He was not an old acquintance of Alicia.Hence, he had no prior idea that his actions could lead Alicia's past damaged paranoid self to go such extents and shoot Gabriel not once,but five times in a row.He was a psychotherapist with a fucked up childhood. I don't think he was completely sane himself. He wanted to challenge himself. The liar acting of Kathy bored him and frustrated him to a very huge extent. Though,I have no idea why Theo thought in the first place that she won't recognise him..

sure thing. first off, theo just knew her vaguely and the fact that she was married to a man who was cheating on her, but he didn't know that she waa mentally unstable and that she would actually shoot him so being a psycho therapist, he felt that it was his duty to get to the root of why she was the way she was and what lead to the whole moment. 2) alicia apparently dies at the end. she wrote her last diary entry claiming that she doesn't have much time left. 3) yes theo did get arrested in the final scene of the book, which for some reason felt liberating to him. that's how the book ends hope i could answer all your questions!!! ❤️❤️❤️
when theo got to know she recognised him, he ends up killing her to protect himself, thats why she said she doesn't have much time left with her, so she writes the truth down in her journal. you can google it😭
I actually thought Yuri was the killer. Remember earlier in the story, when he told Theo about him falling in love with another woman and stalking her? I was waiting for the plot twist to expose Yuri. Alex did a nice job distracting me, if it wasn’t for that story, I would have found out about the plot twist since Alicia wrote in her diary about a man stalking her. Nice job 👍 . I loved the book.
As much as I understand that there are plot holes, but the book is good overall. The twist was good and it worked better as we were thinking of Theo as a good guy trying to save everything. Theo being the perpetrator was a good twist and not a plot hole as we were already told that how broken he was psychologically. So him acting all psychotic was not totally unbelievable.

that's very true tbh. his first responsibility was to confront kathy in that situation, and that was where the book dropped its first red flag about theo not really being mentally stable enough to be a psycho therapist and therefore turned out to be an unreliable speaker at the end
When Teo was investigating the case with questioning Alicia and speaking with family members friends etc, do you think that he was trying to find out all this information to understand if Alicia was the girl he was stalking? Did he not know all along before investigating that it was possibly him until he read her diary? Also with Alicia staying silent from the begining do you think this was because she knew all along the psychotherapist was the stalker or do you think she only found that out near the end when she starting talking to him or did she always know?
So basically was theo doing all this investigating for himself to find out if alicia was the person he stalked? Or do you think he was just passionate about helping her and completely had no clue that it had anything to do with him and only realised after all the investigating that the man she wrote out in her diary about was actually theo? no no, theo knew all along that this was the same girl, but he wanted to get to know her better to understand her condition and alicia wasnt sure that theo was the same guy who stalked. she was silent because she was traumatised by the whole thing but in the end when she did speak and told theo about the night when she murdered her husband she told a false version of the story because she doubted that theo was her stalker and it was confirmed when she saw the visible confusion on theos face
Theo knew from the beginning that he was the guy stalking Alicia, he became her therapist so he could prove to himself that the main reason Alicia killed Gabriel was because she was mentally ill and not because of what he did. She was silent because she was traumatised but she remained silent with Theo because she had a feeling he was the guy stalking but she wasn’t sure until the second therapy session when he repeated something that made her realise Theo was the stalker that’s why she attacked him during that session. But I think she stayed silent for the rest of the time until the end because she was either scared of Theo or maybe she didn’t believe herself again that Theo was the stalker idk 🤷🏽♀️

as far as i remember it was mentioned that she tried multiple suicidal attempts. i guess that's when she did so. Otherwise if you remember she was tied to wires and when she moved she had pain and cutting sensation, probably then she got cuts on her wrists

Honestly this book had some good things about it, but the “plot twist” was predictable about halfway through. I wouldn’t recommend it. I was left very unsatisfied.

Notice how he started imagining his wife's infidelity only after he started doing drugs again. The years before that, when he was not using drugs, there was no suspicion.. they lived a happy married life for years until that one night he did drugs and 'saw' the emails. Theo at one point, mentions that he somewhat liked that feeling he got when he saw(hallucinated) her cheat. Hence, started imagining more and more twisted hallucinations. Because deep down, he LIKED the idea of being cuc*ed. Hence, started projecting.
I don't understand why people do not get this point.. the hints are given by the author all over the book. Obviously he would not write *SHE DID NOT CHEAT* in bold letters, it's a 'suspense novel' after all. The reader is not supposed to believe everything that is written by the narrator, because the narrator is clearly unreliable.
Guyz Theo came to see Alicia again just to see why she killed Gabriel because theo did not expect that after he would left the Alicia's home the Alicia will just confront with Gabriel and they both just broke up instead the Alicia Morderd the Gabriel and theo came back to investigate why, there must be some sort of childhood tromatizing history of Alicia that she opened all his anguish on Gabriel.
There are some plotholes which I thought about for a very long time. First of all the fact that gheo had seen alicia's house for the first time when he followed gabriel to his home. But wlicia was seeing a strange man from wayy before and when she saw him he wws completely exposed as he also mentioned. So how come she did not see his face his figure or anything. Plus when the man was watching HER from behind in the park. That is also not mentioned. Why would he keep an eye on alicia instead of gabriel. Why didnt he just kill him that day. THEO HAD SOME SERIOUS MENTAL ISSUES. It is possible that theo might have become attracted to alicia. Why did he come back to her. When he knew that if alicia spoke the truth will be out. And if he was so confident that she will not speak than why did he had meetings with her. He could just have met the family members. Ok he asked for therapy sessions so that he could find more about her and take out the guilt. Then why agree on giving hir to paint. He knew, the diary was dangerous. WHY DID HE RETURN IT TO HER. and when she got injected why did he go away and not wait for her to die or get unconscious. Why did she not get unconscious the moment the drugs were injected. How can someone who hasnt written in ages be this fast. Someone whos so weak be able to write everything down. Why to mention elif and yuri at all. That means yuri was the one who got drugs for theo. But then was he involved? Did he already know? The ending made a lot of questions to me. Why didnt barbie tell abiut the man to anyone before. Why did tanya agreed to date max even though she knew the truth? What kind of a dangerous man was he? HOW COULD GABRIEL CHEAT ALICIA? And he had seggs with some other women came back and then had seggs with alicia and she didnt even notice. Kathy was an actress okay. But gabriel wasn't in the whole diary we cannot ever think that he could cheat. SO MANY QUESTIONS. And when there are so many suspects. The answer is clear. Theo was not interested in knowing abiut alicia at all. Anytime anyone was trying to tell him something he didnt feel like he wanted to hear. Infact he wasnt interested in alicia at all. WHAT DID THEO WANT??
You forgot, "How did Jean-Felix know that Alicia needed to be careful?"
Other than the 'not seeing his face and park' thing, the others aren't potholes. Theo thought Alicia might start to speak but he didn't think she would recognise him and even if she did he could always say it was hallucinations and paranoia again. He had some serious mental issues and a fucked up perspective but he thought he was helping her and giving paint was part of getting her to talk so he could help her. The diary was not dangerous when he gave it back to Alicia, because it did not mention that the masked man was Theo, in fact people might have considered it more proof of Alicia's madness and think she was hallucinating about a masked man, it only has proof against Christian giving her unofficial sessions.
Yuri was selling drugs to patients but he didn't give the drugs to Theo, he probably got them on his own, either by having access to the nurse's stuff or by his own authority, Yuri wasn't involved with Theo.
Barbie did tell people about the man but they didn't believe her or Alicia coz they thought Barbie wanted attention and Alicia was hallucinating.
Tanya marrying Max was not a good decision but people do make such decisions all the time. Him being a dangerous man is only mentioned to throw us off and suspect Max, I think.
Gabriel cheating was definitely a surprise but people even in happy marriages often do cheat even if it's shocking. And in this case, Gabriel was possibly not happy because Alicia is mentioned to have mood swings and even mental issues, ofc it's awful of him to cheat but regardless it does happen.
Theo was probably interested in knowing about Alicia because he wanted to figure out how he caused Alicia to kill Gabriel and later he realised all their similarities and got even more interested in her. But he did not want to know about her from others such as the Professor or Christian or Theo because he thought he could understand her better as they had similar childhoods. And also because he knew the actual events of that night, which they didn't.
@@anne__541 Ya truly, if avid book readers like us start talking about potholes...there are MANY. The whole MAX and JEAN-FELIX part just didn't make sense to me. Like, we know that the persons who are polarimeter as somehow 'bad' from the beginning won't be the villains(that's a very basic thing for thrillers) ..but here their characters just didn't make sense at all..I felt like their characters lacked a proper storyline. But yeah ..out of all these, I would never ever understand how did a person who has been so weak for years and has been injected a dangerous drugs a few moments ago write all those 5 or 6 pages at a go within that time...the writing could have been a bit more thoughtful ig...
What I think, the impetus which drove him to treat Alicia, metaphysically arose from a more complex sense of moral responsibility. Maybe, he wanted to unfuck her life.
@@bristidas9640 Felix and Max in my opinion, were just backdrops. They were just tools used by Alex to complement Alicia's traumatic past. They also did to some extent throw me off. And while reading there were, atleast that's what I thought, infinite possibilities. And to the naive reader, max and Felix did a pretty damn good job. They had their own internal issues which were readily apparent. Only Gabriel, Yuri, Ruth and Kathy were portrayed as prospectively sane.
Why did Theo hurt Alicia, like tieying her on the chair and so on, i thought he only wanted to hurt Gabriel when he was stalking them the whole time?
AND why did he act like he wasn’t the person, injecting her an overdose. Like he touched her wrist and then he was like „oh it was a murder not a suicide attempt!“ but he was the one who did this
I don't quite think Theo intended to hurt Alicia. I think he just wanted to expose Gabriel because he was cheating on Alicia at that moment with Kathy. I do agree that Theo went a bit too far to show Alicia the truth and ended up some-how influencing her to kill Gabriel without knowing. I think Theo wouldn't have probably gone that far if he knew about Alicia's past traumas as he relates to them himself in a way. So after he realized his mess up and felt guilty and scared whether if he had left behind any traces of his crime and wanted to cover up. Which made the situation even worse as he then realized that Alicia knew who he really was and tried to move her out the way and blame it on Christian so that he could get away with it. Theo also blamed Christian for not treating Alicia properly and continuing his mal-practice. So, Theo thought Christian deserved it. Now I personally think it's hard to understand the characters as they do have a lot of depth in their stories. Theo in my opinion is not a typical villain as he loved Kathy whole-heartedly and didn't want to lose her even though she was dishonest. I think the book ends with Theo realizing all his cover-up was in vain and Kathy didn't really love him anymore and his so-called love that he was so desperate to save was long gone anyway.

I watched it disappear, vanish from my fingertips", meaning Alicia died and he's finally free from his guilt for her.

Secondly , to answer ur question, Alicia did not know Theo's name from the first.When Theo broke into Alicia's house and everything happened, Theo was just a stranger to her.
But Alicia recognised him when he joined The Grove.Theo himself mentioned his name to Alicia, thinking that she would not be able to recognise her.
So that was simple and that is how she wrote the journal before going to coma by mentioning Theo 's name.

I loved the book and the plot twist i just finished reading it...I was kind of disappointed because the narrator whom we have been trusting since the page one turns out to be the villan. I understand that plot twist wont have come if narrator would have been suspecious from starting.this book had very different plot twist from few other books i had. Okay there was a lil specific detail about the gun involved that I noticed. Alicia had written in her diary that the gun belonged to gabriel and she hid it in the kitchen. But there's no mention in the book how theo got hold of it?
I think Theo stalked her unknowingly as he wanted to break the news to Alicia that Gabriel was cheating on her and possibly saw her hide the gun in the kitchen while he was stalking her.

I just completed the book in 2 days... And i think i found the book interesting only when that plot twist came besides that from beginning my reaction were like ohhh ok ok got it yeahh.. Like the book is only good for it's plot twist that one page only ( in my opinion ) and the narrator should've ended the story properly like when i came to the last page i was like 'that's it is that all... I have a doubt. In the end theo tried to kill alicia because he understood that she has recognized him and his crime may get exposed. But then why in the first place he went to treat alicia? There was always this risk of getting recognized.
Tbh,this is the first question that strucks to the reader's mind.As much as the book reveals,Theo felt guilty.He wanted to know why Alicia chose to shoot Gabriel.He was not an old acquintance of Alicia.Hence, he had no prior idea that his actions could lead Alicia's past damaged paranoid self to go such extents and shoot Gabriel not once,but five times in a row.He was a psychotherapist with a fucked up childhood. I don't think he was completely sane himself. He wanted to challenge himself. The liar acting of Kathy bored him and frustrated him to a very huge extent. Though,I have no idea why Theo thought in the first place that she won't recognise him..

first off, theo just knew her vaguely and the fact that she was married to a man who was cheating on her, but he didn't know that she waa mentally unstable and that she would actually shoot him so being a psycho therapist, he felt that it was his duty to get to the root of why she was the way she was and what lead to the whole moment.
2) alicia apparently dies at the end. she wrote her last diary entry claiming that she doesn't have much time left.
3) yes theo did get arrested in the final scene of the book, which for some reason felt liberating to him. that's how the book ends

I actually thought Yuri was the killer. Remember earlier in the story, when he told Theo about him falling in love with another woman and stalking her? I was waiting for the plot twist to expose Yuri. Alex did a nice job distracting me, if it wasn’t for that story, I would have found out about the plot twist since Alicia wrote in her diary about a man stalking her. Nice job 👍 . I loved the book.
As much as I understand that there are plot holes, but the book is good overall. The twist was good and it worked better as we were thinking of Theo as a good guy trying to save everything. Theo being the perpetrator was a good twist and not a plot hole as we were already told that how broken he was psychologically. So him acting all psychotic was not totally unbelievable.

that's very true tbh. his first responsibility was to confront kathy in that situation, and that was where the book dropped its first red flag about theo not really being mentally stable enough to be a psycho therapist and therefore turned out to be an unreliable speaker at the end

When Teo was investigating the case with questioning Alicia and speaking with family members friends etc, do you think that he was trying to find out all this information to understand if Alicia was the girl he was stalking? Did he not know all along before investigating that it was possibly him until he read her diary? Also with Alicia staying silent from the begining do you think this was because she knew all along the psychotherapist was the stalker or do you think she only found that out near the end when she starting talking to him or did she always know?
So basically was theo doing all this investigating for himself to find out if alicia was the person he stalked? Or do you think he was just passionate about helping her and completely had no clue that it had anything to do with him and only realised after all the investigating that the man she wrote out in her diary about was actually theo? Do you think he had no idea until the end. As he wouldn't have known Alicia's name the night he broke in to the house and only years later he ended up working with her as she wouldn't speak maybe he had no idea?
no no, theo knew all along that this was the same girl, but he wanted to get to know her better to understand her condition and alicia wasnt sure that theo was the same guy who stalked. she was silent because she was traumatised by the whole thing but in the end when she did speak and told theo about the night when she murdered her husband she told a false version of the story because she doubted that theo was her stalker and it was confirmed when she saw the visible confusion on theos face

Theo knew from the beginning that he was the guy stalking Alicia, he became her therapist so he could prove to himself that the main reason Alicia killed Gabriel was because she was mentally ill and not because of what he did. She was silent because she was traumatised but she remained silent with Theo because she had a feeling he was the guy stalking but she wasn’t sure until the second therapy session when he repeated something that made her realise Theo was the stalker that’s why she attacked him during that session. But I think she stayed silent for the rest of the time until the end because she was either scared of Theo or maybe she didn’t believe herself again that Theo was the stalker idk 🤷🏽♀️

But why did Theo mentioned about the marks of injection on Alicia's hand and it was an attempted murder,he could have been silent and let everyone believe that it was suicidal overdose because this makes more sense he would have saved himself,why tell everyone about the murder that you committed and start the investigation.

The love or possessiveness for Kathy ,don't know but it meant interserting plot where actually a pscaterist is a patient it self... so depth in this book..

Honestly this book had some good things about it, but the “plot twist” was predictable about halfway through. I wouldn’t recommend it. I was left very unsatisfied.
