@@tweeztweet287 I agree, much more liberty with netflix as well. Seeeems like the Sy-Fy channel is really backing Todd McFarlane in this though so I'm really confused as to whats going to happen
This dark and moody beat 'em up requires a fair amount of investment, but the top-notch presentation and the much deeper than usual fighting system make Spawn well worth the effort and time it takes to get into it.
*Good Lord* ,This is truly a game that's not afraid to kick your ass many, many times! This is *no* _Double Dragon 3_ in terms of how hard it is, thankfully. But, it's still a decent Beat Em' Up, though not without it's flaws.
This game randomly just popped in my head 🤣. I remember the summer my buddy and I set to be it. Man did we start getting frustrated lol. You don't have games like these anymore. Thank you for the vid! Brought back some good memories.
I have great memories with it, it was a nice age for gaming. Games came out and you could just buy them at the store. Spawn in particular was simple, it was just fun and badass never got more complicated than that (except special moves)
It could be, if someone hacked it and fixed the controls for the powers. It's enough to deal with managing your level over the entire game, the needlessly difficult inputs ruin it.
I did not see the value of playing this game when i was thirteen and it was a new release. I lacked the patience to master the controls, but i'm glad you have. I see the full potential of this game now, thanks for that.
I remember playing this once on a rental. It reminded me of Capcom's X-Men, Mutant Apocalypse and Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems, but was much tougher than either of those games. Nice job beating this one!
Yeah, after Bowser finally got Mario and Luigi they went straight to hell for killing so many innocent Goombas and Koopa Troopers that Malbolgia turned them into his Praetorian guards.
It's hilarious that the red one's fireballs bounce but the green one's go straight just like in Super Smash Bros, even though this game predates SSB64 by a few years.
I remember this game, I remember seeing my brother play this a bunch and holy crap it's hard. Also I think Spawn should be a DLC character for Mortal Kombat 11
Two interesting things from the story of the game. 1- Angela toke some time to intervene between Spawn and Redeemer 2- Kincaid died in the early issues when Spawn comics was still only starting. In the game not only Angela clearly sided Spawn instead, Kincaid also got killed for a more useful purpose to open a gate to right spot in some hell. It would have changed a lot of the original comics perhaps for the better.

I remember I beat this game without using a single power. Not to be a try hard but I had no manual and no gamefaqs so I didn’t even know spawn had powers lol. Boy was I salty when I finally saw a let’s play of this and the guy showed off all the moves.
Ukiyotei, the development team behind Hook and Skyblazer, were behind this too, and it's another overall quality game from a team that was fairly new at the time. (Hook was their first effort) This is probably one of the better comic-based games from the 16-bit era, as it goes to great lengths to feel like the comic. A very hard game, and the controls and attacks can be frustrating at times, but very much worth it.
Skyblazer was one of the best snes games ever made, pretty crazy considering. It's a shame that the quality of games from all the big companies has dropped so drastically, especially Nintendo (I'm not sure they even know that they're a video game company anymore). Luckily the indie game scene is picking up the slack, they're actually making better games than any of the big guys, and they're all super cheap!!! I hope they continue to make quality 2D games, I enjoy 3D games too, but for certain genres like metroidvania you have to go 2D.
The fight with Redeemer/Anti-Spawn reminds me of the final duel in Shinobi 3... and all the wall climbing/life sacrificing/needless spike deaths I had to do to get there... still, I have fond memories of that game. I only own one Spawn comic, but I have watched some analysis videos and dug into the lore... kinda makes me want to learn even more about him. I'll have to see if the local recycling center is had them stashed somewhere.
I haven't heard the soundtrack to this game since I rented it from Blockbuster as a kid. Immediately rekindles a memory. So... what did Malbolgeia give Spawn at the end?
I actually played this game before I knew what Spawn really was. Now that I’ve started reading Spawn, I’m feeling like coming back to it and seeing how my perceptions of it are changed
I have read 303 issues of my boy Spawn and I never beat a game on him. I played the awful Spawn ps1, Spawn armaggeddon which is good with cheats, Spawn snes, Mk11 Spawn
So, I have a question. I never understood the numbers on the right side. I know they serve a purpose for this so someone tell me what it means and what will truly happen if it goes to zero? And I don't get the ending...
The short, simple version is Al (Spawn) has a limited amount of let's call it "Hell energy." This lets him use his powers such as blast people with said energy, repair his body, teleport, cure cancer. Pretty much anything. The big But in the equation is when he runs out he goes straight back to hell, soul and mind lost for good. The counter represents his remaining energy, and is displayed in the comic.
They should have worked on the platforming more elaborately!! Because basically this was trying to be Castlevania symphony of the night before that game was even conceived!!!! Spawn has always been a concept ahead of its time......
Wow, seriously? That's nuts, I would've totally expected it to be the other way around. But then again, I guess insane price gouging does tend to be the norm anymore for the any of the old NES and SNES games. I'm glad I did most of my collecting years ago, I'd never be willing to afford some of the awesome stuff I have if I had to buy it at the current prices. I don't do comics, but I'm guessing that that market hasn't quite trended the same?
Well, those initial run of Image comics were SUPER buzzy (and if Spawn the Video Game is worth 10 bucks, it's worth more than that Spawn #1 is). Like, everybody was talking about the creator owned Image comics and how it was going to revolutionize the entire industry. For a while it kind of did, but it was just sort of more of the same, i.e., the same superhero tripe that had been done to death, just under a more modern, edgier coat of paint (super violent characters that kill without remorse and whatnot...SO EDGY), so Image's star faded pretty quickly, but it's remained fairly steady in the industry overall (The Walking Dead is an Image title). I got the first issue of all the initial run comics, Spawn, Cyber Force, Savage Dragon, Youngblood, etc. They're all worth about what I paid for them initially, a few bucks each. By this time I was already getting burned out on superhero stuff myself (this would have been my late teens), and only The Maxx really stood out to me as something completely different (being a big fan of it's creator, Sam Keith, helped a lot, too). I got out of comics entirely just a couple of years later, but I kept most of my collection. Now if I want comics, I'll usually go for a Heavy Metal magazine or something. Something underground or indie.
Funny you uploaded this, since I recently found Spawn to be relevant again after learning about the outcome he had against Kratos from God of War in Death Battle. I'll challenge this game if I get the chance!
