Larry Bird's masterpiece. Complete and utter domination.
30 triple double in 86 is insane 😂😭 larry is really him
Bird dismantling the team that took out the ‘86 Lakers in five games.
You couldn't play better than Larry Bird did in this game.
I like the way he scoots around 2 players to get past 'em to the 3 point line -- and puts it in from the far corner.
JJ Redsick should watch this from start to finish.

1986 Boston Celtics are the greatest NBA team of all time. 4/5 were Hall of Famers and Danny Ainge was an All-Star. Unbelievable.
😅😅
And Bill Walton off the bench. 5 Hall of Famers on that team.
Ainge deserves the hall too. He'll get it as an exec. Most underrated athlete in U.S. history.
@peterhuston9971 no he was rubbish.. plus white..
Still don’t know how Danny Ainge is not in the nba hall of fame! The dude could pass and shoot much needed three pointers at will!
Even more momentously, I graduated high school a week later.
They beat Moses Malone in 81, Kareem in 84 and Hakeem in 86.
Larry freaking Legendary ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
RIP Bill Walton
The younger gen doesn't realize how deadly Larry Legend was.
Prime vs. Prime Bird would humiliate Bron Day In/Day out.
And that's just the mental game we're talkin' 'bout.
Stop the BS Bron too athletic for bird
@papaadot9369
Hehe... LeFlop doesn't even stand a hairline chance... and I'm just talkin' bout mind games! 😆

Lebum would be completely humiliated by Bird. You say he doesn’t match up athletically, but you have to remember that Bird schooled some of the most athletic players of his time (all of whom would be great in todays game), including Jerome Kersey, James Worthy, Dennis Rodman, Julius Erving, Dominique Wilkins, etc. Bird is a highly underrated athlete, much quicker than the folklore around him admits. He was also a million times smarter than Lebum and could beat you in more ways. Better outside shooter, passer, help defender and didn’t need to go to 100 different teams to get a ring.
@@MaximusWolfe watch your mouth
The crowd was electric.
Some people have considered Hakeem The Dream the greatest big man ever, but even with Ralph Sampson in the middle, this Celtics team owned him, and the rest of the league. 40-1 at home in the Boston Garden? I'd put this team up against any team in history.
Well, Akeem was the best player on the floor or 2nd behind Bird...don't be naive. Hakeem Olajuwon averaged 24.7 points, 11.8 rebounds and 3.2 blocks. Those are elite stats. Compare to what Jabbar averaged in his finals, 23.5 points, 9.1 rebounds. Celts could not handle Akeem. But they did everyone else.
@@SugoiEnglish1
Not a very deep comment. Kareem played in the NBA finals at age 40, 41, and 42. Hakeem retired at age 39. Apples and oranges. Also Hakeem averaged 24.7 PPG on just 52.6% true shooting which is pretty inefficient. In the 14 other games he played in the 1986 NBA playoffs, he averaged 27.8 PPG on 58.3% true shooting. So yes, they very much handled Hakeem by cutting his volume and efficiency. And also he has 16 turnovers and only 11 assists, a putrid assist to turnover ratio. Also 11.8 rebounds? Charles Oakley, a power forward has a 20.5% rebound percentage against Celtics in 1986 playoffs. Hakeem’s rebound percentage was 15.9%, far from elite. That wouldn’t even crack the top 10 in % in the 1986 playoffs. Alton lister of the bucks also rebounded at 20% against the Celtics in 1986 playoffs. And again, on defense the Celtics averaged 111.9 point per 100 possessions against the rockets, while the rockets allowed the other 3 teams they played to 104.8 points per 100 possessions. So yes, the Celtics very much “handled” Hakeem. And Hakeem did not outplay bird, not even close.
@@roundtable3501 nobody else on the rockets could realistically Contain bird for long. Not a super hard day for him on the court. Averaged a 24p triple double.
The 1986 Celtics atop of their 67 wins. literally had a literal Army of HOF defensive Big men they threw at the Dream. Somehow, he still put up about 25 12 3.2b.
Yes lower than his other 86 playoff runs. but that’s to be expected with walton parish etc. So To compare their stats would be absurd.
If it wasn’t for Akeem it wouldn’t have gone to 6.. Sampson struggled while Mchale averaged 26PPG in these finals.
Also bird was still in his prime Akeem was not yet in his only 2 years in league.
I’d still give Bird the edge and say he was best player on the court in this finals. I just think you are underestimating how well akeem played for what *all* the Celtics dished to him. *in only his 2nd year*
@@SugoiEnglish1Celts handled him just fine. Lots of times they let the star player score and concentrated on disrupting the flow of the game by stealing the ball. Bird passing between Hakeem's legs was unnerving to him.
They did the same with Jordan. Never lost a playoff game to Jordan.
@@marykuettner752stop jordan had zero help against the celtics during the 80s 😂 if bird switches teams with jordan bird would lose every game if jordan had hall of famers on his team ✌️
Larry-the GOAT
A triple-double to get his championship number 3. The greatest nba team in NBA History. The 1986 Boston Celtics.
96 bulls ? 😂
96 bulls and 17 warriors were the only teams that were better than that 86 celtics team period
@@michaelsevilla3697 You missed two apostrophes, and a comma (Exclamation Point) P.S. No way the 17' Warriors were better than the 86' Celtics. They had five Hall of Fame players and a Hall of Fame coach.

I think bird wanted to play against and beat magic in 1986. Too bad in 1987 the Celtics were hobbled with injuries especially to mchale
Can someone here explain how erratic low impulse control Ralph Sampson is in the hall of fame while the much more valued Danny Ainge is not?

You could put the 1992's Dream Team in there. Nothing could stop this.
Jordan, by himself, with no supporting cast, at less than 100% & in only his second season, cooked this team in their own house & in the Playoffs. BY HIMSELF! And you're telling me that that Jordan with a supporting cast wouldn't beat them?

Makes me cringe when they say bird would be a nobody today.
We know if Jokic and Doncic were superstars in today's NBA, obviously Larry Bird would dominate.
Todays game is based off what Larry Bird did 🤌
Bird would be even more dominant today.
Bird, McHale, Parish, and Walton. Can't be guarded. Even by Hakeem and Ralph.
People forget the 86 celtics were BIG. Mchale at 6'11" played taller, Walton, Chief 7 footers plus, Bird a legit 6'9.5" who rebounds taller, and tall-ish guards. Imagine the Mavs playing the 86 version! Mchale would be yelling "Chamber" all the damn time.
Thx for this! Awesome quality too!
Simply Larry Legend !!
Looked like the first year that they tried to stop the fans from rushing the court.
Only thing missing in this highlight vid is his jump ball with Olajuwon that he somehow won!?!!
there are stars and there are superstars but there is only one Legend
:43 This is what is missing, amongst other things, in today's game. Rebound. Quick outlet. Guys SPRINTING as fast as possible. 2 passes. Lay-up. Beautiful basketball. The Celtics/Lakers games were so intense, too. They ran their asses off. Nothing like today's BS.
U just never knew if he was gonna pass or pull up and shoot
So unpredictable and genius
Well, this would be great except for the two f-ing graphics that manage to actually cover the basket most of the time.
5:44 the croud gozz crazy
Couldn't watch it due to the annoying banner in the upper left. Seriously?
That bothers you? Seriously? Classic Sports Network would put stuff like that a lot when they were rebroadcasting these games. Blaming the uploader is comprehensively ridiculous.
Nobody who ever played 🏀 was more complete in every phase that mattered most, especially when he was in his prime. To me that makes him the greatest of all time. I concede that Jordan was dominant for longer. It depends on your metric I suppose.
Why was the banner left up blocking the action? I gave up watching after a minute cuz it was so annoying.
Classic Sports Network did that a lot when they were rebroadcasting these games. Yeah they could have put it all the way at the edge, but it is what it is.
Back then there were 4:3 televisions (which is what this game was broadcast in) and 16:9 televisions (common today). If someone is watching this on a 16:9 television, there will be black bars on the sides (like probably appear on your screen). To get rid of that, a person could select zoom-to-fit, which would make anything on the top or bottom edge disappear. So to keep the banner visible in zoom-to-fit, it has to be far enough from the edge when not zoomed in.
Larry Legend! The Real GOAT of basketball. Sorry Jondan, Larry beat you in your prime like no other.
The 2k style stat keeper is cool but that banner showing the game doesn't need to be there more than like 5 seconds
Every single shot all I saw was Hou vs. Bos
awesome edit
4:09 - how come Bird didn't get credit for that block on basketball reference?
50 " W "s and " 1 " loss at home!
Watching the highlights here you would think the score was like 100 to 0.. you have to put highlights of both teams scoring..
That banner is in the way.
Kobe Bryant I miss him 😭😭😭
Tatum you’re next buddy
Poor pricks. No clue what they were walking into.
The old Garden was brutal.
Bird said he should of retired after this game...it never was as good after 86
They went to the finals the next year. And Eastern finals the year after. He played for 6 years after this and had great numbers 25 10 7 for an avg year
@@Mark-ro3gx im just actually quoting him...i thought he was great even as the Celtics faded from contention
@@danielwarner869 Statistically and individually, his 86-87 season may have actually been better. He averaged more points, assists, had a better FT and FG percentage then his 85-86 year. Team success wise, no it never was again as great as the 86 title year (though they got to the finals in 87 in a very physically and emotionally tough year after losing there #2 pick with the the death of Len Bias) but there's not much if any reason to believe that he wasn't just as good if not better the year after his last championship as a Celtic.
@@Mark-ro3gx all true, however this was the last year that he was the best in the game. Injuries , Magic Johnson becoming more of a scorer, and than Michael Jordan becoming God.
@danielwarner869 It was the feeling of total concentration and awareness in this game that I think he was speaking of. He'd never experienced it to that level before and never felt it again, is my understanding.
Celtics brought Rockets back to Boston to Punish them!
Realize that was a near triple double in the first half of a finals clincher
Still 1-2 vs the Lakers in the Finals.
Cuz the Lakers didn’t show up.
I thought the Celtics couldn't run the fastbreak, they are out running the Rockets up & down the court
Celtics would not win another title until 2008 with garnett, Allen and pierce.
Yeah. I still can't believe it took them that long to win another. It seemed to go downhill for Boston after Len Bias died.
@@davidpaz9389well when you have Len Bias and Reggie Lewis literally dying, what was supposed to be the franchise’s cornerstones for the next decade, that’s going to be really difficult to replace. That’s the equivalent of Kobe and Shaq dying right as Kobe was drafted. There goes 5 championships and in comes about a 30 year championship drought for them until Lebron comes along.
Another example could be Steph Curry and Klay Thompson dying. Draymond Green as the team’s best player isn’t gonna get it done lol. The Warriors dynasty ceases to ever exist and would still ringless since the 70s.
If it weren’t for Bias and Lewis’s death, the Celtics would’ve clearly won multiple championships throughout the 90s and perhaps early 2000s. I’d say around 3-4 extra rings. But then they probably wouldn’t have been bad enough to get Pierce and form that big three later on down the road? Idk but that’s the biggest reason why they went into a drought for that long. Just unlucky.
Bird > LeBron.
Absolutely not
