These are pretty cool! I've visited Rainham L/C and Manor Way L/C a few times now and haven't noticed these! I'll keep a look out next time I visit those crossings!
(The other Rainham) As a lighting tech, am intrigued to know what surface, facing what way, was the basis for the Lux meter's measurement. Once again you are spoiling us, Ambassador :-)
Thanks! It's the same with how the tide is reference to show its height and the power of the wind turbine... what is indicated is equivalent to 4 turbines running at maximum capacity! They're nice looking but from a functional purpose, are they really relevant
The huge wind turbine at Green Park, Reading is classified as 2 megawatt (peak). 9 megawatts seems very unlikely from a single turbine but could be the total output of a wind-farm comprising several turbines.
If they were to look like litmus paper then they should've been multicoloured. Interesting, though I'm sure they could have been engineered a bit better.
Not *that* multicoloured. Unused Litmus paper is a dull purple colour, but turns bright red in acid or deep blue in alkali. The really multicoloured stuff is called universal indicator paper or pH paper. Anyway, not very scientific if they just display numbers but no units - inches, degrees C, etc. Totally pointless 'installation' and a serious distraction for drivers.
I think the tide rise and fall is the average in the table but the tower may be showing the actual rise allowing for weather and spring tides and where the measurements are taken maybe?
Obligatory government art installation. Nice video presentation, and I like this art just fine. Should be finished with the side panels though. I really appreciate the ambient sound throughout, and the subtitles are well done too. Here in the US a small percentage of the cost of a new government building must go toward public art. Most of which is gaudy, overthought, clashing. This is ok though. Thanks.
Wonder how much they cost the local taxpayers Bet most don’t have a clue what each tower is reading plus there complete waste of time during daytime as you can’t see the numbers
Looks like a huge waste of money and a traffic hazard. Last thing a driver needs to do in heavy traffic is have some gigantic six digit number stuck in your face with absolutely no clue as to what it means.
I've seen these when I'm driving along the A13 and often wondered what they were. Thanks !

Very random but I liked the quiet easy going video and the stable camera :) very relaxing video.
Cool! I've seen these before but had no idea what they meant. Be careful walking in the road morthren
Thanks

Ah, the 174 bus to Harold Hill. Used to live there nearly 30 years ago.

My thought exactly! Most wind turbines are 2 - 3 megawatts but if these numbers are correct, it must be the output of a wind farm.

thanks for this video... I've passed them loads of times and wondered what the numbers meant... but still agree with people they are a waste of money
Interesting concepts but ultimately just an overpriced art installation that not only seems inaccurate, but can only be view in darkness. 👍👍
Andrew Hallett-Patterson they show up just fine in daylight as well 😃
Interesting video
Very interesting
It seemed to be changing every time a car goes around
1:23 I think this one got distracted and is now counting passing traffic.
Very interesting...Date and time would be preferable.
description says "Megawatts" but the video says "Kilowatts".... which is the correct one?
It's displayed in Kilowatts. Thanks for that, I've corrected it
@@morthren ok thats good.
distracted drivers are dangerous... here, have a look at these random numbers.
They look like a complete waste of public money - how much do they cost?
I agree with M P and those driving past wouldn't have a clue what the numbers even ment then have an accident staring at them.

The A13 already has an overabundance of confusing signs, but these things are ridiculous. Just 4 more distractions at high risk locations.
Of course it's top of the list of every driver to know that all important tidal figure in tilbury dock.

£13,000 was allocated towards them for 2018. I'm not sure how much they cost initially but they have been in place since 2005.
A rather pointless set of flashing numbers.
