Seeing family photos at antique stores makes me so sad 😢 it reminds me of the movie Coco and I worry that all the people in those pictures are forgotten
I’ve been buying and selling antiques for lots of years now and can tell you that haggling is expected. The price is set in such a way that the seller expects you the buyer will offer half of that. Then a common thing for seller to come back and say is - I’ll meet you in the middle. So for example, if the seller prices something at $60 you, the buyer would then offer $30 and the seller would meet you in the middle at $45. The seller is actually getting the price they wanted and feel is fair and the buyer feels like they’re getting a deal. Everyone walks away happy 😊
Thank you for explaining that to someone who has never dared to haggle for probably the same reasons Rachel doesn't do it, too. It's good learning things from someone who explains stuff without being condescending, just frank and clear and in enough detail.
I'm a volunteer at an old manor house and my favourite piece of furniture is the library desk that opens up and folds into a set of steps to reach the top shelf. It is breathtaking and so magicall! So i understand your giddiness haha. It is a very specific type of excitement.
Oh, as soon as that last piece turned up, I squealed “a mink’s bench!” I love Monk’s benches. We actually have one ourselves that’s been handed down through the family. Such a versatile piece of furniture. Also, the one you got is pretty rare, they don’t often have engraving on the underside of the table/back of the bench.

I had completely forgotten about those paper dolls! My grandma had them at her house along with the ones she made as a little girl and we'd play with them whenever she was watching me. Looking back, it's probably where my love of the Victorian and Edwardian fashion stemmed from. What a treasure to be reminded of such a sweet memory with my grandma.

I wanted to forever tell you this you so much ! You always reminded me of Anne Shirley.. I have quite a history with Anne of Green Gables as I’m originally from Prince Edward Island ,Canada the home of Lucy Maude Montgomery…. Xoxo. In my younger life i worked for a company that painted ceramic figures that looks like parts and pieces of the book …like when Anne was picked up at the railway station and on the trip home with Matthew. You look amazing and she’s one of my favourite characters ever ❤
When Rachel came out with the Gunne Sax dress I made this "aaurgh" sound because it looked so much like Anne!!! and the she made THE EXACT SAME SOUND!! Day: made.
I went antique shopping for my birthday and came away with a vintage table. It, too, is convertible in that the glass top is actually a tray. I totally get the thrill of finding unique, older pieces. I might have two, vintage microscopes as well several antique art pieces. They bring me so much joy. ❤
oh, I used to love paper dolls as a kid! I had some really cool "history of barbie" books that referenced paper dolls as being kind of the only option for little girls to play with fashion before barbie, and that made me FASCINATED with the concept of paper dolls.
I have needed a haul of some sort for a long time. I have been missing ye old roots - character outfit creations, thrift haul and over hauls, and closet clean-outs 😍
That chest of drawers with compartments… ❤ like walking into The Container Store… stuff like that makes me think of being 8 at the farm and going through my grandmother’s sewing box which was a collection of drawers set into the wall that my grandfather built and was full of all the things an 8 year old would find fascinating and inspirational. Love it. ❤ That table/bench/chest from the end of the video, we had one of those! It was made in the 80s and very plain, but it was at the door and we’d use it daily, and for holidays and dinners, it was the “kids’ table”. Haha all the things that are old and new again! Love it.
Omg, my grandma had a bench-table like that!! I’ve never seen another one before! Hers is a little bigger and came with side tables that can be used as stools for when you convert it into a table. Though the carving and decoration on yours is much more elaborate. But still. Now I must pick up my jaw from the floor…
I applaud you and Nick for getting anything off by haggling at Brimfield. The dealers there are notorious for being tough negotiators. At least they have been for me every time I have been.
I live in a Victorian terrace house just outside London. The only new items are the kitchen floor tiles abd the mattress on our bed. Everything else is 2nd hand. Like you, I love big lumps of wooden furniture, which suits the house well. I love the monk's bench, I have one myself. £20 from FB market place; no haggling required 😂

That Belle doll thing you have is like the ones my my mum used to get me when I was younger ( in the 80’s). Victorian dolls I think they were and they had tons of different outfits and backdrops to put them in different scenes
I used to hate the idea of wrecking books til I have seen so so many librarians talking about it being okay due to the sheer volume of printed material in the world + it means that the book gets new life rather than rotting on a shelf
I only mind when people repurpose hard to find first editions of popular books. Especially to make proposal boxes. Is it very sweet and adorable and a keepsake? Yes. Does it hurt my soul a little? Also yes. 😅 I had such trouble finding the first editions of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings because lots of people (especially on Etsy) bought them up to turn into proposal boxes or little book boxes, whereas I really do want those to read and collect/preserve. But the older books with pretty covers that no one is reading? I agree with the librarians when it comes to those! It’s nice to see them getting a new life.
Those spats might not fit but I can recommend making some as a quick project! And you can use those antique ones as a pattern template! I do love the looks of spats.
I loved paper dolls growing up! My sisters and I played with them a lot. They were our toy of choice when we were able to get something from my grandfather’s pharmacy+general store that he owned.
Oh I believe the incredible things you can find thrifting. I work at a very large thrift store and so many cool doodads show up. Just today we had two antique irons come through processing. Last week there was an antique chamberpot. It's a very fascinating job to have. I love those wooden spools.
Thank you for taking us with you on your adventure Rachel! I will admit that these are amoung my favourite type of video. Where we sit, chat and explore together. You feel free to do videos like this as much as you'd like 😉
My diningroom table is like that table you bought, but bigger and not carved. My dad made it for my maternal grandmother to fit into her skinny apartment dinigroom. The removable wood pins that secure the top are loose and fall out, but I love it and store craftsy stuff in it. He made it in the 90s.
I love the brown dress with the white poof sleeves!!! And the Green dress! Giving Anne of green gables and we are here for it! we are also very jealous of your transforming furniture piece!
The way my jaw DROPPED when I saw that genuine GS 70s dress!! OMG All of this haul was awesome, but that. Incredible! Also, I love how you perfectly match the lounge and surroundings there at the end 😁
Unless the seller handcrafted the item, most sellers won't bat an eye at haggling. In many cases, it's expected and the seller will price a little high to allow for an acceptable profit at less than the asking price.
@elenachristian9860 Think of it this way, you're complimenting the seller by wanting the item so much that you're willing to try to get it even if it's out of your price range. Maybe they want the personal interaction, and you're going to be generous and give them that interaction. 😉 Sometimes reframing an experience can reshape your emotional response. It took me years to get over public speaking until I realized that, in real life, if I spoke to a group of people, it's because they wanted to hear what I was saying. No one was holding them hostage to listen. My anxiety quickly dissipated after that epiphany. Anxiety sucks.
@@titian-red This actually just altered my brain chemistry, because that is such a good way to look at it! I'm also a highly anxious person, so that is such a refreshing perspective to hear!
I used to be obsessed with paper dressing dolls when I was little, I used to take them everywhere with me and call them my friends 😭 that little lady brought back some memories!
You can probably add a panel to the spats to make them fit. As for the record player holder? One word - Victrola. I always wanted one. Don't care if it works. it looks amazing. Some of the antique stores in my area had several, and not for a lot of money, esp. if they didn't work. Thank YOU Rachel Houdini!
I had those paper dolls as a kid! There was a whole fairytale and historical range of them, each more beautiful than the last. Thanks for the memories of those dolls!
Maybe it was already revealed what the next home renovation project is going to be, but I do wonder if it perhaps is going to be a sewing room? 🤔 Because the letterpress drawers to store sewing supplies would fit that theme and also in the previous video it was said that it would be one of the last times we would see Rachel as a floor troll. 🕵️
My prom dress was a Gunne Sax!!!! I loved it! Also had a off white-off double layered skirt with swiss dots, satin ribbon and lace. Love your new find!
I loved the haul!! And the fact that you tried stuff, including the magic!! About for the brown dress, maybe a belt can help styling it, and you don't need to do any adjustments
The brown 60s dress is so so cute! I think it could be clever to cut up the bolero and make a little sash to attach to the sides so it can be tied in the back like an apron! It will make it more flexible in case your size ever changes or you just eat a big burrito. God they're good.
I jave been here for years and often miss your old style videos (totally love your new ones too) so this 🧡 made me so happy. Im here for YOU honestly don't care about what the video is about, they all make me happy!
I bought a Columbia Grafonola (gramophone/record player) yesterday while antique shopping and I am still absolutely giddy about it. Honestly, Rachel's house is exactly the aesthetic I want to have.

Oh my gosh, that’s really interesting that you say that that’s pretty cool. I didn’t know that about the uppercase and lowercase letters.

For the brown dress, you could sew a ribbon on each side seam then tie at the back in a bow - cute and easy to reverse
Those spats might not fit but I can recommend making some as a quick project! And you can use those antique ones as a pattern template! I do love the looks of spats.
I loved paper dolls growing up! My sisters and I played with them a lot. They were our toy of choice when we were able to get something from my grandfather’s pharmacy+general store that he owned.
i spent the whole video SCREAMING at the screen ...cheering you on , being jelly, applauding the creatures ...this was so damn rad!!!
You feel free to do videos like this as much as you'd like 😉
Bro the Anne Shirley dress made my heart explode you are perfect in it 🎀❤️🌸
My diningroom table is like that table you bought, but bigger and not carved. My dad made it for my maternal grandmother to fit into her skinny apartment dinigroom. The removable wood pins that secure the top are loose and fall out, but I love it and store craftsy stuff in it. He made it in the 90s.
I live in Brimfield. Been here nearly 30 years. Welcome ❤😊
I love the brown dress with the white poof sleeves!!! And the Green dress! Giving Anne of green gables and we are here for it! we are also very jealous of your transforming furniture piece!
The way my jaw DROPPED when I saw that genuine GS 70s dress!! OMG
All of this haul was awesome, but that. Incredible!
Also, I love how you perfectly match the lounge and surroundings there at the end 😁
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who physically cannot handle haggling. I can NOT be the reason someone is potentially upset or insulted 😂
Haggling is the worst. Just take my money!!!
Unless the seller handcrafted the item, most sellers won't bat an eye at haggling. In many cases, it's expected and the seller will price a little high to allow for an acceptable profit at less than the asking price.
@@titian-redWe know this. It changes nothing.
I use my letterpress drawer to house all my crystals! I ...may need to get a new one to fit them all though 😂.
Oh man, I wish I’d kept all my Gunne Sax dresses from the 70’s. I wore them all the time until they went out of style. And now folks want them lol.
I had those paper dolls as a kid! There was a whole fairytale and historical range of them, each more beautiful than the last. Thanks for the memories of those dolls!
I usually discover Rachel's videos on my Saturday morning, as it is 11pm in France right now, but fortunately I'm able to be early today !!
Pareil pour moi 😂
Presque pareil pour moi mais en Écosse :D
@@juliebernabe9804 vraiment mon bonbon du samedi matin ces vidéos
Same here in South Africa 😊
The transition of you in front of tree at the flea market to you in front of tree mural at your house is chefs kiss 🤌🏻
I think for the Brown dress, you would only need to add some straps a tiene them at the back. You trurn the bolero into a vest maybe.
That antique metamorphic bench is fabulous!! This whole video was a delight (as always). Thank you for sharing!
Oh my god the Anne of green gables outfit!!! I’m obsessed
Good catch!
Anne Shirley for the win 🏆, congratulations Rachel 👌😊👌
My prom dress was a Gunne Sax!!!! I loved it! Also had a off white-off double layered skirt with swiss dots, satin ribbon and lace. Love your new find!
I think "mutton chop" refers to the wide sideburns that were popular on men in the 1970s. The sleeve is usually called "leg o' mutton."
You are correct
Wow! That gunny sack dress and the conversion bench table is incredible ❤.
Great finds Rachel
The Anne Shirley dress is perfection! ❤
You need to do an Anne photo shoot!
11:09 Rachel, a magic cosplay fairy illusionist, does literally the most perfect Anne Shirley cosplay with her normal, unedited features and clothes.
Was NOT expecting the Anne Shirley-core and it has ELEVATED my day to see it 🥕❤
That Gunne Sax dress was destined to find its way to you! It looks amazing and who doesn't want to live out their Anne of Green Gables dreams?
I loved the haul!! And the fact that you tried stuff, including the magic!!
About for the brown dress, maybe a belt can help styling it, and you don't need to do any adjustments
The brown 60s dress is so so cute! I think it could be clever to cut up the bolero and make a little sash to attach to the sides so it can be tied in the back like an apron! It will make it more flexible in case your size ever changes or you just eat a big burrito. God they're good.
That Gunney Sax dress is the stuff dreams are made of 🥺😍😍❤️😭😭
“I guess I should probably take it off now” *unenthusiastically kicks ground* I don’t know why, but that made me cackle 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I jave been here for years and often miss your old style videos (totally love your new ones too) so this 🧡 made me so happy. Im here for YOU honestly don't care about what the video is about, they all make me happy!
As soon as you held it up I yelled "PUFFED SLEEVES!!!!" I'd never forgive you if you hadn't purchased it!!!
As someone who is going to inherit an inordinate amount of antique furniture, I’m glad to see people get joy out of it.
Héc yes. A Rachel video just in time for doodle time. ✨❤️
Anne Shirley!!!!❤❤ YAAASSSS!!
THE POTATOES SHIRT ON SPONSOR RACHEL! IT IS GIVING!
And another with molasses!😊
Ok, I LOVED this video! It was such a throw back to the old days and I loved the change of pace! 😊
I NEEDED THIS. Summer is killing me and I’m gonna stay inside turn up the fan all the way and watch this.
my ✨aesthetic✨ would NOT be further from yours, but I still watch your videos religiously from beginning to end. It is comforting somehow.
Okay but now you NEED to recreate one of the paper doll dresses!!!
Oh goodness! What a great day of shopping! However, the convertible seat/table is magnificent!
The bench table is a true treasure!
It’s called a monk’s bench. And the one she got is pretty rare, they don’t usually have as much engraving as that
I had been told that mine was called a Parsons table.🤷
I bought a Columbia Grafonola (gramophone/record player) yesterday while antique shopping and I am still absolutely giddy about it. Honestly, Rachel's house is exactly the aesthetic I want to have.
YESSSSSS OLD STUFF 💚💚💚
