  • Watch me restore and give new life to this old solid oak Library Table. (Not so) Easy furniture flip or DIY project. Trash to treasure. The difference on this project is amazing. I removed the paint to reveal the Oak Grain, stained with a Dark Walnut Stain and Sealed with Lacquer.

    WOW!!! Just LOVELY!!!! I especially APPRECIATE how you save the Hardware. Many will just buy New Hardware that isn't nearly as pretty. Oh, Merry Christmas to you and yours!!!!

    I would never have imagined that table was old either with it being painted. But you turned that tiger oak table into a gorgeous piece.

    Looks spectacular! I know at one time it was so popular to paint over wood, but now it’s so great to see things getting restored to their natural beauty!😊😊

    And there she sits in all her beauty. My soul was happy when you said you were going to restore it, and it's glorious. Green paint seems to be one of the hardest to completely remove. I'm currently restoring a 1928 dresser and vanity table. Underneath 5 different color latex (2 different greens included) and heavy coats of oil and shellac, I unearthed beautiful quarter sawn white oak in almost pristine condition. I appreciate greatly your labor of restoration. I'll take old over new every day of the week. Fantastic work! 🎉 11:06

      @@Randyshufflesfurniture I have a technical question for you. How many coats of varnish do you usually lay down? And I am not speaking of the spray-on type but of the brush-on version. Thank you! 🤗🙏🏼

    • @Randyshufflesfurniture
      @Randyshufflesfurniture  8 месяцев назад +1

      As a general rule I usually do 3 coats of polyurethane. You can get away with 2 on areas that don’t get as much use, but definitely 3 on the tops and drawers. Hope this helps. Thanks. My go to poly is Behr water-based in a Satin finish.

    What a gorgeous table! While I d encourage people to use their imaginations and express themselves with color and art on painted furniture, I NEVER suggest painting something of antique integrity and value like this table. An ideal painted furniture project would be on something obtained from Goodwill or some other thrift store, that has no real value, but the life of which can be extended with a little whimsy. Pieces of that old off-white French Provincial furniture offer a great place to start. Time isn't generally kind to the original finish on those pieces, and they often make it to the thrift store looking sad and bedraggled, having yellowed where they were exposed to light, but having lighter patches where the light never reached. There's plenty of detail to highlight, flat surfaces that beg to be decoupaged, and a whole world of color and faux finishing open to them. But please, people, do not paint good wood like oak. By all means save it with a good rebuild and refinishing job, but save the creative art projects for something that nobody else wants. You'll be not only keeping the piece you do pant out of the landfill,b ut will be saving a truly good piece from the ravages of chalk paint.

      Don't be judgmental. Furniture can be very expensive and sometimes we have to use what its available and affordable. You might not like painted wood but for someone without training, tools or not much space paint may be the only option. Maybe previous owners made it look ugly just to give you something to sneer at.

    Единственное, что мне не понравилось, так это новая фурнитура. Старая непарная ручка была как раз подходящей формы. Новые - слишком вычурные и им надо было оставить хоть немного благородной патины, не очищая до такого слишком нового вида.

      The new hardware was the same size, so easily changed if the new owner chooses. Thanks for the comments and for watching.

    However decided to paint that beautiful piece of wood furniture made of solid oak no less and that horrible green colour in my opinion should be arrested for trying to destroy a beautiful piece of furniture people back in the day had no idea in artefacts some people these days will probably think that horrible green was very fashionable I'm glad you decided to restore it to its former glory instead of painting it another horrible colour beautiful workmanship
