Born to play guitar and was fortunate enough to discover that early enough to capitalize on it. Some people just have the nervous system that allows them to excel rapidly at playing the scales used in most rock music. I have seen people that were committed to learning to play guitar from a relative early age and put in the time to consistently practice and after not being where they thought they should be after a couple or 3 years start trying different techniques to improve dexterity but seem to plateau and then I have seen others that pick up a guitar in their late teens and in almost no time have reached a level that the kid that started at 12 and has played and practiced religiously has not come close to by their late teens. There is nothing more discouraging than for a person that has put in the time to see someone pick up what they have worked so hard to achieve and make them look like an amateur after only playing a year or two but that is the way it goes. People that pick it up really fast are pretty rare and anyone can become pretty good if they work hard enough and they might bring more creativity to playing than the guy that has the flashy chops.
Thousands Thank'S for share, man!!! Rare shot, never saw this before. IMHO the best Zakk period, just left off from Ozzy, before recording iconic Pride&Glory masterpiece. His way of searching his own style. RAW ROOTS!!!!
One more notice: he was played onto Peavey amp, not Marshall, and sounds not like Peavey, but like Himself. One more proof that's most of sound comes from hands and balls, but not from the gear.
He did. It was a one of concert at the Nokia center in Los Angeles in early 2013. There is a DVD marketed as unblackened. It was truly epic. I was there.
I woke up to this vid today . Didn’t even have my morning Coffee yet and the Sun is barely up . Great way to start the day ! This was pure awesomeness 🤠 And I just subscribed. Thus brings back memories.
All I can say is New Jersey bred some of the best musicians the world has ever seen! Zakk is no exception. He is a phenomenal player and has a heart bigger than youtube!
One of this man’s most overlooked talents is the chicken pickin. It’s really interesting that he adopted this style as a part of his rock playing. I’ve seen some killer country pickers and Zakk could probably hold his own in that circle.
I saw that tour as well! Outdoor show that was incredible. 1994 was a great time at Ozark Mountain Amplitheater at Lampe, Missouri by Branson. I'll never forget it and think about it often. Alice in Chains opened the show. Times were good!
What great variety of playing and performance he showcases here, great footage. I’ve seen him live with Ozzy and Black label several times, and this year I saw him with Pantera, and he did justice to their music. 🤘🏻
Randy. Eddie, Jimi, Gibbons, Blackmore, Vai, Knopfler, Page, Gilmour, May, Holdsworth, Marty Friedman... Not sure where you put Zakk, but he doesnt cut the line on that list. To me greatness is more than technical ability because there are 1,000s of unknowns who can play anything ever written. The greats create and, he is a smokin player but the third best Ozzy guitarist behind Jake E Lee on that level.
I was there! A buddy of mine (Eric Staib) was playing drums, so I got to sit behind the kit and watch Zak up close doing his thing - great memories from this show!
Are we watching and listening to the same thing? It's filled with lots of pinch harmonics and wah pedal usage. But hell give him a pass cause it sounds great and he's letting loose and I'm surprised the bandmates held it all together pretty good.
This is why I missed the 80s & 90s. Those were best years of my life. I to were in a band, Drummer. Now at 57 I still feel young at heart. By the time 80s hit 90s I been at a lot of concerts and do you remember where to get concert tickets from? ..lol here in Ohio sears was place to get them, inside sears was " Ticket Tron" and you don't see them today but concert jerseys was made with half arm sleeves..lol my step dad popped my music cherry 🍒 to Kiss, then Queen, Nazareth, Nugent, lot others. He had this long ass blacklight I remembered it like it were yesterday lol.. Pepsi was glass bottles and it was green like slime when it first came out. Also cosmic candy now days called pop rocks..lol I was 8 when kiss came out and from there, well if your old as me then you knew it as I do..lol still to this day I'm a die hard KISS fan and also I remember one day he called me in the house and watched ELO concert on tv..lol it was a spaceship and top half raised up revealing the entire band and orchestra..lol then next day came out with album thats got that giant on cover..and yes I missed my 8-track player..lol hell I can go on an on but..thanks for memory from pass of 80s&90s

Yeah, he was something back then for sure. I remember just how unique he sounded when we first heard him on the new Ozzy album, no rest for the wicked. Actually, I think I saw the crazy babies video or heard the song on the radio prior to the album's release and even though that song doesn't have a very long solo, you could tell from just how he was playing the riff in the beginning and by his tone that he was bringing something new to the guitar world, which was pretty active in late '88. I saw him a little later, on the end of the tour for that album in the summer of '89 or '90 at the Orange County Fair in Middletown, NY and my mouth must have been hanging open the whole time.
91 was a great year in metal 💯🤘... Also when zakk wasn't playing like a harmonic madman like now... But a very good video and I wonder what he would think about seeing this 🤔😁

He seamed to be attached to that guitar then but that could have changed. He was a major southern rock fan then. He would sometimes sit in with Lynyrd Skynyrd between shows with Ozzy
To put in perspective, zakk was just finished no more tears album with ozzy here in summer 91, in September it was released to make him a global star, he was known to ozzy fans but not as a stand alone until after no more tears made him a super star. This is a great time capture, on the cusp of being considered one of the worlds best players by 24 years old, and smash hits from no more tears propelled him to guitar god status
I’m thinking this might be 87 or so. Makes no sense that Ozzy’s guitar player with two albums and one tour under his belt would be playing in a tent at some carnival. Curious
If my memory is correct, a guitar manufacturer was doing something and the music/guitar store downtown Adrian just happened to be one of those stores where it happened. I heard about it the day of. Didn't even know who Zakk Wylde was 🤓
They called these “clinics.” I went to one and paid 8 bucks or so, which was an entry for a drawing for a Les Paul, or you could use it as store credit that day. I was at the counter and Zakk came up to sign autographs, so I asked him to pick out a bottleneck slide for me, and he obliged. Cool dude.
How awesome it must have been for Zakk to get to play with that bassist: Brick Layer; Fish Filleter, Bill Payer, Dragon Slayer, a virtual musical conveyor, bass player, Mr. Ross Thayer. #respect
What’s amazing is that he was that good when he was that young . I’ve seen Zack three times ,once with Ozzy and twice alone . Obviously incredible but I guess I couldn’t conceptualize how LONG he’s been that good . Other than refinements via road experience,Ozzy etc. he was almost as good in 1991its just crazy . I love Zack’s way of playing and appreciate him as a fellow musician because he is a purist , which is a dying commodity today in music .No bullshit he played music from his roots and recognized. I met him at a Black Label Society meet and greet and he signed my BLS shirt . Just as cool in person good family man
This is my favorite performance by him. He usually is just playing so many little noises and harmonics in between everything that it loses my interest. He’s actually playing here. What a treat. Of course you always have your guys like dude in the white shirt that just stands there with his arms crossed at about 1:18. I hate those guys
For those who love his solos one of his best live solos of all time is in the song shot in the dark live in Russia - video can be easily found on you tube. Melodic and just the right amount of punch harmonics

I like Zakk Wylde but truthfully I prefer Frank Marino I saw Frank Marino and 1988 and he was absolutely brilliant it was at the Ritz in Detroit which is fairly small . He started off with the answer just like the live album in 78 or whenever it was he was awesome. .... I kind of prefer most the original awesome classic guitar players there were a few that came through in the 80s like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Randy Rhoads ... Yngwie Malmsteen ..and then later on Dimebag Darryl ... A guy named Audley Freed for Cry Of Love was pretty awesome ..... I'm kind of stuck in the original players of hard rock like Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck and Ritchie Blackmore and people like Steve Howe and Brian May and David Gilmour and Frank Marino .. I love Eddie Van Halen he might make my top 10 list at the bottom even though technically he might have been a quicker guitar players on some of them most of my favorite guitar players have a certain amount of Blues. I've seen most of my favorite guitar players from Jimmy Page to Jeff Beck to Ritchie Blackmore to Frank Marino ..Steve Howe.. Stevie Ray Vaughan.. Johnny Winter ..Rory Gallagher.. Brian May..... Alvin Lee.. Robin Trower... David Gilmour.. Pete Townsend ..Tony Iommi . Keith Richards .. Steve Marriott.. Phil lynott Gary Moore and Scott Gorham.. Buck Dharma.. Ted nugent... Alex lifeson ...Pat Travers... Rickey medlocke . Billy Gibbons.. Dickey Betts and Dan Toler.. Carlos Santana .. Eddie Van Halen .. Vivian Campbell... Jake E Lee.. Stevie Ray Vaughan.... Michael Schenker... George Lynch.... Yngwie Malmsteen... Stanley Jordan... BB King... Paul McCartney ... I've seen a lot of the great bands that had two guitar players like Lynyrd Skynyrd had three, I saw them in 1976 with Steve Gaines Allen Collins and Gary rossington , then I saw Outlaws, Aerosmith, Foghat, April Wine, Kansas, Humble Pie , AC-DC. .. Rolling Stones... Molly Hatchet... 38 Special.. Point Blank... Iron Maiden.. Styx.. Night Ranger ... Whitesnake with Adrian Vandenberg and Vivian Campbell... .. Scorpions... Tesla.. Metallica... Guns N Roses with Slash... Boston ... Steve Vai... Mark Farner .. I have seen a whole lot of great bands it is kind of hard to say who was the boss I didn't even list quite a few on there , Soundgarden , Montrose , Bob Seger,, Travis Meeks was awesome... Chris Cornell is actually an awesome guitar player I seen him 6 times total between Soundgarden Audioslave and uphoria morning tour. Myles Kennedy and Alter Bridge ... Edgar Winter.. Sammy Hagar.. Black Crowes... Tool .. Godsmack... Primus.. Buckethead.. The guess who with Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings.. Velvet Revolver.. Stanley Clarke on Bass... Those are the bands who I've seen plus more .. I've seen some of the best musicians ever for sure..
Wow never seen him this young really cool
No doubt, agree 100%, social media has rotted ppls brains!
oh yeh Gen Z is called the idiot generation for a reason.
This was pure awesomeness 🤠
And I just subscribed.

Wow! This would be after he joined Ozzy too. This is huge. Thanks for sharing.

All I can say is New Jersey bred some of the best musicians the world has ever seen! Zakk is no exception. He is a phenomenal player and has a heart bigger than youtube!
Offer you not referring to bon jovi because they suck l o l
Cough Michigan Cough
Bon Jovi, Bruce, Smithereens, Glenn Danzig, Zakk, all from the great Garden State.
The Saddam reference made me laugh out loud! This video truly is a time capsule!
Zakk was a super star long before he became an official star. He was out their killing the scene. Shredding it up. Pretty cool shit.
I play a lot of extreme metal but enjoy this stuff as well. Zakk is great.
AWSOME - I REMEMBER Garage Bands & Parties !!!!! Zack is Even MORE Awsome NOW !!!!!! GOAT !!!!!!!
thanks for upload. i haven't seen this before!!!
One of this man’s most overlooked talents is the chicken pickin. It’s really interesting that he adopted this style as a part of his rock playing. I’ve seen some killer country pickers and Zakk could probably hold his own in that circle.
I totally agree! I’ve playing in alt/country/rock bands since 2010 and I “borrowed” a handful of Zakk’s country flavored licks that I use to this day.
Yep, and John 5 is another underrated chicken-picker!
@@UR2Compliant, John 5 is one hell of a monster guitarist/musician. 💯💥

Saw the no more tears tour I can't believe he was still quite young he stood up there and barely looked down at his quitar for 2 hrs 🤟🤟🤟🤟

One of those guys born to play a guitar.
I've seen Zach many times since this in my opinion he belongs in the top 10 greatest guitarists of all time
Top 5 All Time, all day long.
He definitely knew what he was doing back then. Hitting those target notes to let the listener know the chord has changed in the progression.
Still does.
I was there! A buddy of mine (Eric Staib) was playing drums, so I got to sit behind the kit and watch Zak up close doing his thing - great memories from this show!
Oh God, I'd die to have the opportunity to see Zakk on his prime...
Zack is ripping here shredding without the constant use of pinch harmonics or Wah soloing!
This is gold --- THANKYOU '91 taper !! 💥🌟💥
Are we watching and listening to the same thing? It's filled with lots of pinch harmonics and wah pedal usage. But hell give him a pass cause it sounds great and he's letting loose and I'm surprised the bandmates held it all together pretty good.
Maybe you just actually listened this time. Same ol zakk fuckin ripps
i know that im 2 years late, but man i dont think you play the guitar, u really cant listen to the wah wah or the pinch harmonics?

Kidding me? It's a pinch fest
It’s like the audience just isn’t comprehending what’s happening here.. at first. This was amazing.
Thanks, always wondered if anyone had recorded this.

Insanity he’s one of the greatest, I love zakky better in that era 90’s , nowadays he’s too over the top but definitely one of the greatest I saw him alive at Enmore Theatres Sydney back in 2006 I think he’s brutal and awesomest pianist he played heaps of classic ballads with the most beautiful voice man I was so impressed blown my mind 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼🇦🇺
I would only hope that all the “experts” that crap on Zakk all the time get over here to see this. This is flat out SRV level in terms of a guitarist killing it AND being a frontman.
I think Zakk is more of a hendrix fan though than srv since voodoochild is a hendrix song to begin with.
@@JamesRobert-p7iI said hendrix before he even started playing that. I could see why people who listen to metal don't listen to hendrix. Cause I'm one of them. It's not he sucks. It's just hippy music sucks 🤣👍. I would be trying to start a mosh here an grandma Karen's would be running to a payphone to dial 911
@@ShawnJonesHellion Im sure Zakk would have a different answer about hendrix and Im pretty sure he was probably influenced by hendrix I know personally plenty of metal players who listen to hendrix your one of a few that dont.
He is a rock stud. Period. In the tradition of Uncle Ted.
Ted nugent was always a awsome guitar player but this guy was a step above . I'd put him in the realm of Jeff Healey, Stevie Ray Vaughn

No celphones, people just capturating the moment and being present...
Yeah because camera phones wouldn't become popular in the states for another decade. If they existed everywhere in '91, everyone would be filming.
Someone is there with a shoulder mount camera though lol!
Why does everyone make such a big deal abott it that lel
Good thing somebody had a camera or you wouldn't be able to make your comment on your cellphone about how people aren't on their cameras on their cell phones.

Check out the bell bottom jeans 😄😅😎 !!! I used to wear bell bottoms when I was way younger 😂, looks like Zak brought em back in style 😅🤪😎 !! Absolutely love it 😎😅 !!!
Zakk has always one of the fiercest guitar players of all time. Plays as many notes as ynngvie, but with 100 times more soul
No rest for the wicked don't give much credit anymore but I love that album
His slowest solo section still has 4 notes per second. But it's still so soulful. Love this Zakk era. You can hear the ABB influence.
what is ABB? :)

@@kennethjohnson6223 i met him numerous times in 1994. Along with Mike Inez, Randy Castillio and i believe a key board player named John Sinclair. guitar
He seamed to be attached to that guitar then but that could have changed. He was a major southern rock fan then. He would sometimes sit in with Lynyrd Skynyrd between shows with Ozzy
Zakk still has "The Rebel". Jared James Nichols just visited him and posted a photo with it and the Grail.
I saw his debut with ozzy in1989 on the no rest for the wicked tour. Anyone who attended that tour knew immediately that zakk was a guitar god.
I’m thinking this might be 87 or so. Makes no sense that Ozzy’s guitar player with two albums and one tour under his belt would be playing in a tent at some carnival. Curious
Any true Metal head or Ozzy fan for that knew he was the real deal on NO REST FOR THE WICKED. No More Tears reassured us he was just that.
That plus the fact that, if I'm not mistaken, he didn't drink before meeting Ozzy. It looks like a can of beer what he's drinking on stage.
@@hankgalt I think you're right
WTH is this event? I guess in 91 you could just get a guitar great to perform at your county fair? This is time machine gold.
If my memory is correct, a guitar manufacturer was doing something and the music/guitar store downtown Adrian just happened to be one of those stores where it happened. I heard about it the day of. Didn't even know who Zakk Wylde was 🤓
@@WilliamMcNett the music store owner paid for this appearance. Pretty cool to have Zakk playing in Adrian!
Cool dude.
Isn't it awesome? Zakk freaking Wylde deciding willy-nilly to have a public jam session in your town?

Just as cool in person good family man
I've got to meet him before I die!!! It's on my bucket-list!!!

Hermano, simplemente gracias🙌🏾, no había disfrutado tanto desde que vi mi primer concierto 🖤🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
This is my favorite performance by him. He usually is just playing so many little noises and harmonics in between everything that it loses my interest. He’s actually playing here. What a treat. Of course you always have your guys like dude in the white shirt that just stands there with his arms crossed at about 1:18. I hate those guys
Man if I was at age at this time especially growing up so close I would most definitely went to this
For those who love his solos one of his best live solos of all time is in the song shot in the dark live in Russia - video can be easily found on you tube. Melodic and just the right amount of punch harmonics

You can really hear the frank Marino influence in his playing and tone
