I have the Pixel 9XL and have had it since last Thursday (about 5 days now). It has simply been awesome! It's been very quick. Hasn't run hot. Has been very good with it's AI features and its standard smartphone features. It has been the most seamless transfer process to date from old Pixel phone to new one I've had. The battery life has been very good as well now as I've gotten almost all of my past services back up and running again on the phone. I really enjoyed the video! Great work!
I was tempted to upgrade from my Pixel 8 Pro, as I have done for the last three years. However, this year, I will hold off until next year's 10 Pro. The 8 Pro has been working well, and I don't see the need to update. Great initial review, Jason.
Fun review. I'm on a 6 Pro now and am thinking about a 9 pro in the near future so this does help. Unrelated topic, your daughter is so grown up. Is that the one you recorded taking their first step on Google Glass or was that the younger sister?
I think you'll enjoy the 9 Pro (I hope to get one myself!) That is my older daughter, just started HS. My younger daughter started 6th grade and she is the one who took her first steps in that Google Glass video. Man I cherish having that video.
Kinda both I guess? I have been in contact with the same people I normally connect with at Google for review units. FWIW I am considered press, not TeamPixel.
It's interesting I'm happy to see Google finally have a phone that's a well received but it's actually the least excited I've been for a generation in a while. Two significant price increases year-over-year it's hard to swallow without a storage bump. People keep citing inflation but inflation is actually been trending downward or at least the trajectory is flattening the cost curve. Price increases often times are just increased profit margins not increased inflation which seems to be an ongoing excuse for price gouging. I'm not saying this is price gouging because these phones are still relatively competitively priced with iPhone and Samsung but not having undercut them anymore loses a strong argument for a pixel over them. Don't get me wrong if you handed me say $1,000 and said you have to spend this on a phone and you can't sell it... I would probably buy a pixel. But in the real world where I'm gauging the value proposition with my real money I'm probably buying a used one. Like a pixel 8 pro on the resale market or I saw pixel 7 pro on woot brand new at the 12-month warranty for 360 bucks. The 512 GB version was an extra 60 which would have been a no-brainer I think there. The AI features do very little to me and a lot of them are going to be blocked behind a $20 a month paywall which is a non-starter as far as I'm concerned. I am not spending $20 a month on Gemini live and all of that crap. And I don't need to terabytes of cloud storage. Even if I did I'm not sure I would go through Google One but I'd have to think about it. So anyway my recommendation to people is to stick with the Pixel 7 pro or 8 pro or six bro for another year if you have it. And if you're looking to buy a phone and value is important to you seriously consider buying an older pixel and save yourself 800 bucks and get yourself 90% of the phone. There are some other compelling options but under 500 bucks. 8a, used Pixel 8, Pixel 7 pro, Motorola think phone, Motorola razor Plus 2024....OnePlus 12R For $700 or even less with discounts you can get the OnePlus 12 which boy that's really undercutting the pixel 9 pro this year in terms of price. And it has a much better chip and way faster charging. I like Pixel cameras better and I certainly like pixel software better but I use third party launchers a lot anyway so I think one plus might be the better value proposition this year
I'm leaving Samsung S24+ and moving over to the Pixel 9 base model. I didn't buy one of the Pro models incase I don't like the Pixel lineup. I'm hoping I do like the Pixel 9 because I want the stock android experience from the horse's mouth so to speak. If I like phone I'll trade it in next year and get the Pixel 10 Pro model..
I prefer the porcelain color of the 8 series. The camera housing is that elegant light champagne. But overall, compared to the 9, the 8 looks a bit dated.
No reviews say anything about this but I'm wondering since the front camera has higher pixel count. Does that mean any improvement on the face id scan or does it not work any better especially in the dark just like the p8p

Heck yes! Thanks for this I'm super excited to get mine.
Right on!
I ordered my Pro Fold! Interesting considering the recent conversation with Shannon....was this unit provided to you as Techsploder, or AF?
Kinda both I guess? I have been in contact with the same people I normally connect with at Google for review units. FWIW I am considered press, not TeamPixel.
A very nice review
Thank you!
Oooh, it's really pretty! 😬 Thanks for sharing, looking forward to the AF discussion!
Super pretty!
Fun segment with getting the AI to guess the phones. Reminded me of having juniors at work 😅
Yeah I thought it did a pretty good job!

I totally get it. $1k is nothing to sneeze at. Thank you for watching and I hope someone comes along with $1k and forces you to buy a new phone! haha
Yay! You pronounced Peony correctly on this video! 😂
Live and learn!! haha
This was helpful thanks, I've got the pro XL on order to upgrade my 7 pro.
I think your gonna love it!
Very good review. But the new weather app has a major flaw.... Where's froggy? They removed the beloved frog 😠
Froggy is all grown up and went off to college.
aw wait, froggy is gone? i did like froggy a lot 😢
@@chrisa4072 Yeah, the unsung hero.
Hi Jason, what is the indentation on the top left edge of the phone? Has HTC one tv remote vibes.
That is the MMwave hardware cover!

Interesting how something can look so good right up until the next thing is shown off and then it all changes!

Oh that's a great question!
Hey you got your own channel?!
Yeah! Happy you found me!
I have a Pixel 8 Pro I already reload them 2 times today what shit is google I hope this new shit will be better
That is frustrating
Is this video recorded in HDR video? It is sooooo dim
I have been trying to get my lighting to the sweet spot. Perhaps I went a little too dark in this one. Lighting is definitely not my strong suit!
@@Techsploder i found out the issue. Apparently new youtube revanced saves brightness swipe gesture settings. Rewatchdd and it's all good 👍
Looks like an Iphone. That may be a good thing.
Looks like... a straight body'd phone. Like an iPhone, or a Samsung, or a.........
