Easier way to keep that taskbar up and keep gesture navigation. Simply pull up the taskbar then hold the divider between your taskbar apps and the search icon. This will prompt a "always allow taskbar" just click it and it will stay at the bottom and keep gesture navigation.
This is a timely and handy guide. I apreciate the consistency, Shane! Now we're waiting on an emulation test 😎. Fingers crossed for 3DS testing, but if it's too tricky, it's all good.
I'm the same and that I want auto rotate on for unfolded and off for folded but for some reason these settings keep reverting on me and turning off for both. It's been pretty annoying.
14:38 but what about it unlocking earlier by just seeing you on the screen? How is that safe? Genuinely wondering as I come from an old Android that had infrared face unlock so it feels kind of weird to downgrade on that 😅
@@shanecraigtechYeah, was hoping there was another way. Changes the form factor, grip, and accessibility zoom. Split screen RuneScape is all I do. Might have to go back to z fold. Weird to not have such basic dual app features on a foldable...
Excellent overview video Shane. This is the first Android phone I have had in almost 15 years (😅). I'm happy I chose the pixel 9 pro fold. I'm starting to believe this is the one of the best mobile devices that has been released in a while, and I feel like Google knows it, hence why they released this around the same time of the iPhone 16. Again great content.
Just switched from SD2. I think some multi-tasking features are missing and want to know if there's already way to do that natively: 1) when there's already app(s) running and I want to open another app in split screen, I can't open it from home launcher easily(like the ways from taskbar, all apps, etc.) 2) For apps in split screen, can't close one of them by swiping up in the switch app view (will close both). 3) can't easily take screenshot for one app in split screen. Btw, I really want to switch back to Microsoft launcher. I can accept the unoptimized home layout for foldable phone, but the blocking issue is it can't open an app in split screen.
Thanks for the review. Nice. I am fear to find how to find an unpaid grammar checker for texting and writing. I miss that in my Z fold 6. Is there any similar thing on the pixel fold?
The taskbar is exactly the same as on your homescreen, unless you don't use the default launcher that is. I found it really weird how I had random pinned apps. If you're also using another launcher, I recommend switching back to stock, removing all apps, then switching launcher again. You'll still have a random app menu but at least no random pinned apps.
Shane need some help, for the life of me i can't figure out how to turn off tablet view in settings and apps like messages and even RUclips? That split view drives me nuts, on samsung folds there is an option under display settings and you can choose tablet or single view but dont see it on the fold 9
Thanks Shane, again very helpful even for someone who has the previous Pixel Fold. The only problem is missing Czech language voice support: it is painful for daily communication and trying to text or call to Czech names, basically it does not understand spoken language. But it is another story, the rest of features work very well 🙂 I miss a bit the floating window from Samsung, it is more elegant solution for opening notification into the app than split screen. But I am really enjoying the device - and your guidance 🙂
Does anyone know if this has a good alternative to Samsung's pop up view? Because I do use that feature very frequently and I am currently deciding whether to get the Fold 6 or the Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Fold being delivered today, upgrade from my Fold4 - i wanted to try something different. I hope we can see a third app on the multi tasking split or a pop out like on the Samsung
Ok. So I just got this phone. I switched from a Galaxy ZFold 5 because the 6 was not enough for me. That being said, I"m already not liking that I dont have some similar features that I now realize I miss LOL. 1st one is Zoom to Fit a youtube video when in full screen mode. You have to instead zoom in manually until it fits it. I liked that samsung, you only had one gesture of zoom in and would auto zoom to fit. The 2nd one is, Samsung had the ability to hide the Task Bar, and this one does too. But when you switch the phone where the crease is horizontal, there is a big black bar that no matter how much you zoom to fit, the black bar is at the bottom as if it was not a screen. Hope that makes sense? Is that fixable? Not matter the orientation with the ZFOLD, the task bar would hide and the content would fill in the full screen. Any ideas?
Hi Shane, great tips, Thanks. Also, I wanted to share this. My Pixel 9 Pro Fold makes a slight creaking noise just after unfolding, it sounds like if sand got in the hinge but I'm sure it's the display. If your room is quiet and you put your ear near the volume buttons you should be able to hear it. I'm wondering if yours or anyone elses may do this too. It worries me as I wouldn't want it to crack open down the road, like your previous folds did. I went to the Google store in Mountain View and looked at all 4 they had on display. They all made this same freaking noise. It still worries me though.
@@shanecraigtech just watched through the end. Wondering whether Gemini Advance would also unlock certain features especially in the assistive call features
I have the z fold 6, but i miss my pixels, so I picked up the fold 9 pro... and this is the conclusion I've come to. You can beat the actual software/features on the Pixel IMHO... HOWEVER, I've noticed that the pixel 9 pro fold is super buggy/slow compared to what seems to be a better/more polished experience with what ZFold 6 brings to the table. I would conclude that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor is much better than Tensor G4. There is a noticeable lag when transitioning from the smaller display to the main display. Sometimes buttons don't work.. and I will say, I am a big fan of the OG three-button navigation paired with Nova launcher, and it seems that the pixel 9 pro fold doesn't like that.... but I am not going to lie, I realllllly hate gesture based navigation. I don't know why it became more popular. I dunno, that's my thoughts. If this software was more polished, snappier, less buggy for my use it'd be the king of phones.
Probably a dumb question, but how do I get my music, podcasts, etc to continue playing in the background when I jump to another app or even press the lock button on the phone? I just switched to the 9 Pro Fold after being an iPhone user for over 10 years. I can be listening to a podcast and press the lock button on the phone and within a short amount of time the audio will stop. Once I reopen the app it continues to play. Thanks for your help.
Unless you have manually disabled the app's ability to play in the background or the app you are using simply doesn't work in the background (true of very few apps these days), this shouldn't be happening. It would be helpful to know which apps you are having this issue with though.
@@shanecraigtech the main one is The Ramsey Network app. It cuts off pretty within a minute or two when I go to another app or lock the phone. Never had an issue with that on my iPhone.

How do you find this phone Shaun? Honestly speaking, I watched this video to see all the new software features and whether an upgrade from my OnePlus Open would be necessary. Honestly speaking, not impressed. The multi-tasking seems lacking to say the least. There is no third app option, not even in floating mode. Furthermore, with the two apps in split screen we don't have the ability to expand one of them right so that it takes up more space? I knew I would miss Open Canvas here but seeing this video tells me it's much worse than that. Will wait for the Open 2 then because I need 3 apps open simultaneously for my daily usage. My usages: 1) I open 3 cab booking apps parallely to check rates and book parallely. 2) I open excel, notes and chrome to do daily note taking. 3) Open stocks app, chrome and RUclips to catchup on latest news of stocks I follow. Honestly speaking for me, even 3 apps sometimes feels like is not enough. So really disappointed that this phone doesn't even support that functionality as a bare minimum.
