One of the things to mention regarding the road to waimea canyon is how bad the roads are after the waimea canyon lookout area. I just went there 3 days ago during a rain and majority of the road after that all the way to the end have severe potholes so I would suggest not having a low clearance vehicle if you do plan on going there. Also avoid the area when its raining since the fog prevents you from seeing most of the canyon. Most of the areas that we managed to get a great views were from the random railings across the road. I would suggest stopping by if you come across guard rails that has a small dirt patch just enough for a few cars.

It drives me nuts when you mis-pronounce Waimea. The "E" in Hawaiian is pronounced long "A". Waimea is pronounced "Why May a".
