    Congrats to your decisions. You have chosen the very best and the most sofisticated LEICA M camera ever made to date.

      Thank you, I really enjoyed that camera while I owned it. I ended up selling it to fund an M246 Monochrom, feels just as good as the MP240. Thanks!

    I totally agree with you that this camera bring more the best out of you coz ita just simoly inspiring to use. I've got the outdated M8 but it still feels news and Im always excited using it despite of its limitations in using it in lowlight, outher than than its an awesome camera to use!

      Indeed. Having the latest tech is nice and all but if the camera doesn’t inspire you to shoot with it, then what’s the point? Thanks for checking out my video.

    I also feel like a lot of cameras these days are the same and it's very boring. Leica is the only camera maker doing anything unique and exclusive. Good video.

      Thanks a lot Alex, big fan of your street photog videos. 100% on that. I've gotten pretty saturated with all of the new cameras, I feel like they are trying to shove down your throat all of these new features and stuff that at the end of the day you don't really need. Anyone can now pick up a new Sony or Canon and automatically become a "photographer" with eye tracking, face tracking and all of these automatic features. I guess I'm just getting old and grumpy, haha. Cheers man.

    Great review. I just put all my Voigtländer and a single Zeiss lens with M-mount on sale, because I bought a brand new Summilux 50/1.4 for my M240 and a second hand Q instead of a 28/1.4 or 2.0 lens only. Now I'm more flexible when shooting. I use my R-lenses on the M240 too, and I'm pleased with the result. Keep on rolling!

      Thanks a lot Paul! Glad you liked the video. I recently purchased my 50mm f/1.4 Summilux as well! Basically my dream lens and works amazingly with the M240. I will do a review once I spend more time shooting with it. You got a sweet setup as well with those two cameras. The Q is super versatile with the built in crop modes too. I made a video about the Q-P as well, not sure if you have seen it. Cheers 🍻

    You can keep your exposure from center if you press halfway and hold the shutter like on any other cameras 👍

    • @90sPunkRockCovers
      @90sPunkRockCovers  3 года назад

      Thanks Damir, I know about the exposure reading, that is not really my issue. I guess what I meant to say is that when recomposing on a rangefinder camera, specially with a fast aperture, it's easier to miss focus than with a AF camera that lets you move your focus point around. With these cameras you are pretty much left with that focus patch to focus with and that's it. I feel like with any little shift in position can affect your picture's sharpness. I hope that made sense.

    Very good review! What I like the most about it is your honesty when you say you can afford Voigtlander's lenses for now because Leica's are too expensive and it will take you a while to get them. I appreciate that because many reviewers usually brag about using only Leica lenses on Leica camera as if lenses of other brands are not worthy of being mounted on a Leica.

    I am also on the M240 system. The M10 is far superior in terms of operational speed and ISO performance, so that is enough reason to go with an M10 if money allows. But I couldn't swing double the price for an M10 when the M240 is also brilliant in it's own right. It's in the "right" price point used now. It is slower processing wise, but it's not an issue if you are methodically making photos instead of rapid fire. I also find value in having the movie mode...fun to capture video with Leica M lenses. The EVF is also brilliant to use...something that I wish was still supported with the M10...another reason I went with the M240, Finally...battery life. The M240 is king. All day shooting on one battery is awesome. The M240 currently remains the most unique and feature-rich M digital due to all these reasons.

    • @90sPunkRockCovers
      @90sPunkRockCovers  3 года назад

      Thanks for the comment. The M240 is indeed a very fine camera. I have not shot with an M10, just handled one at the Leica store and I do like the slimmer body and ergonomic upgrades. If I were in the market for a new M body I would either wait for the M11 or even the M10R. The black paint version that came out a few months ago was drool worthy, but with a very hefty price tag. Cheers 🍻

      Awesome! Glad you enjoyed my video. My Q-P was my "Gateway drug" to the Leica system. I've always been a fan of the brand ever since I picked up my first camera, but always felt they were basically unreachable. Glad I was finally able to get on board with their cameras. Cheers.

    Great video, thank you. Subscribed! Many ppl bash 240, but I actually like the colors and the output sooc. I also have the m9, which produces unique images that are beautiful. But I find myself reaching for the 240 more often. My favorite lens is summilux 50mm 1.4 (my copy is from 1969). But for inside pictures I love the ttartisans 50 0.95. It has drawbacks like everything, but it also turns ordinary scenes and objects into pure magic.

    Thorsten Overgaard said in the end every Leica owner who does not have an M10 will want an M10. So I am saving for one.

    • @90sPunkRockCovers
      @90sPunkRockCovers  2 года назад

      I guess that's true. The M10 is obviously a better camera compared to the M240 but not by far either. If you just want to dip your toes into the digital Leica world then I still think a used M240 is a good starting point. I haven't looked at how much they are selling now, I've stopped buying camera gear but I got this one for a steal so I took a chance. I eventually sold the camera and got myself a M246 Monochrom instead and couldn't be happier now.

      I guess I misspoke when I talked about composition. I wasn't talking about exposing and metering, that is not an issue. What I meant to say is keeping your focus locked. Since you can only focus using the center of the viewfinder with the focus patch, if you don't want your subject in the middle of the frame and chose to recompose after acquiring a sharp focus in the center, I find sometimes that every little movement you do after you dial in your focus can get misaligned and out of focus if you move slightly. Specially when shooting at lower apertures.

  • @al404
    @al404 3 года назад

    I'm also interested in this camera and looking over flickr I noticed that most of the photo has the subject in the center and I guess that the problem could be that recomposing with a fast lens you may miss the focus. Is not possible to use the rear screen and focus peaking in this kind of scenario?

    • @90sPunkRockCovers
      @90sPunkRockCovers  3 года назад +1

      For the most part, yes. I find it a little bit challenging to do the focus and recompose method and acquire pinpoint sharpness on my subject when shooting with a shallow DOF. I have gotten much better at shooting with a rangefinder camera at this point but it still takes some practice and skill to achieve that.
      As far as using the LCD, yes, the camera does have focus peaking which works really well when shooting that way but you still run into the issue of only having the center point to focus and recompose method but it does help a little bit with the peaking.
      It also offers a magnification feature so you can zoom in to your subject, but again, only to the center of the frame and you can't move around the LCD. Despite all of that, I love the M system and truly enjoy using this camera more so than a camera that does everything for me and that even a toddler can use it an achieve a sharp photo.

      There is no way to tell via the camera, I believe the M9/M8 had an image count option in the menu system. Although it might not be 100% accurate, you can look at the digits the camera assigns to the image name to get an approximate number of shots taken.
