I dont know after seeing the foot long scar on his arm last night during an interview (had never seen that), i worry that this may mess up his whole career but yeah its what he wants to do.
I know. But it's still debateable what he can do if he played one way. Be better than Wille Mays as a hitter & runner. Or better than Cy Young & Koufax as a pitcher. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins the Gold Glove if he plays a position.
Remember: Ohtani is a pitcher on rehab from TJ surgery...still earning his money. There are dozens of pitchers who were sitting at home on TJ rehab watching this game on TV. Saw that on another channel.
are we forgetting that ohtani's 2021-2023 is just as historic? the only player to fully compete as a two-way player. nobody has done it either. he's constantly setting the standard.
Ohtani is a top 5 pitcher in the NL. He can realistically win 20 games (15 with the Angels where he lost or had ND in 7 games when he allowed 2 or less runs in 2022), strike out 250, and his offense will "suffer" a bit. Suffering for him is 40 home runs and 25 steals. I think the Dodgers will certainly take these number any season. Crazy to not let him pitch at least a couple of seasons.
Steve Phillips is generally a good baseball analyst, but he's mistaken in arguing for Ohtani just being a hitter. It's very clear that Shohei loves to pitch and loves to combine pitching and hitting, even though the workload is much greater. Further, he had almost comparable numbers last year before being shut down due to the elbow injury--almost the same batting avg and HRs, but without as many stolen bases. He wants to be the best, wants to be the unique two-way elite player, and has shown he's capable of such special achievements. The risk is he might suffer another arm injury, yes, and I worry about that. But I don't consider that the end of his career, so let him do the two-way approach that he loves and stop pushing him to concentrate just on hitting.
Ohtani is the Goat, an Ace pitcher with a career 3.01 ERA and 11.1 Ks (can win 15 games with a 2.33 ERA in a season) and also hit 50 HRs and have 50 stolen bases. Speed Power and an Ace pitcher, even Babe Ruth never did that.
@@teddy-ez5zt excellent point. Also, the year he won 15 games. He had a horrible Angels offense supporting him. There were 7 games that year he lost or had a no decision when he gave up 2, 1, and even 0 runs. Would’ve easily won 20 with an average offense to support him.
It's wrong to just make him a hitter. Beause Shohei can strike out the best player on any team. He proved that in the World Baseball Classic when he struck out Trout who was considered the top hitter on Team USA.
Shohei Ohtani will be the unanimously NL MVP, and it's not even close. There is absolutely no case for Lindor to be MVP, it's stupidity absurd and absurdity stupid. Lindor is batting .271 and has an OPS of .836 when was the last time someone won the MVP with an OPS that low? He is literally tailing The FACE OF BASEBALL in every offensive category, and it's not even close. As of 9-19-2024, Lindor is tailing Ohtani 29 RBI and it might even be wilder by the last game. Mookie Bett missed 3 months and two starting pitchers (Glasnow and Yamamoto) also missed two months, Kershaw was back and then out again. Miller and Buehler can't find the strike zone, and Freeman is there in body but his mind and spirit are with his son, Ohtani pretty much carried the Dodgers, and with some help from Teo, the Dodgers probably wouldn't be winning the division if not for Ohtani's offensive prowess (51 home runs, 123 Run and 120 RBI). The Dodgers without Ohtani would be fighting for a Wild Card spot right now and San Deigo Padres would be winning the division. Ohtani is MORE Valuable to the Dodgers than (or as much) to Lindor's Mets. DH can't win MVP? and yet a few pitchers have won MVP in the past, and none of these guys come close to Ohtani offensive prowess. If pitcher can win MVP so can a DH. This is the media baiting and selling the news. After today and Ohtani 51-51, there is NO CASE for Lindor to be the NL MVP. I would dare say Shohei Ohtani is the Major League MVP. The last pitcher to win the NL MVP was Clayton Kershaw in 2014, and in the American League was Justin Verlander in 2011. Kershaw was 21-3 with an ERA 1.77. Verlander was 24-5 with an ERA 2.40. I am willing to bet Kershaw and J. Verlander never hit a home run or stole a base in their MVP year. While pitchers are mainly a defensive position offensively they don't do much and yet two have won MVP in the last 14 years, so this absurd argument a DH CAN NOT be the MVP is kinda stupid in itself.
I’ve been saying this for a while once he returned to pitching activities, I believe if he’s going to pitch in the playoffs they use him as a relief pitcher no need to rush starting until next season where he’ll be able to rack up innings
@@edwardhernandez8774 well yea he should be but I’m saying in terms of 2024 if for whatever reason they decide to pitch him it should be in a close or relief role

Hyperbole is the order of the day on youtube. The best I've ever seen happens every day. Best offensive season ever? I don't know. Sure it's up there, but over 150+ years you can find other offensive seasons that some might say were the best ever. Let's not forget the past entirely here. Do some comparisons to show Ohtani against others who might make the case.
3:49 Ohtani is and will always want to be known as pitcher, so he will rather not to bat at all if you don't let him pitch. If it is in part of his contract then Dodgers cannot prevent him from pitching if he is healthy enough to do so.
Oh come on, not this crap again. Let him pitch for Christ Sake! The guy is a Pitcher. He might get injured? Yes. But that's what he wants, to be a pitcher and we love to see him pitch. If he makes the decision, that's ok, but don't force it on him you joy killers
He wants to be a pitcher. He wants to be involved in every ball pitched. If possible, he wants to pitch and bat every game. That's how much he enjoys the game...
He is too good of a pitcher to never use him. But he shouldnt start his season as a pitcher until August . His arm could likely handle a 2-3 month season every year counting the playoffs. And the playoffs are really the only time they need his arm
