Right before too. “But what would you do to make you so valuable in prison that you couldn’t be fucked over?” “That’s what I’m saying I’m going to do play by play for pick up sports” “Yea I don’t think that’s going to wor-“ “-Then I’d be a drug dealer”
The first 5 minutes showed why Burt Reynolds was the biggest star of the 1970's. He had it all. He was sexy, charisma, a real big leading star. Man, I loved him, always will.
@@mattymac1399 Well said. Kiss Me Deadly is a personal favorite of mine. I would also highly recommend Ulzana's Raid & Twilight's Last Gleaming to anyone who hasn't seen them.
Good choice. Early 70’s movies..have to do Getaway, Steve McQueen, Ali McGraw, Al Lettieri from the Godfather, Sally Strutters loves talking about her crazy experiences. Was on Maron last year
Burt was so versatile a lot of those guys from that era were also love them doing more 70s movies here for it. Glad i watched the deliverance one when i dis because now i cant find it on youtube..
Loved this podcast. I’ve been looking forward to this podcast for a long time. But I’m surprised none of the guys mentioned the “Nate Scarboro timeout”. This movie (I think) started the real life practice of all the players on the field coming over to the sideline during timeouts.
I think The Oceans 11 remake and the sequels that follow really overshadows the 60s Rat Pack original to where people are like "Oh, this movie is a remake?"
As a huge Burt reynolds fan. Smokey and the bandit is his peak and the best movie. Needs a rewarchable apparently. Also only one football movie I can rewatch at this point and I’ve seen them all. Best of times. Starring Kurt Russell and robin williams. Rewatch that one.
Started thinking about prison football movies which led to Sleepers, which led me to think they need to do "Revenge Month": 1. Sleepers 2. The Revenant 3. ???? 4. Old Boy - (the reigning heavyweight revenge king) Go Celtics! #18
Can all The Ringer hosts start wearing funny hats? Van definitely started a trend and I could see CR in a top hat with a monocle. Maybe Charles in a big dunce hat or a propeller beanie? Fennessy in one of those 70s apple jack hats, like a pimp?
Reynolds is a bummer to me. His characters resembled him in real life, where he was care free but always landed on his feet. He felt bulletproof, but in real life, things caught up didn't end well. He controlled the ladies in the movies but lost to Loni big.
Original Gone in 60 seconds Maserati Ghibli was peak 70s Maserati. The Citroen SM was in a bunch of TV and Movies and so obviously a marketing gimmick with the suspension shots.
Amanda Dobbins already ruins my other favorite podcase The Big Picture. Thank you for making it a very rare occurrence that she appears on my favorite podcase of all time, The Rewatchables.
Kirk Cousins for Joe Kapp in a modern version!? I can’t think of two guys with bigger difference in personality. Look up Joe Kapp punching out CFL rival Angelo Mosca at an alumni dinner.
Mixture of Cruise or Hanks & Recasting Couch Think Hanks would have made a great Caretaker if they made this in the late 80’s and feel maybe Kevin Costner would make a great Crew 🤔 essentially Crash Davis plays football / goes to prison?? Tom Cruise as Captain/Guards QB would work too but was too short and young at that specific time
Bill and this crew did not identify North Dallas Forty as another good football movie. Hoping they just forgot because these guys usually never miss something like that.
Also on the JJ/Lebron thing… are we sure JJ Redick has NO DISIRE to play/shoot no 3’s?? Being player coach isn’t allowed anymore 👌🏼 even if Lebron has been doing it ever since he left Miami 🤣
BILL GREAY PODCAST ! THE GUY AT THE VERY END OF THIS PODCSAST GIVEN HIS " EBERT: REVIEW NEEDS TO GO FIND A CONSTRUCTION JOB OT GO WATCH ANOTHER WOKE MOVIE OF THE LAST 12YEARS, PATHETIC !!!
Van is just not that good on rewatchables…love him on other pods…the best rewatchables are with Bill,Chris, and Sean..only because they really understand films and film making…total film nerds…
@@mattbodenschatz365 lol for sure. Again I obviously find him entertaining but he frequently misses major plot details and also seems to think that movie scenes are filmed in the exact order that they're presented to the viewer which is almost never actually the case
Since "What's aged worst" is basically Bill's chance to clutch his pearls and pretend that things that made a movie awesome should now be poo-poo'd, I'll toss something out there that's dead nuts on regarding what's aged worst, that he'd never have the balls to put out there: The percentage of black inmates at the prison being so low. That would clearly require an augmented suspension of disbelief today.
You're going backwards....maybe bc you're demo is just 55 year olds...can we get closer to present day movies like little miss sunshine, paid in full, adaptation, Eternal sunshine, dogma
Another for only Americans who loves game movies😮. Only rewatchable thing is selection of the players. Other than that, it's a totally unrewatchable dated movie. Guys, for a dated non american sports movie, do Blind Fury or Ladyhawke instead.
You might need to watch the movie again. It’s great and doesn’t require an American sports fan to enjoy it. The ideas in it are pretty universal. That being said… If you are too biased against American sports movies to enjoy them, maybe a podcast run by Bill Simmons is not the show for you. He’s an American sports guy to his core.
The part about Bill being a potential bookie in prison was hilarious 😂 this pod is a classic already lmao
Right before too.

Just watched this. It has aged so well my god it was so much fun
48:18 kicks off an all time Rewatchables sequence
Van in the big black hat is a vibe and I’m here for it. Sean could benefit from that, maybe a straw boater.
It does a good job with the 'receding hairline'!
CR could bring brown derby hats back
Ed Lauter graduated from a "That Guy" when he coached Rob Lowe in Youngblood !!!!!
"I didn't drive halfway up to the fuckin' Arctic Circle just to get my ass kicked by these goons!"
Saved to watch later but I just hope yall give love to Burt opening real! The car chase scene is great!
The first 5 minutes showed why Burt Reynolds was the biggest star of the 1970's. He had it all. He was sexy, charisma, a real big leading star. Man, I loved him, always will.
Robert Aldrich finally featured on the pod! Hope you guys do The Dirty Dozen at some point too
The Dirty Dozen is a candidate, though Kiss Me Deadly, Emperor of the North or Hustle would be awesome.

Man I swore I was done with MCU but Van’s enthusiasm for Endgame is making me wanna rewatch it
in the UK they remade the longest yard with football (soccer) called mean machine with Vinnie Jones as the crew character
Great show! Thanks! I’m old and saw them in the theater.
I'm surprised that the 2001 British remake "Mean Machine" with Vinnie Jones and Jason Statham wasn't mentioned.

The car is a French Citrroen, known for its hydraulic suspension, a worthy movie car chase, plus short cops!!
Shout out to Anitra Ford. She was also memorable in Messiah of Evil and Invasion of the Bee Girls.
She was a smokeshow
a fellow Man of Culture.
I think The Oceans 11 remake and the sequels that follow really overshadows the 60s Rat Pack original to where people are like "Oh, this movie is a remake?"
STATE OF GRACE REWATCHABLES WHEN???
good call!
North Dallas Forty on the horizon?
The second CRs game job was doubted he immediately just said the real answer of "Drug Dealer" that's why he's my favorite😂
The best double movie with The Longest Yard for me would be Stir Crazy.
"well, lets test ourselves a bit then", damn straight billy boi
Should watch the UK one, MEAN MACHINE. Some classic 'that guys' in that
First great sports movie: The Hustler. Holds up as good as ever.

CRs interruption count: 123 times
Please do Backdraft next time. It's a masterful job by Sutherland. RIP
Charlie Sheen legit thru good pitches in Major League
Sounds like Rollerball is next.
Not sure how Tropic Thunder has flown under the radar of this series.
I could recap The Chronicles of Riddick, no problem
Reynolds is a bummer to me. His characters resembled him in real life, where he was care free but always landed on his feet. He felt bulletproof, but in real life, things caught up didn't end well. He controlled the ladies in the movies but lost to Loni big.
Great movie. One of my favs but here we are, still without RED OCTOBER.
Starz black and MGM+ has that ☕️ that bill and Van are referring to if you know what I mean
Bill forgetting Cruise for car chase driver is weird. He'd have to be number 1 in a draft.
Original Gone in 60 seconds Maserati Ghibli was peak 70s Maserati. The Citroen SM was in a bunch of TV and Movies and so obviously a marketing gimmick with the suspension shots.
I love Craig’s takes, but him saying Crewe obviously should’ve just thrown the game missed the whole point of the movie.
The kids don't get it.
Goodfellas 100%. Blindfolded with my hands tied behind my back.
Same here

Jimmy Carter is ALIVE, fools.

No offense to Bill's ego, but if Pulp Fiction isn't covered in its 30th anniversary year, y'all have jumped the shark with this show.
I think Pulp Fiction is the final episode
NORTH DALLAS Forty. NICK Nolte (slot) from Mack Davis
Mixture of Cruise or Hanks & Recasting Couch

Only a marginally better choice than Slapshot
As if you never mentioned the English remake of this from the 90s. EARLY Jason statham, vinny jones….. come on guys, you’re letting the side down
Friday Night Lights is the best football movie.
Bill and this crew did not identify North Dallas Forty as another good football movie. Hoping they just forgot because these guys usually never miss something like that.
Blue Horseshoe loves Anacott Steel, guys. Not Blue Oyster. Come on.
Also on the JJ/Lebron thing… are we sure JJ Redick has NO DISIRE to play/shoot no 3’s?? Being player coach isn’t allowed anymore 👌🏼 even if Lebron has been doing it ever since he left Miami 🤣
This is the first time I've ever completely disagreed with a Ringer take. Broken Arrow is absolute trash and should be stricken from movie history.
