This is THE most satisfying RC video I've watched in my life. I have the Carbon Cub S+ as one of my first planes and will train some more months with it to get ready for this beautiful Carbon Z Cub SS. The sound, the versatility, the look - awesome. Great flying skills shown here Brian, amazing work from camera-crew, too! Hope Horizon Hobby rewards you for that. And since I am from Germany I need to mention the unboxing video and that "DE" in the manual doesn't mean Dutch (Netherland's language), but "DEeutsch", German. Calling a German "Dutch" is like I'd refer to Americans as Canadians :)
So glad you enjoyed the video!!! There's literally thousands more where that came from, if you've got the time :) Sorry for my misunderstanding, regarding the languages, Peter :)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Of course I already watched a bunch of your other videos whenever I have the time. Big smile when I watched your "Spektrum Smart Charger" video after you said that you didn't buy that stuff for a second :))) I have the S2100 charger, am very happy with it and happy too that I can focus on other things than battery science.
Mrs. Phillips, you are the most wonderful woman on Earth! You are also without question the best RC videographer ever! Your skills are so amazing and you are so very smooth with zooming, panning, framing, tracking and everything! You also never whimper once about planes crossing overhead and you track every motion with champion skills!!! You do so well that those of us watching simply forget someone is filming! It is so true! Viewing for us is better and easier than being there in person! Thank you for the amazing work you do so that we can enjoy Brian's knowledge and skills. You are truly a very magnificent lady. Brian, you are so very fortunate to have her support. Please find something she truly loves and reward her. You two have a great channel! Thank you so very much! I learn so much and truly enjoy...
@@BrianPhillipsRC Ahahahahhahaa! Suk on it Brian, You kick freckle Mate. 100 bazillion wannabees prove it Freak. Not forgetting the camera doll, Oh Yeah!
I've revisited this video and it reminded me how much I enjoy your reviews of the larger hobby grade planes vs the toy grade. The hobby grade planes showcase your piloting skills. Great job Brian.
@@BrianPhillipsRC You were right on time!!! Great video!!! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Great flying. Low altitude flying on the calm day was impressive, but handling the wind was awesome. Thanks Brian.
Totally agree! I know I wouldn't be in the hobby if I HAD to fly at a club. I don't think I would have survived the travel time...but not everyone is going to be so lucky.
Thanks Toby! I'm glad to be a part of this awesome community! I wish I had a bit more free time, now-a-days, so I could share a bit more, and more often, but this will happen again when we get a feet under us. Still getting settled in our new house, and still don't have a shop setup. When that's done, I feel like I'll be back to where I left things at the old house.
You're a good pilot and a confident one, so much so that you can fly in close to the camera providing great footage. By the way, your lady does an excellent job with the camera.
Thanks so much for saying that! My wife, Megan, does a great job filming. We didn't realize what a knack she has for filming until we started this little RUclips "experiment". We're lucky to have her helping us out! As for staying close...I try, and it does somewhat limit what I can do (for a video audience), but it's totally my "style" to fly in close quarters. I LOVE having the limitations, but there's times it's nice to have a bit more room, or when flying with a smaller aircraft, it's REALLY easy to shoot a landing, compared to this behemoth! Thanks for watching, and for the kind words!
Mike and Dee - This plane is worth the money, but it is a lot of money - totally get it ;) I hope that you'll find a great deal some day, because this plane is a real joy to fly!!!
So you were balancing the prop with the tape but I didn't hear mention of a prop balancer. The prop balancer would eliminate the guess work. Im used to large helis 800mm and the Carbon Z Yak, but my sweetheart got this for me for Christmas. Its still in the box until the 25th. Im dying to fly this.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I jist got the Carbon Cub 2.1. Mine definitely didn't fly as good as yours. I could barely get it off the ground. 2 of the 3 flights it stalled left one time and stalled right the other right after getting off the ground. I had to emergency land both times. Any thoughts? I've never used flaps and I was using no as3x or safe. I was just full manual like everything else I've ever done.
You have mad skills. For large heli blades I've always put a steak knife in a vise and placed the blade until it balanced. Marked where that was on both and lined both up. So far the blades I've bought have been balanced great from the factory.
A++ on the quality of video, great job, I have to give credit to your wife, most videos are hard to watch due to poor video quality. Excellent flying skills also, close to house, trees, power lines.
Nice flying Brian, and lots of good suggestions. So, you want a carbon cub and your own runway. Go for it. A Citabria is a less expensive entry. I had one. About 40K. My runway is 900ft and its one way in and out. One side uphill and tall trees, the other, open water. You can set up a nice approach but once you are below tree level there is no going around. Never been a problem though. And man, it is so much fun to walk out the back door and jump in an airplane. I had a friend who used to do high alpha takeoffs just like you did with that cub, but with a full sized 172. Sadly, his antics eventually ended badly. When you get your full sized airplane put on a different hat. :). Looking forward to your Draco review. I have one on order.
That is AWESOME, and you've made me super jealous!!! I want to buy out my neighbor to the South, and use the crest of our knolls back there for a runway...that's why we do GRASS hay, and not alfalfa (tangling the wheels up would make for a bad day, I suspect). Some day, you should EMAIL me, so we can share more specifics that might not be appropriate in this public arena. We have it listed on the ABOUT part of the channel...and we are slow with checking it, it's kind of a good Spam catcher - LOL ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC I mowed mine lawn smooth, always. Believe it or not but a grass stain on a prop is considered a prop strike, and a prop strike (FAA rule) requires the engine be torn down and inspected. I doubt anyone does, but if you got ramp checked with grass stains on the prop you’d have to. So, the runway at least has to be mowed short. Doesn’t matter what grows to either side. I cultivated some nice tough poverty grass and goldenrod beside mine!
Ty - yeah, at about 14:30 or so, there was a "moment", but other than that, she's a great flying, and fairly forgiving aircraft...when you get ready to land, the plane seems to reject any notion of ground effect - LOL - which is why you see me smacking it to the ground so many times. It's very finite, the stall speed, there's NO warning...it just falls!
I know! She's very good! I hate when I see a Horizon Hobby video using some of the best quality gear, and they can't keep the plane in frame....we use cell phones - LOL ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC I can fly almost as good as you on my RF9 "Lost Vegas Wacky" server … I'm hoping to build a little camera platform to keep an airplane centered with the camera soon. Still waiting for parts. Then I'll try my Sport Cub S in a local parking lot. R2Pv1.com is my robot hobby site … www.brainless.org/MultiMedia/RC/Video/Capt.Kill4Fun/ that's me learning how to fly back in 2004/2005 … I miss my SIG Kadet Senior ARF.
Thanks Chris! I was a bit embarrassed that the tape blew off the prop (twice!!!) but this is what happens in "Real life" so best you know what to expect, if you're learning how to do it ;)
This is my first time seeing you fly and man you are a complete show off the property, back drop, small plane run way. "Maybe a real run way soon." You get on my nerves man I love it! Lmbo I can't fly no where near my house because of Andrews air force base.( No fly zone ). Keep the videos coming
At least you get to watch the awesome planes flying from the AFB!!! BUT that would suck with the no flight zone. How bad would that suck if they built an airport right next to my house - LOL - this is part of the reason I want to make a full scale runway ;) Get it established now, then muddy the waters for the FAA. If it's "my" private runway, then I guess I will be in full compliance - I HOPE!!! P.S. I'm glad I could be of some annoyance to you ;) JK Keep coming back for more!
Your neighbors probably think there is a crop duster around.. you took some chances, but that's what makes you get better, it would be kind of boreing otherwise.. that plane needs lights! Good video, looking forward to thd next video.. HOrizon should send you planes to review!
I totally agree about the lights!!! Daylight "savings" stupidity is about to go into force, so we'll have to come home from work to a pittance of daylight - PUKE - thus nav lights and landing lights are going to be a thing very soon. Maybe if my other filming obligations pan out the way I expect, I can work that mod video into my docket in the next few weeks. I'm also trying to buy a tractor right now, and we've been working out tails off on getting the woods cleaned up before horrible weather sets in, but that could actually wait.... As for Horizon Hobby sending me planes - yes please!!! I've kinda been asking for a couple years now, but they don't seem to even understand how many times I've sold stuff for them. I'd be nice, even if they'd give me a blanket discount at least, but I guess they know me well enough to know I'm gonna buy it anyway, so why offer it to me for free or at a discount (I don't know, maybe so I wouldn't have time to review Banggood stuff???? - Just saying - LOL)
Regrettably, no...not from the 1.1 m size, sorry! I was just out with the owner of HobbyTown and hid employees....in fact it wasn't my Carbon Cub S+...it belonged to one of the employees.
yo ...Brian your flying skills are amazing !!! watch all your vids, totally immersed ...and Megan you make the video experience with your camera work .....perfection !!! we so need to see the camera crew in some of these vids !!!
Awesome! Glad to help! When you get a prop with a bit of a BEND, it can also cause some vibration, so check that too...look at the prop from the side and top while it's spinning (CAREFULLY, of course) and then double check the prop isn't "wobbling". Even if you have it balanced, this wobbling will make it seem out of balance. Also, you may need to check the balance of the spinner too, and sometimes the motor! If the prop is all, you'll be good with the tape solution, even though some of the "old timers" will complain it's pretty half-assed...BUTT it works ;)

Brian, not really a flying question - but as we get out of another lock-down here in the UK I want to tidy up my cub. The orange paint seems poorly applied and the aircraft needs a little TLC with the paint coming off at the edges of certain areas. Do you know what kind of paint I should get - ideally the correct orange of course, but what type of paint too? BTW - very much looking forward to your Draco review - I assume you are already flying it as you wait for being able to review it.
I don't know the color, but I would say pick the closest orange and plan to paint whole sections ;( I HATE having to touch up hangar rash...since there's always that flaky stuff that doesn't stick, and then 95% of it that's totally fine... I've been told you can take some paint or a single part off the plane and take it into a hardware store and have latex paint matched, almost exactly...but I've never done this myself...so I feel bad recommending it without first had experience ;) As for the Draco... We have the Draco now, BUT we aren't allowed to review yet. This is not our choice. We will ABSOLUTELY BE REVIEWING IT ASAP! Please understand, our hands are tied...We can't even publish photos :(.... It is a wonderful plane. Much better value than the EC1500 that I recently reviewed. It's a JOY to fly, and beautiful too! What a great plane! Only issues are very minor, and easy to forgive, given the plane IS still foam. Thanks for watching!
Purchased this based off your review and flights, being new to the hobby I must say what a great plane! Absolutely fun to fly and feels easier to fly then my "trainer 40".
Revisiting this video reminded me how I used to get anything up to 25 mins flying when I converted my old 35mhz VMAR Viper to brushless and 2200 3s lipo power about 12 years ago. Why is it now that just 7 minutes is good for so many of the e flite planes I have? AS3X? 2.4ghz rx? It feels like we've gone backwards in terms of flight times.
Hey Brian I would like to see a comparison between the Carbon Z Cub and the FMS 2000mm Beaver. I like the detail and scale looks of the new version 2 FMS Beaver. Do you plane on getting that one anytime soon and doing a review?
I have tons of LED mods on my channel. Here's a couple planes.... Cessna 182 UMX (Check the playlists, and you can watch what you want to see) Aero Commander UMX, Spitfire 1.2m, etc...tons of them, but it's been a while since I did one.
My aeroscout makes that same loud propeller noise. Instead of adding take would a new prop fix it? I don’t remember it sounding like that until I replaced the fuselage and swapped motor/prop over. I don’t believe prop has any damage being a push prop
Gotta dig in and see if the prop is out of balance, or if you have a magnet thrown in the motor, or some other mechanical binding. Once you find it, you need to resolve it so you don't get into a dangerous condition. If the servos are making noise, like when you SHIFT the plane in your hand, that's normal...but if the prop / motor makes noise, you need to check it out.
Hi Brian. Great video and nice flying. This plane flies so nice and look's so nice in the air. Ive been using an E Flite 4400 6s 30c. I flew the other day for ten minute's and still had 60 percent left on it. This is an amazing plane. Thanks for your videos they are a big help.
@@BrianPhillipsRC No puffing yet. I have four of them just for my Carbin Z cub, But Ive only had it about two months.I only bought the E Flite because thats all they had at the Hobby shop where I bought my plane at. But Im going to look into those zop battery's
Jeeeeeze - Four of them!!! That's a lot of cash! If you don't store your Lipos charged, you'll have a lot better chance at success. I do store my lipos charged...which is a bit of a "no no"
We do lots of training, but we don't do many how to fly videos. We try to go into this more with beginner style planes, but in my experience, learning to fly RC is an excersize in repetition and muscle memory for best results FIRST, then mix in flight principles as we progress. If you want to see more of how we got to where we are, which would be very cringe-worthy for me...but you might get a kick out of it. Just go to the last video and start working your way forward - 6 or so years of progression ;)
My carbon cub SS will be here in a week.... we can’t get the 5000mah 6s batteries in Canada. Are the 4000mah spectrum 6s batteries good enough?? I saw you used a couple 4000 packs and got decent flight time and seemed like lots of power.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Ok i saw the video , i will re-watch it. i remember you stating some numbers was just curious if actual fight changed them. Thank you for responding
Awsome, Z-Cub nice size, great flying looks like fun, i think i like light wing loading on this one, and i like your new place, im still flying old school glow planes, almost done with my four star 40 with the 46 fx, i want to learn more about electric to add tower hobbie 60 arf, happy flying
It's a great plane! Flies like a champ. As for settings, I've changed nothing. It's just a great flying plane. Still no LED's, which I realize is a bummer for some of my RUclipsr followers...but I have been way too busy with everything else. I love this plane still. I only hate that the inboard portion of the wings is crushing as expected...hollow wings make for a much lighter wing, but much easier to crush a bit when you pick it up. I'd like to see a better design around this type of practical issue, but other than that, it's a total keeper!!!!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks for reply, seems like I need to add more diff to elevater when I drop flaps, this is my first rc with flaps, but man what a super flyer-thanks again for all your great videos, they are very helpful,Rick
Brian did you also fly rc helicopters? I was thinking of getting a E flite carbon z cub 2.1 witch you made a video on. but i heard it was discontinued is that true. and if it is is E flite coming out with a new advance one? I fly goblins like a 570 & 770 but was thinking on getting a plane and found your video of the carbon Z seem to be easy to fly. i have a DX9 and 6s 5000mah lipo's with EC5 connectors so it would be a perfect fit.
The Carbon Z Cub is a HUGE and AWESOME plane. You will love it. Fixed wing is a different experience, but you can do it with a big enough flight field. The item I linked is discontinued, but they re-PART-NUMBERED any plane they put a new Rx in...so here's what you can do. Follow my link, then just search for the plane again, or follow this NEW link... Carbon Z Cub SS 2.1m bit.ly/30P5mUA (updated 3/16/2021) Sorry for the inconvenience. @@BrianPhillipsRC i guess they up the price $ 20. Last time I saw it for $429. I guess il have to ask a little more for my 570 . Lol. Well thanks for the info. Love your field. Nothing like walking out your front door.
Great video! I’m looking at the smaller Carbon Cub S+ 1.3. I haven’t flown planes in years but thought this one might be a good one to get back into it. Have you flown this one yet? Thanks
Yes, flies very good, BUT it's a HUGE pain in the butt to get the stupid geo-fencing system to work, and better bring a change of drawers for the first time it totally takes over and you swear you've lost control totally, and then you realize, you just went past the geo-fence. Other than that, it's a GREAT flying and BEAUTIFUL plane. I would have one if HH would offer it as a BNF WITHOUT all the stupid GPS crap. I don't mind the SAFE or SAFE Select for a second, but the GPS+ is a NO-GO for me :)
Brian Phillips Dangit! That’s what I kind of thought about the geo-fence gps thing. I was hoping that you could turn that off or snip some wires once the confidence is gained. It’s such a beautiful plane, I might get it anyway.
You CAN, but it's not an "on/off" switch...you literally have to REMOVE the GPS portion. I haven't done it myself, but many have....sorry I can't tell you exactly, but I've heard about it. Great plane though, and worthy of some effort. If I didn't have the Carbon Cub SS 2.1m, I'd seriously consider getting one of these 1.1m beauties. My friend Esteban, had the Red and White one, and we flew the wheels off that thing.
Back again, watching you fly it reminds me so much like my Timbers, but a little more in the cost. I think I would might get one. They are fun to fly. In your opinion which battery is better. I think they were about the same as far as balance goes. Danny
yes, they seem to be about the same, but the ZOP packs seem to fly longer...partially, because it was NEW and the Turnigy is not brand new (2 seasons old??? - sorry, I'm not 100% sure on that)...BUT my Turnigy packs do tend to puff pretty bad, since I'm not very nice to the packs always. You might be pleasantly surprised how inexpensive these ZOP lipos are, but they're only a small savings over Turnigy...or Zippy...except I LOVE XT60's, and I can get them stock with ZOP. This is a big time saver for me. Soldering on different ends is a real pain in the neck on lipos, especially BIGGER ones ;)
Brian, tell me please, what is the mix flaps with elevator in mm. F.ex. 18 mm flaps - > elevator mm ? Same for 40 mm flaps ---> elevator mm ? I have the problem with it. There is no info in manual unfortunately. Thank you for your interesting films. Best reggards Peter
I don't know - I don't do that. Set the servo to go all the way down for "Landing" and 30-40% down from center, for "Takeoff". If that isn't enough, adjust from there. Flaps are subjective from one pilot to another anyway.
Hi Brian, What is your setting ? Do you set ailerons, elevator, ruder according to manual instruction ? 45 +/- mm aileron, 25+ 15- mm elevator and 25 mm +/- ruder Do you use the expo ? I do not understand EXPO 10% for each. What does it mean, cause I didn't use expo. Best regards
By the way, this is the first time I've watched your videos on RUclips, and subscribed .I've spent all day watching your videos. The small helicopter review with your "camera crew" flying it was hilarious. You've made me a huge fan.

Im having problems with mine. Throttle does not kick in before almost halv stick. I need to figure out how to calibrate the esc. But with the AS3X it is impossible
You can calibrate the throttle range super easy. Generally, you put the throttle stick to 100%, then plug in the plane, but do it SUPER CAREFUL! This plane can chop your fingers off if you're not CAREFUL!!! Secure the plane and keep in a safe position, but best option would be to remove the prop. When the plane FAILS to initiate, you'll hear the songs from the ESC, and then just pull the Throttle stick down to 0%. If that DOESN'T work, call horizon and see what they suggest. Also, make sure the monitor mode shows a nice linear response similar to your stick position through the range.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Naah. I have done this for about 11 years and the 60A eflite esc doesnt calibrate like ordinary esc. And Horizon couldnt help me. But i just adjusted the lower travel in radio and now it is a bit better. Thank you for your time sir. Bengt
Great question! I love the Carbon Z Cub, and probably I'd say for me it's the better pick... I fly at home, so transport is a big issue with this BIG plane. If that's not an issue for you, this is the victor. Secondly, if you're eyesight is poor, you will want the Carbon Z Cub, since it's about twice as big, and way easier to see and ENJOY at distance... That being said, the A-10 is a GREAT flying jet. It's got pretty much a 1:1 power to weight ratio, which means you can pull out of lots of mistakes, and she'll live to see another day. She's probably the easiest jet to land (Aside from the Habu, which is in a class of it's own). She has flaps and LED's and it pretty much "done", meaning I won't need to do anything to her to get her "up to my standards", and she'll fly at twilight out of the box, while the Carbon Z Cub has no LED's - something that is asinine to be left off a plane of this caliber, cost, and size - HH committed RC malpractice on this move. Hope these pointers help you make an informed decision that's right for YOU ;) Carbon-Z Cub SS 2.1m bit.ly/2OqQllK A-10 Thunderbolt 64mm bit.ly/2CCiFPp ...is it too much to ask for BOTH??? ;)
i was under the impression that any puffyness was bad ... and for it to be that inflated after 4 to 6 uses ? .. would you say you are hard on your batteries? Is there a way to prevent this ? I love the cub .. i have been considering buying one for a couple years now .. you're a crazy guy . love your channel
Puffiness is not good. I have run packs that are puffy from early on, and they run just fine, while others have had horror stories of packs catching fire (I've NEVER had this happen, except when I put a nail through them). You have to use your best judgment.
You're killing me! I've looked at this under serious consideration and have been looking at the Flex Mamba 10. Your video has me seriously wanting this one
You will not regret this plane, but it is kinda expensive...still a good value, if you ask me. Is it too much to ask for BOTH??? LOL - I know your pain.
I can't decide between this one and the Timber X for my next plane. I already have the Timber Turbo and ParkZone Carbon Cub, but this one is so damn beautiful! The way it slows down is mesmerizing. And the size is very inviting for those gusty days
Hi, I’m just getting into RC planes I’ve only flown RC helis for the last few years. I’m interested in the UMX Timber or the Sport Cub Or the Aeroscout. I believe all will work with a Dxe transmitter but wondering what you recommend for a starter and why. In my inexperience I’m most interested in the aeroscout for its size / speed / agility but also interested in the UMX Timber since I may fly mostly in the evenings and at the park accross the street in somewhat confined space. Have you / would you review the Aeroscout?
If you can fly (collective pitch) helicopters, you can probably fly a plane pretty easily. The skills are VERY similar....but planes are easier in some ways, and harder in other ways. I would highly recommend the Sport Cub S UMX, but if you want to skip to my next recommendation, the Timber UMX would be a GREAT option too, but slightly more costly...however, it's WAY more capable and more fun. Both have SAFE, which will help you keep your plane in one piece, as you get used to the slightly different controls. As you can imagine, flying a plane does require more room, and make sure you cut the throttle to zero when you think you're going to hit the ground....not 100% throttle to avoid a crash, as you may have learned with heli's. Go for it! You CAN do it, and probably do it already, you just don't know it!
Forgot to answer about the Aeroscout...I don't know. Sorry, I don't have one, so I can't speak to it's capabilities. Go for the Timber UMX. It's a Great option, and you already have the transmitter to get up and running. You won't be disappointed ;)
Brian Phillips I think for the evening sessions at the park accross the street the UMX Timber will be awesome. Appreciate your insights on it being much more capable than the Sport Cub. I think I will wait until I’m comfortable with the UMX Timber and later on get the Aeroscout for an FPV setup down the road. I think the DXE transmitter works for both
@@BrianPhillipsRC -- now that's funny. I feel like even if you would have lost it into the ground there, the damage would have been nominal....busted prop and maybe some landing gear headaches , but then again, maybe she's a heavy beast and would have tore a hole in the ground....
Oscillation is where the plane wiggles as the stabilizer is over correcting to one degree or the other. Alternatively, I might have been referring to the vibration from the prop in this video? This was caused by a slightly out of balance prop. Easy fix ;)
Hi, yea i work on real planes for a living, ive ben in the airplane detail and sales hanger for 4 years now. So i work on some of the cirrus and ttx and bananza’s,its cool to have your job as your hobbie as well,👍
Very cool! Neat to be around it all the time. Aviation is kind of a club...when you're in, you're in... I've met a few people that I would have NEVER met becasue of the exposure from this channel, and it's pretty cool to have "friends in high places" :) Hope you get the pun
Thank You Brian for saying you don't need to fly it like a helicopter !!!! I agree 100%, airplanes are beautiful flying like a airplane, not hovering!!! Hey, great video, I'm getting this plane as soon as it's off backorder. Love your videos, watch them all !!! Jerry F
Hey Brian I have a quick question? I have a Carbon Z cub as well but I kinda bent the rudder not having my glasses on..Can I change out the rudder without damaging the fuselage?
I bet you can just yank it out. When you go to put it back in, you might have a bit of a gap to fill. You can use a bit of cotton on that part, when you're ready to CA it back in, if it gets really torn up
@@BrianPhillipsRC you should splice it into one of your vids to show how convincing they are! Haven’t gotten any myself yet but I’m sure I will eventually
Ballooning with Flaps deployed? No, that's corrected by an elevator correction when the flaps are deployed. The plane would just dive if you try to correct this type of issue with a heavier battery, unless your just trying to impact the CG with a bigger pack, rather than moving it, as you can on this model...there's a battery try that lets you put the pack in one of 4-5 positions (Can't remember off hand how many)
Yeah! The wings both come off, and the struts can be very easily tool-less-ly-removed.....a new "word"...BUT the plane is STILL BIG!!! The horizontal stab can also be removed, but I think it's the least important item to remove.
I'm about 2-3 feet from the BOTTOM of the lower wire, and when I'm over them, I'm a few plane widths or more. I have a bush/tree on the right side of the driveway (between the fence and the mail box) that forces me to compensate up a little bit...if I was 100% certain I were flying in the middle of the driveway approach, I could go lower, and "split the difference" between the power lines and driveway, but that's a bit optimistic.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Interesting. I guess it's no place for a beginner. I was wondering if you know how to program throttle cut when you are using dif thrust. Only one of the motors stays off when I programmed it. thanks
YES! You can setup a switch in the MIX. It's a bit of a pain, but you CAN do it. I have done it, and I believe I show how to do it, in my Tian Sheng Airbus A380 Build Series. Look at the playlists, then pick that plane, and go to the description, or the whole playlist, and you can see where to find your answer :) (I'm not gonna make you a link - I want to see if you can find it - Thanks Gene )
@@BrianPhillipsRC how many acres do you fly on there (approx.). I wonder what the minimum amount of property you'd have to have to fly this particular cub would be? Looks like a property that can be expanded (buy more adjacent property if available, etc.). Looks perfect!!!!
We have just over 10 acres, but we only really fly over about 3 acres or so. Sorry for the slow reply, RUclips has some new comment sorting systems in place, but it makes it really hard to find replies to replies ...so now I'm trying to figure out a way to keep up to speed. I enjoy keeping a dialog with my viewers, and appreciate you guys, so feel bad when I leave you hanging!!!
Brian, I see you do stuff from time to time that I dont agree with, but I gotta say something this time: That is NOT in any way a valid way to balance a prop. Also, the main reason the Z Cub sounds that way, is because of the spinner. Its been an issue since the V1, and I have had 3 CZ Cubs. (Currently have a v1, and a v2, sold my other v1). Balance the prop properly using a balancer, then add a better quality spinner. Your power train will be glad you did. Cheers
Totally agree with you. I notice he didn't respond. Brian...take all this as constructive criticism. Balance your prop with a quality balancer during the build before you put it on. (Du Bro makes a great one) Also for the sake of terminology...you are hearing vibration, not oscillation. Oscillation is what the gyro /AS3X makes the air frame do if the gains are too high at speed or if there is too much vibration. (over correcting back and forth) And one last thing...you are coming very close to yourself and your wife when you fly. You can risk you all you want if you so choose, but never fly a plane right at someone else...especially a big plane. At 3:30...that was dangerous. I know lens focal length may distort how close it looks, but you still flew right at her. Your piloting skills are much better than in your early video's and most of the time your video's are very entertaining, but no amount of skill negates basic safety. Anything can happen - electronic failure, dumb thumb, anything. If you hit her you won't forgive yourself. Please be more careful and happy flying.
MrCubcrazy - Why is this NOT a valid way to balance a prop? If the tape fails, sure it's not great... If you have a solution to the spinner being the issue, please share, so I can try it myself.
Model Aviator Adventures - Sorry I didn't reply fast enough for your taste. If you weren't already aware, I have a full time job, a family of four, and loads of other responsibilities...didn't know I had to beat you to the reply. As for the constructive criticism, I always do listen, but I don't always accept the premises of others' arguments....same as most people. The out of balance prop issue JUST came up. It wasn't present on prior flights (that I know of) so why would I assume there's an issue before I took off and saw symptoms? Do you take off your props before each and every flight and balance them? Vibration and osculation are very similar, if not synonymous. I appreciate there may be better ways of communicating complex ideas, but we don't rehearse, and don't edit - get used to my "mis-speaks". @ 3:30 - Yes, that was an uncharacteristically closer than usual pass. I made a mistake on my previous maneuver that lined me up very poorly. As you know, risk is heightened by increased exposure, so I try to minimize such mistakes ever causing a dangerous condition, let alone an actual injury. I don't often make passes like that, as the planes inertia could carry it into us, in the event of an exceptionally un-lucky, mal-timed failure at the bottom of that maneuver. I try to fly in such a way that if the plane had a serious malfunction, we'll have an out. I definitely appreciate that "anything can happen" and take this into account as I chose my flight paths. I do loads of close flying, as you know. You didn't see it, as it happened off camera between flights on the second lipo flights, but I talked with Megan about a safety concern I was having. She had been creeping outside of my comfort zone, which is usually to my right, just within my peripheral vision, so I can KNOW exactly where she is, thus keeping ME between her and the plane, even when I come close. We got that worked out right away, but some things aren't meant for on camera - this was one of them. I want you to know that I try my best to keep people safe. I've never caused an injury while flying, but don't want to start now, either.
He did give you the solution...use a better quality aftermarket spinner. Your way is not valid for two reasons. First you are doing it on a plugged up, live plane...which is dangerous even with a throttle cut. Second you are guessing which blade is the heavy/lighter one and guessing how much tape to use to solve it. A proper balancer will instantly show the heavier of the blades and you can better judge how much tape, paint, glue to use to begin with. A much faster, more precise, and safer way to do it. It is what they are made for. Again...I'm not picking on you. I have 35 years in the hobby and have worked in the industry. This is meant to be constructive...to make you a better, safer model aviator. Somebody taught us...we are trying to pass it on to you. Please don't be offended. The best pilots/modelers are never too good to learn. I am a forever student and learn constantly. No shame in not knowing something yet, but too much ego to be taught can be a problem. I try not to be that guy...and respectfully urge you to do the same. Happy, safe flying friend!
I replied to your comment to Cubcrazy. And no...I don't balance my props before every flight. I do balance my props before installation as most (with the exception to Xoar...which are balanced at the factory) are not balanced beforehand. In the event of a sudden change in vibration...I unplug the plane and inspect it...lots of things can cause vibration...if it comes down to the prop I take it off and do what i suggest in my other reply. Glad to hear safety is in mind when you film.
Totally fine, but I have to admit, I only fly her a few times a month, if that. We're super busy with so many products, that she has a pretty easy life....almost a vacation lifestyle ;)
There's literally thousands more where that came from, if you've got the time :)
Sorry for my misunderstanding, regarding the languages, Peter :)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Of course I already watched a bunch of your other videos whenever I have the time. I fly in my front yard as well.. I just came in the house from flying my son's HK Tundra.. How wonderful! It's a little slice of heaven!
Totally agree! I know I wouldn't be in the hobby if I HAD to fly at a club. I don't think I would have survived the travel time...but not everyone is going to be so lucky.

Awesome plane! So realistic. Great video!
Thanks Jeff! Did my co-worker (Max) call you up?
Hi
Love that plane, can't spend that much money yet some day. Great video thanks to your camera crew thank her for me. Great place to fly also.
Mike and Dee - This plane is worth the money, but it is a lot of money - totally get it ;) I hope that you'll find a great deal some day, because this plane is a real joy to fly!!!
I have 2 e flite batteries to use for winches on trail trucks. One puffed before I ever used it. Excellent video by the way 👌🏼
Thanks! Sorry to hear the battery puffed - hate when that happens!!!
Yes, I too have a prop balancer, and have used it with mixed results. I would like someone to show me how to do it with a large Heli blade though.
Thanks Mike! Megan, my wife and "camera crew" does a good job filming, and this plane is excellent!
Wow I really enjoyed watching your flight times with the cub.
Great commentary! great video!
Thank you Mark! I LOVE This plane! Gotta be one of my favorites, and I have a lot of favorites!!! :)
Wow, you were making me nervous, nice save, wow!
Yeah I’ve noticed Brian is a very good pilot
Thanks vizak20 ;)
Ty - yeah, at about 14:30 or so, there was a "moment", but other than that, she's a great flying, and fairly forgiving aircraft...when you get ready to land, the plane seems to reject any notion of ground effect - LOL - which is why you see me smacking it to the ground so many times. It's very finite, the stall speed, there's NO warning...it just falls!
Hi
I was just about to say that
Nice flying, thanks for sharing
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!!!
Really good follow with the camera ... she knows how to capture video so it looks great!
Hi Brian thank you for the video excellent flying... also thank you for the helpful information on prop balancing very useful....best wishes Chris
Thanks Chris! I was a bit embarrassed that the tape blew off the prop (twice!!!) but this is what happens in "Real life" so best you know what to expect, if you're learning how to do it ;)
BRO you are an excellent pilot!!
Thanks! I love flying, and do quite a bit of it, but still learn something new every time I fly!
great plane brother. you are really really a great pilot for real bud
Thanks Tim! I've been flying for about 5 years, and still have a LOT to learn, but with practice, anyone can do it!!!
I like the way you fly.
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoy it!!!
Very cool, thank you Brian
You're welcome! Thanks for stopping by again!
Nice video and great flying area that you have there.
Agreed, and thanks!!!

I am a new Pilot, and crashed my Plane. now i got vibrations. your trick with the Tape helps a lot. very good. Thx

Thank you for the quick and detailed answer. I have a small plane (A160 J3). the propeller bracket has already broken several times so I rebuilt and realigned it. the last alignment works perfectly with the tape. you can hear how the tone changes when the adhesive tape is stuck a few millimeters further to the left or right. The "old timers" don't interest me :-) we live today, not in the past :-) :-)
thank you very much for your videos

I've been told you can take some paint or a single part off the plane and take it into a hardware store and have latex paint matched, almost exactly...but I've never done this myself...so I feel bad recommending it without first had experience ;)
As for the Draco...

For sure. You should definitely get one! If you do, think out buying it here ( Carbon-Z Cub SS 2.1m BNF - bit.ly/2RyYsid ), to help out our channel!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC - FYI the link doesn't work anymore (I get it's 9 months old). I'm still thinking about getting one of these myself.
Great flying 👍🏻
Thanks Nick!!! This plane is such a GREAT flying plane. You gotta get one!
Thanks Brian.
you're welcome!
this one i like Brian...I just picked up a new arrow bigfoot.waiting on some better weather.
Have fun!
When I'm not flying my own Carbon Z Cub, or flying the Carbon Z Cub on RealFlight, I watch Brian Phillips flying the Carbon Z Cub. It's that good.
I'm getting about 25+ minutes on my new 7000mAh 6S 30C G2 packs ;) BUT I'm pushing them a lot
Hey Brian I would like to see a comparison between the Carbon Z Cub and the FMS 2000mm Beaver. I like the detail and scale looks of the new version 2 FMS Beaver. Do you plane on getting that one anytime soon and doing a review?
I would too, but I don't have the FMS Beaver.
Maybe show how you can build in navigation light and strobes in this big plane?
I have tons of LED mods on my channel. Here's a couple planes.... Cessna 182 UMX (Check the playlists, and you can watch what you want to see) Aero Commander UMX, Spitfire 1.2m, etc...tons of them, but it's been a while since I did one.
Brian Phillips thanks!!
Super great video . Awesome ! Thank you , I also learned a lot from you making this video . Great flying skill.
I'm so glad you did! That's what we hope to do with much of our effort here - get more people into flying, and help guide them into GOOD models ;)
Glad they're helping you out! We really appreciate you stopping by! The 4400mAh 6S from Eflite, out of curiosity...does it puff on you (yet)?
@@BrianPhillipsRC No puffing yet. I have four of them just for my Carbin Z cub, But Ive only had it about two months.I only bought the E Flite because thats all they had at the Hobby shop where I bought my plane at. But Im going to look into those zop battery's
Jeeeeeze - Four of them!!! That's a lot of cash! If you don't store your Lipos charged, you'll have a lot better chance at success. I do store my lipos charged...which is a bit of a "no no"
Thanks Brian for response...I love your videos...do you do training videos..let me know please
@@BrianPhillipsRC wow that’s impressive buddy
My carbon cub SS will be here in a week.... we can’t get the 5000mah 6s batteries in Canada.
Are the 4000mah spectrum 6s batteries good enough?? I saw you used a couple 4000 packs and got decent flight time and seemed like lots of power.
Yes. You can also do TWIN 3S in Series, if you wish.
Hello Brian, just an FYI, your link to the Carbon Cub SS 2.1m comes up as discounted.

Have you flown any electric planes?
Hey Brian, since you've flown it a bit what are your final settings? throws, expo and flap differental? Thanks,Rick

Sorry for the inconvenience. I've asked HH to look into fixing this "bug"...
@@BrianPhillipsRC i guess they up the price $ 20. Last time I saw it for $429. I guess il have to ask a little more for my 570 . Lol. Well thanks for the info. Love your field. Nothing like walking out your front door.
True!
Hi Brian, Do you think a DX6i would work with this plane? I want to upgrade but getting the plane would be more exciting at this time.
It should, I can't think of a reason it wouldn't.
Best reggards
Peter
I don't know - I don't do that. Set the servo to go all the way down for "Landing" and 30-40% down from center, for "Takeoff". If that isn't enough, adjust from there. Flaps are subjective from one pilot to another anyway.
Hi Brian,
What is your setting ?
Do you set ailerons, elevator, ruder according to manual instruction ? 45 +/- mm aileron, 25+ 15- mm elevator and 25 mm +/- ruder
Do you use the expo ? I do not understand EXPO 10% for each. What does it mean, cause I didn't use expo.
Best regards
I don't set throws per manual. I DO use EXPO. What is your transmitter before I get into the Expo explanation?
You failed to mention about the problem you had with the cowl release. What was the solution??
I'm sorry Barrie, can you help me with a time stamp, or just give me a bit more info - I don't recall the context of what you're asking.
It was the first part of your out of sequence review of Carbon Z Cub.
By the way, this is the first time I've watched your videos on RUclips, and subscribed .I've spent all day watching your videos. The small helicopter review with your "camera crew" flying it was hilarious. You've made me a huge fan.
I am missing some lights on the plane, so sad.
Me too :(.... I'll have to add them, but not sure when I'll do it. I want to do it very nice on this plane, since it's such a beauty!
What charger are you using to charger your bigger batteries like your 6s? I left the hobby awhile ago and have returned. Bought myself this carbon cub but need a good charger for the money!

Im impressed, alot of guys are flying elctric planes, at the cub i fly at im im going to have to try one soon, wow 30 mins is impressive,🤟
Just give it a shot, I bet you'll enjoy it!
Hi
Great video as always Brian, thanks for sharing👍🏼👍🏼
You're welcome! Thanks for stopping by Jeff!
If you had to choose, would you buy this Cub or the Eflite A10? Which one do you enjoy flying more?
Hope these pointers help you make an informed decision that's right for YOU ;)

...is it too much to ask for BOTH??? ;)
Brian Phillips Thank you so much!
You're welcome ;) I know you'll really enjoy either one, and hope you do end up with both at some point!!!
i was under the impression that any puffyness was bad ... and for it to be that inflated after 4 to 6 uses ? .. would you say you are hard on your batteries? Is there a way to prevent this ? I love the cub .. i have been considering buying one for a couple years now .. you're a crazy guy . love your channel
Puffiness is not good. I have run packs that are puffy from early on, and they run just fine, while others have had horror stories of packs catching fire (I've NEVER had this happen, except when I put a nail through them).
You have to use your best judgment.
Hello which one would you say is better Cuba 2.1 are draco 2.0
Draco, but it's more
Why couldn't they build the turbo timber that way for the battery
Agreed! Turbo Timber battery woes are the worst part of that plane, but forgivable since it's such a sweet plane!
Love one... You think worth the money... Deano
YES, but it IS a lot of money. I feel like the only feature that really ought to be included would be nav lights.
Sorry cub 2.1 are draco 2.0 which is your best choice?
Definitely Draco, but the Draco is a LOT more money, so it's kinda the obvious choice. The Carbon Z Cub SS is amazing too!!!
An amazing plane. Maybe someday I will fly like that.
Pozdrawiam
You can do it!!!
I can't decide between this one and the Timber X for my next plane. I already have the Timber Turbo and ParkZone Carbon Cub, but this one is so damn beautiful! The way it slows down is mesmerizing. And the size is very inviting for those gusty days
This plane will fly in horrific conditions, but it's kinda HUGE, so even walking out of our house, with 8 foot front door is a bit of a chore - LOL!!!
Hi,
I’m just getting into RC planes I’ve only flown RC helis for the last few years.
@@BrianPhillipsRC umx timber. Great recommendation. Have a few myself to. Best flying plane ever
I think the DXE transmitter works for both
This just looks like a great and inexpensive FPV setup images.app.goo.gl/bQGhrLq4jcRPxhCT7
Oh man I thought you lost it at about the 14 1/2 minute mark. Okay I’m breathing better now and onto the rest of the video.
Yes, so did I!!! It was a butt-clencher!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC -- now that's funny. I feel like even if you would have lost it into the ground there, the damage would have been nominal....busted prop and maybe some landing gear headaches , but then again, maybe she's a heavy beast and would have tore a hole in the ground....
...straight to China - It wanted to go home ;) LOL
Hi
Yep, a few "mistakes" higher, would have been nice ;) LOL
im new to this RC plane thing whats isolation
Oscillation is where the plane wiggles as the stabilizer is over correcting to one degree or the other. Alternatively, I might have been referring to the vibration from the prop in this video? This was caused by a slightly out of balance prop. Easy fix ;)

@@BrianPhillipsRC Hovering really low and close to the pilot is another deal though
Hey Brian I have a quick question? I have a Carbon Z cub as well but I kinda bent the rudder not having my glasses on..Can I change out the rudder without damaging the fuselage?
More than likely, but you'll have to be super careful pulling out the old one. Did you go crazy with CA glue?
No I didn't go crazy with the CA, I lightly applied CA to the strips
I bet you can just yank it out. When you go to put it back in, you might have a bit of a gap to fill. You can use a bit of cotton on that part, when you're ready to CA it back in, if it gets really torn up
This in flight simulator 9.5 or any mods for this plane I want one super badly! Thanks for sharing
I don't have any mods, just one repair from when I hit the power lines and kept flying for about 5 more minutes ;) LOL

THIS ONE!!! I haven't got the beaver V2, but this plane is AWESOME!!!!!!
Brian Phillips many thanks Brian !
It looks a lot like a Citabria. awesome.
The Carbon Z Cub is similar ;)
Could u add more weight to prevent the ballooning in winds …6s 5000?
Ballooning with Flaps deployed? No, that's corrected by an elevator correction when the flaps are deployed. The plane would just dive if you try to correct this type of issue with a heavier battery, unless your just trying to impact the CG with a bigger pack, rather than moving it, as you can on this model...there's a battery try that lets you put the pack in one of 4-5 positions (Can't remember off hand how many)
@@BrianPhillipsRC yea I seen where u said it might balloon on flaps and to be ready …my fisher would do that and finally got elevator where I want it
How is it to transport in the car? Easy to pull of the wing?
Yeah! The wings both come off, and the struts can be very easily tool-less-ly-removed.....a new "word"...BUT the plane is STILL BIG!!!
The horizontal stab can also be removed, but I think it's the least important item to remove.
Ok. Thank you. Considering buying it but i have a spaceproblem with my car. 🇳🇴
Nice review of both plane and battery's. You flying was great! Love. the tight low turns. Makes me think I need this airplane! lol
If you think you do, you DEFINITELY do need it!!!! This plane is great, but it IS big.
Good luck with your decision ;)
Hey Brian, I was wondering how close you are to the wires. Cant tell from the video.
Hi Brian, I really enjoy watching your videos. How is the stock motor and esc holding up?
Totally fine, but I have to admit, I only fly her a few times a month, if that. We're super busy with so many products, that she has a pretty easy life....almost a vacation lifestyle ;)
