Police Caution - What to do?
Advice on police caution from Experts at www.expertanswers.co.uk/
We very often get questions from people who have a Police Caution and they’ve accepted the caution thinking it was an easy way out, only to find out that it causes problems for them later on, perhaps with a job or something like that.
At least all cautions are owned liberally, when in all honesty, they haven’t got a realistic chance of bringing a successful prosecution, and the person intimidated in the Police Station thinks,
“Polie Caution is going to be the soft option”,
So they accept it rather than go to Court.
Later on, they want it removed, and unfortunately there’s actually no process for removing a Police Caution other than complaining to the Chief Constable or and the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
So, if you’re offered a Police Caution and you really don’t’ think that you’ve committed whatever offence it was that you’re being cautioned for, think twice before accepting it.
You may be better off going to Court and pleading not guilty. If you complain to the Chief Constable doesn’t work, you’re faced with an application to Court for Judicial Review. That’s risky, it’s not quick, and it’s not cheap.
So, think twice before accepting a Police Caution, take legal advice.
