I love watching Rybakina. She not only just gets on with it and with no ridiculous loud grunting.

Same. She has a grace on court that makes her very enjoyable to watch compared to some (most?) of the other players, female AND male.

But Iga is the most powerful consistent and rounded game. Basically she's got every weapon in the tennis book and more. It was close.

@@jonfreeman9682 It was close. I feel like Iga goes all-out all the time, where Elena is more strategic in the way she chooses when to push. More of a Djokovic-like percentage tennis approach.

    Swiatek is Earth,
    Rybakina is Water,
    Sabalenka is Fire, and
    Gauff is Air.
These four perfectly represent the four elements.

The fact that Rybakina won Italian open last year, which is a slow clay court similar to RG, and now wins an indoor clay court - mean that she can indeed play on clay despite her earlier successes on fast courts.
    Good analysis Andy!

Elena can play great tennis on any surface. Adapts to it very well. Grass is her favourite surface, should be one of the favourites to win Wimbledon this year

Rybakina is the only player who seems to take the attack to Swiatek and more often than not, comes out with a win

Andy touched on the factors (temperament, crosscourt forehand) that make Elena such a tough matchup for Iga, but I'd love to hear that expanded on further. For example, Iga's M.O. is to completely bulldoze/smother her opponent. What about Elena makes that so hard for her to do? What other shots does Elena have that pose a problem for Iga? How does Elena neutralize Iga's weapons? Def. seem like Elena has gotten into Iga's head when they play each other; maybe that's the biggest factor...

Oooh, first. Anyhow. I think that this is the great thing about the women's game at the moment - it is so variable depending on surface and who is on form. Sure Iga is No.1 but she got that ranking right at the end of last year during Tour Finals. Saba, Vonda, Iga, Ryba, Gauff are all immediately vying for tournament wins. Then you have Osaka, Jabeur, Kosti, Andreeva chomping at the bit. Then you have Collins swinging like there's no tomorrow, Azarenka showing that she's still got game and so on and so on.
After people like Serena dominating pretty much everything, it's great to see such variety now...

Absolutely. I love the depth of the women’s game and all the different styles and variables.

Thanks for your covering of WTA..
Firstly, could relate to your experience of playing Federer and Nadal..in my playing as a hobby player locally, can see that against some players there is a confidence,as you said, not that I can win,but that this tactic works against this person and if it works, there is a good chance..
Secondly, wanted to comment on point: rybakina vs iga in Rome last year, though rybakina won the match: iga retired in the third set due to thigh issues, which she sustained during the tie break in the second set..and in the first set she played good 6-2 and though some were close games and had a break in the second...
Secondly relating to Rafa vs delpo, clearly hard hitting against Rafa especially on fast surfaces works and delpo did this clearly...though in the 2009 US open semis: Rafa was clearly injured: abdomen injury....I looked upon their head to head and delpo has defeated Rafa on fast surfaces in 2009 Miami,Canada and 2013 Shanghai and offcourse the Olympics.

I think this is largely a testament to the depth in womens tennis, particularly on this surface right now. Iga, as dominant as she is, has had her share of wild losses but so has everyone else in the top 5. That said, I said at the beginning of the year that the WTA clay season is going to be lit. You got Coco, Rybakina, Swiatek, Sabalenka (all of whom can play on clay). Former RG winners: Halep, Ostapenko, Krejikcova Former RG finalists: Stephens, Vondrousova, Kenin, and then a whole other level of up and comers and older clay specialists, not to mention lower tier French, Italian, Spanish, Czech players who consistently excel on this surface. I honestly think that this is the year that we have a non-Swiatek French Open Champion and there will be a bunch of wild matches on the women's side of the draw.

    • @jonfreeman9682
      @jonfreeman9682 Месяц назад

Well the top 5 are all nearly as good but Iga is the most consistent.

Iga's game suits Elena down to the ground. Feels comfortable playing her, that's why she has a good record against her

Iga didn't win for the third time in a row in Stuttgart and it's SOOOOOO WEIRD. This year Iga won for the third time in a row in Doha, so why didn't she do it in Stutgart. It's SOOOOO WEIRD. Of course, Serena always won everything, but she never won more than 60 matches two years in a row like Iga. In fact, Serena has won more than 60 matches in a season only once in 2013.

Not weird at all! You can overanalyze it untell the cows come home but simply stated, like Rafa became a better player on grass so too has Rybakina improved on clay.
