    The way Roger immediately posted Rafa’s Laver Cup confirmation on his IG, I have a feeling he will be involved in some way in the farewell - either directly or indirectly

      It's already going to happen at the Olympics, so I have a tendency to think that it'll actually be someone else that plays with him at Laver Cup.

      There is nothing in tennis, nor ever has been, like Fed and Nadal. Djoke and Nadal may have played more matches but that is totally insignificant to the fact, and everybody knows it, that there's a nearly tangible specialness watching Fed and Nadal play each other that ONLY happens when they play together. Nothing draws the excitement, awe and wonder like Fed and Nadal.

  • @GlennSyndallius

    Ah this is the ultimate wishlist for sooooo many tennis fans - Rafa playing Laver Cup last time... WITH Roger?!!?!?!? And as Andy says - don't announce it, just have the two of them walk out there?? The roof would blow off the place!
    The only reason why I'm leaning towards "it probably won't happen" is.. Roger's last appearance was Roger's last appearance. That was his retirement. He had the peRFect ending (see what I did there).
    But... I can 100% see Roger rocking up for this. I think it's VERY likely that he'll at least be out on the practice court hitting with Rafa, or in the stands watching.
    But in terms of Rafa's final match.. what about Murray? It's his last year as well - give him a sendoff too!

    still so much uncertainties, many things could happen with Rafa, if Rafa somehow wins in Paris, I won't be surprised he will play Paris next year, next year he will be 38 , if he recovers and gets healthy again, I think he will want to play in Paris again.

      You are delusional at this point hoping he would win paris. He cannot play Best Of 5. Look at his Body. He's Getting better but still miles miles Below the level you would expect him to Win R.G

      @zhanmike3406 Месяц назад

      @@foreverFreak As a huge Rafa fan, nothing wrong with hoping he would win again in Paris, definitely not delusional, is he the heavy favor like he used to be ? Of course not, is he still a contender I think he is, realistically I give him 10 to15% chance assuming he is at least close to 100% physically healthy when it comes to Paris. FYI, he just beat De Minaur in Madrid, tonight he already played lot better than Barcelona. You might be the delusional one to completely rule Rafa out for Paris !

    You think that purely on the level of Fandom, Roger is gonna have Novak play doubles with Rafa? No one wants that in the Roger world. Everyone would want to see Roger and Rafa have a great time on the same side of the next for the next 10 years. They'll bring in 25% more tickets with 50% more price. Roger and Rafa's playing styles, the best Wimby finals match ever (probably) 2008, etc. etc. etc. The 2017 comeback by Roger with the racing black and white stripe killer backhand in AO, where he won... let's be serious.

  • @anneryan2563

    Listening to Rafa's interview in Madrid today he implies if he is not competitive enough to play RG he wont play. There is no way he wants to go back there and compete if he is not capable of lasting 5 sets., Laver cup would be even more interesting if Novak and Andy sign up again too.

    Federer's farewell at Laver Cup has a crucial element neither Roddick or Wertheim mentioned: Laver Cup was HIS creation. It was his idea. He got Tony Godsick to get everyone else on board to make that happen. So Federer saying farewell there makes sense. Nadal is just another player at Laver Cup. He's no different from any of his other teammates. So the idea of that event being his farewell is far-fetched. It's crazy to think Nadal would skip places like Wimbledon and the US Open - where's he won 6 slams between the two tournaments - to play an event where he's just one of many invited guests.

    Sorry, Mr. Wertheim, but even if Rafa plays at The French Open and loses a lopsided match... he will NOT be humiliated.
    It will merely be him taking the court one last time there to say goodbye to the great fans who have witnessed his greatness for so long.
    That was a really bad use of words by someone who is supposed to be good at using words.
