      Exactly! First off: don't volley back at Nadal. Always hit away from him. How about some timely drop shots. DON'T hit to his backhand.

      @GTS Actually against most guys, Roddick's way was sound, that's why he was in the Quarter finals in the first place. The thing is you just can't go to the net after each point no matter how good you are against Nadal, he will always get some from you(Federer is a prime example), also when Roddick rallied he stayed behind and waited for errors but the only thing he got was forehand winners from Nadal, again this strategy works, just not against Nadal.

    • @brianliu7991
      @brianliu7991 5 лет назад +8

      Trent Timoy You should never volley back at anyone, not just Nadal, unless you’re both at the net and you’re trying to hit your opponent. Always hit away from the player, regardless if you’re playing Nadal, Federer, McEnroe, Rod Laver, or any other opponent in the history of tennis. Also don’t hit to Nadal’s forehand either, both his ground strokes are deadly. You’re advice is kinda obvious and doesn’t need to be said

    Roddick's baseline game actually deteriorated post 2005, after which he was seemingly incapable of hitting clean winners off the ground and his forehand, which was probably one of the biggest in the early 2000's, lost a lot of depth and potency. He became so serve-dependent throughout the latter part of his career, and led to maulings like this against elite players who could completely expose his harmlesslness off the ground and lack of any real variety.

    • @brandnew9834

      Power doesn’t just happen. A player can lose pace. Roddick was a very physical player and he was a pretty big guy. 200 pounds running on hard courts for 12 years takes its toll.

      Well spoted I'm a huge tennis fan and it seemed to me the non stop beat downs from Federer knocked the belief and confidence out of Andy ,in the clutch moments he didn't believe he could beat these guys and crucially his game never developed after that 2005 period you mentioned.

      @Rebeca Linares You are right. Roddick was not the same player in 2004 at age 22 than in 2003 at age 21. The only reason why he stopped winning Slams is because of his supposed change in the forehand shot. The arrival of real competition (Federer and Nadal) had nothing to do with his lack of success.

    I always rooted for Roddick, but it was so tough to watch him with his lackluster approach shots so he got burned over and over at the net. He never seemed to have a plan B either. Approaches should be deep, and if you hit an angle on them then really make your opponent stretch to not leave the court open. Players like Nadal love a target so you need to hit good approach shots against them, especially when you are not comfortable at the net, like Roddick. Roddick was always a very weak volleyer. Can see a lot of examples here where he failed to put volleys away or missed ones he shouldn't.
