The line between horror and fustration can be very, very thin. A fustrated player is not scared.
Which is why those nice instructions that tell you how things work exist and tutorial, so if you get frustrated it is almost entirely on the player's fault.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 I wish we could blame the player every time but this is not as simple as "read the tutorial". Indie games often try to spice things up with interesting gameplay mechanics or storytelling elements that wind up more fustrating than scary or interesting even when the player is fully aware what to do.
In fact, you can flush a tutorial down the drain if its not communicated well. In fact, in horror games, simply having to look at a tutorial because the gameplay fails to teach you what to do can kill the atmosphere. Thats why the line is thin.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 Read the tutorial text and still had no idea how it translates to the gameplay, so the tutorial text is kinda meaningless. If you need to supplement the text with a gameplay tutorial, then you just should rework the tutorial entirely to remove the option that leaves a player confused. The game says that doing the tutorial "spoils the puzzle", but you should really teach players how to complete the puzzle before giving them a puzzle.
Games should teach you how to play in a way that doesn't make you feel confused. Like building blocks, you stack the mechanics up one at a time. Here, you're just thrown into what is an unintuitive boss fight, essentially.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 a good game should always be easily understandable even if the player skips the entire tutorial, unless your game is super complex like Dwarf Fortress or something a tutorial should always be OPTIONAL and the game should teach you how to play via gameplay.
there's expections to this (like the prementioned dwarf fortress) but that's the thing, those are EXPECTIONS paticularly complex games that are pratically impossible without some tutorial aren't the norm.
Nah most horror games were pretty chill just terrifying like the amnesia series, (except bunker thats hard as shit)

I think it’s because he doesn’t edit his videos as heavily as other RUclipsrs, most RUclipsrs get a lot of footage but then they compress it with editing and making it way faster paced
I do like the librarian way better than other RUclipsrs though

I used to have an imaginary friend called Pirate, very generic yes but I think I watched Pirates of the Caribbean and went "wow how cool would it be to have a pirate as a friend" which then coupled with the fact that my school's playground had a big wooden seating area shaped like a boat, so I'd run around pretending to be a pirate on a pirate boat with my pirate friend Pirate who's a pirate based off a possibly pirated copy of Pirates of the Caribbean

This is the first channel where I can legit not understand how there is an hour+ long video every day with this kind of quality.
Imagine bring the investigator in the current generation and the kids' imaginary friends are characters from games and movies like Goku, Doomguy, Darth Vader, Venom, Superman, Saitama etc etc.

my grandmother also had a cat named pookie, he was a very old cat, and not imposing. when I was little he was already in his mid or late teens and I think he lived to about 20 or 20 something before he went out into the woods to die of his own volition. his counterpart, kittie, spent all of her time on one corner of the couch curled up on a blanket and as far as I remember she died of natural causes at about 22
i highly suggest playing imaginary friend asylums demo as its a prequel and shows a little back story to the imaginary friends!

It isn't as particular with your timing or linear path, it is the same issue you had with every single minigame.
You're not grasping what is happening and trying to do what you want ignoring what the game said to you. For example in the first game you said throwing the object in the vent seems impossible. It shows that on the tutorial note. Same with the climbing on the curtain thing.
The game outright says the guy is relying on sound. So it is about when you make sounds not a path you take. You got into a linear path as the "right" path which started to drive your negative experience. Instead you're relying on vision for some of your decisions not sound. You only have to throw the rock when he gets to a certain point.

The cut-scenes from this game remind me of Xbox Original/Early 360 horror game graphics.
I love this game but I won’t lie, the designs look like they came straight out of Nostalgia Critic’s The Wall video lmfao
It's like FNAF but with minigames...I totally agree with Librarian here, the things you have to do are not very intuitive (though Tutorial mode is here for that, but then it removes the surprise factor) and seem to require really odd timing.
I loved the cutscenes, much less the gameplay, but I liked the whole thing

This kind of...isnt great. The tutorial is basically the exact same thing as the actual level, which are easy and might as well be a clip from some movie that nobody cares about.

Fosters home for imaginary friends used to creep me out because of the implications the power like what about that one episode where they met all of those foods kids at the fat camp tramped up that only existed to be eaten like that's just one way someone suffering could manifest I'm sure there's darker ways imaginary friends and nightmares often intersect not everything you manifest is necessarily happy even if your twisted mind thinks it is at the time imaginary friends are just one step away from a Tulpa and we are all know how easy that can go wrong what happens when your imaginary friend starts eating your school bullies for you then what do you do

I've been watching some of Librarian's past videos and am I going crazy or has his voice changed since last year? I swear it's gotten higher, he sounds a lot deeper in the older content.
Think he got a different mic. Depending on your audio setup different frequencies will be boosted or diminished. Could be EQing some of the frequencies in post to clean up the audio as well.

I wish he'd go back to speaking like he used to. I still find what he says interesting by the cadence sounds is like he's uptalking or even like, baby talking to us at times so it's harder to get through a video.

The final puzzle is a lot more forgiving then it looks, the gate can be fully closed at any point during the dashing animation and seems to have a grace period where the entire bar doesn't need to be filled.
