Something I'm glad you've been commenting on in other videos is the use of notes to deliver exposition in a horror game, which is something of a peeve of mine and I've so far avoided using them entirely (although they ofc have their place in storytelling). The gist of it is that the bulk of the story is ideally told through the environment. The Gap's story is fairly dense considering the scope of the project, and I've probably thought way too long about it. The fun anyway, is having people figure out the details for themselves. The name itself is a clue that adds context to the rest of the story. Glad you've enjoyed it, I'm dying at the jumpscare reactions lol
Honestly how far you've come as a developer is quite inspiring, The Gap compared to Where's Oswald from a feel and technical perspective feels miles better. And the overall scares here are pretty great. A lot of time not giving you jumpscare gratification instead leaving uncertainty and dread and using jumpscares to avoid having so much build up the atmosphere flounders.

One thing I really noticed in the free realm version is the strange dissonance of the architecture, it looks like japanese architecture but also America in some places and really lends to the dreamlike feeling
Something about slow chases really get to me. Combining the panic of being chased with the paranoia of being followed, I guess. Glad to see it utilized here so effectively.
I think the panic of a fast chase is the same as the panic of a quicktime event. You're thinking about what inputs the game wants, and how to execute it properly first go, and how far back you'll be set if you don't get it right. A slow chase can be about the setting and the monster instead.
Very cool to watch an individual dev learn, grow, and try out different ideas. I like to think free roam is canon, and set after the campaign. Before you joined the house, you saw a spooky haunted occult place in the dark. But now, you see the world like she does from the house she was destined to be part of. You see what she got in return for her life, and it's always golden hour and you can go anywhere and find anything.
Thank you kindly. The free roam absolutely is intended as an extension of the main story. The two characters are trapped there forever, but they have found each other.
Hello librarian! Have you ever heard of Yume Nikki? It’s an old rpg maker game that explores a vast world of your own dreams that are without rhyme or reason. It’s more of an experience than an actual game but I truly think you would enjoy exploring it! It WILL take several uploads to truly see everything in this bizarre yet charming game. This game can be comforting at times and downright terrifying at others. And if you do end up trying this game and still want more then I also suggest yume 2kki. Same concept but infinitely larger with dozens of different people making different moody or cozy environments in this adaptation of the regular yume Nikki. Interested? Both of these games are free from last time I checked!
@@thinginground5179 One of the best attributes to my psychology researches is books. Not to mention how it improved my English and imagination. You should try reading one, give it a shot, you've only got one life.
I love librarian’s videos mainly because they are… PERFECT. I’ve been watching his content for a long time. He is by far the most underrated RUclipsr. He is the definition of a LEGEND. He is my favorite RUclipsr because he’s so talented at what he does, he posted almost every day and I normally don’t miss his videos. I normally watch his videos when they come out. Thank You Librarian. From-Box-VR
The familial home torn asunder and left empty of life; no one left to care for it, and no one left to remember the meaning. Left empty but for memories of those passed; those left behind, who are still searching for what they've lost. The corridors once flush with warmth stretch out as a cold, unfeeling maze in the fleeting mind as it takes its last, shallow breath. Sporadic remembrances cling like webs to footsteps in the long-settled dust, twisted and torn to unrecognizable shreds. I agree with the good Librarian's thoughts on this one. I see the house as, if not literally, then a representation of the family house shared by the father and his daughter. The decrepit state of it; the covered easel; the oblique references to death and the afterlife. I think the two graves in the back are especially damning. The father lived in a deep depression after his loss until he finally took his life, which leads into what's shown in the basement: a madly twitching figure before a fall, a kicked over stool, and the vague sight of swinging legs a floor above. Whether the journey through the house was some kind of purgatory or the nonsensical flashes of a dying mind as the life drained out of him is up to further interpretation. It's a classic story that never gets old, and I dearly enjoy interpreting this game's events as such.
You know, when Librarian said "peering ever closer..." I had to go back and check if the window indeed was slowly zooming in. Id did not, but looking at it it really appears to barely noticable loom every larger but never actually doing so. What a cool optical ilusion.
I just realized that the house in this game is the same one from the last lidar game you played and some others but slightly modified, its really weird, like the first time you went upstairs, I fully expected a corridor at each side, but then you turned on the light and half the house was missing lol
Uses the same system of opening/closing doors with the mouse movement as in The Long Drive, it's an interesting way of doing it, I kinda like it, it allows you to open the door to any degree rather than pressing a button and waiting for it to swing out 90 degrees or open into you and get in the way Hope more games adopt this method of doing doors
Oh hey I'm excited to see more from this dev! The other stuff you've covered from them was pretty cool. I love the vibes their games give off. Let's gooo.
Hey! My stairs at home have those exact same railing beams (?) as the ones in this house. As a kid I used to sit on the stairs and hold onto the blocky parts on the bottom while looking down into the living room. It's fun to see them here.
I haven't watched the full thing yet but 20:26 reminds me of PT; -he concete floor where you wake up on and how its animated -a single exit from the room with a light above it - the chair in the corner is similar to and in the same place as the table in pt - you exit into a hallway that once you look down it curves to the left -the figure is not only standing in a light that later goes out like lisa is in one of the first loops in PT but also doing the same / similar pose.
By far not the worst scare Librarian ever had. I think it was scare reel 3 you can find it in. From that one haunted apartment of an architect game. That one sounded like it nearly killed him, litterally.
You probably already have played or know of it, but a very spoopy gmod map was recently relased at the workshop ,gm Liminal Archive Remake. Might even get use of the safety glock.

the gameplay trailer for Alan wake 2 was released not even a week ago! it should be released on October 17!!!! I would love to see you play it! and I am not joking either go watch the trailers!
Hey librarian, are you gonna play the new horror game sequel based off of an egotistical and delirious writer trying to save his wife from his psyche torturing her with her greatest fear?
14:14 Excuse my language but _jesus fucking christ_ I am _sick_ of these garbage clones. PT was like a decade ago devs! I am so sick and tired of the twitchy "Spooky GhooOOOooost" that all look like they're having an endless seizure. For once, just *once*, I'd love nothing more than to see one of these devs do something even _remotely_ original, but nope. Not even half way into the video and already we've got the twitchy ghost (who probably snaps your neck if you get caught because of course) and I guarantee they'll have ripped off something else by the end of the video. Just to be clear, none of this is directed at Librarian. I adore his content and covering so much stuff; I'm just irritated at how repetitive so many of these games end up being.
