Fun fact:Bosnia Serb general, Ratko Mladic hated him.There were a couple of instances where he exepelled him from Bosnia, but Arkan had connections and always came back.

My dad was JNA officer. He says everyone in the federal and regular army hated Arkan. Apparently they were cowards and moved in to loot areas where fighting stopped

Good to move on it reliving the past that often provokes another war such as in Yugoslavia in the 1980s , there is also irony of Yugoslavia violently breaking up and the contemporaneous basically peaceful breakup of the Soviet Union and now Russia and Ukraine had a practical relationship now are at war whereas the relationship between Serbia and Croatia is steady.

There is a story about a similar Serbian gangster who did similar things as Raznatovic in Western Europe. He was extradited to Serbia under a 20 man escort with machineguns and body armour. At the airport waiting for him was a single Serbian detective. He drove him in his personal car to the local police station and interrogations began. He asked the gangster "Why are you tormenting these people like this, why not do that in Serbia?" The response he got was telling of the different mindsets between western and eastern cops. "I do it to them because as soon as we walked in you had a gun under the table and if I tried to do anything you would shoot me and I'd be dead, or worse you would proceed to beat me within an inch of my life for months. While in the west even If a cop has a machinegun he doesn't know how to respond to me attacking him."
