  • Željko Ražnatović known as Arkan (1952-2000) was possibly one of the more ruthless paramilitary commanders in the Yugoslav War. In late 1991 when this short report was filmed, Arkan was portraying himself as the friendly paramilitary. In deference to those who have commented on this video: It is correct. He liked to have others think of him as "dangerous" with his pet mascot tiger as part of the image. His supporters were known to threaten those opposing or "maligning" Arkan. The report betrays an almost too great attempt to be balanced while evidence of Arkan's criminality was well known at the time. Arkan was assassinated in the lobby of the Belgrade Intercontinental Hotel in 2000.
