Film Disription: In a mysterious universe, the Green Lantern Corps, an elite defense force of peace and justice have existed for centuries. Reckless test pilot Hal Jordan acquires superhuman powers when he is chosen by the Ring, the willpower-fed source of power. @@dominusdone5023 The ring has a limited amount of energy. It would very op if it could make an artificial planet or extremely op structures.
This movie had a lot of potential. The main villain should have been Sinestro who would go rouge and turn yellow at the end. The sequel could have been the Green Lantern Corps vs Red Lanterns. It could also introduce the other Corps. The third movie could have been Green Lantern Corps vs Sinestro Corps. The twist could be that there is conflict between Mongul and Sinestro for leadership of the Yellow Lanterns. The fourth installment could be a two part Brightest Day and Blackest Night Event. Throughout the series new Lanterns could be introduced such as Jon Stewart, Guy Gardner, and Kyle Raynor.

Say what you will about the movie as a whole, but I will never get tired of this scene. I love the mechanics and aesthetic they put into the Lantern combat and constructs, and the personalities of Kilowog and Sinestro in particular feel spot-on. A very good scene in an otherwise shaky movie.
NGL the castings were 100% on point. If only the product was as good as the cast

Yellow ring is kinda special i think. While other colors gain power from the wearer's own emotion, the yellow gain fear power from others, especially from their opponents.

Kryptonians are the stupidest species. They get godlike powers under a common type of star, but they don't go near them because that'd be work or something. Then they refused to listen to science and stayed on their planet til it blew up. Real fuckin' geniuses there.

Climate change is widely accepted and many people are making headway against the problem. We've still got too many greedy and/or stupid fucks continuing the damage, but the battle is not lost. Contrast this to Krypton, where the only one who accepts the science is Jor-El. Sometimes Zod depending on who's telling the story. But we're talking one or two people out of the ENTIRE SPECIES.
Kilowog deserves more credit and the whole time I just recognized that sinestro explained yellow lanterns perfectly while training Hal

Green Lantern deserves a remake, and honestly, the movie concept was actually cool.... the ending was really bad though, they threw Parallax... an awesome DC villain... in the trash can
He was simply a means to an end. I mean, seeing Zero Hour adapted onscreen would have been bad-ass. BUT, much like Doomsday in BvS, Parallax only existed in this movie as the set up for the Sinestro Corps.
Itwas the same for Ultron, in Avengers 2. He was basically just there to give us Vision.
I think Had we gotten a sequel, where Hal and Sinestro are forced into being enemies, it would have made more sense.

It was awful when it happened with Ultron and Doomsday (both extremely powerful and dangerous villains) alike. MCU has generally made it a rule to make their villains as disposable and sometimes straight up forgettable as possible and it's not something i'd like to see happen in DCEU.
This movie was a waste of one of the best cinema adaptations of a comic book villain in the history of comic book movies. Im talking about Sinestro of course.

No matter what you think of this movie it was a good live action introduction to Hal Jordan's Green Lantern. Not a perfect movie but you can tell they tried their best to make it enjoyable to the audience. And clearly the next green lantern project will know where they can improve from this one

Honestly, I feel that the casting was spot-on. Mark Strong was one. Michael Clark Duncan (rip) was the perfect Kilowog. Ryan Reynolds was excellent as Hal. Overall the effects were good (If questionable on how they utilized it, i.e. the suit/mask) I feel the only thing that really let the movie down was, sadly, the writing.

Ryan Reynolds nailed his role in this film. He deserves another go at being Hal Jordan. Albeit, with better effects and production
I think it needed better writing, the movie script got changed like 3-4 times officially & swapped out intended directors I believe. Basically there was no consistency in terms of a narrative.
This movie literally made me want to be a Green Lantern.

The worst part is that Hal doesn't get a fair shake in this, every other species knows of the Green Lanterns, so when they get chosen they sort of know what they are getting into. Hal literately gets kidnapped by the ring and dropped into the deep end with concrete loafers and told to swim and then shit on buy those with infinitely more experience. The funny thing is I can see why the vast majority of people in the Universe don't like the Green Lanterns. They are arrogant, prone to violence and don't seem to care about local authority when trying to capture their targets. I get why anyone having any interaction with the Green Lantern core would see them in a negative light. If this is how they treat new recruits imagine how they treat anyone who isn't them.

@@donaldbiden636 No I'm not, the Green Lantern Corp were mostly assholes. They saw most of the universe as criminals and didn't treat most local governments with any kind of respect. Hell Starfire hates the Green Lantern Corp because they allowed her planet of Tamaran to be conquered and did nothing to stop it, so much for not allowing evil to escape their sight. The truth of the matter is that for all that the Green Lantern Corp has done for good they have allowed wars to happen, people to be enslaved and genocides to occur while equipping each Green Lantern with a ring that makes the wielder virtually unstoppable. Each ring can destroy planets and create anything it's wielder wants up to black holes and stars. They act like they are better than the rest of the universe when in reality no one elected the Guardians to create a intergalactic police force nor allowed them to be subject to the rule of the Green Lanterns.

@@rumor-936 almost, the power rings are imagination plus insert emotion of each color. With a green ring your will power determines the strength of your constructs, with a red ring your hate determines the strength. The thing is the rings are limited only by their user. I mean you can travel anywhere in the universe almost instantly by creating a wormhole, hell more experienced users can transport by using a black hole. Hell a green ring allowed Hal Jordan to travel to the 70th century using time travel. Heck it can even create Kryptonite and can emit every kind of energy wave length and radiation that exists in the universe. The power rings are considered the most power weapons created by near immortals in the entire universe. The only weapons considered more powerful are those created by true celestial beings.
I don't care what everyone else says about this movie. I like it and I think it's underrated and over hated.

Mike and Lynn Callahan I’m studying filmography 😂😂 third year actually. It wasn’t a dis or whatever I genuinely think this movie is bad based on the comic books. I don’t think they respected the vibe from it. That’s probably a design choice. The cgi was bad in this movie. The dialogues are not great st all. The movie is a train wreck when it comes to continuity. A lot of things don’t make any sense (him travelling all the way to Neptune then boom asteroids or a belt and then he’s back on the sun. Like they forgot how the planets are placed. Now I don’t know everything about comic books to be fair my favorites were always the green lantern so yeah.. when it comes to literature I wouldn’t say I’m a specialist but I’m passionate about books so here you go

If the whole movie was about Hal being on Oa (and on other planets), trained to be a Green Lantern, and almost no more scenes on Earth, then this movie would have been much better.

@@alienus9092 You would need to know exactly how the minigun and bullets work in order to make and fire them. I am going to give the movie a pass and say Jordan is in the military and probably enjoys learning about firearms, so he knows all of the components that are needed to make the minigun.
I think we are overlooking the fact that Kilowagg just made a star. That one ability would make him one of the most powerful beings in existence. Any enemy you fight you can beat by making a miniature sun right next to them.

I like how in this fight scene this is literally like the first day of training and Hal fights one of the top green lanterns (and loses obviously) and everyone is like “oh my gosh this guy has no place among us”
The ring was supposed to choose someone who was already strong-willed, but Reynold's character was weak-willed. The ring was forced to do that. A typical first day Green Lantern wouldn't fail that hard because he'd have no fear. Like, the ring would choose someone who doesn't falter, like that guy who is anatomically incapable of fear, if it got to have its pick, or someone more like Daredevil or Wolverine. Then of course Hal learns to not be afraid, so it's a character arc fueled by plot devices. What I'm saying is none of the other Green Lanterns would trip and fall and hyperventilate profusely like Hal does.

The green lantern should be the most powerful superhero if the ring is indeed only limited by your imagination. Ex: Imagine a black hole inside the opponent's skull. Game over!
While you have a point the ring won’t allow you to kill others. The only instance of the ring killing anyone were the black metal comics ( the ones with the Batman who laughs). The only reason the ring even allowed Bruce to kill someone was because his “willpower” was really strong. (Reason his will was so strong was I think because he was soo angry/angsty that his “will” overid the rings programming, though this brings up the question of how Bruce didn’t get picked by a red ring instead)

The rings can hurt people, they just can’t kill. Imagine if I hit you with a baseball bat made from the lantern, it wouldn’t kill you, but it would still hurt like hell. Idk if this movie remembers the no lethal force rule or not, but in the comics it’s stated that you cannot kill someone with the ring, only hurt them
@@nono-lz9qr ok so that statement about the ring's limitation is false. It is also limited by these rules. In any case, you can imagine the opponent's central nervous system to be cut off. That will immediately end the fight without any killing.

A great movie, very underrated. very good CGI, very good fight scenes and a very good origin story. I dont care about comics, green lantern became my favorite DC superheroe because of this movie.

This should have honestly been the entire movie. Hal in space, learning how to control his powers, saving alien life, only to accidently release something extremely dangerous which heads towards Earth and he takes it upon himself to correct his error and mistake.

One thing I love about this movie is that there are times that REALLY let you know just how small the human race or earth in general is in a universe like this. When killowog said humans think they're the center of the universe and when sinestro said "a sword? How human." Just goes to show world's bigger than WE humans realize in this universe

Despite what everyone says about this film, for me, Michael Clarke Duncan as Kilowog is something I like out of this, particularlly the character himself.
I have to admit: the psychological pressure here was well done. I've felt great rage and annoyance with Sinestro. And anxiousness.

matt thomas it's because he's the merc with the mouth that we can relate too, it's also because people like cool anti-heroes that can heal quickly and not be able to die, for example wolverine, everybody loves him because he has super regenerate powers which makes him unable to die. We also love deadpool because of the R-rating, if it wasn't for the R-rating then deadpool would not be able to do what it does best, which is KILL, we saw wolverine how without the R-rating in X-men he couldn't really do much but in he movie Logan the R-rating make him look like a badass, people just like deadpool because he kind of has the same issues we have in everyday life problems, (except he's a superhero) and because we all like superheroes that like to slice people apart with their swords.

I will never get over how Hal made a wall without Sinestro even making anything for him to protect from. It also took such a long time for him to kick it that it was almost as if it was waiting in position.

a cgi suit cost quite a lot of money to be used in every scene.
and they had like 200 million USD as a budget for the movie. But they didn't even make twice that to even get a sequel.
All it did was make extra 20million and gain back the 200 million which was used to make the movie.
It didn't get that good of a reception which was why there wasn't a sequel in the first place.

Had this movie been all about OA and Hal being in space, keeping the Earth scenes to a minimum, and not having both the Professor and Parallax thrown there, this could have been a very good movie.
Still to this day, I feel very entertained when watching all the in space scenes.
This clip is surprisingly cool. I’ve never seen the movie cause people hated it but this at least looks cool.
