A fun fact about the Brazilian teams in Libertadores
So far, no Brazilian team was eliminated by a foreign one.
Bragantino (by Botafogo in the 3rd phase)
Palmeiras (by Botafogo in the round of 16)
Grêmio (by Fluminense in the round of 16)
If Flamengo passes to the quarter finals, there will be 3 Brazilian teams in the semifinals.
And another fun fact is it's the first time 3 teams (Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense) of the same city (Rio de Janeiro) got to the quarter-finals.

As a Brazilian and a football lover, I might say that, Brazilian League is more competitive nowadays than it was before, and it's by far more competitive than any other league in the World!
I'm not talking about money itself, but more about the "battle" during all the Championship where, like in recents years, is very well competitive for 90% of the teams. Almost every year the winner is decided on the very last round. And there are at that point, 5 even 7 teams "live" in terms of points to be the champion.
I mean, lets be honest: Ligue 1 at France... Bro ... Just give the trophy to PSG. Spain: Real Madrid , Athletic Madrid or Barcelona. Even in Premier League, with so much money and stars, perhaps 4 or 5 teams can imagine fight for the trophy.
Not only Brazilian League. I think the world should take a better look at leagues in South America as a whole. The Libertadores Cup (the UEFA, here) is a real war among team winners of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguai etc.
Given the due proportions, The Libertadores Cup is so intense as the UEFA and even more due the terrible FIFA calendar wich harms a lot south american teams.
A winner team here play roughly 90 matches per season, against 40? 45 ? In comparison with the european champion.

I’m glad you mentioned the recent match between Botafogo and Palmeiras in the Libertadores. It was indeed the most entertaining game to watch so far, but there are some additional facts that make it even crazier on multiple levels.
Botafogo had an incredibly traumatic 2023 season. By the end of the first half of the league, they were having the best season in Brasileirão history. At one point, they had a 13-point lead over the second-place team. By the end of the 27th round, they still led by 9 points with 11 matches left to play. Statisticians calculated a 90.5% chance that Botafogo would win the league. But that was the last round they won in 2023.
They ended up losing 5 matches and drawing 6 of the remaining games. The most memorable of these was against the runner-up, Palmeiras.
In the 31st round, with a 9-point lead and 8 matches to go, Botafogo faced Palmeiras. By halftime, Botafogo was ahead 3-0, and it seemed like the championship title was secure. But what happened next was truly unbelievable:
    49’ - Endrick scores for Palmeira. 3-1.
    73’ - Botafogo’s CB Adryelson receives a red card.
78’ - Penalty kick awarded to Botafogo.
82’ - Tiquinho Soares, the league’s top scorer, misses the penalty.
    83’ - Endrick scores again. 3-2.
89’ - Palmeiras ties the match.
90’ + 9’ - Palmeiras scores again and the match is over. 4-3
At that point, Botafogo was still six points ahead, but everyone knew what was about to happen.
Botafogo ended the season in 5th place.
Eagle Holding Group bought Botafogo in 2021 when they were in Serie B. The following year, Botafogo won Serie B, and in 2023, they almost won the Brasileirão. This season, they invested more in player acquisitions than any other team in the league’s history and are once again competing for the championship.
Botafogo hasn’t won the league since 1995 and is the only team from the G12 (the main teams from Brazil’s biggest football states) to never win the Copa Libertadores. This year, they are more confident than ever that they can secure a win.
Then who is their opponent for the round of 16? Palmeiras
They found themselves in a similar situation as last year, with Palmeiras scoring a last-minute 4-3, which would have led to penalty kicks. This time, however, the goal was canceled. But we were all thinking the same thing. If the match had another 15 minutes Palmeiras would not even need the penaltys

    • @VictorHammers

7 years ago, Fortaleza was struggling to climb out of Brazil's third division. At that time, the team lacked any organization. However, the current management has done an impeccable job, leading the team to win 3 Copa do Nordeste titles (the biggest regional championship in the country). In the last two years, the team has consistently been among the top in the Brasileirão and even finished as runners-up in the Copa Sudamericana. Traditionally, teams from the Northeast have never been able to compete at a high level against teams from the Southeast, but now, with the acquisition of Bahia by the group that owns Manchester City and Fortaleza’s strong organization, things might start to change. Currently, Fortaleza is leading the championship with one game in hand. Greetings from Brazil and 'É o Laion não tem jeito!'"

Just a tiny correction... If a Brazilian team wins the copa Libertadores, Brasil would have 4 teams and not 5 in the world cup 2025.
South America has 6 spots in total in the world cup 2025, 4 champions of Libertadores of 2021-2024 + 2 by points from FIFA standards that can't be brazilians (limited by other rule)
    Classified in the moment:
    - Flamengo (winner of Libertadores 2021)
    - Palmeiras (winner of Libertadores 2022)
    - Fluminense (winner of Libertadores 2023)
    - Whoever wins the Libertadores 2024
    - River Plate from Argentina (by points)
    - Boca Juniors from Argentina (by points)
*If the Champions of Libertadores 2024 Flamengo, Fluminense or River Plate which are already classified, then it would open another spot by points, classifying Olimpia from Paraguay.

Grêmio has been without a stadium since MAY!!
Porto Alegre (and Grêmio stadium, as well as Internacional's stadium) were flooded for the ENTIRE month of May, because of the most severe flooding in history.
They didn´t only lost their stadiums... Porto Alegre's airport was also flooded! It will only re-open in October! The next airport with capacity for the type of aircraft needed for clubs is Caxias do Sul.
Caxias do Sul, second largest city in the state, is only some 120 km from Porto Alegre, so there never was a big need to improve the airport. FOG is common in the city and there are no equipments for landings in fog.
Plus, the city while not flooded because it's up the mountains, was affected by many landslides in early May. In fact, a lot of the state had roads destroyed or blocked because of flooding or landslides, including a lot of Porto Alegre metro area, where several 200 thousand people cities were blocked from each other and from Porto Alegre.
The players themselves had their homes flooded for several weeks.
But the point is... Grêmio had to LEAVE THE STATE. Players, coach, everyone, were living 100% of the time in hotels across the country, using other clubs stadiums to play they their matches, in Curitiba, São Paulo, etc, over 1000 km from Porto Alegre.
While Internacional could return earlier to their stadium, Grêmio's stadium had it's energy substation flooded, so lots of equipments were damaged and had to be IMPORTED, a process that takes time.

It is a spectacle, exciting from beginning to end. Any team can be champion, in the stadium that is always full, a show of fans, unlike other leagues that already know that who will be champion is always only two teams, here in Brazil, not all. There is a chance to be, not to mention the Copa do Brasil, which is a real show. They may not accept it, but there is no better league than the Brazilian Championship, the best league in the world.

Yeah, Fluminense just won the Libertadores Cup last year and got to the relegation zone with the same team and manager, except by the defender Nino, who was sold to Zenit (Russia). But it has some kind of explanation:
1: Germán Cano, awarded last year with the title of "King of America", who scored over 35 goals in the season, got injuried by the massive calendar of south america football, and at this point of the season scored only 4 goals.
2: John Kennedy, who scored the second goal against Boca, turning him into the Fluminense's hero, basically just threw things up and stopped training properly to party, decreasing his performance abruptly.
3: Jhon Arias, one of the most important middlefielders and attackers of Flu was playing the Copa America for Colombia
4: The average age of the team roster was WAY too high. Signing older and veteran players worked for 2023, but really went bad for the next year, as the team didnt have the energy and youth to win the games. At the end of 2023 season, Fluminense, already with a bunch of old players, just signed 3 or 4 more veterans.
5: Probably the main reason of all this situation was the own manager Fernando Diniz, that won the Libertadores and Recopa with Flu. The problem is that Diniz is a genius, but his ego always talks louder. The team was in a horrible situation, already in the bottom of the league by more than 9 points, and Diniz continued to play in the same, old well-known by every opponent team tactic and insisted on putting players out of their position, like placing Marquinhos, great attacker who came from Arsenal, on the left wing.
All this added up resulted in one of the worst campaigns of a team in Brasileirão since 2003 (and every team that had this bad run was relegated.)
But the good news is that Fluminense is recovering really fast. They changed the manager, for Mano Menezes, who is doing a really good job, signed up with 4 new players, way younger than the past signings, Germán Cano stopped playing for his recovery and is coming back really soon, return of Jhon Arias from Copa América and the return of the MONSTER, Thiago Silva. Since all of this, in the last 7 games, Fluminense won 5 of them and only lose 1, getting out of the relegation zone for the first time since the beggining of the championship.
(Fun fact: since the return of Thiago, Fluminense didn't concede a goal while he was playing.)

The problem with Brazilian Football nowadays is that there are too many championships, and too many games. So what happens is that players get either exhausted or injured during the seasons, and the team becomes weaker, not being able to use their best players in every match. So they end up kinda giving up on some championships and focusing on "more important ones". That explains the weird Fluminense situation, being in the quarter-finals of Libertadores but also being in the relegation zone of Brasileirão.

Corinthians is one of the most favorite teams to get relegated, but this championship is so crazy that it is totally possible for them to get relegated and also win a cup or not been relegated and also win 2 cups.

Fortaleza is doing well for THEIR standards?? They are doing well for anyone's standards, mate. I'm quite sure it cannot get much higher than the first position in a league. Might be wrong.

Fortaleza NEEDS TO WIN a major title. Since their coach (Vojvoda) arrived in 2021, they have only won regional championships.
Until then, the media will look at them as underdogs

I was excited to see him talking about the Leicester-like run Fortaleza is doing in Brasileirão. But all I got as two lines and one is saying the team will flop lol

São Paulo is winning at least one of the two cups. At least. Mark my words.
