I cant remember what I was looking for when I opened up my computer but a Kate Bush ukelele cover of Elton John was definitely 100x better than whatever it was
Kate Bush released a cover of "Rocket Man" in 1991 as part of the Elton John/Bernie Taupin tribute album Two Rooms: Celebrating the Songs of Elton John & Bernie Taupin. Her reggae-inflected version of "Rocket Man" was a commercial success, reaching #12 on the UK singles chart and #2 in Australia 'From the age of 11, Elton John was my biggest hero. I loved his music, had all his albums and I hoped one day I'd play the piano like him (I still do). When I asked to be involved in this project and was given the choice of a track it was like being asked 'would you like to fulfill a dream? would you like to be Rocket Man?'... yes, I would.' - Kate Bush
Its a strange thing about this island we all live on , we produce some of the very finest, musicians , artists and singers, that the world has seen and heard, Kate is one of these .
Finding this clip is like finding my past. I remember the chills I felt the first time I heard her sing. Even though I have all her records, buying my first LP in 1978 at HMV, I still listen to them as if it’s the first time. Just Amazing ❤
One of her loveliest vocals. I love her style in this performance - so classy. She could teach today's acts a thing or two about keeping your dignity along with your talent.
I just came to know that the empty chair, the guitar, the candle, and the cross-faded footage of Alan Murphy (Level 42) playing in the closing choruses is a Kate Bush tribute to him, who worked with her (several albums) and died back in 1989 of AIDS. Kate pays tribute to where he would be standing playing his guitar if alive. What a good heart. Love U, Kate. xxx ❤❤❤
How many pop stars can go on stage dressed like Alexis Carrington, with a ukelele, do an Elton John cover and make it look like she invented all three?
Everytime I heard this sing, it makes me cry. I think is about a spirit looking from out there our earth. I think of my mom, missing me a lot, and there again, tears again. I miss her too.
Kate Bush, a great musician and proper person. As in the official video, she has a guitar placed on a chair to remember and honour the late great Alan Murphy (Level 42), who would have been with them but had sadly passed away. In the official video, she had clips of him cross faded in too
On top of Kate being jaw dropping as always. Respect for all the musicans she has had past and present. The way the bass drum and bass fuse and the sparseness and space involved in this version takes alot of feel and raw talant.
Well, Elton John isn't specially "anything" !!... But I see what you mean ;) it doesn't even sound like an Elton John's song !!... I'm sixty (not 64 yet!) next november and I love Kate Bush since her first albums when I was 18 !... "Wuthering Hights" and "Babooshka" were urge hits on the radios (and that was it, at the time ! No internet, no i-phones. Weird times !) and his so unic voice captured me. When "The Dreaming" came out, it was an electrochoc ! It still is my favorite Kate's album, and was, along Peter Gabriel, King Crimson and Talking Heads, the soundtrack of my life in the mid 80's... 🎼🎶🎵 But this is a long long time ago ! Anyway, I always have a look if there's something new from this great artist and great woman.

The last song Alan Murphy ever recorded with Kate before his death in October 1989. The official video is poignant with an empty chair where he would have sat, and footage lifted from Take A Look by Level 42 as he was well then. He was brave and dignified, and brilliant to the end.
Una de las grandes voces !!! La descubrí con el tema Cumbres Borrascosas !!!! Y no la dejé nunca !!! Hoy tengo 61años igual q ella !!! Genia total !!!! Saludos desde Argentina
Got to see her luve front row with missus. When she lept off stage she brushed my wife's arm. Most amazing night at the Hammersmith. Still talk about it. It was magical. So so lucky. Been a fan since 1984.
I'm so lucky to have lived in the era that has had so many one off talented people. One of them being Kate bush, she just is simply out of this world with everything she has ever done. Stage presence, musical ability, drama and of course her totally unique gifted voice. She could make any mundane tune sound melodic, and in her heyday, she was definitely up there with the sexiest women. Britain should be proud of her, as she is without doubt, one of the finest female artists we have ever produced. Never in the limelight, and very private, but still such a huge star. Respect to her.👍😎
This popped up in my feed ive heard this song by other people loads of times but Kate is the first one that made me properly listen to the lyrics so it took a woman to do so
And she's too a writer and a composer; who wrote and sung great songs, in an unic and ambitious style. She's a beautiful chapter of the Popular Modern Music; whatever the name you give it (pop, rock, blues, soul, rap, ska, reggae, etc, etc...) 🎼🎶🎵
The first time I've been ever been able to say this on RUclips. I was in that TV audience in London 1991/2. It wasn't live - KB did the tune twice as the producer felt the accordian player wrapping his arms around didn't work first time, so they did it again getting her back from the Green room for take two. Also on the show Peter Mayle, Arthur Smith. Terry threw jelly babies into the audience, but I guess that was a staple thing for fans. Some of the broadcast camera work went awry later, all a bit messy, but never mind. Noone noticed, and noone mentioned it twenty years later. xx
I do remember something about backing vocals being pre-recorded. Kate's timing and voice sounds different than the CD I have with her cover of this song. Was she actually reduced to lip-syncing?
Kate had always changled contemporary sounds to a new level. My mind is filled with sounds by her that no one challenged our senses since the 90s. What am I am I waiting for,,,,,,?

Has to be one of the best covers I've heard..such an amazing woman!!
Certainly the verses are fabulous...not so much the cod-reggae choruses, though. Sorry.
The reggae beat adds so much to this song. While it's a cover, it's also a whole different version.
Kate did an amazing take on this song. Love it. Never gets old.
Better than the original
God, how I love her.
I'm a simple girl, I see Kate Bush, I press like
Me too! (Well--I'm a simple boy.)

not simple, dumb
One of the very few authentic geniuses of pop music, Kate is the definition of “once off”.

This is one of the few artists of the past 100 years that will allways keep on fascinating in every aspect.
Thank you Kate. After listening to this song for many years this is the first time I could actually make out what the lyrics are.
Kate Bush is the greatest English/Irish pop composer and performer of all time. She is utterly unique. There really isn't anyone out there like her.
