    When you watch as a kid, Scarecrow being in his costume seems contradictory. However, when you get older you realize that the costume actually serves as a psychological security blanket to make Crane feel safer. Just having something to hide himself away with makes him feel the slightest bit of comfort.

    There's a difference between doing your job and abusing your control
    What he forgets is that half of these inmates were once fully functioning people who fell down a wrong path or suffered severe mental health issues but never realized it.
    Harley Quinn, brilliant at what she did and was actually eager to understand the criminal mind. Trying to figure out the joker, but fell prey to his tricks and was mentally snapped. However, its shown in many forms of media that she is still intelligent, but her childish persona often hides that.
    Mad Hatter, was a great tech scientist inventor. As shown by how he used a headpiece to control mice in hopes of further advancing that technology for good. He had a strong love of fantasy literature, in particular alice in wonderland.
    he fell for an amazing young woman whom he felt was underappreciated by her boyfriend. But when he was scared of losing her he lost control and went about the wrong methods.
    Slowly his mind snapped and he could not see the darkness in his methods
    Poison Ivy, an eco warrior and botanist. A lover of plants and a protector of the planet, she wants so badly to preserve species and protect plants. Due to what happened to her she understands plants and what they feel and think. She has a connection to them. In her mind, she is doing what she feels is best for the earth.
    Sure these people are insane and criminals. they have done bad but many of them work on their own moral compass or are unaware of how their actions can be perceived as bad. While this guy clumps them all together as animals.
    he doesn't care how to heal or help them, he cares about adding a new punching bag to the endless zoo of inmates

    • @YuuSainity
      @YuuSainity 10 лет назад +57

      Except that he used inhumane metods to do his jobs. Chaining them down at night, electrifying the doors, taking away their privelages even when they are good, doing things such as holding Scareface over termites... And given his reaction when Harley, Scarecrow and Scarface tells what he has been doing in the following scene as well as just a smile from him keeps them silent - probably a lot more. Yes, the supervillains have all caused a lot of suffering and pain - but there's probably also relatively harmless people at Arkham (given that it IS an Asylum) and not even people like the supervillains should be treated like animals. Bolton does his job, but not in a humane manner - which is why he's the villain here.
      Sorry about this being very long, but I needed to say (well, type) this as your comment has been bothering me. Even before watching the episode I could tell from the way Scarecrow reacted at him that he likely had done some terrible stuff to the inmates, watching it I only got it confirmed.

      Making murderous psychos scared is something that has been coming to them. They deserve every little bit of torture this guy is subjecting them to. Batman is trying to inflict fear in them outside Arkham but he becomes like a challenge for them, a game where there is a boss wearing a bat costume at each of their crime. This guy is actually teaching them fear, making them realise they are not the only ones on top of the food chain. He is teaching them respect for the law in a drastic way, but how can you teach psychos who kill for fun and commit crimes for the hell of it that there are laws that people need to obey so that they can fit in with the society. The guard is showing them how it feels like on the other side - the side of their victims.

    • @YuuSainity
      @YuuSainity 10 лет назад +25

      Andragorans
      While I can say this point of view was not unexpected at all, I completely disagree with you. Yes, they are very dangerous and evil people, but no one deserves to be treated as sub-human. Doing that, making them feel hopeless, powerless etc. is quite possibly capable of making them even more mentally unstable in the long run and that is really not beneficial. On top of that, Bolton here would do the same to innocent people and does it during the episode (as well as attempting to kill Batman for disagreeing with his view on how his prisoners should be treated). Also, an asylum is supposed to help those who are in it to become acceptable people in society - as Arkham already is bad for that overall in structure and all - treating it's inhabitants like sub-human is certainly not helping. And I don't think his treatment was only reserved to the criminals, but even those not in the Rouges Gallery - an asylum of that size won't only hold Batmans enemies.
      What I overall try to get out by this is in the long run Bolton would have done more harm than good, NO ONE - no matter what they have done - deserves being treated as sub-human, and that his treatment would not be limited to the Rouges Gallery. Bolton isn't any better the Rouges as he is willing to torture people.
      So, sorry, but I cannot agree with you in any way. This is my opinion and I did not come here to disguss, merely state my view on the whole thing due to your view being disturbing to me. Some people probably will agree with you though and I can see where you are coming from there, but it feels far too much of an eye-for-an-eye thing and, well... An eye for an eye will make the world blind.

    • @Andragorans
      @Andragorans 10 лет назад +13

      YuuSainity
      Yeah, as if Arkham corrects any of the hard cases such as the Batman's well-known enemies. Arkham maybe corrects the small cases of madness, but the ones we watch like Scarecrow, Joker etc. need a different kind of treatment, a treatment they would understand, a treatment that this guard delivers and it's showing results. Do u hear what Scarecrows says: "I wasn't even going back to crime this time...". There you have it, even a hard case like him admits it. The treatment is working. Let's put this in the real world. Imagine one of these weirdos, the Joker for example, escapes Arkham. He breaks into your parents' house to make a sandwich lets say, and violently murders them for trying to stop him or even maybe just for the laughs while he is eating. After they put the Joker back into Arkham with the sissy guards (because this one is fired) he feels comfy in his own fortress while you are preaching about "An eye for an eye will make the world blind." and the of course - the Joker agrees with you. Then tell me wouldn't you want someone like this guard to "take care" of him daily for the rest of his stay in Arkham.

    • @YuuSainity
      @YuuSainity 10 лет назад +17

      Andragorans
      Well I'd wish him good luck going to Sweden for a sandwitch. Hell of a trip, ain't it?
      As I said, I disagree completely with your view of treating criminals as sub-humans. And I'm not going to try to convince you to see it otherwise. Boltons actions and methods is frowned upon and most likely illegat at least here.
      And I repeat: The other inmates of Arkham would be affected by it too, as I doubt Bolton would treat them any diffrently, making it impossible for them to recover. Also, the actual reason the villains both are incureable and escapes all the time is it wouldn't be much of a story otherwise, really. Several (including the Scarecrow) has almost reformed at times - to be thrown back due to an incident or another. I may be cynical at a regular basis and be a borderline misanthrope, I at least have a sence of human decency. And, allow me to be blunt, scare tactics function for a time but it can as quickly lose effectivity or someone can kill the person who uses them or they can end up in an accident- And then the rouges will have less mental stability than ever and he won't be there - and in a place like Gotham, well... Plus some of them would likely outlive him in terms of age as well.
      But asylums, even a near worthless one like Arkham, is to help people, and attempt so even if the cases are hopeless. Not make it worse.

    I love Lock-Up but it was really the Lyle scenes that sold me on this character (talking about this and the conference scene).
    I genuinely think his character has waaaaay more longevity as Lyle Bolton than he does as Lock-Up, only way I see Lock-Up working is if they make it so that the public aren’t aware that Lyle is Lock-Up (which would be another neat way to mirror him and Batman). He can add some life into the staff of Arkham too, you can even keep Aaron Cash around as well if there are any die hard fans of him out there. Just be creative on the differences of their views of the patients.
    A really solid and simple character who can represent people’s fear and hatred towards convicts and the mentally ill and a system that isn’t built to rehabilitate them, just keep them locked up.
    It’s great, he’s a perfectly despicable character and will forever be my favourite Batman villain to write for.
    If only he caught on in the comics enough to be at least a C list rogue.

    A lot of people are saying that the cop dude was right in his argument but I completely disagree, the people put in arkham aren't just put in for their crimes but because they are mentally unstable. If they were supposed to be tortured they would have given them death row or life in prison but because its not in their control they get sent to an asylum where they get help they need. The only thing I agree with is that the police should keep better guard and they should update the asylum if the inmates keep escaping.

    I'm sorry and just an opinion but I don't really think Lyle Bolton is kind of wrong for what he is doing and I get his way is not "reforming," criminals and is very violent.. but can these criminals really even be reformed and even if so, is the countless of murders they committed even forgivable. That's why I'm on a grayscale with he is doing because he's not too in the wrong.
    Like these villains with batman, honestly don't suffer enough. They literally play with batman like a game and the fact that scarecrow legit admitted he'd never commit crime again.. and I get they have a sad backstory but still they commit crimes, not one or two or three but many countless of murders and twisted crimes.
    Harley Quinn herself is the biggest example for me because I get she was in an abusive relationship but I will never feel that much bad for her because of the countless people she brutally murdered. Like yeah, she had a tough relationship but like she still killed children, women and recieves some sympathy act. So maybe fear is the answer to keep them from committing these crimes. I'm not mad at Bolton for giving them hell.. I'm just not, lmfao

    This episode makes it clear that this guy is making the criminals and crazies *worse.* I admit Arkham is cartoonishly easy to get out of, but the position of this Batman show is that criminal justice needs to be more about rehabilitation than punishment. Arkham's ineffectiveness is more an issue of "well, if we locked everyone up forever we'd have no show."

    @BlackMaskStudios I think Bolton represents a danger Batman faces. Batman admits that he is trapped in a cycle (in Arkham City video game). The bad guys break out. Batman stops them and locks them up. Only for them to escape and the cycle continues starts all over again. He could become Bolton and make sure they never get out. But in order to do so, he'd have to deny them their humanity. That's why he doesn't kill, because he can but if he does, he'd become like them.

    Well, but he actually sprays the toxin. In the first episode of the animated series he appeares in, he sprays a guard through the tip of his fingers, so I guess he keeps a container somewhere in his sleeve. The Scarecrow always has a different types of the toxin, gas, powder, or even a liquid form he injects in his victims, but I never heard about him having the toxin in his suit. Since the costume is mostly made out of cloth that would mean that he would get affected by the toxin too.
