I'm sorry, but any time someone says, "Well it actually sounds good if you use it with this other product made by the same company," I'm immediately out. An SM58 sounds great no matter what I plug it in to, so why in the hell would I buy a $100 mic that's so limited? All this corporate eco-system nonsense can F-off.
I admire your restraint, after the 2nd re-boot that thing would have flown out the window (and it is 6 floors down). There also is no excuse for high latency these days, chips are just so damn fast. Thanks.
@elgato missed the opportunity to integrate a much better interface than the elgato XLR into the Stream Deck +. It should AT LEAST have had balanced 6,35 mm monitor outs to the back and one or two full size 6,35 mm headphone outs to the side(s). DSP functionality similar to Lewitt's Connect 2 and 6 would have been necessary to be on par with other modern interfaces.
Thanks so much for sharing this video. i'm currently looking to getting an audio interface to use with my Mac and I was about to pull the trigger on an Elgato Wave XLR but after watching your video, I think I'll go with a Focusrite Scarlet or something instead!

Oof that's painfull to hear. I wanted to buy this product to switch from usb mics to XLR. What good alternatives are there then where you also have hardware-based ways to change volume or mixes?
I know...maddening that they stripped it down for the "essentials" but didnt even upgrade the hardware. In fact...they downgraded it. I mean...2024 and all no?
I'm right along with you on the latency issues in wave link and I've had many other weird issues with wave link because of how they process shit (get weird crackling audio like it's sitting next to a high voltage line), the limitation to 48KhZ is also causing problems with my set up for some reason. All of it tracing back to Elgato Wave Link. However the utility of Wave Link and how it interfaces with everything I do (streaming, recording tutorials, using social media like discord etc) and utilizes the Streamdeck is making it very difficult to find an alternative. I'm glad you did a review of this because now I know not to recommend the XLR dock for Mac users when trying to help people. I do understand that Mac is not a priority since 99% of their customer base is using windows on their machines (they do pander to the streamer market mostly and for that market Mac is such a tiny part that it's barely worth mentioning) but still the lack of transparency there is horrendous.
I myself have had my share of frustrations during my long use of WaveLink on the Mac. But I don't agree with the argument that there are too few users on the Mac for Elgato to make this their priority... If the brand isn't interested in offering functional software on the Mac, why do they? At least, TC Helicon, Razer and SteelSeries offer no Mac software support for their equipment. So we know there's no point in looking there. It's annoying but there's a logic. It's consistent. But since Elgato offers macOS-compatible softwares, doesn't it make sense to wait that they work properly? So, no, it's not right that Elgato doesn't do more to satisfy Mac users.
if you haven’t tried it, try the VAIO update on voicemeeter, you have to pay i think, but i’m getting no audio crackling with 64 buffer 48khz and it’s been stable for months low latency, this is with the ssl 2 for asio.

Well, I guess I managed to dodge a bullet there, when they decided to cancel my order... not once, not twice, but three times for bogus claims of "billing address does not match credit card address, "credit card address does not match country of origin of purchase," and "your address matches the address of a freight forwarder." Dude. That was my home address...? The only thing I can think of is this funny story of how my dad ordered a bunch of gifts for relatives on sale once and somehow the company he was ordering from decided to constantly cancel the orders so he had to go in and dispute it just to get his order through Only way I can spin this positively on their part is "oh, we're cracking down on scalpers" -- except they aren't. Profit margins would still be garbage. I'm not allowed to get my maybe $30 discount on the entire set...? Guess they don't want business, so I'm not giving them any. Seems I've found a better alternative anyway, even if it might be a bit more expensive. Good riddance.
Not surprised at all... I have the Wave XLR and I hate having to redo my whole OBS setup whenever I update wave link. I think that the dock version came out to late to be relevant to me and I feel like all the stream decks should be daisy chainable within reason. To me Elgato is doing the bare minimum, even going as far as making toys with the Neo products for whether reason.... Oh and the Mac thing is bad, so bad! I'm a mainly PC guy but I do use Linux and a Mac sometimes and support for other OSes is something I care about but sadly they only pretend to care sometimes... Wouldn't be surprised if they dropped Mac support soon.
I don't begrudge anyone liking a certain setup. Stuff like this isn't more to call out companies to make solutions that just work. Not just "good enough"
I'm more confused as to why u didn't solely just buy a 4K X and do nothing else. The Rode X can still be used for sending a camera through, whereas the 4K X can be used for sending consoles through. Or vice versa if u have a 4K 30/60 FPS camera and something like a Series S or Nintendo Switch or PS5 Slim which primarily doesn't need footage of higher than 1080p60
Perhaps I assume too much...however the name of the product is in the title... Pretty quick search to figure it out. Si if I buy a streamer deck and a Lewitt connect 2, I can plug my mic into the lewitt and do the tweaking in wave link??
No...you would use the Lewitt software to put dsp on the mic

I have a feeling Rode will be the first to allow VST on their units with DSP
My fingers are crossed there.
If they can do it with decent latency they will blow everyone else out of the water...
Rode should implement VSTs on the RCP 2/Duo - that would be epic!
