7:55; hiss-ter-ree-sis, generally speaking in the electronics realm, it's an additional trigger or threshold point for a value setting. At my work we have hysteresis settings for alarms on equipment. As an example, if a water pump alarms for low pressure at say 2psi, and the nominal pressure is 5psi, the hysteresis for the low pressure alarm would be set at +3psi making the alarm auto clear when the pressure gets back above 5psi. For a high pressure alarm, the hysteresis would be a negative value to clear the alarm for when the pressure goes back down to the nominal operating band. From a quick search it looks like it's similar for noise gates. Have a -10db gate setting, hysteresis of -5db, you hit -10db and gate opens, with the hysteresis the gate doesn't close until you reach -15db preventing the gate from flickering.

While I am mainly using it for streaming, one of the main things I love about the rodecaster duo is that I can take it with me (without needing to bring a laptop) and do interviews or podcasts. It just saves directly on to an sd card (or my phone but I've never used that yet) and I can transfer it to my PC when I am home,
The Duo has been my best tech purchase in a long time. I ended up putting both XLR ports into use through my desk set-up and now my sim racing rig set-up.
What is the mic setup process like compared to the GoXLR? I've been considering changing from the GoXLR to the Duo but what's holding me back is that I have my mic sounding exactly how I want in the GoXLR software, and I'm concerned about not being able to replicate that with the Rode

I just bought the RCP2 because my friend has a podcast where he often has 2 or 3 guests that I help out with. It's really nice that I can use it if I ever get into streaming now as well. Even if it is overkill, I can see what I like/need and have a good downgrade path, lol

The Backtrack is such a monster tool, one button and my stream can still hear music while i can talk to each other and but also hearing whats going on on the stream. The 2 USBs make it also so powerful for me, had sooo many problems in my 2 pc setup with mixing different devices for inputs and outputs, a lot of noises and more. Plugged in the Rodecaster Pro II, startet it, clean and nice signals everywhere. So many software issues with GoXLR in the past, so many customers on my list which thrown the GoXLR back to the reseller dealing with so many troubles...
I dumped my GoXLR a few months back (I had it since 2019/2020) for the Rodecaster Duo. No regrets. Learning curve is definitely there but once you’ve got it, it exceeds expectations in all categories
Is there a significant upgrade in term of audio quality on your mic with the duo? I am still using my GoXLR and have been contemplating makeing the swtich.
@ I have 300 ohm headphones (660s2) and this device is capable of powering them with ease and room for more volume. It’s also capable of powering a Shure SM7B mic with no cloud lifter. You don’t need to use any kind of software outside of what the device has for voice modifications (what I mean is like software for noise isolation) and much more. The main thing is support. The main team that developed the GoXLR went to Beacn, so the team running it now is trying but the GoXLR may lose support eventually

Hysteresis on a noise gate means that instead of immediately opening the gate the moment you get above the threshold and then immediately close when you are below that threshold, instead once the gate activates it now has the off threshold lower by the hysteresis setting. This prevents constant tripping on and off by needing to get a bit quieter once it is on in order to turn off again. On a gate, I generally like 3-6db setting.
Love the update. Would like to see something like the Streamer X get this update so there's something with Camera In, Mic In, and volume control all in one from Rode that isn't the "Rodecaster Video" with more inputs than most people need.
I highly recommend using Hybrid mp4 over mkv. You get separate audio tracks and you don't have as many codec incapabilities and a need to covert after recording like your do with mkv. It also doesn't lose a recording on a crash like normal mp4. It's just better all around.
I love using my Rode Wireless Pro’s with my mic. Helps when the wife or friend is over and we are just chilling across the room while in discord or whatnot. Pretty awesome (recently had my wife playing cod on the couch and me on PC. Brother coming through Discord. I usually use speakers so we were chatting that way and it worked great)
Not sure this was an appropriate work around but I had already had this using 2 usb cables to the same computer, you could go even further using a 3.5mm out of the same pc to an mic input and set it in rodecaster for another channel...I was able to separate my desktop, music or browser, chat, and my mic using the 2 usb method only. I didn't see any YTer ever bring this up. I guess it doesn't really matter anymore now that the virtual channels are there. Great video. Also pretty sure you can have 2 outputs using 2 USB cables to the same PC, but not sure if that integrates with the newish virtual channels.
My rodecaster duo is the best way to enable backseat gaming sessions because we can both use headphones and microphones with zero latency monitoring so nothing super funky happens. Its fantastic
Im so confused. When I go to more sound settings, the device doesnt show up as system, and none of the multitracks show up either. I have restarted my pc, restarted the procaster 2, i have even reset the device. I would love any help, I followed every step in the video

I bought this last year and returned it because I couldn't separate all of my audio. Well, given this new update, I have one being delivered tomorrow. Thanks for the review. Helped with my sticker shock!
apparently, my computer is missing the "Music", "Gaming", "System", etc tracks in sound settings... Only have the "Main Multitrack" and "Chat" sounds listed.... where's the rest?
there is a link in the video description called RODE driver download that takes you to RODE's install instructions they have a driver for the virtual channels there in like the first section named enabling virtual devices
I've had mine for almost a year & I can say 100%. I'm glad I switched from the goxlr. It's great for my dual pc setup. It's a great buy, expensive but worth it if you're serious about your content & can afford the price tag
Setting up the Rodecaster Duo that I changed to after wanting to use 2 mics instead of the 1 mic on my GoXLR took quite a long time, and I kept re-adjusting settings to get the sound I was looking for - but after setting it all up, including the new virtual multi-tracks, I am happy that I purchased it. The sound is better and cleaner on my Shure SM7B, I have excellent control and can make adjustments on the fly while streaming (after also setting up a midi plugin for OBS), and I can personalize what I hear in my headset vs what my wife hears in her headset (we play games together on a single PC). The one thing I wish it did was the hold button record for the touchpads like the GoXLR, but we could get that in a future update who knows. I'd recommend the Rodecaster Duo hands down for a single or dual mic setup for anyone
I've had the rodecaster pro for almost a year and a half now, not because I need it but because I have a problem with buying tech. 😂 If you can stomach the price, it's extremely worth it. Very versatile and stupid reliable. Big fan.
As an audio engineer Non of it is overkill🤣 I would like that hold to record function for the pads though. Would be cool to set some pads to record when holding
yea same here....only thing that's keeping me from buying the rodecaster....i want a button like the goxlr where i can just record and clip something funny someone saying
You don't even need to use the multitrack mode to capture the sources individually. Each of the virtual faders is an output in Windows, so you just make an audio output capture for each one and you're done. The only exception is if you want the mic without effects.
My only issue with this is there is not console connection support. Since the XLR ports are mono you cannot use your console or any line in unless you use two XLR ports. Which means you have to get the Pro II. I mainly stream PC games but still thinking of returing my DUO for the GoXLR for that Line In port. Other than that the DUO is fantastic.
You should have said that it's pre-fader feature and that your fader on your console wont affect that sound volume into OBS. (Unless they changed it but I dont think so)
A very nice overall package. Unfortunately, the quality of the monitor outputs is not very good. I hope this can be fixed with an update. It would also be great to assign key combinations to the pads.
Something not mentioned, and I understand this might not be the majority of viewers, but you can run an instrument or line in to the rodecaster for those who make music in addition to streaming/podcasting
I dumped my Beacn setup about 6 months ago for the rodecaster duo and Shure sm7b. No regrets! I lost one or two features from Beacn and yes it is a way more complex setup, but the software and hardware are rock solid. Beacn was super buggy and crashed all the time for me! Plus there are things the Rode can do that no other device can!
I do some VO recording and have been tinkering with podcast. But in my down time, I wanna be able to consolidate few sources (laptop, PC, and turntable) and switch between two outputs (speaker and headphone) without any hassle. Or idk... maybe I wanna play them all together through one speaker or headphone. Is the Rodecaster Duo the right device for me? Can I just plug the two computers via USB and the turntable to the 6.5mm TRS as an input? Or are there any alternative/cheaper solution?
So even with the software updates installed, this really doesn't do much on Mac, right? I went along with the steps and after selecting "Expanded" I got a message that said "USB1 will feature four additional channels alongside System adn Chat input, when used iwth the Rodecaster Virtual Device Driver". There were no extra inputs that showed up, like in the video. This is a Mac thing and not a Rode thing, I understand....but I was hoping for more than this when I heard that the Mac version was coming. :| I am a beginner and no audio expert so please let me know how you are using this if you are using a Mac.
Great vid and this mixer looks pretty insane. I have a question, i would like to use my speakers / headset on all my devices (pc, ps5; Xbox series x) is this possible with a specific product? Could use the help
4:58 Do you have a video on a proper Rodecaster setup? Although mine has worked the way I had, I’m not getting all the drop down and expanded options shown which makes me think my wires are crossed 🥴 all pun
I ran into this same issue. You HAVE to download and install the drivers, not just update rodecentral and the rodecaster. They're listed in the description.
I have both but have had more glitches with these two interfaces than any other I have owned. That said, I have been rocking the beta for this for a while and it's been solid for the most part. Over kill for most people but super useful that's for sure. PC is easy to use; however, I would look elsewhere if you have a mac though.
did they ever fix the issue with connecting it to ps5 an the robot statc noise sound? i ended up buying the streamer x and it works perfect now the duo is up in my studio closet lol
Yeah the NDI feature is pretty sweet. I have the Rode Pro 2 and Duo and am thinking about going to Mackie just for ease of use with NDI. Already use it to get video and game audio to stream PC (M4 Mac Mini).
Ngl at this rate Rode will probably add it in the firmware later on. Not many devices I know of are getting such great updates significantly improving the functionality each iteration. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rode is cooking up NDI support for a future release
I have not gotten this to work yet. Windows 11 won't detect the virtual audio cards from the RodeCaster, just the Main Multi track, Secondary and chat. Can't even see them in more sound settings or device manager.
Im not understanding. the rodecaster pro 2 always had 9 channels with 6 physical faders and three virtual. do these "new" virtual channels expand it to more than 9 channels?
My GoXLR has been kinda wonky recently. I've been waiting for these features to hit the ProCaster so now I'm 💔. IDK which one to choose! I do want to give the ProCaster a shot tho. Thanks for the vid!
Unless i missed it in the initial review of the audio mixer, the one thing that XLR just added a gew months back and one thing the Beacn already had is the the ability to separate audio volume between headphone volume and stream volume. Like i said unless i missed something fron the initial review and it can do this, imma stick with my XLR for now.
Hi There. Great video. Ima nub so I have a question. I am looking to set up a simple livestream for my church. I am going to have a wireles mic (shure) 2 concensor mics and 2 alto speakers. Would this work for me?
I have a Rodecaster Pro 2. Switched to the Beacn Studio and Mix Create due to no VOD track, sadly. That's the one thing it's missing, and who knows how long that will take to add.
Chrome doesn't seem to pay well with this new update which is mega unfortunate. Basically it's not possible to get it to come through on the main channel. if you learn any solutions to this please lmk.
I'm just curious about if I use wireless headphones, let's say turtle beach stealth 700, can I channel all the audio including mic monitoring through those headphones like you can with the becn products.
I have the PROII and got one of the first run units (pre-ordered) and I can't complain about it BUT I wish it was powered via wall socket/wall wart instead of usb-c. If I had to recommend for new folks I'd tell them to save a little 👛if they're just livestreaming solo to go with the Streamer X or if they have the extra Bill to spare the Duo. OR get the Tascam Mixcast-4 for the 4 Bills and it's a beast as well.
You know they make usb-c (PD) wall warts, right? Our RCP came with one. Standardized Power Delivery is the way of the future, instead of a bunch of random single-purpose bricks.
@@RobertEmery Yes I do, but if that's what you got out of what I said Thanks but No Thanks. He asked a question and I answered it with what I WOULD ADD. Geez... You know that usb-c wall warts been out for a few years now right? Sounds chitty dont it?
am I the only one that can't figure out how to make the volume on the mixer moving with obs? when I turn the music down on the mixer it stays loud on OBS. oof
Did you add music as a device inside obs or is it a output device from the rodcaster? Sometimes obs doesnt work if you just change a setting and you have to delete the device and re-add it.
I've been using the beta for Rodecaster Pro 2 for a few weeks. Love it and works great.... Only one issue... I hear a "plop" sound so now and then when using a virtual device. When playing Spotify on the Music input it just plops now and then. A bit annoying and don't know how to fix it.
They need to give access to all the track on both PC, if they do that it will be the best device for big content creator espacially gaming creator. I will wait for them to do it before buying the roade caster duo
Great Video! I'm also thinking of buying Maono Pd400x + ame2 interface bundle But not sure what should I do? My main goal is to record live/record over videos ( critic videos/shorts on website redesign/ux issues ) So I'm not sure what should I go with ? A budget friendly bundle , like maono pd400x one Or a high end mic , like shure mv7+ with a chinese / normal interface ? Or a budget friendly mic like PD400x or Podmic with a good interface like 2i2 4th gen ? What r ur suggestions? I'm totally new and have 0 experience, everything I learnt from past few days is from reddit and RUclips 😂
I just got mine and there’s one thing that drives me NUTS. The two dials for output 1 and 2 are both 2 full spins for 0-100 which is small but really annoying. Additionally there’s no quick mute for those outputs despite both dials being clickable. The clicks just don’t do anything.
I almost purchased the larger one back in 2020 when I was converting my setup to Xlr. I picked up the GoXlr instead, but I always wanted this device to evolve into something more than what it was at the time.
@@shoot2loot I don't have the Rodecaster myself, so this is mostly speculative. But since you can seperate audio, I asume you can apply the elgato audio to one of the sliders just like you can with e.g. Spotify. Just select in in the volumemixer.
@@drtraxis Just so you know, every digital audio device that has to make round-trips for processing will have latency. However, each device has a different amount. Most people find certain amounts of latency to be imperceptible, while it can bother others. I have just checked online for the RodeCaster Pro II and someone has measured the latency at 6-8ms. Apparently the first ProCaster had slightly better latency at 3ms.
I checked that i had the right firmware and rode caster app, all set. And I see the different things, like Audio & Chat in the display, but there is NO Audio Device for example is "Rodecaster Music" in my possible audio devices. Some is wrong here. As for regular settings (before I did what you said one had to do to enanble this feature!), when I run an app like my Music Player on the PC, it runs fine. When I do use my browser, Chrome in this case, as soon as I set things up the way you say one must here, i have no audio anymore in my browser. What the ***** is going on ... :(
Nothing works anymore. I turned multitrack off again, just in the hopes to at least get where I was before I made the mistake and tried this. And according to the Rode, Multitrack is off again. In Windows Devices it still says Multitrack however. One of my Standard Audio Player apps for MP3 is the only thing that still works, although its audio settings arent more different than the rest. Yet VLC, Media Player Classic etc. all dont have sound, although their audio settings werent changed. This, as much as I hoped that this would work, has f*** up my entire system when it comes to Audio. Just great ! Chrome also has no audio anymore, while for whatever reason, Firefox still plays audio. And all is set to Standard in Audio Settings. All that does not make any sense.
Im having an issue where all the output devices are under input in windows and the input devices are under output in windows.... I hate tech sometimes.
You should never buy a device based on promises of future upgrades.. but.. I gotta hand it to Rode. They've kept their promise.
Sorta. They lied (esp to me personally) on multiple occasions that "it's coming very soon". It took two years.

You don't even need to use the multitrack mode to capture the sources individually. Each of the virtual faders is an output in Windows, so you just make an audio output capture for each one and you're done. The only exception is if you want the mic without effects.
Does it work with the PS5? was the issue fix?
My only issue with this is there is not console connection support. Since the XLR ports are mono you cannot use your console or any line in unless you use two XLR ports. Which means you have to get the Pro II. I mainly stream PC games but still thinking of returing my DUO for the GoXLR for that Line In port. Other than that the DUO is fantastic.
You should have said that it's pre-fader feature and that your fader on your console wont affect that sound volume into OBS. (Unless they changed it but I dont think so)
Can you do a deep dive into setting up multi-track? Seems like something I would love to take advantage of more!
Is there a guide on how to do this on a Macbook? Im not really sure how to do it there.
I'm torn between the rodecaster duo and the elgato stream deck + XLR dock combo. Any advice?
This is what I'm wondering myself.
How do I complete the settings that you demonstrated on PC, but on a Mac instead?
I do some VO recording and have been tinkering with podcast. But in my down time, I wanna be able to consolidate few sources (laptop, PC, and turntable) and switch between two outputs (speaker and headphone) without any hassle. Or idk... maybe I wanna play them all together through one speaker or headphone. Is the Rodecaster Duo the right device for me? Can I just plug the two computers via USB and the turntable to the 6.5mm TRS as an input? Or are there any alternative/cheaper solution?
I'd love to know your thoughts on the Boss Gigcaster sometime Harris
So even with the software updates installed, this really doesn't do much on Mac, right? I went along with the steps and after selecting "Expanded" I got a message that said "USB1 will feature four additional channels alongside System adn Chat input, when used iwth the Rodecaster Virtual Device Driver". There were no extra inputs that showed up, like in the video. This is a Mac thing and not a Rode thing, I understand....but I was hoping for more than this when I heard that the Mac version was coming. :| I am a beginner and no audio expert so please let me know how you are using this if you are using a Mac.
It took them way longer than they claimed it would, but glad to see that it finally happened, even if you dont fully use all of those features.
Few questions:
Can it add effects on virtual sources or any other track that isn't a microphone? Or even a masterbus compressor?
Great vid and this mixer looks pretty insane.
I have a question, i would like to use my speakers / headset on all my devices (pc, ps5; Xbox series x) is this possible with a specific product? Could use the help
4:58 Do you have a video on a proper Rodecaster setup?
Although mine has worked the way I had, I’m not getting all the drop down and expanded options shown which makes me think my wires are crossed 🥴 all pun
Doesnt seem to be working… no additional sound devices are showing up on my PC at all and nothing shows up in OBS
I ran into this same issue. You HAVE to download and install the drivers, not just update rodecentral and the rodecaster. They're listed in the description.
@ yeah i found out through another video. Odd that Harris missed this step.
So no multi track recording on board? You need another software to achieve that ?
so are you telling me if I record with obs seperate audio tracks this is now possible same way as GOXLR?
I have both but have had more glitches with these two interfaces than any other I have owned. That said, I have been rocking the beta for this for a while and it's been solid for the most part. Over kill for most people but super useful that's for sure. PC is easy to use; however, I would look elsewhere if you have a mac though.
I am not getting those options for the music, game etc in my windows sound settings. Any thoughts on why that maybe?
did they ever fix the issue with connecting it to ps5 an the robot statc noise sound? i ended up buying the streamer x and it works perfect now the duo is up in my studio closet lol
Do they have Linux drivers for Rode Caster? I’m on Linux Mint (Ubuntu)
Do you have a tutorial on how to set up rodecaster duo with gaming and getting gameplay audio as well
So tempting... maybe after a few holiday bills are paid off :D
Stiiill waiting for you to take a look at the Mackie DLZ Creator XS ;) Because i still havent heard that the RodeCaster can suppost NDI.
@ I dunno, there hasn’t been any real demand for it on the discord. NDI is pretty niche, especially for audio.
I have not gotten this to work yet. Windows 11 won't detect the virtual audio cards from the RodeCaster, just the Main Multi track, Secondary and chat. Can't even see them in more sound settings or device manager.
Alright, I NEED to know what drawing tablet you use! That thing is sweet and I need one lol
Im not understanding. the rodecaster pro 2 always had 9 channels with 6 physical faders and three virtual. do these "new" virtual channels expand it to more than 9 channels?
Yes
can it connect four wireless go 2 mic at once?
I’ve loved my Rodecaster duo from day one ,for a dual pc setup it hands down better than the goxlr(depending on your needs of course)
Would this work for me?
im so confused i clicked the expanded settings but dont see any of the submixes in my sound settings just main multitrack and chat one
i mightve forgot to get the drivers oops lol
I have a Rodecaster Pro 2. Switched to the Beacn Studio and Mix Create due to no VOD track, sadly. That's the one thing it's missing, and who knows how long that will take to add.
Chrome doesn't seem to pay well with this new update which is mega unfortunate. Basically it's not possible to get it to come through on the main channel. if you learn any solutions to this please lmk.
How do you this on a Imac tho with ps5 connection to stream
I'm just curious about if I use wireless headphones, let's say turtle beach stealth 700, can I channel all the audio including mic monitoring through those headphones like you can with the becn products.
Or can you do that with the glgato xlr interface
With this update does the RØDECaster Duo have the same features as the Pro? I’m assuming the Duo just has less inputs/outputs/faders?
The two devices have always had the same features. The duo is just for a single or double mic set up
I have the PROII and got one of the first run units (pre-ordered) and I can't complain about it BUT I wish it was powered via wall socket/wall wart instead of usb-c.
@@nicktayloriv310 sheesh, lighten up Francis.
You said you wish it was wall powered and I pointed out that it is. 🤷
Cheers and have a Merry Christmas!
I just got a Duo and a VideoMic NTG because of you. It better not suck.
am I the only one that can't figure out how to make the volume on the mixer moving with obs? when I turn the music down on the mixer it stays loud on OBS. oof
Did you add music as a device inside obs or is it a output device from the rodcaster? Sometimes obs doesnt work if you just change a setting and you have to delete the device and re-add it.
Does Rode Streamer X have the same feature?
does this work for duel pc setup?
Have the Streamer X, in OBS you can setup an audio capture for each of the audio channels !
Is it available for Mac?
How do you guys compare this with the Elgato Stream Deck + with XLR Dock ? I'm on between these 2.
I'm also thinking of buying Maono Pd400x + ame2 interface bundle
But not sure what should I do?
My main goal is to record live/record over videos ( critic videos/shorts on website redesign/ux issues )
So I'm not sure what should I go with ?
A budget friendly bundle , like maono pd400x one
Or a high end mic , like shure mv7+ with a chinese / normal interface ?
Or a budget friendly mic like PD400x or Podmic with a good interface like 2i2 4th gen ?
What r ur suggestions? I'm totally new and have 0 experience, everything I learnt from past few days is from reddit and RUclips 😂
wait how do you import mkvs in davinci???
I just got mine and there’s one thing that drives me NUTS. The two dials for output 1 and 2 are both 2 full spins for 0-100 which is small but really annoying. Additionally there’s no quick mute for those outputs despite both dials being clickable. The clicks just don’t do anything.
I almost purchased the larger one back in 2020 when I was converting my setup to Xlr. I picked up the GoXlr instead, but I always wanted this device to evolve into something more than what it was at the time.
Can i connect it to a ps5 pro and pc simultaneously? Does that work?
It doesn't seem to have an optical audio input. There might be a way around it if you have a capturecard.
@menaceyt yes i have a capture card. I can't find any guides about that 🙃
@@shoot2loot I don't have the Rodecaster myself, so this is mostly speculative. But since you can seperate audio, I asume you can apply the elgato audio to one of the sliders just like you can with e.g. Spotify.
Just select in in the volumemixer.
i wonder if theres any delay in the audio since it's having to go through a mixer first and then to your headphones.
If I had to guess, it's probably something negligible like most pro/semi-pro audio interfaces, i.e. somewhere between 3 to 12ms.
@@imdurc I have the device and there is no delay
@@drtraxis Just so you know, every digital audio device that has to make round-trips for processing will have latency. However, each device has a different amount. Most people find certain amounts of latency to be imperceptible, while it can bother others.
I have just checked online for the RodeCaster Pro II and someone has measured the latency at 6-8ms. Apparently the first ProCaster had slightly better latency at 3ms.
Love it !!
Wait what’s a HUUPD GEATE?
I NEED ANSWERS!
All that does not make any sense.
i cant get the individual teacks to show up in obs on Mac. anyone have any luck?
Im having an issue where all the output devices are under input in windows and the input devices are under output in windows.... I hate tech sometimes.
Yeah I’ve seen this Harris it’s cool
Still no working USB Driver for DAWs...
