Do a toyota tundra supercharged vs the ram trx drag race
@@coolsquad7428 Dude the Ram Trx has a V8 Hemi Supercharged engine, no way the others would stand a chance 😂
Trx vs trx
just wait till i finish my supra swapped 1980 toyota hilux
Is what is in the 97 a 2jz. Or was a 2jz a 3.0 I can’t remember off the top of my head
John, you really did a wonderful job at upgrading the old Taco. It looks great. Thanks for sharing your ride.
the TRX makes serious power yes. BUT that little yota with 650k miles has already outlived that rams life expectancy 6x over. Cant wait to have my 01 taco back up and running with a fancy built 3.4
Makes a lot of power, but for how long is the big question. Usually when you start modding engines you significantly decrease the life of the engine.
I have an 01 runs like a top
The old Toyota won my heart.
I love old vehicles
Boto in my ass
Same they just look so beautiful my heart still in my old Tacoma I was sad when I totaled it like my bucket list is to find one and restore it to glory vs getting a new one
Me too
I love my 1st gen TRD V6, but I gotta be honest , every Tacoma is beautiful, I’d drive any generation if I had the extra money to buy them all
I like how the exterior of John's pickup doesn't scream MODIFIED. Kind of a sleeper truck that just blends in with every other 1st gen Tacoma out there.
That tacoma will still be running when that dodge calls it quits. Lol
Last place in everything.... toyota😆
Well unless they blow another head gasket and have to swap engines again LOL. If it weren't for those damn gaskets that truck's odometer would be correct HAHA!!
William Sevier. Exactly dude. Toyota cult members pretend like the engines go forever without changing the head gasket every 100k lol
No surprises on the outcome of that final race but that Taco is a beauty. Kudos to the owner for putting all the work in 👌🏼
I’d like to see another run with a factory Shelby because that 5 Star tuned truck was a major disappointment.
1 star tune lol
Throttle house did a run with the single cab 2wd super snake truck. Trx had no chance.
@@mandotob5152 bro 2wd single cab listen to your self
@@64impala59 I know very well what I wrote. They said truck didn't they? 2wd single cab is a truck. At this point it seems they want a truck faster or as fast as the trx.
@@mandotob5152 it won by half a truck, and it’s half that Ford is half the weight 😂
If you can find someone with a TRD Supercharged Tundra with the 5.7L, that would be an interesting race.
Need to be a RCSB with orange tune for even a shot. But yes on this!!
Would be interesting, against the Tacoma
Not many out there I don't think. Never really heard how many Superchargers Toyota sold for the Tundras, probably not many.
@@wildbill23c I've seen one in my while life. And that was far from my home....super rare
@@RiggyRonnie stock 5.7 tundra would run with that tacoma. 300 at the crank is slow..
Supercharged isn't keeping up with the trx without a good bit of additional mods. Only a couple guys on the forums would come close
What I like about this series and what you guys are doing is that it’s simple. No fancy setups or over complicated commentary. That old Tacoma is a beast, it won it for me.
480k headgasket finally gave up..I don't blame it. Lol I love that engine..I had a 3.4l supercharged 5speed 4runner it was a blast!
That Taco looks amazing for 650K
That little ol taco is a runner for sure
This was a great idea for a series
agree. but would like to see a GMC Syclone in there
Who has a Ram SRT-10? I'd like to see that mashup...
Would love to see the V10.
Yes a srt10 vs the TRX would be a good race!
Srt 10 to heavy
One of the coolest Tacos ever! Yeah the old one. That shit eating grin on Romans face prior to TRX launch against old Taco: priceless.
roman seems to be kinda arrogant
Excellent idea. Let people back their comments up at the track. In fact, you should do a similar series for off road. The "my 1970 beetle can go up that" people come to your off road trails and show what can go. ;)
Sadly those old Beatles can go quite a few places most people don't realize how capable they are, they should have done something like that when they had that stupid modified new Beatle, would have been quite funny to watch an old 60's or 70's Beatle go crawling up those hills the new one couldn't.
I would love a Supercharged Taco, but my lower intestine just can't handle it.
nice..
I needed that ⭐️
@@noidontthinksolol You might, if you tried eating Mexican chop meat stuffed in a Whipple
Farmtruck from Street Outlaws should show up...
A great idea!!! Farmtruck by a country more lol
That was exactly what popped in my mind when he mentioned it. Haha. Farmtruck would smoke the TRX though...
Kudos to Andre on the launch against the TRX. Nearly neck and neck off the line! Thanks for the content🤘
I have a 2015 procharged Silverado you guys can run. I'm in Colorado too.
Would love to see this
Do it.
5.7? Or 6.2 engine? Or is it 5.3 not 5.7? Not sure might be confusing it with the hemi 5.7...
@@ericinfante1885 it’s a 5.3. All stock other than the P-1SC pro charger and a corsa sport cat back exhaust.
I bet they would if you email them.
650k miles??? Awesome!
Andre, bring that supercharged godzilla from 5 Star to challenge the TRX!
We should also get the guy who built the "Farm Truck" dragster to race that supercharged godzilla engine. Apples to apples. Built engine vs built engine.
It would get it's ass kicked. Less power, more weight. 5 star raptor would be better.
@Scott, good idea!
@@PotatoeJoe69 Farm Truck will win. They're not too far away as well.
That Taco is so cool.
Love that old Tacoma. Beautiful 🤩
Not quite the same race... 707 vs 300
Big fan of that old Tacoma! Fun video guys
Ok, in some years from now let's see that Ram truck reaching 300,000 miles, it will end up in a scrape yard way before that
Im just amazed that Toyota made it to the end without the frame folding in half
🤣🍻
Only had 2 engine's and 2 chassis's.
@Air Force Juan That isn't funny. I'm surprised that tacoma could even handle that supercharger without snapping in half.
That might be my favorite old school Taco I have ever seen. Man did an amazing job up keeping such a jem!!!!
Amazing Taco John. I'm in a different country and these are called Hilux Tiger here. I have a 2004 Tiger dual cab that originally came with the 5VZ V6 auto and it now has a 3UZ FE 4.3 litre V8 out of a Toyota Celsior with a Toms Roots type supercharger with a water-cooled intercooler system and a dedicated computer. Its pushing a little over 349hp at the crank.
johns is 300 wheelhp 310tq which has got to be around 400 crank
Cool, cool....I bet that FCA piece won’t be rollin’ at 600k miles 🤣
With an engine swap yes
as a mopar fan i have to agree
Neither will a Toyota without changing the head gasket every 100k lol. Toyota cult members pretend like the engines go that long without repairs. I had to tow two Toyota’s (separate trips) from az back to ca in my Chevy 1500 when me and my buddies were in college.
To be fair. The Toyota is not on stock engine . It was a swap.
John surely loves his truck to put that much time and money into it. I think that’s awesome
I got the same stereo in my 96 tacoma 4x4 first gen what a coincidence
This was awesome!! Loved seeing the first gen Tacoma and the story about it! Those are prob the best trucks ever made imo. I know of several of them that have over 300k on them and still run like new ones.
IDK I'd kind of like one of the Tacoma's predecessors. When they just called them a Toyota pickup. Maybe go back as far as I think 85 or 84 and get one when they had solid axles front and rear....although the newer pickups are great too. Friend of mine had an 87 Toyota Pickup in high school it would go anywhere.
William Sevier My first vehicle was an 87 Toyota SR5 4x4. Their right there with the first gen Tacoma’s in my book also. Yes,they will go anywhere. That one of mine would climb a tree, lol!!
@@wildbill23cI have both a Toyota Pickup and a 1st gen tacoma. I love both of them
@@interstate80. Sorry you fell for the Toyota hype...wasn't impressed with my 08 Tundra, nor was Impressed with the 4Runner I was stuck with as a loaner for 2 weeks while my Tundra was in the shop for recurring differential issues.
Love how happy they both were in the first Tacoma race! LOL
Love that supercharger sound 🤤🤤🤤
Put it up against a GMC Syclone
Would be great race to 60mph
There all In the scrap yard , only Toyota will go to 450,000 miles
@@titirititiri6360 I beg to differ they're in a lot of people's garages since they were so rare I had one
Exactly what I was thinking!!!
@@treadlightlyservicesllc.1930 they were a really cool truck no doubt , i had wanted one , I wish Ford was more reliable and held its resale value .
Thats a gorgeous little truck!
The old Yota did almost as good as the Shelby lol
You guys should try to locate a Ford F-150 Lightning and race it against the TRX. That would be an interesting race!
If by interesting you mean a total blow out...yeah real interesting.
SRT-10 is a better match. That shitty 5.4 would throw it's spark plugs before it could even get to race the TRX.
Supercharged Tundra would be a fun race
Actually Toyota used to do dealer installed superchargers on the 5.7 but then they stopped in 2014 and that sucks if you ask me
Viktor G and his tundra would be quite the race.
Oo I can feel the rivalry between Roman and Andre 😆 little Toyota is a mighty cool truck 😎
How to ruin a drag race
Put a ad right after launch
Nope, we just have to pay our rent and put food on the table like you.
@@TFLtruck Don't you make enough money off of your truck bids, and your sponsorship's? You don't have to put the ad during the race either geniuses. Put it right before the drag race.
No one is getting rich at TFL. We put most of the money we make into building the channels and producing these videos. If you really want free entertainment there’s always tons of great cat videos on RUclips. But if you want to watch a TRX drag race you have to except us to somehow pay for it.
@@TFLtruck it has nothing to do with wanting free.
It’s the poor placement of the ad in the last drag race. You put the damn ad in the middle of it. That ruined it.
"Run what you brung" made me laugh out loud. Keep 'em coming guys!
That's a really old saying.
Please bring a Ram SRT-10!
Hell yeah fastest production truck vs fastest production truck
@@emarq6924 exactly!
@@leeduis They forgot which one is faster lol.
Honestly newer cars all pretty much offer the same tech others have-_-
I love how old Toyota was chasing the trx and the super charger whine made it sound like it was crying 😂
I'm still depending on that new raptor to be king of trucks when it unveils!!
Looking forward to this "Run What You Brung" series!
The supercharged Toyota 3.4 is such a sweet power plant.
Loved the old Taco!
You guys need to get a supercharged Tundra!
Are you binding up the 4WD systems in the Toyota’s by making the tight turn at the end of the drag strip? I thought the transfer case is only rated up to 40MPH, and I’m assuming you are going faster than that?
If they were in 4WD when they made the turn it might cause a slight bit of binding. However the transfer case in high range 4WD isn't speed limited, its limited in the capability of the vehicle and driver however. There isn't a set speed on them, rather its what the vehicle can get through really. Yeah you can shift into 4WD I think up to 55 or 60mph but you can drive as fast as the truck will go once you are in 4WD. In low range 4WD however, typically you are redlining the engine around 35mph, and some vehicles much slower, probably the Wrangler Rubicon may be around 25mph, never driven one so I can't say how fast they'll go in low range because of the 4.1 crawl ratio, but I'd bet its pretty slow compared to the Tacoma and the TRX.
@@wildbill23c I think it’s limited to the difference in the speed of each wheel. In the video they claim to launch using 4WD to gain traction and at the end you can see they take a turn. If the inner wheel is turning at a slower rate than the outer wheel, I don’t think these Toyota 4WD systems are designed to absorb the speed difference. Maybe on dirt or snow/ice where there is tire slippage, but not on pavement. Too much traction. Cool to see a 1st gen supercharged Tacoma with so many miles, would be a bummer to see the chain driven transfer case have an issue. Tire pressure and tire size (both overall wheel diameter) I think would alter this limit beyond just speed.
Never seen Andre so excited!
Rowing though gears, making the tire smoke, listening to the supercharger and exhaust scream has to have something to do with it.
Your part of the experience instead of just putting your foot down on the pedal
5:14 His racing face 😂
I have a 2000 Toyota 4runner 2.7L 5 speed, with an LC Engineering low boost supercharger kit. (4.5 psi) It is not fast, but at least it is not slow lol.
love the old tacoma
Love the old yota ! To beat the TRX🤔 maybe a half ton truck 2wd lowered blown or charged. Either way that’s insane considering the trx off road set up. SHELBY got shit on HARD
First Gen Taco is a Beast!
The 3rd gen Tacoma is geared for MPG. It won't even beat a 2nd gen off the line despite having 42 more HP and being (part time) direct injected.
the manual actually has better gears than the auto. 4.30 vs 3.91 and better trans ratios in general. through most of the rev range the old 4.0 makes more power and torque than the 3.5. you gotta have that engine screaming to make decent power
@@123devinzz1 correct, but it's still geared for MPG. And yes, through the Rev range, but to be fair, that's where direct injected engines make their power. The 3.5 loves 3500 rpm.
I'll take the old Toyota any day they are great and last for ever.
100%
In what way is the hood scoop functional? It doesn't allow any airflow into any type of intake. It would be functional if it went into an intercooler.
He’s saying that the scoop is cut open to let air flow pass over the supercharger at speed that’s all,
All the Tacoma and 4 runner scoops are blocked off as a dummy insert.
The methonal is the cooler and to keep AFR in check because the stock ECU can’t be modified or tuned unless your state has no emissions testing
Still looks great, and it's a pretty unique truck, great job John!
Bring in the classics like lighting's, cyclones and old TRD supercharged
Cyclone would be cool, not many of them out running around anymore...I can't recall ever seeing one in person, I know they're out there because they show up at car shows, but I haven't seen anyone driving one around sadly.
They had a 4.3L V6 with a supercharger correct, and full time 4WD?
I’d like to race that TRX with my 2020 Ford raptor where are you guys located ? My raptor is modded and tuned by Goosetuned 🌽🤘🏼
You guys need a supercharged Coyote F-150 to beat that TRX.
If you can keep Ford Coyote heads from warping. Mine went through 3 sets in 25,000 mile. Ford has so many Head problems they are backordered!!
David Douglass head problems? That’s the first time I’ve heard of this issue 🤔. Is there a fix for it?
After two years that old Taco will be worth more than the Ram and still more reliable.
It cracks me up when Andre says “dude” 😂
Nice performance by the 93 I had a factory supercharger in 94 installed by the dealer on mine the 93 smoked a bit though perhaps its a bit tired! nice video
Wished Toyota would offer a turbo or supercharger from the factory on their Tacoma’s.
There is some serious love put into the OBS Taco.
That Taco is exquisite. I’ve been looking at turbo for my 01 Tundra
Andre’s laugh when racing in that Tacoma is pure joy and I’m here for it. ❤️ love the content
That’s a pretty small pulley, I bet the Taco has a skosh more than 300 hrsprs.
Not at a mile above sea level,
Sea level absolutely,
There’s probably a 2 second difference advantage at sea level too
@@DEPOT1DEPOT1 Advantage? They’re both supercharged lol
Boost at sea level would be greater probably 2 pounds more.
The higher the elevation the less boost is made on an older supercharger
@@RiggyRonnie he’s saying advantage vs stock not vs the other supercharged truck
its only a m62 supercharger, about 1 liter per revolution. stock pulley is 2.37" and the 2" he has makes 11lbs on a perfect day. Max these superchargers can do is push it to 300 hp, might make a bit more but not without porting, headers, cams. You cant make any more boost because of belt slip and also you will over rev the supercharger. It can only handle 15000 rpm and a 2" pulley is VERY close to that. Though people have gone down to 1.8"
Look at how happy Andre is
I wish Nissan would put the GTR engine and transmission in the Titan or Frontier.
LOL, you guys serious? Those little taco's vs. a TRX!? Haha. I know you guys are just having fun, but almost any modern full size truck will roast those Taco's let alone a TRX! With that said, that old taco is really cool and clean, and big-time respect to it for 650k miles!!
What? One of them is a 21 and the 93 beat it.
@@RobbieFitzgerald I don't think you understood what I said. Yes I know the 93 supercharged Taco beat the new Taco, what's your point? Taco's are not full size trucks, they are mid-size. Overall, my point is Taco's are relatively slow trucks, that will get beat by almost any modern full size truck, let a lone the freaking TRX which is a total beast. Now, granted if something is built enough it can be made super fast, but all the old 93 had was a factory SC, I mean come on, lol. What's up next? a 93 Corolla with an Ebay SC vs. a new C8?
So awesome to see how much fun you guys are having especially Andre!!
Awesome video. I wish I can work with you guys. I just bought 6 of your shirts. There’s a buy one get one free offer.
Andre's last sentence sums this up for me. Can RAM come back and challenge that 1st. generation Tacoma remains as much unknown as if there're other species that live in other planets. 😁
I just can’t help but wonder if the Ram will be able to outrun the Tacoma when it has 600,000 miles on it... oh, wait...
They never should have discontinued the V6 option in the regular cab Tacoma. I think they'd have sold a lot better and perhaps still be with us today!
Its vehicles like that older tacoma that created/set the bench mark and reputation that toyota is today. I have respect for that little taco, still running quite well at 649k miles, supercharged, and that launch, kudos.
Fun show guys... But lets not lose sight of why most of us watch, that being real world driving on the trails, snow and desert running... All this horse power is fun in a straight line but not really needed in the field where driver skill and torque are the major players. Again good show made me smile
The supercharger on the Tacoma sounds vicious.
Would be interesting to see what the new supercharged 3.6L Colorado would do..
Take care, 🎼
Ive watched other videos were the Shelby kicks the TRX butt, yours is the first were it has lost makes me wonder if it was rigged...Also that TRX will be lucky to make it to even 200,000miles.
That "track" is the Baltimore of tracks! 😂
My 06 frontier 4x4 manual did a 7.5sec 0-60 according to TrackAddict. Lower elevation though. Faster in 2wd I found
Love those round late 90s tacoma been looking for one for years but most people want nearly 10k for their rust bucket.
Nice old Yota!👍🏻🤘🏻
A guy down the street from me in (Old Town Chicago) street parks a Typhoon. I’ll leave a note on his truck next time I see it.
C'mon, Lightning guys!! Represent...
Especially with the new one announced
A 650k mile TRX at 13 MPG!? I don’t even want to do the math! LOL
At that point it’s all SPG (smiles per gallon).....
Does it even hit 13 mpg? Or is it a single dig like the SRT10?
@@changpuc873 LOL, I’m guessing 13 ft. to the gallon....
You guys should race the velociraptor!
When I replace my head gasket on the left bank, I’ll try you with my ‘98 T100 with 15 pounds of boost through an overdriven TRD 4th gen ported supercharger. I also have a TRD rear Kazuma chunk with 4.88 gears, that might give mine a solid advantage over the Tacoma, and possibly with the TRX
not a fan of the whining sound from superchargers. tho i do love the manual tacomas. and just shows how reliable tacomas are that its still goin at 600,000 miles
The Dodge will never last like the Taco
That old Tacoma is awesome! I would take it over the TRX any day.
what?! are you seriously joking? Do you see the difference between those two trucks?
I have no use for an over priced pavement princess.
@@SledorFish Ok suit what u think but there's always a better option.
