Hey, so is there such a thing as six point perspective? I can find a little bit here and there, but nothing ever actually properly explaining it or showing it.
If you understand 5vp, then 6vp is actually pretty straightforward. OK, so in 1-3 point perspective you have what is called the picture plane, which represents the rectangular section of what the viewer sees that you have chosen to depict. When you move to 4 point perspective, you add another vertical vanishing point, and the 'plane' becomes a surface that is vertically curved. When you move from 4 to 5-point, you add a vanishing point in the centre of vision, making the surface also curve horizontally. You could call this (approximately) fisheye. Finally, going from 5 to 6 point, you simply double the view; that is, instead of drawing just the 180° cone of vision in front of the viewer, you also draw the 180° cone of vision behind you. When drawing a 6point view on paper it should look like two circles which are barely touching. This is somewhat weird looking. The natural format of a 6point view is a physical sphere, as far as I can tell (since it exactly accommodates the 360° view defined by 6point), although a virtual (3d mesh) sphere would probably be a decent substitute. This is a very condensed summary. If you need more detail, I would suggest reading www.thecuriouslycreative.com/topics/beginners-guide-drawing/perspective-drawing/ to the extent you can make a 5-point drawing. At that point doing a 6point is straightforward. I think it should also be stated that for these higher point perspectives, IMO working from plan views is essential to produce a 'whole sphere' that appears cohesive.
All great ideas! I have tried the grid method but my portrait still seemed wonky so I tend to draw freehand them use a ruler to make sure features are level or in the right position. I am not a fan of tracing, especially if you are selling your art... your work is amazing and very detailed! How long does it take to complete??? I am a beginner
That takes so many years. Im im 10th grade and I've been drawing since kindergarten, and I'm still not there. Practice When I watch videos i dont go for the tutorial per say, but for the tips they throw out. Like different types of shading. Start by tracing as it gives u a feel for drawing. Practice easy shading and different values. You also dont want to necessarily strive to want to draw like someone. Because you'll have 0 range, and if you do then it wont be unique.
The grid is straight up cheating. At that point, just get a camera, take a photo, move on. What's the point of copying a photo? If you are blowing up your own picture into a mural or something fine but don't copy a picture like that and then claim you drew it. That's embarrassing.
