Years ago when I worked at Wyandotte paint in Wyandotte Michigan I met George and his partner John, can’t remember John’s last name. I’m talking back when George owned The AMT model car kit company. I used to see George when he would visit the company where we made all the paint to be be approved by him before we sent the approved colors to be put in spray canes to be sold with the kits. My job was to develop these wild and beautiful colors. I will never forget the look on his face when I showed him the series of candy apple type colors in red, blue, green, golden yellow. They just bloooo his mind. I remember writing down how I developed them for him. He was a very nice man to meet and share time with. For a while he would visit the plant every month as we started making these paints.

Holy moly Batman!!! Listen, I loved George Barris like a Grandpa and chased him down at car shows for over two decades for signatures and conversations. He liked me, because I loved everything he had ever done. I started calling him Grandpa George and he always acted like he knew who I was. George was a special dude to say the least. History from the past making history today . Chip, you must be so excited to see this ! If only George was alive to see one of his very early customs .Of course he maybe looking down and thanking you Chip . ❤

Many years ago a buddy of mine handed me a book to read. I think the title was Hotrod. It was about the adventures of a young man in the 50's who built a car out of several other cars and his adventures and misadventures along the way. I swear this is the car out of that book as I pictured it in my mind. Amazing!
Chip! Awesome… This guy always makes me smile with how he approaches these projects and the people. I’m always super happy for the people at the other end of his passion and generosity!
This is why Chip Foose is a legend in the car world. He's a car guy. He's doing something that few would do to help those who simply don't know what they've got...
I just found your channel after watching you on TV for years. You are a true hand artist craftsman I love to watch. Excellent video and I cannot wait to see the finish product!!!!
You should tell the owner that the vertically hung US flag is backwards--the union (the blue field with stars) always goes to the top left. That's part of flag etiquette.
you don't realize how these cars were built, you could actually grind on the metal fenders and other body panels to literally pull dents out of the old cars, some of you know what i mean im sure. and those window frames were so well built and heavy they could be used as weapons. i miss the old cars but at my age ive gone a little soft and appreciate the a/c and power windows of today.
George Barris was an excellent custom body craftsman, they just might have something rare and possibly a museum piece. I would love to see a follow-up video of this car.
I watched this man growing up and I met him in st. Paul Minnesota. At a school being certified as a Bodyman. Asked him to show me how to get a panel flat just so I could watch him work and pick his brain. Awesome guy. He's on my automobile Mt. Rushmore.
Chip, once you have the car cleaned up & running, would you clear coat it to preserve the stripes & paint??? Or leave it as is ??? I hope the car gets ready & sent to auction ASAP because the people who have an appreciation for a Barris car are sadly dying off.
