It's amazing how far special effects have come that they can so palpably convey the emotional state of CGI animals. Payakan's rage gave me chills and legitimately freaked me out the first time I watched this. His tantrum and continued bashing into the reef isn't him trying to muster up the courage to attack the ship. It's the opposite; he's trying to resist the urge to attack, because it's against his species' code of honor. But in the end, that's his motherfucking bro, and he won't cast his best friend aside for the sake of maintaining some cultural principle. That look of wild fury in his eye when he sees Lo'ak's silhouette through the water was so good.
This scene gave me chills and made me tear up a little cause just imagine the emotional state that he is. Payakan lost his mother, he lost his spirit brothers and sisters of the Na'vi, he was exiled from the clan because all he wanted to do was defend his people and instead was punished for it. Now the only person left on the planet that cares about him and bonded with him is being threatened by the same people that killed his family. His people's cultural ideals of no killing is making him furious, he realizes that this way of pacifism is what is going to get them all killed and he is not going let them kill his spirit brother that helped him when he had a harpoon in his fin. That fiery look in his eyes and his rage filled episode of smashing the reefs below says a lot. I feel he said to himself as he was charging towards the ship "never again".
This is probably one of my favourite moments from this movie (which I loved). My interpretation of Payakan's disturbance underwater 00:28 is him clearing an area for him to swim down far enough to breach the surface with enough force to get ontop of the ship. He has the advantage of knowing the Whalers and how they will attack, and can lure them in before taking the upperhand and finally getting his revenge.
I didn't even think of that, he is very intelligent. I interpretated it as is grappling with his having to kill for the first time and it going against his beliefs and the tulkun way, he know what he would have to do to save his brother
I thought it was more him being filled with rage and conflict as his people's beliefs in no killing was tearing him apart until he felt that he didn't care if he was exiled, he wasn't going to lose the only person in the world that cares about him.
Seeing how payakan was swimming around their spirit tree at the end I think he may have been re accepted into the clan as he wouldn't have been allowed there if otherwise. Let's hope he was re accepted cause that big beautiful soul has gone through enough pain.
You cant be heavy enough that your one fin crushes an exosuit but also not be heavy enough to just crush yourself upon such a landing Thats what kills irl whales upon beaching, not the drying up, they get crushed under their own weight
I hope they release the musical score recording sessions one day with the film version of the tracks. Because 1:07-1:22 is NOT in the track from soundtrack that was officially released.
Same, also i like the little ambient track that plays when quaritch and his team is scouting the old shack, not a part of any of the tracks in the soundtrack sadly🤷♂️🤷♂️

He also knows that the so-called tulkun way will lead to his species' extinction, so all the more reason to break that code and save Lo'ak.
our boy payakan was so determined he even brought back the toruk makto theme music

0:35 I was like “THAR SHE BLOWS”
I hope Payakan returns for the next three sequels and maybe everyone apart from Lo’ak will understand and see him as a hero.
He will
He returns in Avatar 3. I'm excited.

If it wasn't for Payakan, Jake, Lo'ak, Tuk and Tsireya would be dead by now. And Spider would never be rescued.
Payakan was like "I lost my mum to these bastards, I'm not losing my bro!"
Payakan has gone MAD! 🐋 0:13
Payakan to the rescue🐋🐳

There are also some great brass heavy action cues in the underwater kelp forest chase sequence that isn't on the album.
I only wish in real life the whales were that bold and knew to fight back against whalers and poachers 😢
ruclips.net/video/AukGs0Q_31w/видео.html
well in real life whale ships are much larger and a grenadeharpoon is nothing to sneeze at
Some species of whales did fight back like sperm whales
@@spooders8424 but even then, they’re bodies are strong enough to be able to ram or jump and capsize whaling ships 😢
