@@49riffinator its pretty cool that you got to even be alive in the same time as a legend like chuck. I kind of always knew death was a band i just never bothered to check them out but then i heard zombie ritual and fell in love

Dude, when you mentioned looking at the special thanks section of the liner notes is exactly where I found so many bands. I’d write them down, mark then off my list and here we are now. Choosing death, the book had a great section in the back that went by year and have checked many of those off too. Cheers dude.

Being older now I was always into Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Sepultura, CoC in my younger teen days. Typical banger kid. Small town SW Ontario(rural af) was terrible for finding new music. These days though, holy shit. So much to discover. Even in the past couple of weeks like after you did that Malevolent Creation cover. Bam! 20 album history to peruse.
Y'tube channels like Banger TV, Relapse, Metal Injection, Metal Blade, Nuclear Blast, etc. And people like yourself doing covers of tunes I never knew existed(thanks for that btw) is awesome. Gotta love hearing a killer tune, looking up the band, and finding decades of music to shred through.
    Cheers.

At the Gates, Bolt Thrower, Malevolent Creation, Pestilence Dying Fetus. I could go on. I, m in my mid to late 40,s. And my taste is getting heavier and darker. Maybe due to my sons taste. But I, m glad to say I got my son into Deicide. Love the videos man.

I am pretty sure the first time I ever saw a video of you playing was the Nile song. The Essential Salts?
NGL when that album came out and I saw its promotion I was all WTF? Thinking it was some new age record. Boy was I wrong.
That band ended up being one of my all-time favorites.

  • @saintlotus93

From ages 12-17 I listened almost exclusively to Death and Thrash metal so I missed a lot of good metal bands outside of those genres. Especially the early metalcore and deathcore stuff from around 2004-07, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Chimaira, Whitechapel, etc. Although a lot of it were because of other kids into my school that were into them. Thought was "Oh, these bitch emo kids are listening to them they must suck."

Hey dude.Ever heard of Melechech? They toured with Nile a few years ago. They also have that middle east vibe. You can check them out. I'm more of an oldschool-fan when it comes to metal in general, but i thought i'd mention them. :)
I never saw Skid Row with the original members of the debut album. When we were checking the gigs-to-come-list at our local vinyl dealer (No internet back then. Awesome. Meet a friend, buy some beer and drive to the recordstore to check who's on tour) we chose to visit another band. Because "Skid Row are still so young, they will be around a few more decades." Oh boy... ^^

  • @ViniciusRodrigues534

A bit off topic, but it's unbelievable how the same thing happens even in the era of internet. I mean, I was born in the internet era and still do the same mistake of "not paying due attention to band X and then later on loving the band". Cannibal Corpse was one of those bands that I didn't like that much in the beginning, but after years I fall in love with. Opeth (growl era) was another one. Thanks for sharing!

Definitely Bolt Thrower for me too. I couldnt believe that I passed them up for so many years.
My other four would be Obituary, Repulsion, Pungent Stench, and Vader....... my excuse is that at the time I discovered death metal, I quickly tried to find the most brutal sounding version of it. So asked some dudes who they thought were the heaviest death metal band, and one of them said “Brodequin”. So Brodequin became my favorite band by far. From there, I was listening to bands like Disgorge (usa), Putridity, Drain of Impurity, Pustulated, Devourment, etc. exclusively up until I discovered gore grind bands with pitch-shifted vocals, like Rompeprop, Last Days of Humanity, and so on.
I didnt give the bands in my list the time of day unfortunately.
But I definitely do now. And I still listen to all of the other bands I mentioned too.
Basically if its death, grind, thrash, black, or even crust punk, I’ll listen to it..... so long as theyre not a band full of chode posers 🤣

Fucking Perfect Discography.

I got into metal in the 80s started with my moms records so my 1st stuff was ozzy, quiet riot, black sabbath etc than i moved on to thrash metal starting with metallica ,slayer and exodus etc. My 1st death metal cassette was possessed:seven churches later on i got into bolt thrower ,obituary ,cannibal corpse etc. I got into deicide because i saw once upon the cross in a record store and the cover art was censored so i thought this has to be good and it was. My biggest regret is i never got into death until after chuck died seen death tapes back in 1989 and for whatever reason i just never picked 1 up now death is 1 of my favorite bands.

I'm not the biggest DM fan. I'm extremely picky about the genre and I usually get blasted for my death metal tastes (not that I care). Anyway, there are quite a few bands that I either was "late to the party" for or, worse yet, I bought an album by a particular band and dismissed the band outright based on one album.
    5. Death - bought _Leprosy_ back in the 80's. Hated it. Totally snubbed the band until I saw the video for _The Philosopher_ and fell in love with it. Still am not a fan of _Leprosy_ and _Scream Bloody Gore_ but a big fan of everything else Chuck and company did.
    4. Suffocation - didn't jump on board until my mid to late 20's. Maybe early thirties... whenever _Souls To Deny_ came out...
    3. Carcass - picked up _Heartwork_ after reading the rave reviews and hearing my friends talk about like it was better than sliced bread. Still not a fan of their early stuff, but I love _Heartwork_ and _Swansong_ (yup, I'm that guy; _Swansong_ is awesome)
    2. Cathedral - bought _The Ethereal Mirror_ when it first was released and for reasons that I cannot explain, I hated it. Listened to it once and shelved it for years. One day I dug it out for giggles and promptly punched myself in a tender region for dismissing these guys. Stupid. Just stupid.
    1. I don't want to admit this one... but here goes... Motörhead. I hated Lemmy's voice as a kid, thought they sounded off-key and just refused to listen to them. _Ace of Spades_ actually bugged me. I couldn't stand that song.
Bought _Overnight Sensation_ in '97 after reading a glowing review from my favorite metal critic (Martin Popoff) and took a chance. Before I convinced myself to buy the album, I thought Marty was crazy but he raved about Motörhead and so did my friends. So, I bought it and promptly ate my words. Now I own their entire studio catalog. I'm sorry Lemmy. I was an idiot. You are a fucking god.
Honorable mentions: Emperor, Nasty Savage, Exhorder, Bathory, At The Gates

demolition hammer is one of the most baddest motherfuckerest bands ever, discovered them shortly after nocturnus. one band i discovered late was misery index. electric wizard, windhand, even black sabbath. actually i was listenin to cryptopsy first. got into cattle decapitation when it became cattle decaffeination. sad.
