FROM YUCK TO HOLY F***!!!! IBANEZ UNIVERSE FRETBOARD STAIN

- MY yuck fretboard now looks super kick***!!! This is my Ibanez Universe UV70P which I love all around, BUT...the fretboard was total puke territory! One of the ugliest rosewood boards I have ever seen on a guitar. When I first plugged it in at the guitar store I was instantly won over. It sounds and plays so damn good!!! So this is the conclusion to what turned out to be a bigger project than I had planned lol. I've stained a handful of rosewood fretboards prior to this one with relative ease, but this one...it was a total d**k about it!!! However, I always win the war and now it looks gorgeous. Once I restring it and intonate it I will do another follow up video. Thanks so much for watching!

There’s nothing wrong with making the Guitar as perfect to you as possible, it is your opinion of how you want it. I think it looks great. Great job Kevin!!
Just a word of advise regarding staining your fret boards. Try looking up a fine woodworking supply store in your area. Rockler Woodworking/Woodcraft are a couple big ones.
Take a look at their wood dyes, dyes tend to work better than stains on hardwoods and a lot of them are alcohol based and dry extremely fast.
Fiebings Black Leather Dye is the way to go, for me at least. Rubs right off the markers and the frets. Can be tricky if you have fb binding though so it has to be taped and it can still find the little cracks there might be lurking in the binding
Your videos are awesome! Been stuck binge watching all your videos 🤘
That turned out great. That Universe should have came with an ebony board. Take note Ibanez!🤘
I f'n' love the color scheme. The accents of green are well placed.
Шикарная получается гитарка 🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥
Turned out great man!
On white fret markers I use a pencil (eraser end) with fine sandpaper and sand off the stain from the markers.
I always enjoy your videos! Now you gotta make a riffin' video with it.
That looks sick now!
As slayable as it is playable! 🤘
That is a beautiful Ibanez
That's 1000% better man, really fukn looks good! I'm thinking about doing a couple of mine now after watching you. Thanks for the inspiration brother! \m/
Hey kev, I use this awesome product called lizard spit on my frets. Leaves them shiny and gorgeous every time without fail!
Fiebing's Leather Dye has the best results of any I've tried, by a long shot.
You are a pretty cool guy!
5:55 I laughed my ass off! Badass guitar Kevin!
Kevin you are cool my dude

Nice
looks kick-ass. Was worth it.
Only fretboard colour you can trust is fingergunk green, means it plays good
bought one recently, had a nice dark board, maybe the darkest i have seen on one of these. high e string too close to edge and the frets were cut in too far so i had to return it
I already used two markers on my fretboard to stain and it’s actually pretty dark but fuck it I’ll add some stain just to see how much more it is.
How did you learn to hot rod your guitars ? ,,,,, They look Amazing
Fkn Killer!! Question, what did you use to remove the stain from the green fretmarker dots? Thanks.
I find it interesting that the original UV7BK has a much darker rosewood fretboard than what the UV70P comes with despite also being rosewood, maybe just a difference in how the rosewood is finished while in the manufacture process?
Sorry for the off-topic question, but is there a pre-workout and post-workout blend you'd recommend for preventing injury/promoting recovery in an extremely physically-demanding job? I know glucosamine is good for the joints and tendons, and protein is the fuel the body uses to repair itself, but that's about the extent of my knowledge.
I'm a middle-ager starting at General Motors as a second career-path, and I'd like to try and build my body up in the process of learning this new job, not destroy it (not great for job-security). I've heard good things about Magnum's products, but they're pricey as hell. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
🎶What's that sound. Doodoo brown🎶 😂
Hey you stirred it this time
i want to do this but my problem is getting the stuff all on my fingers while playing. i had this problem with a gretch that i bought new once, and i fear having black fingers.
What kind of guitar oil are you using? I personally like using Music Nomad F-One Oil
do you have video showing a step by step? i have a few guitars id like to stain the necks.
wrote this comment before watching full video... disregard lol
Any suggestions on white wood stain for a Fingerboard on a ESP Guitar
Do you still hydrate the board after staining?
I've thought about darkening the fretboard on one of my guitars, I'm just a little concerned about what's the right stuff to use, I'd fuckin hate to do it an then several years down the line it will barely take in any oil and end up causing issues.
Any finish after it dries, Kev?
Edit, That cack smoker looks good man
Hmmm
@@JayLee-bv3vw that's what he called it 😂
Those doo doo brown fretboards look especially hideous on black guitars. I got a 95 RG550 LTD with a rosewood board but it’s as dark or darker than ebony boards I’ve seen. I guess everyone appreciates something different in wood grain and shade on their fretboards but I don’t mind a few streaks but prefer really tight grain mostly dark rosewood and I guess we’ve just about used all the choice rosewood up. It’s crazy you can find older Squiers and Cheaper Ibanez and Jacksons with way better looking fretboards than some of the newer mid tier to higher end stuff. I had around a 2010 RG 920 qm that had a rosewood board on it that was much lighter and it didn’t look that bad on the Orange quilt top but the wood grain of the board had a lot of “dog hair” wood grain in it that I just didn’t like. I’m sure it would’ve filled in with finger gunk eventually. Then people will say it doesn’t matter what it looks like and I call BS we all picked up the guitar because we thought it was cool and if your guitar doesn’t look cool to you then you won’t be inspired to pick it up and play it.
The green and black is my favorite Universe besides the original Swirls. I think they would’ve looked great with disappearing green pyramids on those black and green, but the green dots kick ass too .
Question, what would the best string gauge be (subjectively) for playing drop d-drop c while maintaining good pinch harmonics?
9-42
Hi kevin
Is this the guitar the guitarist from Morbid Angel played?
yea i dont think this model specfically because i think that one has a maple neck im not sure
UV7BK modified with different Pickguard and switching options
This is the newer reissue made in Indonesia. The original UV7bk's from the 90's had a different neck and bridge, made in Japan but they're 3x more expensive now.
Fuck the wood stain. You could get the best results with leather stain. It stays in and you won't get it on your fingers while playing.
