- Well guys, another NGD is here and this time I happened to find the super iconic Ibanez Universe 7-string! Is it everything that people say it is? Does it sound and play like a dream? Is it an original green dot from the early 90's Made in Japan? Find out in the video 😝😝.

Ibanez is always a hit.. I was looking to replace my ancient RG7 standard bought in 1999. I ended up getting an RG Iron Label and I am not disappointed. 3 piece neck. loaded with EmG81/85.
Next in the pipeline is finishing this Bernie Rico Jr Hesperian 8 string. Installing a Bridge/Nut Bareknuckle/ Hipshot Neck/Bridge.

Man seeing that guitar takes me back to when I used to play in a band with some friends. The good ol days. Right around the time that "the burning red" from machine head dropped. Man I miss those days.
Finally someone agrees that album was good. Much better than anything they wrote after to be honest. Summer 99!

It's a really stunning instrument, what a beauty, a real machine. Actually Fredrik from Meshuggah introduced me to it. My dream guitar!

Awesome, Kevin. I had around 10 original 90s UVs & and played them for 15 years as my main guitar. Those were the 1st professional guitars I ever had. I got away from Ibanez 7s for about decade but finally bought the same guitar you have in the beginning of 2023. I needed to "scratch that itch. Cut to today, I've come full circle & it's been my main guitar ever since I got it. I have guitar that are 4 times the price & they just sit in the cases. If the Blaze pickup isn't doing it for you, get a D Activator in the bridge. I love it & of course, you HAVE to go GREEN! ❤

I had one back in 9192 somewhere around there when I was still in a band for a join the Marines loved loved that guitar so much that thing was gonna make me a rockstar, but John Marines, get married, ex-wife decided to break it one day it just shattered everything but I never went back to Agnes. Sadly I know Washburn BC Rich pretty much all of them but that neck on the guitar is something truly remarkable.
I just scored a ‘91 in near mint, I remembered this video so had to come back and comment, I love it, it’s Type O meets Trey, it’s brutal
Sweet ! That’s the only 7 string I’ve ever lust after besides the original Universe. I came real close to getting an original swirl Universe but it had sold by the time my cool Uncle talked my Granny into buying it for me for Christmas, it was right before Korn hit big and people really weren’t crazy and the 7 strings it was used and around 500 and would’ve been a steal, someone beat me to it and I wound up with my black RG550 LTD that day instead. I wasn’t supposed to buy another guitar, my Uncle convinced my granny the Universe was a really good deal and it would’ve been. Anyway found my RG it was in a shop on consignment in the town square I spotted it from the car black with shark tooth and a mirrored pick guard, but I thought no way I could afford it I think they were around 1000 dollars new , but it was consigned for 650 or something, my uncle had the owner of the shop call the guitar’s owner and the stars aligned. I couldn’t believe I had a real MIJ Ibanez that was around a year old hard case and all really the only nicer Ibanez of the time was a JEM or a Satriani. I know you love the Jackson stuff of that era and my friends all had Jacksons and couldn’t figure out why I didn’t get a Jackson so my last name was on the headstock. I just always thought the Ibanez necks felt better.
That extra string was living in absolute terror!!
I love the dimarzio blaze, I have it in my 7 string. It has a lot of cleanliness because they’re nice and scooped out, if your amp is a fire breathing gain machine it work’s really well to clear up your tone.
Never played them but keep hearing great things about them.
@@stallionstudios they are outstanding. The ej custom is also extremely underrated for metal on 6 string. Most clear pickup ever made imo
man, those pickups sound great. I think they're just right. once you record that with the drums and bass it's got the perfect bite and chunk

Sweet Universe. I too have noticed those DiMarzio P/U's just don't do it for me. I swapped out mine for Seymore's SD and JB. Fixed that issue .... It screams now. The Ibanez trems to me are AWESOME. I can't wait to see more of it!

What happened with it? I wanted one too but I've seen people complain about certain issues too. They are a real slick looking guitar, I've seen some people with the OG and scalloped 12th - 20th neck which was unique

Me and my dad both play guitar and we go to Motor City Guitar for a fun thing to do. One day we went there and saw the exact Ibanez Universe you bought. I was thinking about buying it, then I saw it sold. I didn’t think much of who bought it. After coming across this video a while later and finding out you bought it is really cool. It’s awesome that I tried out a guitar you ended up buying. Sick music and content 🤟 :)!

since those are the Dimarzio Blaze pickups and a little lower output, they will work really well with an overdrive pedal. love the youtube and instagram channel too!

I regret selling my UV777. It was a 1999 so it had the special neck that's thick on the bass side and thins out towards the treble side. It played like absolute BUTTER. Someday I'll grab another. Enjoy Kevin!
Ya man I’m an Ibanez guy, i own several prestige’s, and I actually put dimarzio blaze pups in my rgd2127fx to get that old school early 2000s vibe. And I love em. They just have that tone
Make sure you check the pickup height too. Sometimes they have them too low. But ya man this guitar was all over so many records from back in the day. Fear factory, mashugga, korn, MA, dude so many!

Exactly, capture the vibe, fk footin the bill bro, sometimes its worth it but the way quality parts are mass produced, it's easy to find really good gear for reasonable prices

Have white one, UV71pw for 5 years, very good guitar, prefer it over RG1077XL wich is olso very cool guitar.
You're lucky to have rosewood fretboard, newer ones have wenge - often get cracked after time.
Floyd rose (edge zero2) - is good, no much difference(have intonation tool onboard,so saddles are different, have both) with edge zero on japanese models. Just don't overtight srews
Don't change pickups, they suit very well, chugs and leads, try to use Precision Drive as boost.
If you in to low action, it can be set very low, mine have 1.15mm over 12th fret on 7th string.
Very important to level and crown the frets, get neck as straight as you can, sometimes recessing nut is needed.
If you don't use trem - block it like Van Halen, for dives only. If - yes - set up properly, parallel it with posts. Don't forget posts are secured with inner srews.

I've been wanting a Universe for such a long time. I have big hands, so most Ibanez necks are too thin to be comfortable, but the Universe is the only one that just felt right.
How are the fret ends? I've heard people complain about input Jack's failing and mostly sharp fret ends. I've only had input jack fails on 2 inanez prestige models it scared me away for a good while

On the bridge tthe studs have a stud lock inside! Make sure you loosen that before you change saddle height

If you want to get those OG universe vibes and understandably can’t afford it, the Korn K7’s from the early 00’s are absolute monsters and can go toe to toe with the OG universes all day everyday. They were directly based off of their original universes they used so it makes sense. You can still find them under $2k.
RG7620 is basically the same guitar made in the same factory, you can still get a good deal on them. I used to buy them for $250 on the used market.
Fixed bridges and no all access neck joints on the apex's..no thanks

I’m a diehard John Petrucci fan and he also used one back in the 90s haha. How does this model play and hold up compared to the Ibanez Iron Label series?

They had two original Universes at my local music shop back in the day. They were way above my pay grade (I was barely 17) lol They were gone quick.
