AoS has like...the opposite of codex creep. All the 3rd edition tomes have been either buffed, nerfed, or internally retooled to not only be much better balanced against each other, but much better internally balanced as well. If there's one thing you really *can't* complain about in AoS, it's how they've been handling 3.0 battletomes!
I think comparing a 2nd and 3rd edition book (not to mention a 2nd edition book that was iirc bad in its own time) and calling it codex creep isn't really right. If you look at all the 3rd edition tomes they're fairly well balanced among eachother and the "worst" of them can have a good chance to beat the "best" of them. It's not really codex creep, just that 3rd edition is a different game which these 2nd edition tomes don't really fit into, and once they get their 3rd books they'll be far more on par with the rest of the books.
@@OmegaIdiot Exactly unlike 40Ks. The issue with 40K is the sheer disparity in book strength in modern books. Codex Necrons vs Codex Tau is a great example. Tau railguns can obliterate anything pretty reliably, vs say... Necron "doomsday" guns which are worse than a leman russ' gun, as an example. The 40K issue is that through the edition each book has been one-upping the other. While in Sigmar each 2nd book brought up to 3rd is on a roughly the same level. The Stormcast Battletome, despite being the first is still as good as say... Beasts of Chaos or Gloomspite, the newest books, as the creep of rules and numbers is just... not there like it has been throughout 9th edition 40K.
You can have both a Stormcast unique enhancement and a galletian champion unique enhancement, Chef. There's no limit on different kinds of unique enhancements. You get 1 of everything.
Ahhh good to know, way I was reading it was a Unique Enhancement is like a Spell or Artefact, so their own category which might have multiple 'pools' to pick from. Next time!
@@thepastrychef8014 Enhancements are a bit messy! In the Idoneth book for instance you can get two mount traits for free... just because they are on different lists. It's a whole thing.
No pressure on Fletecher, he's a great painter he just needs the time I love seeing all his cool stuff! He'll get around to the new shiny kits in good time!
A save isn't just an armour save, it's a save. Blissbarbs getting a 5 is fine because they are dancers, dodgers and such with unnatural reflexes and fetishism for pain due to their worship of the god of decadence. While a stormcast boy might be armour clad as all eight points he also will be slow and cumbersome.
Pure speculation on the Armour creep thing; If you look at books from the last Edition Rend was a lot rarer and at some point during last edition rend 1 became more common( compare Cities and Ossiarch for example to current books), design wise your supposed to use the CP economy to counter this but it still had some units dying at a rate I don't believe they were designed to hence everyone getting some save buffs to make the reliance on CP not total
@@tabletoptactics And your "yet" gives me hope ehhehe. I love how dedicated you are to the rules and your camera work, trying to show all the match. As a person new in AOS and 40K I love how you guys make the videos. I wish you all success!
Great battle, love the AoS content! 5:49 - I'll bet Fletcher's painting cue is chock full of Tzeentch daemons for Chef, surely? Which limits Sigmar's tabletop influence....Just As Planned.
Eh, not everything in terms of Saves needs to be represented by armour, I think. A monster has a tough scaly hide, the zippy leatherboys of slaanesh might have supernatural reflexes and agility, etc. Besides, the Prosecutors with shields have better saves, so there you go. (even though its baked in with the javelin prosecutors since they dont have weapon options like the hammer dudes, which means you can all out defense them for a +2 save.)
2:08:40 that would actually be a cool rule - upon the Keeper of Secrets being slain, on a 1-3 you roll 1D6, on a 4-6 you roll 2D6 and that many demonettes emerge (or something like that).
I feel like monsters already overperform in aos - the damage splash, the fact that you cant have the second rank out of range, the monstrous rampages, that infantry squads essentially bracket much sooner than monsters do - that a -1 to wound would feel too much
I have a new favorite podcast to watch. But that being said, mind you the Battle Board does book thematic butt from the overhead view you can't tell where the Miniatures are hardly at all😢
I kinda like that the saves for models in AOS is slightly less. I remember old 7th ed 40k and how frustrating it was to deal with marines - a 3+ means a 33% chance of failing the save but it always felt kinda pointless to shot at them with small arms fire. You pretty much only shot them at them on the off chance something might go through as a bonus, rather than actively expecting it to reduce their numbers. AOS toned it back a little by making 4+ the base for heavier armour (Which is closer to old WHF anyway, where plate armour was only 4+). It'd be far less of an issue if the average Rend values weren't slowly going up though.
So with the way models wound other models, at first I was very much on board with Chef's mindset that it's strange that a Stormcast could wound both a huge monster and infantry with the same roll. But what I've come to realize is that particular model or unit has trained to hit and wound things either that effectively or poorly. So like Clanrats wont be able to effectively hit something and much less wound their target because they aren't martially trained trained like a Stormvermin.
Some of the numbers on Stormcast warscrolls can seem odd. I believe some units fall victim to there being way too many units that are very similar, so the rules writers try to make them different..
The difference in armour saves is pretty big. 3up is lot bigger than 4up etc.(and 6+ is essentially useless) Also disagree on bt creep. If it was so bad why aren't tournaments dominated by newer books? (and stormcast hate old books? He's facing previous edition book...)
Love those Fiends, they are one of the most 'demon' looking units i have seen so far ^^ Edit : Am sure that dying by those 'Songs' the Keepers sing is kinda like that black drssed guy in the first Indiana Jones Movie ... with all the Face melting and such ^^
Am I the only who would have let Slaanesh go first battleround 2? Most of Slaaneshs army is stuck in combat with all objectives inactive. Limited mobility and a chance that none of the objectives become active. Love the energy and the banter❤😂 I do really enjoy your battlereports on AoS

I've just got to 1:50:00 and I've got to say the wound mechanics in sigmar the main thing (outside of lingering End times salt) that has really put me off getting into it. It just doesn't feel thematic to me that things are equally good at wounding a clanrat and and a t rex. I'm also the kind of person that misses comparative WS in 40k for the same reason though. I get it speeds the game up but the fantasy is important and Abbadon the Despolier, a man who killed a clone of his own primarch in combat, getting bonked on the head by a sister of battle with a stick 50% of the time does not feed into the fantasy for me.
