      One change for Thundertusk I personally think would be good for it is to have its frost breath give an enemy a movement penelty. Like -2". And give Huskard on Stonehorn a 25 point cut. Beastriders also should have both Harpoon Launcher with Blood Vulture by default to make up for their smaller save, everyone takes BV on those mounts anyways and Harpoon is just an added option for some potential dmg spikes, it is two Ogors on a mount after all issuing commands would be a very nice cherry on top. Mornfang should be counted by default as a unit of 4 instead of 2 so they actually can get all their benefits on their warscroll maybe have their points go up by 25 bringing them from 175 to 200 just to prevent spamming. Finally everything Gluttons and Ironguts could honestly go down by 10-15 points.

      I would love to see any brand new models. For example, the slaughter master is a copy and paste skragg the slaughterer from the ogre kingdoms, which feels very unimaginative. Another example outside the mawtribes is that the chief warlock engineer for the skaven is basically a copy and paste ikit claw.

  • @ThomFoolery12

    One thing about the slaughter master is his base size. You can get those spells farther out while still standing next to the maw pot.

    Well this officially validates my choice to play a Bloodgullet Gutbusters army.

    • @cuboidham
      @cuboidham Год назад +3

      i think bloodgullet could work with a gutbusters focus and also a frostlord
      +1 to the attacks of non-monster (fun fact, hits mournfang tusks too RAW) is nuts, giving an enemy -1 to hit is great and molten entrails makes a charging frostlord somehow scarier because his mount attacks are now at +2 damage
      probably not the best list, but this feels like the best way to get all the juice outta the gutmagic to me. also gambling magic

    I really like seeing/hearing people talk about things they really enjoy/are passionate about, and that's clearly the case here. Like, he stopped the video when he got to the Frostlord on Stonehorn warscroll just to talk about the lore because he thinks it's so cool. I love it.

  • @KC-kl6qc

    I mean, technically speaking, Leadbelcher cannons are more like blunderbusses; they don't load cannonballs, they load whatever crap they find lying around with a hefty pile of gunpowder to make it work, so D3 shots and 1 dmg actually checks out imo

    @jofranklin3723 Год назад +9

    Fantastic job as always Mr Woah, we're still checking with the experts, but this could be potentially the biggest faction focus yet. Heres hoping for a new wave of models to push for a LRL/DOK situation and get a new, better book.

  • @Bluecho4
    @Bluecho4 Год назад +3

    For those interested in building the Gutbusters side of the army, and need to fill out models, I point to Wargames Atlantic (as I, the eternal Wargames Atlantic simp, am want to do). They recently came out with a plastic kit of Landsknecht Ogres. The kit gives 9 ogre bodies for $35. A bit lower than I thought it would be, but it's still better than GW's 6 Gluttons for $55.
    Moreover, those sprues are full of weapon, equipment, and head options. Hand weapons, great weapons, hand cannons. Even pistols, for those looking to make Maneaters. So most of the foot infantry range is covered by this one kit. (It's also a double kit, with an entire separate set of parts for Sci Fi, so 40K players can use them as cheap Ogryn. Not Bullgryn, though, they don't have big shields.)
    If you don't mind them looking like German mercenaries, the kit is a very solid and economical option. Especially if you take the multi-box deals, for an increasing discount. If you want to build a full army or just fill out your battleline, you can do a lot worse.
    EDIT: It would probably help players looking to make Landsknecht Ogre armies to have similarly themed Ogre _characters,_ and not just by kitbashing a normal ogre model. For this, I'd recommend Warmonger Miniatures. Under their "Orcs" (not "War Orcs", that's different) heading, they have "Ogres/Great Orc Characters" as a category. It contains a load of Ogre-scale metal models in Landsnecht style, that look pretty unique. Pick a model that appeals to you to act as your Hero models, or as flavorful Sergeants for your normal units. Metal models are more expensive per model than plastic, but you probably don't need that many of them.

      @@HeyWoah Fair enough. A partial success, however accidental, is worth celebrating, especially one that is replacing a more holistic failure. Still, I had been pretty impressed with the early battletomes of 3rd edition - or at least soulblight and nighthaunt, since my focus is mostly on the undead. It really seemed like the rules writers for those books were taking a careful and considered look at each and every unit in those factions, with an open willingness to completely re-write warscrolls from the ground up where the previous rules failed to bring that unit to (un)life on the tabletop. Very little in either book was blindly copied forward without thought. At the time I had been hoping that this sort of energy would be carried forward to 3rd edition battletomes in general, and my lack of attention for non-undead factions had allowed me to believe that was the case until this video pulled me back to reality.

    Regarding the non character ogors on Thunder tusk and stone horn being unable to give themselves commands I agree its dumb but I think the fix over all is to just cut back on the amount of units in the game that can act totally independently. Make it a real weakness for some armies and a real strength for others. Stormcast are all elite warriors so they should be able to command themselves across the board on the other end of the spectrum, Skaven are all cowards, most undead are totally mindless and gitz are insane so it should be harder for them to follow orders.

    And 2) I know that Ironblaster spam is so hot right now, but is it worth trying to fit Mack daddy Frostlord on Stonehorn into the list at the expense of an ironblaster? If not, should I just run double butchers for my HQs and call it good?

    The frustrating part about the T-tusk, is that it is so easy to fix. If the sneeze had a normal hit on a 4+ instead, 3+ against 10 or more models and 2+ against 20 or more models, it would actually be quite decent. If it is still too weak, just give it more range. Having 7 T-tusks sneezing 12 dices each from 30" away with hit chance of 50% or more, would probably be way over the top, but it shows how just small details adjustment is needed to take it from furry to fury.
    The T-tusk Huskard took a hard blow for me. It used to dish out the prayer Curse on a 2+. Now it's on 4+. Curse is one of my favourite tools. Even Gnoblars are scary against cursed targets. Having nearby T-tusks boosting chanting was a bless, sadly gone now.
    I don't think T-tusks should be good at melee. We have everything else for that. Buffing and shooting is enough. But their unique monster ability should be when not charging, like the Alvagr Ancient mount trait they scrapped, and maybe on a 2+.
    I like Yhetees. You can have 39 models of them (13 units if you don't reinforce), invisible all the way up to charging distance. Probably not going to be a meta list, but hey.. why so serious? ;)
    Icebrow Hunter can be priest when general. Use Heal or Pulverising Hailstorm, Arcane Tome, an endless spell and stay outside of 12" for invisibility. Cheap annoyance.
    Frost Sabres... are just pure waste of points. The only scenario you bring them, is if you use Icebrow Hunter to spend only 240 points on battleline. I can't think of a situation where this pays off, though. :D

    • @HeyWoah

      There are some prominent SoB players in my discord that would have more exact advice than a yt comment could give. The spoiler for next season temporary rules seem horrifying for an SoB player, but luckily those are only for 6mo

    I know this is an old video but id be really interested in knowing what you'd do to fix thundertusks.
    I think theyre in my top five aos models and definitely my favorite model in ogorawtribes.
    Would it be as simple as giving them better, reliable melee damage and changing their ranged attack to be more akin to dragon breath attacks so they can actually do mortal wounds to elite units?
    Id be really interested to know what you think

    I'm a new player and haven't painted much for warhammer, would these guys be an army that a beginner could pick up? I do love their look and playstyle. Ogres are cool

    • @HeyWoah
      @HeyWoah  Год назад +1

      Ogors will be slightly more difficult to paint considering there is a lot of skin, but they're supposed to be ruddy and dirty so mistakes blend well. It's a fine starter army game-wise, with a simple initial plan, but a surprising skill ceiling (which you want, as you'll grow into it and don't want to get bored if the army is too easy).

    • @dunktruck

      What would be a good way to start them? I'm thinking 500 points would be a good start, and then what should I look for after that? Sorry for all the questions but I really do appreciate the help

    Looking at these guys I think Ogors biggest issue balance wise is that things have to be costed around the factions impact hit mechanics. They kinda have to be mediocre in combat because they have an insane ceiling for damage every time they make a charge.

    Great work! Question on the vulture shooting attack, if I am in combat does the vulture have to go into the unit I am stuck in combat with or can I send him off to give a MW to anyone on the table?

    • @HeyWoah
      @HeyWoah  Год назад +3

      It is not a shooting attack because it doesn't have a ranged weapon profile. It is just an ability, and as such it follows no shooting rules.

    What a great insight, thank you a lot. As an almost-beginner in this expensive hobby I want to ally both fun and good. When I read the battletome I was mostly happy about the changes but with some warscrolls I watched them and I said : Why GW did that ? Why a Tyrant, litterally the most powerful ogor of the tribe has so few attacks ? Why the Bloodpelt hunter hits on 4+ with already very few attacks... Why the thundertusks profile is SO bad while having such a cool model? Why Mournfangs aren't better considering their cost and the same units we can find in other battletomes? I still enjoy this army and I will play it because ogors are such a cool theme. Thanks to your review I will maybe avoid some useless frustration against OP lists. Thank you and have a wonderful year 2023 HeWoah !

    You. You Hey Woah. Answer this. Should I abandon 40K for AoS? AoS seems really cool and I don’t have an army. I know a ton of 40K lore and AoS keeps whispering to lure me. Do you think it’s worth looking much into to abandon 40K?

    • @HeyWoah
      @HeyWoah  Год назад +1

      So I don't play 40k and don't know much about it beyond the setting, which is way better than AoS'. But Game-wise and community-wise I'm very happy with my choice, and the more I observe the more confident I am.
      However, the way local scenes and friend groups work, you should probably choose the game people around you play, logistically. Although getting into the game at the same time as friends is the ideal way to go.

    Dang, well, after an extended hiatus of NIT playing Warhammer Fantasy (yeah, AOS used to just be called “warhammer” or “Warhammer Fantasy”, I’ve decided to get back into the game. I initially chose Ogor Mawtribes but after watching your video (v, v controversial…) I have decided to look elsewhere for an army that GW cares more about than Ogors. Thanks for the detailed review!

      For Old World players I guess, but I have less than no interest in a rank and flank game. I thought WHFB was awful to be honest.
