@@ryancooney9361 I think that seeing old orks in non eavy metal paintjobs also completely changes their vibe. I didn't really like them either until I did a grimdark trukk commission and now I have a rust-bucket, mad max themed army
My wife and I play age of sigmar and 40k. She is super into aos and she told me that the reason she loves aos so much is because every army is different. Yeah 40k has elves and dwarves, but they're still space marines. They have power swords, plasma guns, ect. But aos you have demons and dinosaurs ect. It made me like aos alot more even before seeing this video.
I personally feel like Karamazov and the Baneblade are the epitome of an okay model being propped up by nostalgia and a gigantic heap of memes via Dawn of War and TTS.
the baneblade is good *if* its gets to shoot, but despite being a gigantic tank its actually really fragile unless you are That Guy and bring it to a 750-1000 point game or something where people dont bring a lot of anti-armour units. Ive had my Baneblade die in a single round once vs Death Guard and vs Custodies
I really like what they did with Archaon. If they would have just put him on a horse he would barely stand out from chaos knights. I think the chaotic nature of the sculpt fits him and the huge mount is a nice way to increase his stature.
Was referred to your channel by a fellow painter who said you showed one of my models. What a treat seeing my Necron Seraptek Heavy Construct in your video! Glad the sculpt I put time in made it up there in the tier list lol!
I am very surprised that the Mortarchs (Neferata, Mannfred and Arkhan) did not make the list. Those flying abyssals of theirs are very menacing, each rider has their own slight variation, and they are still more or less flat at the top meaning the riders can pull enough attention to themselves. I personally think they are very striking. :)
not the only undead centerpieces to miss out, either. mortek crawler, Radukar the Beast, Lauka-Vai/Vengabus, & Lady Olynder can be easily categorized as centerpieces. & if sigvald/Rowboat/Abbadon count (and I think they should), I'd say awlrach, Reikenor, Bella Volga, & the gothizzar harvester should, too. but there are so many models tou could call centerpieces, and the edited down video is already over an hour long, so wacha gonna do.
Awesome vid :) the 40k forgeworld models are all 100% stinkers IMO. I feel like you may have missed some of the best 40k sculpts, like Riptides, Ghostkeels, Wraithknights, the Talos, the Hunta Rig, and IMO the faction custom terminators like Blight lord Termis and Scarab Occult Termis.
The tanks of the humans looking old is kinda 40K's aesthetic, it kinda has that gothic/steampunk vibe. Just look at the landraider, it looks like a WW1 tank. (A lot of the modern (futuristic) technology got lost after some huge conflicts in the times before the story takes place).
well innovation was heresey before they had cawl spent 10 000 years in a cave making primaris marines emerging and taking control of the mechanicus and remembering all the old tech so they could make new models again with more exciting tech. so the old imperiums entropy and each plasma gun being a holy relic because they cannot make new ones and who cares that it can only fire one shot every 5 min due to a bad motivator? Cawl just remembers everything they forgot and can make new "relics" and tell them he remembers an improved version. circumventing the ban on innovation since all designs are perfect and the way the machine god wanted them to be.
Yea, but you have such a fantastical proposition that just ends up being boring. If 40000 years we still use ww2 tanks as our heavy hitters? Even the knights are goofy looking in the worst way. If you want steampunk but in the future the skitari do a great job. It just feels like AoS is creative more often than not. 40K feels boring more often than not.
As someone who plays both 40k & AoS (and is a dedicated necrons player in 40k), I feel like the Voiddragon is cooler than it got credit for here...but I audibly lol'd infront of people at work when you called the Monolith an X-Box One 😆. That's what I'm calling it forever now...
While scrolling down Adepta Sororitas, commenting on tanks, you missed the Exorcist: The on non-stupid little tank in 40k! (And actually a bit of a centerpiece)
The thing that people like about the Imperial Guard, I think, is that they are (relatively) normal human beings in a universe full of alien horrors and genetically modified giants in power armor. Their aesthetic of a futurized mix of WW1, WW2, Vietnam (the Catachans), and current military works with their appeal as the underdog faction who pulls out a few victories with grit, sacrifice, and heavy artillery bombardments. It's not that Guard players would rather be playing Bolt-Action. It's that Guard players want their Bolt-Action troops to go up against the terrors of the dark distant future and win every once in a long while. Also... they stopped putting multiple turrets on tanks after WW1 because it actually doesn't work well (with current technology), but it looks awesome and so we get to do it in our science fantasy game. Anyway, aesthetics are pretty subjective. I'm happy to have HeyWoah riff on my army because he's funny and it's a frickin game.
The Baneblade is exciting because it’s a very big tank! 40K doesn’t really have that sci fi tech (at least the humans).. they still have guns for example..
Not to be bias, but as someone who played 40k and now is solely AoS (outside of skirmish territory) one of the many reasons I moved over was the models. Sure Mortarion and some others are epic, but even on the non-centerpiece level the models are on average great for AoS nowadays.
Really enjoyed this video. If I fully played the Imperial Guard, I would get modern-day tanks for my army since they look a hell of a lot better. The Israeli Merkava tank looks very sexy. The British Challenger tank is outright solid
That's weird, HeyWhoa said the Soul Grinder looks like something from Doom II to explain why it is trash, instead of the reason why it belongs in S tier.
It hurt to say, on a certain level, but this is what it means to be honest instead of nostalgia braining. I love doom 2, but the sprites were made in the early 90s out of clay and plastic toys.
Ya know why didn’t they just make the DreadKnights a special version of the Grey Knight Dreadnought? Made unique for the chapter, enclose the whole thing and it’s golden.
What about the Hekaton Land Fortress? Kind of closest thing to a centerpiece for the Leagues of Votann. I like it but I can kinda understand why someone wouldn't. Would also kinda be fun to see a tier list for the 30k Primarchs (don't forget Horus Ascendant!), I don't think you're into 30k but some of those models look pretty cool and some are just sorta off.
It looks like a science rover research vehicle, I think it's cool. I did a primarch tierlist but didn't make a vid since angel man and green man were okay I guess and the rest were boring and weird.
I like the landfortress but it also confuses me. Someone on the ork buggy team knows cars well. Despite all their orky weirdness, the cars have drive trains, suspension, transmissions and roll cages that would work. I can also identify which real-world engine inspired each buggy's engine. The land fortress on the other hand has an extremely prominent roll cage that only protects already enclosed portions of the vehicle. Was the car person on vacation during Votann time?
This video is the best. So glad I subscribed oh so long ago, even though I never got into Age of Sigmar. I AM getting heavy into 40k, thanks to Mike lending me a 3D printer in 2020 (took awhile to print/paint/find friend to play with/print 2nd, army for friend to play with). Keep it up man. I'll have to show you some of my models next time you're in Chicago for a convention or something. I was laughing my butt off when you critique the ork models. I literally build ork mecha out of trash, paint them, and play them on the table.

Me when HeyWoah trashes 40k ork aesthetics, Tzeentch birds, and the badass saurus warrior on the back of the carnosaur: It's pistols at dawn, then. To be honest, as much as I hate IG stuff for just being boring WW2 aesthetic in space, the Baneblade gets points for being a comically oversized tank, so it manages to still fit in the 40k universe. Like it was in the Manta picture you pulled up, and considering the Manta is basically the size of the battlefield, it manages to still look pretty huge. So, you know, I don't like tanks, but I give it a B tier rating. Also you were kinder to Magnus than I would have been. Which is funny because Thousand Sons are my favorite army aesthetically. I really thought they'd have a book by now, but GW does as it wants when it wants, sadly. At least the track record for 3rd ed books has so far been great, so next year maybe gits finally get their due?
@@HeyWoah I can guess why they haven’t released the book yet. Total war 3 came out and they wanted ogre, chaos, and Lumineth sales, so put the others to the side that are a lot more dire with their battle tomes. I guess as well they can look at the balance themselves, and with the twice annual balance, they could see what works with them first with tinkering in the actual release of these rules instead of being in a closed testing environment. Last game I played them, I tried a goblin list and it was awful. The daughters of Khaine army juiced up, and charged quite literally right into me and had everything gummed up and doing no damage. Mollog got sniped across the map (due in part to me forgetting look out sir as my opponent didn’t think it was a thing, go figure) and my other fellwaters got dinked by ranged. Did get off a 12 inch charge first roll with my shootas though before I conceded, was wicked.
With you on the summary at the end. If I had to fight you on one thing I would say that the plastic Great Unclean One has too much negative space and looks too clean. It certainly doesn't look as disturbing as the FW resin one, which still holds up perfectly with his boily leathery skin.
I have to agree with some of these though, Morathi is at this very moment tempting me into playing Daughters of Khaine Lol, some of these are not centerpiece models
As someone who doesn't collect minis can someone explain the difference between plastic and resin as i have seen people moan about resin a lot but i dont know why
A cheaper, low quality material to make models out of for the most part. More brittle, can sag. Needs more cleaning, has a slightly rough slightly porous surface that takes paint differently than good plastic. Finecast is a much worse type of resin.
Regarding tzeentch aesthetic, idk how you take the idea of "bird knowledge demon" and skip past the motif of Moloch the creepy all knowing owl to go with blue raspberry turkey vulture ?
Because Gw is creatively bankrupt with Tzeentch, instead of utilizing the ancient scholar mystic or the eldritch horror theme, that's present in some of the Tzeentchian line, they opt for the lazy bird copy and paste. As for the Moloch motif, it wouldn't make much sense, Moloch is historically depicted as a bull, to which you sacrifice children to, as well as being particularly violent in much literature featuring him or other Esoteric magicks. I've always seen Tzeentch more as Beezlebub, for the latter is very knowledgeable in secrets, while being the prince of Demons fits, Tzeentchs role in fantasy as the once mightiest chaos God. As for the others God's I think Moloch fits Khornes blood thirst better, while Nurgle is most certainly Belphegor, and Slannesh is a archetypal Satan character with his temptations of pride and flesh, though Belial fits this also, being hedonistic.
Some Tzeentch models look and feel like Del Toro creatures. This is them at their most interesting. Otherwise it's marshmallow goop and bird head too much filigree humans and I sleep.
I know he's legends but vorgaroth deserves an entry as a pretty good forgeworld model and a sick dragon. Just have to ignore the mashed potato rider he has
I haven’t been in the hobby for long so I could be completely off the mark, but to me it seems like 40k models are so hit or miss cause of the aging. AoS: 2015-present. 40k: 1987-present. A lot more room to age badly, while at least by the time AoS came out GW SHOULD know how to make a decent model. Surprisingly I like the old ork look, just because of how utterly stinky they are, it’s hilarious. Reeks of the 90s lmao. I should note that I prefer 40k in general, not that I don’t enjoy AoS, but objectively AoS has way more consistent quality, while of course 40k is either S or F tier.
I thought you were going to be biased towards the AoS centerpieces because that's what your channel is about - but no, I agree with pretty much everything! ...Weird how 40k has such a weak centerpiece game in comparison, despite being the more popular game. Games Workshop really showed put in a lot of love and effort for the AoS models.
AOS all day any day it doesnt take 5 hours to play... you dont need 10 books of reference material you have actions on your opponents turn and theres not a lot of feel bads expet being double turned by Giants
"On black dragon" makes me sad. European dragons CAN look good, just look at fatalis! The guy is the most "just a dragon" I've ever seen and still rocks! 6:36 facts 1 8:00 facts 2 9:03 facts 3 15:35 cake 41:39 ghaz 56:57 hehe
Would it help to know that a lot of the designs aren’t ripoffs of StarCraft and it’s the other way around. Was supposed to be a warhammer game but the company pulled out at that last minute and they had to slightly alter everything
True, but you can't coast on that forever. In the 20 years since, GW has borrowed from blizzard art almost as much as the other way around, which renders this moot for me. Especially keeping in mind 40k and WH each massively ripped off what came before them (alien, dune, star wars, terminator, tolkien, etc). End of the day, I care about how cool it looks today.
The most I've ever seen of that is that it was a rumour that Warcraft was going to be a Warhammer Fantasy game but the idea of humans fighting orcs isn't a particularly unique idea to Warhammer. Starcraft came out after that and was basically just Aliens + Starship Troopers, the reason stuff like Tyrannids look so similar to Zerg is because they were ripping off the same thing (and also GW leant more into that aesthetic as opposed to their earlier 2nd edition Tyrannid designs). Likewise Protoss are Stargate mixed with the Predator and little touch of area 51-style greys. Sci-fi and fantasy are basically both very incestuous settings, any new series is pretty much just a homunculus of whatever movies, shows, comics, and games that the designers grew up consuming and/or came out during the development period.
Your objective truths are correct again. Well done. Especially the S-Cows (Spirits of the mountain), that got their way into S after the sleepover, i guess.
I don’t like the latest keeper of secrets either. I like the original one from 1988 or so.. I found that more interesting and demonic. Just a demon monster, different from the Khorne one.
Can't say the results for "most good looking centerpieces" is especially surprising. As a 40k player, the army centerpieces are either fantastic or look like deep fried ass.
lol Its funny hearing you hate on the Ork aesthetic (its fine everyone has different tastes) because no offence but you look and sound like many a die hard ork fan I have met over the years.
I feel like an absolute degenerate for pointing this out: Is this this the "S tier sound" the fkin melody moan? ruclips.net/video/RZdwgvbL1HQ/видео.html
The newer Ork sculpts are a lot better for leaning more into the mad Max cool guy aesthetic, but the older stuff just looks like silly literal garbage. The 90s nostalgia is the only reason I think the previous ones have fans, I mean the old boyz are unironically popping their white girl asses out lol.

Am missing the mortis engine.
Personally I think it looks quite awesome.
With you on the summary at the end. If I had to fight you on one thing I would say that the plastic Great Unclean One has too much negative space and looks too clean. It certainly doesn't look as disturbing as the FW resin one, which still holds up perfectly with his boily leathery skin.
I have to agree with some of these though, Morathi is at this very moment tempting me into playing Daughters of Khaine
Lol, some of these are not centerpiece models
And now i cant not see a bloodthirster on a swing
As someone who doesn't collect minis can someone explain the difference between plastic and resin as i have seen people moan about resin a lot but i dont know why
A cheaper, low quality material to make models out of for the most part. More brittle, can sag. Needs more cleaning, has a slightly rough slightly porous surface that takes paint differently than good plastic. Finecast is a much worse type of resin.
That makes sense, thank you for explaining
What’s with the dislike of birds? The Changer of Ways is not pleased
I hate birds, they are loud and they shriek. But I try to factor that in to my ratings because it's pet peeve.
Man paint jobs can really make things look way better then the model does
My man woke up today and had a hit piece on orks😢 but in all serious great video. 👍
Mortarion does it for me, holyyyy what a model
surprised dankhold troggoth wasn't on this
Today i learned there is a named character alternative build for a Keeper of Secrets. Huuuuh?
AOS all day any day it doesnt take 5 hours to play... you dont need 10 books of reference material you have actions on your opponents turn and theres not a lot of feel bads expet being double turned by Giants
krondys does have to anthro of a face.
Tip for using phoneline jokes, always use 555!
straight up anti nurgle bias here
I'm a 40k guy but AoS has the better models all round.
"On black dragon" makes me sad. European dragons CAN look good, just look at fatalis! The guy is the most "just a dragon" I've ever seen and still rocks!

Certified Large List
Another banger! Thanks HeyWoah
The Phantom is one of my favorites but it’s okay still love you tho 🥲
You should rate the lords and big single entitles from the total war games.
@@HeyWoah fair was just stating in case it changed your opinion a bit lol
Hey its my website!
What happened to the Mutalith Vortex Beast?
My takeaway from this is that is HeyWoah were to play 40k he would pick necrons
How dare you rate the asstreus higher than the bandeblade
Magnus still gets no love.
Your objective truths are correct again. Well done. Especially the S-Cows (Spirits of the mountain), that got their way into S after the sleepover, i guess.
good shit as always man
I don’t like the latest keeper of secrets either. I like the original one from 1988 or so.. I found that more interesting and demonic. Just a demon monster, different from the Khorne one.
Big, huge even
these are all pretty solid placements, hats off to you
I had no idea HeyWoah was a ATP enjoyer, love to see it you stoner. lol
hey alright
I've never seen a tier-list more offensive.
Anyone know where the soundbites are from?
I think I've seen comments that mention their sources, but mostly I put them in as easter eggs
which one were you looking for ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@@HeyWoah Trash and A tier.
It's bad that I already know where S is from 👀
Trash is Lord Aris talking about anime, A is Pinky and the Brain
@@Questioningbasics what’s the S one from?
My ass kept getting woken up from half sleep to some girl moaning in my ear 😂
You bring up a very strong point: Americans in general feel nothing about war. Nothing at all. The GWOT and the Afghanistan withdrawal proved it.
how man one man be so wrong about everything
Can't say the results for "most good looking centerpieces" is especially surprising. As a 40k player, the army centerpieces are either fantastic or look like deep fried ass.
Disagreeeee
Putting Lord of Change in meh tier.
In bird culture that is considered a dick move
AOS does.
The new giant tier? Meh?
King Brodd and the Beast Pounder guy? Same place as the other Megas, +1 for cooler weapon -1 for worse face than beard guy.
Thank you, very based
lol Its funny hearing you hate on the Ork aesthetic (its fine everyone has different tastes) because no offence but you look and sound like many a die hard ork fan I have met over the years.
I feel like an absolute degenerate for pointing this out: Is this this the "S tier sound" the fkin melody moan? ruclips.net/video/RZdwgvbL1HQ/видео.html
Who's that?
@@HeyWoah ... Well played sir.
awesome!
Big turtle
Dreadknights look cool.
Ace 👏
The newer Ork sculpts are a lot better for leaning more into the mad Max cool guy aesthetic, but the older stuff just looks like silly literal garbage. The 90s nostalgia is the only reason I think the previous ones have fans, I mean the old boyz are unironically popping their white girl asses out lol.
*insert hate comment here*
Big
You leave Magnus alone he did nothing wrong! Warcraft as a whole is a Warhammer rip off lol
