Versys 300 owner here I swapped the front sprocket from a 14t to a 15 tooth, the gears are longer, the bike makes less perceivable torque, still, even in the steepest hills, i rarely use 1st gear, keep in mind, if you use smooth tyres, they won't grab the dirt very well, giving you less sensation of torque, still, if you twist the throttle hard, the rear wheel will spin because the bike does make enough power in low revs, using 1st gear even with the longer gears is something to be careful of, the bike sends a little too much power to the rear tyre, it can be fun unless you're in a very uncomfortable situation, like loose fine dust on a corner on an uphill, that's where you don't want your rear wheel to spin, i use 2nd gear at most if i want to control the torque on my bike, maybe i use 1st gear in less than 1% of the roads I've ever ridden. I'm not saying it's as strong as a CRF, but the commentary is misleading because it makes you believe it's a weak bike that needs to use 1st gear a lot.
I went through this process on my own and ended up with a '19 Himalayan Non-ABS. The Versys is as you described. The 310 felt like a BMW poser. Like buying a Mustang with a 4 cylinder engine. The Royal Enfield just felt right from the first 10 feet. I rode it first, and then rode it last and that made up my mind. Closing in on 1000 miles in 1 month and enjoying it more and more. If you desire to ride US interstates or many single track trails it is not the bike for that. If you stay within its limitations you will have a lot of fun with this bike.
Already i have done 2 trip north Sikkim & east Sikkim by Himaliyan..It's a just amazing bike i am really happy to buy that motorcycle...Supper comfort....
After owning a cl 350 for a long period of time i have recently exchanged it for RE HIMALAYAN ABS, and for the past 3 weeks i have been testing its potential, and to my suprise ,its doing great. And i dont kno why complaining about speed in tours, we dont need that. The best part is its simplicity and the second part is its super easy to wash. If you have done offroading you will understand what i m saying. All around performance, i d say go for himalayan.
I can totally relate to this shift of mind.... Although I'm not going as far end as you are .... I've selling my RC390 and moving on to an Interceptor650.
This is the right way to do an automobile review. Unlike some channels which prefer making power movies with unnecessary high tech editing which have nothing to do with the automobile in the first place.
Re got sales marketing bcoz of this bullets seen only in Himalayas. Rest it's a heavy crude bike. You can do ladak trip much easy on a Honda unicorn. With some mods on the Honda bike it's really easy to ride. Rest yr wish .
The Himalayan is a tall heavy bike .. Don't get carried away with the looks.. The only best thing in it is the soft suspension.. It still lacks refinement!! I bet you after completing you will feel happy with your light weight unicorn or fz 150cc.. Once you do one river crossing you will know.. And the best is milage of ur bike ..
bikash anand what bomb man ? 411 cc engine. heating is heavy then just think about 650 cc u will run away. cc is enough for himalayan little bit torque cud be increased and built quality of product. thats it then riders are happy with this price tag
I wish royal enfield could come up with a more equipped version of the himalayan , like mobile phone companies do. A Himalayan PRO sort of bike with switchable abs/traction control, little bit more power, and optional alloys plus tubeless tyres combo. liked the review though. it's time Autocar took care of us bikewallas as well.
I appreciate that you lot aren't just tarting up the Himalayan; As simplistic as this sounds, the bike is what it is. Not many frills, fairly simple, not hugely refined but for the price it is easily the most capable bike in this segment. At the end of the day, it's about getting you there and back in relative comfort, and as a new Himalayan owner myself I can say that the 1100km I've ridden since my purchase 12 days ago have all been comfortable and satisfying. Even the 2019 US spec model has it's quirks (nothing that isn't easily mended), but the bike is ultimately worth every bit of money I paid for it, and quite a bit more. The saddle is very accomodating, and at 186cm tall I flat foot the bike with my knees slightly bent. Calling the bike stable is a huge understatement. Due to the weight all being so low, it's also easy to right if you accidentally tip the bike on it's side on a trail, and with the extra torque vs. it's competition being delivered at low revs, the bike is ideal for carrying gear. I couldn't be happier with the purchase and am looking forward to getting it fully broken in so I can start throwing power modifications at it ;)
It's weird man.. for the rest of us , the versys x comes with two panniers. I did some reading, apparently India law requires the left side be guarded. I'm guessing side sitting passenger safety 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️.
I own honda cbr 250r and RE classic 350 gunmetal but i sold my classic 350 after 3 yeras and now booked himalayan bs6, So excited to drive the adventure and tourer bike
When I was a kid, i used to think that RE is nothing but bullet and i never liked bullet but now the time has changed. I love the Himalayan and their 650 twins. One of my riding buddies own a Himalayan "BS3" and he never complained about that bike despite doing a trip from Patiala to Jaisalmer twice and nothing happened to it.
My brother bought a Himalayan back in 2018, and one thing we've both noticed is that thing will take a beating like no other bike. My DR650 was my gold standard for a motorcycle that won't die, but it's quickly becoming unseated by the Himalayan.
I don't know about Indian market, but the new euro-american version called BS 4 (or something like that) has solved the main problem of the Himalayan i.e. not switchable ABS. And now, it's much better than the BMW whose engine has 0 torque under 5000 rpm and for that reason really sucks
Hi, hope your never never ridden other Two bikes, Explicitly the GS. you will prove yourself wrong when you take a spind for Day long on Trails and Highway. While Himalayan is also super good Now!!. Cheers.
A 650 is going to weight more requiring stronger frame, upgraded suspension, bigger/better brakes, etc. If they can keep the weight down low and manage the extra heat well it should be a big seller in the US. I am glad I got a '19 non-ABS version. It is the 3rd bike in my stable and low cost to buy and own. I don't try to pretend it is something it isn't and when used within its limitations it is a fantastic motorcycle.
One of the best test ride videos I’ve ever seen! Flawless commentary with just the right amount of sarcastic wit. Relevant valid assessments and real world judgment. I want more of that ....thanks. Carl E.from Texas
Is Himalayan a practical bike for the daily commute in heavy traffic conditions, apart from touring and off roads? I see many reviews saying it gets heated up a lot and not suitable for city rides..
I have a 2017 kawasaki versys x300 and I have had it off road. Yes the seat sucks fix = seat concepts cover and foam I weigh in at 260 and find the ride is somewhat hard so I call bs on to soft. and aside from tires the grip is ok just don't get into mud or soft sand but i will be fixing that with tires this year. so where is the honesty?
Himalayan sure had a bad start.. The BS 3 version had a lot of issues.. Everyone agrees.. But the BS 4 version is a real gem of a bike.. Simple looks, purposefully built.. And best bike in India to tackle any kind of trails.. And not to mention the affordability factor. Plus with a 4 years of extended warranty, every part that could go kaput is taken care by RE including the labour charges.. So don't you think its a well put out bike and a real offroader from RE.
Bmw has alternator starter n battery issues.. most of the owners report same thought to sell off my himalayan and wanted to downgrade to bmw but the reviews n ownership experience had me keep my himalayan
Himalayan is just a amazing bike to ride. But there is problem in its steering ball racer. I rode 9000 km on it & has changed ball racer 2 times. Otherwise milage is just awesome, top speed is not very fast but very good for indian road. Another thing is, may be it's only 24.5 hp bike, but it gets 32 nm torque in lower rpm that's quite amazing. It helps a lot in our high Himalayan terrain & good thing is RE provides conventional halogen lamp which is far better in any case. Overall it's a good package in low budget.
Himalayan wins by far, essy to use every day, suficient for long rides, super awesome at off road and the best part "the price" The other two... Rest in peace. Himalayan rules... For ever. Saludos desde Cancún México.
versys is in a class of its own for shorter indian riders. the build quality it better than the TVS BMW bike and literally has no vibrations. not to mention that its a proper screamer compared to the singles. I guess you get what you pay for, the exception being the TVS BMW in this case.
If i were a 19 year old who has to ride a lot of offroads and speed breakers and bad broken road, likes do adventure trips then yes this bike is in reach to many indians. It has opened a hole new ground to a new biking era of offroaders. Instead of paying some 4lkh for a bmw which cant do what this little marvel can do. Many foreign biker youtubers and subreddit says that bigger BMW bikes is highly unrelialible and of overpriced fancy that won't last. As well as the Apache RR 310 has been diagnosed with so many issues and most of them engine related. Is BMW will be a better buy given that RE could literally launch 650 Himalayan for less price than the Bimmer?
You pay for what you get, although the beamers are not exactly value for money but they are offer good feel when ridden. Seat is super comfortable, suspension is super friendly, abs off button is always welcome on a begginer level adv motorcycle and is very agile. It is a well packaged bike despite its cost. Although the 650 twins are cheaper and offer more punch in performance, the comfort and premiumness of the motorcycle seems wanting.
Considering EU market, Himalayan losses its advantage of lower price comparing to the others. I have bought G310GS only 400€ more expensive than Himalayan.
RE just needs to refine the Himalayan. And up the switchgear quality. Add fuel injection. Get better brakes. It will be a winner. It’s very very competent off road.
Royal Enfield Himalayan Run by itchy boots was a perfect on field test of any bike. It stays beauty off its competitors. The pride of Indian is another attached height. The roar of it is impeccable. THE BEST choice for adventure.
Learn adventure touring on himalayan and save money and if your pocket allow then switch to a mid premium adventure touring bike such as versys 650 or tiger
I think I would like the Himalayan except for one thing. It looks like almost everyone’s knees touch the tank at that sharp edge at the front of the knee cut outs. At 6 feet tall I’m sure this would be quite uncomfortable for me.
Hey brother thank you fof the review! Can i please get your opinion? Which would be more comfortable for highway use? 2017 suzuki dr 650 or 2017 kawasaki versys 300x Cheers.
Your english is perfect Sir and you do a nice presentation, you say the Versys is the worst of the 3 but it cost the most? fire the sleepy guy he dont have no desire to help the show.
Himalayan is best because it is less price and still good performance. Worthy to money. BMW and Kawasaki are above 3L rupees so only they providing good service.
Dear Rishad, A question!!! I'm an owner of Classic 350 for the last 3years and I've done close to 30,000kms. But as I'm 6ft1', I'm feeling back and shoulder pain due to the ergonomics of the bike; May I upgrade to Himalayan in the perspective of comfort? Another question, how different is the fuel economy of Himalayan compared to Classic 350? Thank You Rishad.
You are not getting back ache because you are six feet plus. You are getting it because it is a bullet 350 or even 500 for that matter. I am 5 feet 6" tall and started riding the bullet electra 350 when I was 23 years old. I never had any back problems prior to the bullet. By the second month of riding the bullet I was inflicted with severe back pain. I still rode for a year and then sold it along with the the back ache to another person. It is not just the geometry of the bike it is a mix of different characteristics like suspension on the then bad roads , vibration from the engine that could have contributed to the back ache As for the Himalayan I have no first hand experience so I reserve my judgement on this. I am taking a test drive of the Himalayan next week.

I'm from the US and I still want the Himalayan. BMW cost too much. Kawasaki is a underpowered street bike.
Ha!
Your main critisism of the versys is that its boring?
Wring its neck all the time. It loves it!
Love from Karnataka ♥️ ♥️
Bro I think something is missing ah get it ktm 390adv and xpulse
What a great comparison! Not many people compared all 3 at the same time!
Royal enfield please launch a 650cc himalayan 🤞
now yall do this comparo again after adding in xpulse200! would love to see how well it fares against himalayan 🙈
G310 Gs is perfect as i only want the stance of an off roader and the performance of a street bike. Looks of G310 GS cannot be competed with.
Tq for your review.. I'm a Himalayan owner
That’s a fantastic review. Thanks a ton!
Plz do the 2020 vertion for this video with the BS6 Models
Kawasaki being parallel twin has more power and better refinement and smoothness..😎But Himalayan is still the budget beast...❤
Loved the narration...
I think Himalayan should get the twin 650
Thanks for making us wiser that the flashiest, most expensive is not the best
That was a great video! Good information and funny!
Is Himalayan comfortable for 5.3 foot rider
I think I would like the Himalayan except for one thing. It looks like almost everyone’s knees touch the tank at that sharp edge at the front of the knee cut outs. At 6 feet tall I’m sure this would be quite uncomfortable for me.
Keith Petersen
I am also 6ft and the Himalayan is super comfy. Can go all day with only a few leg stretches.
Last shot was coolll...
Thanks a lot really longing for this video
Hey brother thank you fof the review!
Can i please get your opinion?
Which would be more comfortable for highway use?
2017 suzuki dr 650 or
2017 kawasaki versys 300x
Cheers.
Your english is perfect Sir and you do a nice presentation, you say the Versys is the worst of the 3 but it cost the most? fire the sleepy guy he dont have no desire to help the show.
That finishing moment ♥️
Himalayan is best because it is less price and still good performance. Worthy to money. BMW and Kawasaki are above 3L rupees so only they providing good service.
Who’s watching this during the lockdown period !!!
Dear Rishad,
A question!!!
It is not just the geometry of the bike it is a mix of different characteristics like suspension on the then bad roads , vibration from the engine that could have contributed to the back ache
As for the Himalayan I have no first hand experience so I reserve my judgement on this. I am taking a test drive of the Himalayan next week.
Bmw 310 is the best in that compares... Bmw is soo heavy bike.. Like a premium 1000 cc off road bikes...
RE HIMALAYAN IS GENUINELY PRICED WITH DECENT PERFORMANCE. AFTER CLASSIC 350 AND INTERCEPTOR 650 MY NEXT ONE IS HIMALAYAN IN FUTURE
