I agree with many others on this comment board. This is not a comparison. A comparison requires a clear set of criteria with scoring. There is no one bike you can suggest from 4 bikes you are attempting to compare. Look at the most important criteria - price. A huge price variance between these bikes. You are comparing a Hero BS6 with price of Rs 1.34 lakh on-road to KTM 390 Adventure with price of Rs 3.39 lakh to BMW 310 GS with price of 4.3 lakh to RE Himalayan price of Rs 2.28 lakh. You can't compare these bikes with a single statement that this is the bike to get. Not even with long shot.
It is cute that you are funny and sarcastic toward each other. Great entertainment but a lousy "Compare" pitch for a journalist magazine.
You, in India, are in very special place where there are many options for you to select when it comes to bikes. From dirt cheap to reasonable to unnecessarily expensive bikes that go too fast for Indian roads and use. I ride BMW's and Harley's in US. Last year I purchase a 2019 RE Himalayan BS4 in Mumbai as my India bike. I purchased it for one simple goal of riding every corner of India in next 5 years during my twice a year visit to Mumbai. I picked RE Himalayan based on my criteria for the riding conditions in India. My Himalayan will be taking me back once more to Spiti Valley next year as this years trip is canceled due to Covid-19.
Why I picked Himalayan? (1) cheap (2) it will take abuse (3) If I brake anything then I can fix it in any corner of India. Worst case I will hammer or weld broken part back on the bike (4) riding posture is perfect for seating and saddling positions. Bike fits me perfectly. I added a cheap handle bar risers for my need. I am 6 foot tall. (4) Parts are available everywhere and they are cheap as hell (5) Maintenance is easy. No fairing or plastics to take off. I learned to fix most common items and I also learned to replace consumable parts myself. There is not much electronics on the bike so repair can be done DIY style (6) It has spoke wheels. I can change my own tube, fix punctures in tubes, carry spare tubes as they are cheap as I carry 1 spare pair. In Nov 2019 I rode rough roads in Gujarat. I road 2500 kms in 5 days. It was the most fun I had riding anywhere. I had absolutely no issues (ZERO) with bike. (7) It has reasonable average and fuel capacity (8) accessories are cheap to purchase. I installed very reasonably priced saddle stays and quick detachable soft bags. I even installed bags to carry tools and emergency items on tank crash guards. We in US prefer soft luggage over hard when off road-ing. I absolutely loved carefree riding and abused the bike to its limits because I knew it would take the abuse and if something broke then I can get it fixed in matter of hours and get back on the road. You can't say that about more expensive bikes.
My pick is NOT your pick. Go test ride a bike. Looks and reviews are very deceiving. Draw a table grid on piece of paper. Write your most to least important requirements/criteria on column heading left to right. In row heading write down the bike model. Pick a simple "Meets" (1) and "Does not meet" (0) scoring. You must use absolute decision as you are not writing for these magazine review but making a real CASH spending decision. Do a little research online. Get most of the other answers by visiting showroom. Seat on the bike. Ask questions about parts, accessories, service cost - yes ask to see real invoice for service cost, ask what the consumable items cost, ask what is the cost to replace if I break this or that, ask to take a test ride, find someone and see if you can borrow the bike for few hours and take it out on a "real test ride", ask the bike owners for real cost of their service and repairs, if you borrow a bike then do something nice for them like buying them a dinner. Don't dish out lakh+ Rs on bike without first learning to love it. You can't love something with out personally knowing it. So get to know your purchase before you buy it.
In conclusion I would tell your viewers. You know your skills, you know how fat/lean is your wallet, you know what types of riding you want to engage in, and most importantly what is makes you happy. Do what makes you happy. Don't be taken up by reviews and comparisons. They are just another source of research if review is done objectively. Go ride these bikes. Beg and borrow bike for few hours and take it out in real world. Buying a bike is a big decision at a great personal sacrifice to you and your family. Motorcycle riding on streets or off road is fun. Buy a bike that fits your need. Buy a bike that makes you happy. Purchasing a wrong bike is a downer and good way to loose interest in this awesome past time. I am so happy to see young and old getting into weekend, touring, and adventure riding in India. I have traveled thousands of miles on my bikes across US. Now I will do the same in my native India for next 5 years. I hope to see you all out on the road next year.
Enjoy riding. Love it while you can.
    Take care and be safe.

KTM is relatively VFM as compared to the Baby Boomer (Beemer oops) but the Himalyan is still the more practical and affordable choice for many of us out there but it's high time that RE upgrades the bike and we want more power from the Himalyan. Atleast 32-33 Bhp and longer gearing and a sixth gear for the highway usage. I can andt definitely will compromise on features like tft display and led headlights. It needs more driveability features

For this they need to use High compression ratio engine, and because of this Himalayan will loss the low end Torque , Only solution is to get a bigger displacement engine i guess a 500cc will add up 5-10 bhp more
Which will increase comfortable crusing speed to 120-130 also will increase the low end Torque

U guys are speaking as journalists not as Riders who think on various other aspects, plus the suspension travel on Himalayan I guess is best in class, the parts are pretty damn economical on RE when compared to KTM or GS. Plus RE is rider friendly that is height wise as not all Indians are 6 feet tall to be comfortable at 855mm seat height. Plus a RE can be serviced in any nook and corner of the country unlike GS and KTM, I remember when we were riding to Leh we had a KTM whose struts were damaged and he had to go all the way to Chandigarh to get it replaced. So I guess u guys should do some real world Journalism than just giving your biased Feedback, sounded like a paid promotion by KTM on Overdrive.

I am scared and excited with the performance of KTM adventure 390 , the gearing will take sometime to get used to . I am disappointed with the quality and service of Royal Enfields , should I still go for Himalayan and compromise or with the KTM. My rides will mostly be to the hills near chandigarh and normal roads. Please suggest

Re Himalayan is still a crude engine bike and x pulse has a good set up with a low power engine.. Hero could have made it 300cc with 6speed gearbox. Himalayan is doing excellent media marketing but after buying the bike most riders are unhappy with the bike.. BMW is slightly better than xpulse... 390 takes the choice for the cost and best performance.. In India it's 90%road use and rarely off roads!!

To be honest XPulse is winning all the time in my opinion...becozzz it's just 200cc more over it is performing allround with irrespective of any segment (Daily commuting, Adventure, Off-road,Touring etc...
I think there is no degarade of Hero XPulse what u people spoken about that cozzit's jst 200cc engine & under 1.2.lakh on road price segemnt with lowest maintenance ....
Comparison to all this was the cheapest and budget & rider friendly for any classes.....
More over all bikes are 2lakhs + only on road pricing......
    RE Himalayan -400cc(2.34L)
    KTM Adv. - 390(2.98L)
    BMW GS - 310 (3.49L)
By comparing ex-showroom price now you get answer for comparison....

My piggy bank is still on the RE.
When it got released there were issues which to an extent got ironed out. However that 'kalank' of bring 'underpowered' still stuck on...only untill other ADVish bikes got released. But Himalayan is still the most versatile in the lot. It can the 1 bike to do it all. Not everyone wants or can afford a different bike for a different purpose.
    Someday I'll get one...😅.
Hopefully it'll gain a few more horses by then...
But, that being said, the hero 300cc adv which may be launched in a year or 2, can beat the himalayan in versatility if they get the engine and price right.

@@DJ_Dhawz DOHC sounds better. I feel that 650 engine will oursell the rest in Meteore...
Himalayan will too heavy with the 650 engine. So they'll have to beef up the chasis...so more weight. Then 47 ps will not make so much sense. It'll be junk like the TRKs. If they use alloys in Chassis and suspention, it'll bump up the price.
