Love to see this deep dive into one of my favorite pedals ever. I went through a phase of buying and selling pedals. I bought and sold the hoof like 3 times. I bought and sold everything. Now I'm trying to put things back together rebuying my favorites, hoof was near the top
After years of trying at least 15 different versions of the muff circuit, I broke down and figured I'd see what all the hype was about and low and behold, it was magic. That last muff I will ever buy, hands down best fuzz I have ever played. There is really something magical about it. Plays well with any pickup or amp. Thanks Jamie and everyone that works at EQD for making this beautiful Fuzz circuit.
This video was released one day before I got my hoof, really got me in the mood to dive in it when it arrived! After a week giging and messing around with, it definitely became my favorite pedal. Thanks eqd! Greetings from Venice!
This is so awesome. My Hoof Reaper is an absolute monster, and I love it. I'd love to see a video on some of the more wild pedals that you guys do like the Rainbow Machine or Afterneath
Afterneath has to be the most awesome Earthquaker pedal. As famous as it is I still feel it's underrated. A good fuzz is like the Death Star, but the Afterneath is like the Force itself.
I remember testing diods, transistors, op amps etc... And I have no idea, what this could be good for. Now I want to return to test all my amps and pedals, guitar pickups 😁😁😁
Just got my first EQD pedal yesterday (Palisades). This is the first pedal I've felt an intimate connection with. I need more. I feel like the ultimate transcendence of a guitarist is to own every EQD pedal. This is now my mission.
Thanks, Joshua! Transcendence varies from rig to rig - pickup types, impedance, cable capacitance, true vs. buffered bypass, signal flow, gain staging, crystal positioning, aura types, etc., but we wish you the best of luck on your mission!
What’s crazy is I feel that with every EQD pedal. I have bought and played many and many pedals, but there’s nothin like getting a new EarthQuaker in and playin it for the first time
Awesome story! definitely one of my top ten pedals ever, incredible sounding, and fabricated to last years of heavy use, Earthquaker devices is a no brainer for me, i would buy any of your pedals with my eyes closed, period! cheers!
This is like the most awesome video/documentary on pedals I have ever seen! Consider some EarthQuaker pedals ordered in ... let's say 10 minutes!!! Greets from Germany ;)
This is nuts! Fellow gear nerds, please share this with those that claim pedal prices are an inflated ripoff. That production process is off the chain!
Thank you! Good gear is pricey, no doubt, but our goal is to be as efficient as possible so we can make the best pedals we can, make them as affordable as possible without sacrificing the quality, and continue to do so while still employing 50+ artists and musicians in downtown Akron. It's a lot to juggle, but good tone is worth it!
Ive never heard people say Earthquaker is overpriced. I've got 3 and I need more. To be honest, I find their prices quite good compared to the rest of the hand made pedal market. Like, honestly, all analog, hand made, life time warranty, amazing unique tones and sick art with one of the brightest LEDs on pedals, there is no better value on the market in my opinion. I was never the kind of guy that only uses one pedal brand but I could easily (and probably will in the future for the luls) have a board with exclusively earthquaker stuff. They even make a loop now so I wouldn't need to resort to a Boss line selector or something XD
This is awesome !! I love you EQD! You make the best pedals PS I lived most of my life in canton Ohio, it’s nice to see such creativity come out of my home state.
Afterneath is the best. It's like a gateway drug... I got mine in the summer of 2017, and now I'm planning to get my 9th Earthquaker this year when I can afford the Pyramids...
One of the true iconic pedals of the Pedalssance. I'd love to own one but as a bass player I went with the Cloven Hoof instead. Part of me still wants to own the regular Hoof just because it's so loved.
Thank you for this pedal. I use it for low gain into a DRRI, and it's by far the most touch responsive pedal I've come across. Clean to scream with only picking power!
This was awesome! Great video. I have had a Hoof on my board for about three years now and it's not going anywhere. My number one fuzz. It would be great if you did more videos about how others of your wonderful weird pedals go from idea to reality.
When I first heard the Hoof fuzz it was a demo several years ago by ProGuitarShop.com and I literally sat up in my chair and went "holy fuuuuck!"... and that's GOOD.
I just purchased my first earthquaker device, the hoof distortion pedal. Should arrive tomorrow, I'll use it with my bass. I first heard of this product from the band Pallbearer.
EarthQuakerDevices , You are welcome, I tried the Hoof Reaper, at the Melbourne Guitar Show, at the EarthQuaker Devices Booth, That Was an Experience, The Hoof but on Steroids, my mate was so impressed he wanted to buy one on the spot $420, but they only had the demo one Left, so Impressed, The Hoof Reaper is Fuzz Genius! Thank you!
@@EarthQuakerDevices I really like the graphics, it's easy for pedal designers to go wrong with that aspect of the process, but your stuff is always tasteful.
can't wait to build a prototyping board (send me one like yours!!!! :-).... love what you all do. afterneath was my first foray ( i think thats proper use of the word) into the darkside. hoof is next with avalanche run. thanks for what you all do!!!!
What's up with the gold version with the big white blob around the Hoof design? I've seen 2 like this, and it really looks like an accident or mistake. It IS pretty much the ultimate Muff, - there's a ton of takes on the idea, but I don't think any surpass it in terms of original concept.Have always wished it could be dialed back a little further, but I assume there's some limitations there.
I wish when there was an event where you can try the pedals there was more of a dedicated comfortable space, PLUS im lefty and there was an axe w a bigsby on it! I wanna buy some pedals, im just not sure wich ones. Let folks bring their own axes maybe?
I’d love one of these for the Rainbow Machine and Bit Commander. My favourite pedals on my board by miles, together and on their own. Earthquaker just seems like a bunch of really cool guys and that’s why I’d rather give them my money any other pedal company.
I mean, that's not quite how I was gonna say it...just kidding! Please email info@earthquakerdevices.com to troubleshoot and/or arrange for a repair for your Hoof. Thanks for watching!
The hoof will be my first fuzz pedal ever... Sometime next year. I'm still learning how to stack gain and other things of that nature, and fuzz is some next level stuff. I'm excited about working towards the hoof!
Judging by the schematic, the Hoof is much closer to a Ram's Head Big Muff compared to a standard Russian Big Muff. This explains why the pedal Jamie heard was cleaner and more articulate, because the Russian from Dan Auerbach has a layout which resembles a Ram's Head more than the contemporary Russian Muffs of the time.
It's a solder bath that solders the components in place before we begin the inspection & QC process. It helps us be more consistent from pedal to pedal.
GOOD marketing here guys, u make everyone look so personal. Maybe earthquaker devices is just a robotic assembly line owned by a reclusive miser and all these people u see are just ACTORS. Or maybe not, who knows?
Subscribe to our channel for more stuff like this!
This and the "EarthQuaker Devices // mini movie" from Knobs are extremely inspirational. I'd love to see more of these!
thanks for watching, Matthew!
Really nice to get a little of the history behind the company! You guys are RAD!

I thought I was the only one. Have done this with jaguars, jazzmasters and teles, too.
Very cool. 🤘
thanks!
Damn this is wholesome as shit and i am spoiling it with fucking swear words.

I build, design pedals. This is so inspiring. I've watched it three times now. Gotta nail my fuzz pedal down soon.
Thanks for watching, Scott! Good luck with that fuzz!
very cool! would love to see more of these types of videos. eqd does indeed rock!

pCeLobster I agree. Afterneath was my first EQD pedal, and while I love all the ones I've gotten since, I still say it's the best they've done so far.
That's so inspiring ... Would like to live this life definetly
Awww thanks guys this was RAD ! I only roc EQD ..I’m proud Quaker head ..it’s good to see from 330 to world wide baby spread that inspiration my G’s !
Glad I'm not the only Quaker head around here!

cheers!
Rad story!
Thanks! Y'all play a HUGE part in it!
This is why Jamie is the best takes the time knows his circuits finds the right combination it's made with love
true. he listens.
The signal generator and oscilloscope reminded me of physics lab in college. One of the few labs in college I actually enjoyed
I remember testing diods, transistors, op amps etc... And I have no idea, what this could be good for. Now I want to return to test all my amps and pedals, guitar pickups 😁😁😁
I really liked this! Very inspiring to see how the company has grown since the beginning.
thanks for watching!
Love this!!! And noticed an earthquake me devices back in a recent jack white video interview! 👌🏽
Great vid on the Hoof. I really dig what you guys do. Wishing you continued success
thank you!
I really enjoy all of your latest videos keep it up
thanks for watching, Larry!
Super interesting stuff, more please! Maybe how your craziest fx came to be?
mostly by accident. it'd be fun to cover in a future video, for sure.
Feel like the Rainbow Machine caused enough of a stir to warrant its own doc. Thanks for this one!
Earthquaker is an amazing company and the Hoof is my favorite pedal of all time. Completely transformed me as a musician.
Thanks, Jesse! Keep rockin'

You should have a video for each pedal!
you know what, we probably should. one down, forty-something to go.
EarthQuakerDevices id love to hear the story of the Rainbow Machine
Love my Hoof. It is on the “will never sell this pedal list.” Thanks for posting this and continued success with EQD

thanks! we hope to do more soon!
So cool. I have one EQD pedal so far: Afterneath. Love it. Can't wait to add a Data Corrupter.

Wow! Great to see and hear how it all began! Love my Acapulco Gold. I think the Hoof is next!
thanks for watching, Kyle!
Killer pedal I just got my hoof in the mail today. I can’t wait to get more eqd pedals! This video got me to buy the hoof!
happy new pedal day! glad you like the video and your Hoof!
The dispatch master is next

Please do a video on the origins/making of the Black Ash (My New Favorite Pedal)!
Awesome story!! I recently started owing some EQD pedals! Own the Avalanche Run V2, Afterneath V2, & Transmisser! Pretty awesome unique pedals!👏🏼☺️
thanks for watching!
Really want one of these. The Westwood is the only drive pedal I can't live without. Matching it with a Hoof feels like the right move.
When I first heard the Hoof fuzz it was a demo several years ago by ProGuitarShop.com and I literally sat up in my chair and went "holy fuuuuck!"... and that's GOOD.
"Oh I made that pedal."
That's gotta be a cool experience.

Awesome video. Keep it up guys, cheers. 🥂
4:51 spotted Pittsburgh Modular SV-1 & KB-1 on the desk! Man, I miss my SV-1. Such a clean and sharp synth.
I Love the Hoof, It's a Beast that can be Tamed but that's no fun, Awesome Pedal. Thank you!
Take care👍

This makes me want to hear those early pedals: Double Burning, Amp Hammer, Blaster Fuzz...
Can we see that in the future?
You never know what whacky stuff we are going to do next. Stay tuned for all the shenanigans. Thanks for your support over the years!
This shit is so awesome.
congrats
thanks for watching, Eduardo!
You should record a documentary about how you guys started to make your awesome reverb pedals.
I love my ghost echo, but I know nothig about it.
Super well done guys!
thank you!
Looks so cool with just the text and no graphics!! Can you do a run of those??
sure, but you gotta be a dealer and buy 25 of 'em
@@EarthQuakerDevices I really like the graphics, it's easy for pedal designers to go wrong with that aspect of the process, but your stuff is always tasteful.
Love the graphics and knobs on the pedals from 0:46 to 0:51
That was great, thank you for sharing this story.
This was super interesting thanks for sharing this!
It's our pleasure. Thanks for watching!
amazing little story! i don't have a hoof but i do own a Palisades and i love it to death!
Thanks for watching, Pablo! Glad you like the Palisades!
Very cool. More of these. Anyone know what the white guitar is at 3:43? It's a weird combo of awesomeness.
can't wait to build a prototyping board (send me one like yours!!!! :-).... love what you all do. afterneath was my first foray ( i think thats proper use of the word) into the darkside. hoof is next with avalanche run. thanks for what you all do!!!!

I WANT A DOCUMENTARY ON THAT 335 STYLE GUITAR WITH ALL THOSE SWITCHES!!!
More stuff like this please.
Late to the game, but I’m about to order one. 🤘🏻
The game is timeless, on pause, forever. Thanks for the consideration. You're gonna love yourself a HOOF!
We needs an Elsa documentary
I have a cloven hoof and it is by some margin the best fuzz I've ever used. EQD is the bomb.
I love the Hoof ❤
It loves u right back! Thanks
such a modest guy! I'd love one day to endorse this brand!!!

I had one of the earlier 3-knob versions in the smaller enclosure and a limited orange sparkle. Sold them both unfortunately.
I actually have that white hoof! I love it!
6:48 Good thing Iggy supervises the production!
nothing leaves the workshop until Iggy deems it "worth a million in prizes"

Jamie’s basement is heaven.
Big fan of your pedals. I have the Arrows and Levitation. I think you guys would do well with videos on your whole line.

that would require Jamie Stillman and Jonathan Hischke to be two separate people, and I'm not entirely sure that's the case...
