The Obama tan suit scandal was one of the stupidest news cycles in my life. News outlets really spent almost a week talking about the color of the presidents suit. If only that was our biggest problem these days.
And James understandably steered clear of the more controversial aspects of that scandal, because this isn’t a political channel… But it’s worth considering that Obama probably faced extra undeserved scrutiny because of his race. It’s simply true that people of color in America don’t get as much leeway with those kinds of things as guys who look like me
@@pensivepenguin3000 Trump and Biden both got a thousand articles for every cough and frown they've made. They're white. No need to make it about race.
I disagree that The Tan Suit was too casual. It was summer and daytime. Look at it this way, if you have a daytime summer wedding the tuxes are going to be a lighter color in most cases. Does that make them casual?
The tan suit looks so fresh and fits his darker complexion very well. He was also in a good shape for a politician, that made him even look better in suits
That was the ignorance of FOX News. LBJ , Eisenhower, Reagan, especially wore tan .The latee wore browns, tweeds , and even a white sport coat in summer. It's absurd to wear dark suits in summer.
President Reagan also donned formal daytime attire, like a tailed morning jacket, when the occasion suited it. He was probably one of the only modern presidents to wear traditional formal attire with confidence.
Good catch on Truman's style and background James. Very impressed you named him. I humbly suggest you read Truman's biography by the great David McCollough. Worth the effort.
@ I don’t see any competition here, just somebody stating their personal preference. I am also in camp JFK, simply because that preppy Ivy look resonates the most with me. All 3 men were incredibly sharp of course
@@pensivepenguin3000 I understand. All three had their way. JFK grew up incredibly rich , he was not only preppy, but was truly contemporary in his elegance . Obama being a slim six footer , could wear cloths beautifully. Reagan had a classic Hollywood Regency style , and also was gifted with a,figure for clothes. I see connections between all three in taste (;Reagan could wear a hat the best , and JFK never liked them) , while seeing uniqueness also.
Reagan wore tailored made suits, from a tailor in Las Vegas. He kept them a long time. He was renown for tan , tweeds ,browns , white sport coats in summer , leathers, riding breeches, boots .
I do remember President Kennedy , on his wedding day he was just superb , same at his inauguration . President Reagan though for me nails it . The choice of fabric , colour and cut of his clothes are immaculate with grooming to match . He walks tall in a very relaxed way . President Kennedy was young and showed the world a new hope displayed in his style .
I don’t think we’re ever gonna see President Trump in a 3-piece suit, bc if you noticed, Trump almost always leaves his suit jackets open/unbuttoned, in order to make his tie more visible. A 3-piece suit would make that impossible.
Much of the reason Obama’s tan suit created such a stir was because of the fact that, by that time, the dark suit (black, charcoal, or navy blue) had virtually become a standard-issue uniform for male politicians-to the point that it was virtually unheard of for a political figure to wear anything else during working hours. That is still the case today. But that is a comparatively recent development. Even in Reagan’s day, you would see a good deal more variety in business attire in terms of color. If you search online, you won’t find it hard to unearth photos of Reagan in a tan suit that is very reminiscent of what Obama wore years later. Such suits were much more common in Reagan’s era, and so his wearing one would not elicit the kind of response that Obama garnered when he deviated from the “uniform.”
As someone who enjoys dressing up to look better and discovering new combinations that flatter myself, I see it as a fulfilling hobby and something that removes stress, instead of adding it. But I understand why someone at the top of their job hierarchy such as Obama or Zuckerberg think that way. They don't really need to cause a good impression on anyone anymore.
Richard Nixon was also one of the best dressed modern presidents. When he was standing in a line with his five successors, you could tell that his suit was of the highest quality, only Reagan’s was better.
The Tan suit controversy was mostly contrived by the liberal media to make the opposition media look petty. Literally people just asked if it was appropriate for a man who normally wore dark suits to then wear a more informal tan suit when discussing terrorism and American military action that was literally the extent of it. Then the mainstream media completely blew it out of proportion. It was never a big story. However, media favorable to Barack Obama just acted like it was a controversy because in the mainstream media's perspective you can only bow to their king not ask any type of question they don't approve.
JFK was the greatest looking President. He was handsome and knew how to carry himself while within the public eye. In private, however, he was a terrible human being on so many counts. As we all know, being a gentleman isn’t only about looks, considering that even evil individuals can be well dressed and conservative in public. Ronald Reagan had style to a good extent, maybe not to the same edge as JFK. However, Reagan was a genuine gentleman both in public and behind the scenes. Reagan > JFK by a thousand miles. Ultimately, being a gentleman is more about your character and actions above style and Reagan is a pure example of that.
@ Wrong. The channel is about being a gentleman. Being a gentleman extends beyond fashion. JFK was objectively a bad person and anything but a gentleman. He had the looks and the public presentation while in the spotlight. However, he was a phony. He wasn’t a gentleman. He engaged in debauchery, he was a liar, a phony, a druggie, etc.
Dressing too conservative can get to be bit of a bore . Of course you have to consider the occasion so you appear dignified and respectful. However, I say variety is the spice of life so have fun and show some color and unique designs . I'm tired of seeing people dressed in casual black, so black shorts with black T-shirt and black baseball cap. It is not against the law to wear color.
@@pensivepenguin3000 In other words, black people probably look better in a purple suit while people with tanned skin shouldn't wear a tan jacket haha.
JFK was the coolest, I think Reagan, dressed more like a president, when I think of what a president looks like I think if Reagan, I also think bill Clinton
If clothes are meant to say something about the man then I'm afraid the dark blue suit, white shirt, and blue or red (depending on party) necktie sen on every state and federal politician say conformity, lack of original thoughts, and a willingness to go along with the status quo. Too late for 2024, but I pledge to vote for the next candidate for any office who appears in a green or brown suit 😅
My 95-year-old Portuguese grandmother called me a true gentleman. Thank you, James.
JFK, Reagan and Obama - the holy trinity of presidential style, right there. Great job!

It's by design; they want to distract the masses with trivial matters while the real atrocities go ignored.
About as important and reality based as the 'terrorist fistbump' line of reportage.
@@pensivepenguin3000 Trump and Biden both got a thousand articles for every cough and frown they've made. They're white. No need to make it about race.
@@pensivepenguin3000 Trump and Biden are getting flak for far more mundane reasons. Color has nothing to do with it.
I disagree that The Tan Suit was too casual. It was summer and daytime. Look at it this way, if you have a daytime summer wedding the tuxes are going to be a lighter color in most cases. Does that make them casual?
Hell yeah. Plus, if you look like Barack Obama, you can wear just about anything. One of the most dapper presidents we’ve ever had, that’s for sure
The tan suit looks so fresh and fits his darker complexion very well. He was also in a good shape for a politician, that made him even look better in suits
I would have avoided the white shirt and instead opted for light blue!

Trumps overcoat makes him look formidable. A good look for a boss. I’ve always been a fan of overcoats.

I love to see a video on the worst dressed president. I know who I would put on the top of that list.
Lol. There's a runaway winner.
JFK was the best dressed president... hands down..
His casual style was unmatched
The prep king 🔥

JFK was best dressed because he was most attractive. Halo effect
so true
bro had thick hair as well
Harry Truman

JFK and Obama all the way. They dressed so well!
Andrew Johnson was a tailor
Raegan in the plain white and jeans is hilarious... he looks like a Millennial with the old age filter on !
Reagan was a real rancher , horseman. What should he should of worn on a ranch?
You can't beat Bill Clinton in a warm up suit
Lol Clinton was the homie
I think Mr.Trump suits are generally well put together
Although I think if he added more pinstripe 3 piece suits it would compliment his look nicely
The gold tie on Rogan was a nice relatable choice. Worked.

JFK was stylish because Jackie dressed him.
JFK - Brooks Brother
Ronald Reagan - RRL
Donald Trump - Untailored Brioni
Trump's Brioni = Old Dad style
Nobody rocked tweed, tan and brown suits better then California Reagan.

President Herbert Hoover was very smart
make video about combining pullover + shirt with and without tie combo please

Trump has a style too. Should have included him. Bill Clinton always wore a Casio watch even with a suit.
Lol. I’ll touch this one. I agree with you. 🙏🏾
What about the worst?

Please do one on how men of colour can dress well and like a gentlemen
It's no different to any other race.
White guy here, but I would imagine it always just comes down to pairing colors with one’s skin tone, light, dark or somewhere in between
It's basically the same. The only difference being if you're black, your hair texture is probably quite different. That should be a separate video.

Joe’s suits were superbly cut. I’ll give him that! That’s it’s tho. Hehe.

Trump dresses like a billionaire.
No Trump mention??? oh brother...
what's so great about his style that he should be mentioned in this video? he is no prime example of a gentleman either...
Hey Mr.G, whatever you do, don't read the book of proverbs from the KJV Bible.
You'll have a bitter sweet taste after that.
That tan colored jacket Obama was wearing looked like he borrowed it. It fit him horribly. Kennedy was defiantly a powerhouse.
Not the president but Harris has some decent high end ladies suits / peaked lapels. I bet they were bespoke.
Trump isn't there?...he's a true gentleman
